  • After hearing about the Hype that 58t sprocket has SO MUCH torque, I wanted to get real numbers on exactly how much faster the bigger sprocket is in real world.

    if anything its a testament to how consistent your riding is, well done.

    Thanks for doing this test. Really helps me out a lot. I ride mostly trails and thought if I got a bigger sprocket it could also help my battery range. I rarely ride over 35 miles an hour so I'm not worried about top speed

    Thanks for posting. We have two identical sur ron Xs .. I put a 54T on mine, my son's is stock. My twin brother (he's a bit heavier than me!) rides at the same speed-ish. On a long woods trail, we didn't notice much speed difference, but he had better battery life. I am not sold for my riding that going from 48T stock to 54T made much difference. I think the Sur Rons are tuned fairly well matching the 48T to be honest!

    • @ridefarm5528

      Right, it all depends on the rider’s riding style for sure. I ended up going with 52t but I struggle to keep up with my friends with 58t in the technical uphills.

    Thanks a lot for doing this comparison. I had put on the 64 tooth sprocket on my stock Sur Ron X with a non o ring chain, dual sport tires, body weight of 235lbs., and rode around San Francisco streets, especially doing some steep hills. I came up with almost twice as much battery drain on the bigger sprocket and barely noticed much difference in the torque. I ended up taking it off after 2 rides because my range was about 14 miles and top speed was barely 35 mph. I have yet to figure out what the deal was. I quickly switched back to my stock 48 tooth and the 64 tooth has been collecting dust.

    Here's the thing about the first test, I believe it's because you have a speed you hit where you're not comfortable going over. Could be why it's similar.

    • @recklesshoongarage566
      @recklesshoongarage566 2 роки тому +1

      @@ridefarm5528 I definitely know that isn't true because the 58 tooth props up the front wheel because the amount of torque bump it gets, you so were easing the throttle a lot more. I can even tell in the video you were. And this is me not being rude, I just think your test wasn't done correctly by human error.
      Just be honest man, it goes a long way. You might be thinking how I know this? Well I did the EXACT test you did but on my own trail of course with my buddy at the end with a stop watch and we tested both bikes, with a 48 tooth (stock) and the 58 tooth (upgraded)
      Everything stock besides sprocket
      (Times were)
      48 tooth 2:12:11
      58 tooth 2:08:50
      That's a 4 and a bit seconds faster on the track and my front wheel kept shooting in the air when I'm on the throttle.

      @recklesshoongarage566 2 роки тому +1

      Forgot to mention, the trail is a very easy trail for me to remember and have good muscle memory so that extra 4 seconds wasn't because I did something slightly better, it was purely faster with the 58 tooth

    this is very individual, something suits everyone differently! And I think that this bike with a larger rosette is more advantageous than the original one, since you won't use the maximum one anyway. And Tacchini approx. 70 km/h, maybe with a full charge 75 approx. kilometers per hour on the level and the transition of the gear wheel to 58 rosettes is not a big drop in maximum. It drops to maybe 60 km/h or 65 km/h, which I think is negligible, as I wrote the maximum, you won't use the bike anyway, it is intended more or less for the forest, off-road, to have fun and not to go full throttle anyway, when it drops to about 90%, it loses the maximum or 80 %, you won't reach the maximum anyway, most riders buy the 58T gear wheel. It's the golden mean. Everything above is already without a replacement, like, for example, 64

      Because MTB wheels were never intended to handle weigh of 112ib bike plus rider. With the speeds these bikes can do, the thing spokes of a MTB wheel could spell disaster. The stock 19” wheels already are prone to getting spokes bent broken and loose.
