This video is spot on. Thanks! I feel like there's so little content out there that truly understands the challenges that we short-torsoed ladies have.
I was so long looking for tipps like that! I always searched for "tall women", "long legs" and did not find it. One week ago, I don"t know why, I came across "short torso". I was not aware, that my torso is short, though I have a good relationship with my body. That openend a whole new world for me! Greetings from Vienna / Austria.
I know! It's not super well known or easily discovered. Still working on how to break through that. Suggestions welcomed! So glad you're here Olivia! It's so great to meet you 😀
I have watched countless kibbe videos, color season analysis videos, body and face essence videos. I have learned more from just a handful of your videos than anything I’ve ever watched. I’m so glad I found your channel. Thank you for your wonderful, informative content!!
I hate belts on me but today I tried on an elastic belt and it was actually really nice. I'm trying to decide if I should buy it but it was nice to see a belt look good for a change. I don't like using the belts that come with dresses wrapped around me either. I put the fabric belt through the loops of the dress and instead of wrapping it around my waist, I don't bring it around, I just tie it at the back so that I can make the waist as tight or loose as I want without dividing my body where the belt is.
Figuring out that my waist ist shorter changed the game for me. Now I look in the mirror and can actually create balance. I find your video very helpful so thank you very much for making them!
So I was watching this and realized that it does work because my wedding dress has a higher/mock neck that is detailed mesh. I was looking at that pic in comparison to the lower necklines I had tried on and although it wasn’t what I had originally envisioned, it definitely suits me and gives me some extra length. This is a true tip! Thank you for sharing your insight!
How about a video on choosing an evening gown or cocktail dresses (or maybe you already have one?). So many of the dresses I've looked at are designed for the 6 foot model!
@Jules Beth yes. I just watched another youtuber, giving advice about the short torso. It was the opposite of what you said, and she said she's proportionate. I could tell she was because the advice was horrible, and unfortunately, a lot of comments thanked her, not knowing there's better tips from people who actually have short torsos. I check different channels for advice, and yours is the most helpful and reliable. Thank you! 😊
@@lise4369that's fascinating, because every short torso'd, long legged woman I know is a pear, and I found this video seemed to be much more geared to either an apple shaped body or another with wider shoulders than you typically see with long-legged pear shapes. She mentions her shoulders are as wide as her hips, that was quite illuminating to me.
Hi Jules. More great tips. I especially liked the neck tip and also the colour blocking tip. That's something that I never thought about before. Great video.
Agree with your points very helpful. I feel like a box in say a tshirt dress or long dress. Love dresses though especially in summer very comfortable. High necks dont look right on me. Love v necks & shirts & dresses that are rouched throughout the breast area because it draws the torso up looking longer. I love spaghetti straps too but again with rouched in breast area. Definitely belts are always a problem look horrible on me. Only like a tiny belt that I can wear higher. Again thanks
Your videos are so helpful. It's taken me years to realize some styles that don't look good on me, but I didn't understand why. Now I do. BTW, how about handbags? Very large totes and handbags, look terrible on me, especially North/South shapes. TFS
So smart as always, thanks for sharing your insights with us. Love your analysis of the standard shift and drop waist advice. I have a couple of dresses, one vintage one not, where the drop waist kind of falls on my butt and I was like, is this right, what is happening?! Sometimes people criticize body type advice videos/influencers saying they’re imposing “rules” that are restrictive or body shaming but learning some of this stuff has actually been empowering. Like instead of thinking I’m just too fat for a spaghetti strap top, I realize my shoulders are kind of broad and that style isn’t for me. I look much better in v necks and halter tops but instead of assuming it’s a weird fluke that it looks good, I’ve learned that it makes sense that those shapes look good on my body type.
Aw thanks Virginia! Yeah I don’t see this as rules. It’s just advice for making our body type fit into styles that sometimes don’t naturally fit. I don’t see how knowing my body and it’s proportions are shameful. They’re awesome! And making them look the way I want is empowering like you said 😊💖
You have a beautiful figure. The black dress @55sec is beautiful on you. Because of its style, longer length and neck style, I’d say more “conservative”style, have you thought about combining it when nude sandals instead of pumps? This would create a balance of “heavy and light”, “open and closed”, “conservative and sexy” look. It would change your all outfit to look lighter and fresher. And still stylish and chic. Thank you for your videos. And for showing us some vulnerabilities!! Stay strong!
