    We’ve seen a lot of newcomers in the indoor cycling app market. Some were a complete disaster and didn’t even make it out of their initial beta. And I’ve seen some apps make some big progress and get out of beta after being in beta for several years.
    Zwift without a doubt is the most popular indoor cycling app, but it's not for everyone. In this video, I will take you through my top 9 apps to use for your indoor cycling and get you though these indoor training sessions.
    There are two type of apps out there. Apps with emphasis on structured training, analytics and provide you with tools to help you manage your indoor training and racing season. Other apps provide a virtual riding experience with simulated GPS routes, video routes, or virtual gamified type cycling experience. Some apps offer both.
    I am going to break down the list into two categories: Apps with virtual riding experience, and apps with structured training.

    I am a 74 year old cyclist and generally cycle my local lanes. I have a Tacx trainer and use that when the weather is too bad; up till now I have used the Tacx videos which have suited me well.

    I switched from zwift to rouvy because of the AR routes and i think its the best of both worlds since it has AR routes, real video routes and structured training. The only thing lacking is a big community but you won't miss that if you didn't come from zwift

    Thanks for the quality content. I can't understand why I haven't found your channel sooner nor why you have so few subscribers (compared to other cycling channels). A hidden gem :)
    To answer your question. I currently don't cycle indoors but I'm looking to get into it. I knew about the big three cycling apps, but thanks for mentioning the more unknown ones. Xert certainly seems very nice and I like that you can take the workout offline with the garmin app.

    I just downloaded and have tried the Apple TV Rouvey app. WOW, it is great! Easy to setup and I have little issue with the interface. The Apple 4K remote is a bit tricky but this is true with all apps on the device.
    I had been planning on subscribing to Zwift this winter, that is why I bought my Apple TV 4K. Now I may pay for Rouvey once they go “live” instead. Rouvey for Apple TV is free as of oct. 2019 because they are in beta.
    I hope they can add more routes and finish the other loose ends. Looking good.
    I really like the AR real life videos, These are not as flashy as Zwift but they keep the ride interesting enough for me.
    BTW, I have messed around with Zwift on my Apple TV just a little and find it tricky to control with the Apple TV remote. I have not tried the iOS companion app though.

    The RGT app instantly connected my H3, ipad, and PC painlessly, but it won't let me pedal more than half a stroke, then it's as if someone slams on the brakes. It lets up for a few seconds, then brakes again. Can't find an option to make adjustments. Acts the same regardless of what gear I'm in.

    I hadn't used Maximum Trainer in some time but tried launching it today and it told me that I had to update but when I clicked the link to update it takes you to a page where there are no links to download. If you click around it there's a post from Maximum Trainer that they weren't able to secure funding and now it seems as if they've nuked the entire program. It's unfortunate because I enjoyed it and really sad that they've killed even the older versions by telling the program to force you to update when there's no update available.

    Very very good review. I was just looking at the indoor training space and your clip gave me so much info and help. I still have a question though:
    Which of these apps support group training (with a coach) that could give indications real time for the people on how hard they should go, etc. Also if it supports some video/ audio conference would be awesome. I’m really curious if there is such thing out there!
    Cheers!

      +Alexandru Georgescu MaximumTrainer supports group workouts. Also check out ErgVideo.com (Windows only). Each supports up to 25 connections at once and each rider can ride at their own fitness level.

    • @alexgeo

      Yep, i-ve seen that. The only downside is that they limit to 4 folks, and they don't have some routes to ride to. The go-to for me is Rouvy/or RGT + discord + watch race functionality.

    Which is the best app/s to use with an apple tv which has good structured workouts for triathletes? Instead of Zwift

    • @SmartBikeTrainers
      @SmartBikeTrainers  5 років тому +1

      Currently the following apps can be used on Apple TV:
      - Zwift
      - RGT
      - Rouvy (beta) You can only do video rides
      - FulGaz: video rides and they recently added structured workouts but very limited. However, you can import your own workouts to the app. You can see how I did it here: ua-cam.com/video/9LIa-iQcwLk/v-deo.html

      Hi! Here at Rouvy we think we have a pretty good one going, and you can download and use it for free on Apple TV during the trial beta period! For any of the 4,000 structured workouts use Rouvy on Win, iOS or Android

      Hey Wael, give Rouvy a shot! We have a large number of routes and in the catalog you can categorize them by things such as distance and estimated time to fit your plan! Additionally we have thousands of virtual routes that can also be filtered to fit your ride time or type!

      Zwift is compatible with a number of Android devices. See if you can find Zwift app on the Google Play store. Generally it you can download it from the App Store, then it’s compatible.

    Hi, I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to Zwift (virtual or with video recording) where I can disable in it controlling the power meter but still have the ability to ride the route. I intend to use another app, such as Trainerroad to control it. Any ideas?

    • @SmartBikeTrainers
      @SmartBikeTrainers  4 роки тому +2

      Giver RGT Cycling a try. They have a free option to ride virtual roads. You should be able to run TR and RGT at the same time.

    • @casey-rouvy2322
      @casey-rouvy2322 4 роки тому +1

      Hi Alexandru, in Rouvy you have the ability to sync your smart trainer as a ‘traditional/classic’ trainer and ride along a power curve. Just connect your trainer to ROUVY via the other available protocol as a non-controllable general powermeter. If that solution does not work for you you may also adjust the ‘reality level’ in training mode to climb faster or ride in specific zones easier.

    Stumbled upon this and great video......I especially love the feedback for triathletes, what do you think about VeloPro for triathletes? Maybe I missed that in the video...

    • @SmartBikeTrainers
      @SmartBikeTrainers  5 років тому +1

      +Geoffrey Taylor VeloPro is made for cyclists not triathletes. I’ve used it
      for a period and had to add the swimming and running myself. But the nice thing is you can adjust how much cycling you can do per week. So with some tweaking, and as long as you know how to train for the other two, you can use its plan.

    • @SmartBikeTrainers
      @SmartBikeTrainers  5 років тому +1

      For triathlon specific plans, I would look at TrainerRoad and The Sufferfest. They both have all three sports integrated into their plans. TrainerRoad has plans from Sprint to full Ironman.

    • @SmartBikeTrainers
      @SmartBikeTrainers  5 років тому +1

      That’s true. It seems easier to do for cyclists at this point since power data gives you almost everything you need to know about the stress of the workout. We don’t seem to be there yet for the other two sports. But getting closer 🤞

    Please could you do an updated video. Maximum trainer is no longer available since September 2019.
    Also RGT cycling is only suitable for people with smart trainers (a speed and cadence sensor will not work with RGT)
    So it would be great to know what free trainers are available smart trainer and dumb trainers.