Totally agree! So many great ways to style this dress. I’m not showing my toes right now (long story lol) so that probably explains why I’m not styling with sandals lately 🙃
I agree with you and I don't like drop waist. I have narrow shoulders so drop waist just emphasizes how much bigger my lower body is and also makes me look boxy instead of showing off the hourglass shape. Also I wish I can look good in turtle neck but I have shorter neck and a big head (having narrow shoulders makes them appear that way) so it's a no for me lol
A lot of the advice in this video is geared towards women who have either greater proportion, or upper body width, than typical short torso women, who are pears. Are you pear shaped? If so I'd suggest a great crisp square neckline and see how you like that.
Yayyy! This came at the perfect time! I just ordered a bunch of dresses, and I guess subconsciously I knew these rules for myself, but I agree with you about the shift dresses! I am a little curvy (like a size 8/10), and I feel shift dresses make me look heavier than I am. Not sure why that is. I also agree with what you said about the belts! I can only use a soft fabric tie if it can't on the dress, like you said. I never understood why boning in garments looked so unflattering on me until watching your videos about it! I loved the pics in your examples. It helps so much to have that visual! Also, super jealous of some of your dresses. Esp the one I think you recently got with the slits on the sides ( I think you said it was from Loft?) 😊 I do have a question: Do you think one shoulder dresses work for short torso? I got a dress with one shoulder strap, but I can't tell if it's flattering! The strap doesn't go straight up, it kind of crosses over my chest, if that makes sense. I think it works, but I've never worn anything like that so I'm not sure!
Yes to all of this!! Shift dresses make sense in theory but in practice, they can make you look hippy… so glad everything’s been helping! You’re a pro 😄
I can’t wear any dress with a line round the middle or a tie up/elastic I’ve only found one dress in my whole life that looked ok and it has the fabric all the way from the neck to a drop waist very much like the light blue 3rd one you showed. I still don’t think I could wear the ones you were wearing as I have big love handles so I get this huge shelf at my hips as the elastic pulls in just above them
I had some fun looking! Found some great options but without knowing more, you may love or hate them. Affiliate links: My aunt wore this as MOB and it’s gorgeous: rstyle.me/cz-n/hmzk52cvftf More conservative, may want to get sleeves shortened to fall above waist. Short torsos can make this sleeve length look boxy: rstyle.me/cz-n/hmzk9dcvftf I love this one! rstyle.me/cz-n/hmzmdkcvftf Literally identical to previous but better size range: rstyle.me/cz-n/hmzme6cvftf Short option: rstyle.me/cz-n/hmzmgkcvftf I love this one but might not be the vibe or maybe it is! rstyle.me/cz-n/hmzmhecvftf
@@JulesBeth Jules I ordered the 3rd one. I am glad you found it. I saw the fourth one yesterday, but this one is more conservative. Thank u so much for your help. You are wonderful. I will continue to watch.
So I just learned I have a short torso! And I'm a pear with large breasts. I came across your channel while researching silhouettes for a wedding dress. What do you suggest?
I love v neck, strapless tops& dresses but I'm short torso. Almost all the necklines i love don't suits short torso :( . I wish i had slightly long torso.
I have problems with a lot of sheath dresses because I end up with a lot of extra fabric bunched up in the small of my back and if it zips up the back, the zippers look too long.
A popular request I’ve been getting! I’ll do one soon ish but in the meantime, I talked about it a little on yesterday’s livestream ua-cam.com/video/0fQio_njRGo/v-deo.html ❤️
One thing that will make some of the recommendations not doable is when you have BROAD SHOULDERS. God i struggle. Broad shoulders with short torso is like death for a christmas present. You can’t wear high necks and actually need a v neck which sucks with your short torso. One high or turte neck you can wear with shoulders like that is if the dress is sleeveless and the shoulder is bare to the knuckle bit on tour shoulder. And shift dresses with broad shoulders make you look like a box. Its horrific.altough pretty sure you didn’t recommend it anyways. But i also have really skinny long legs and normal sized hips, so when i wear a midi dress it s really weird looking as after my hips the dress drops off with no shape whatsoever so especially back and sideways i look like hips down to the hem is a rectangle and then two toothpicks

So true that one size doesn’t fit all and neither do 10 sizes fit all. There can be so many differences between bodies!
