Join local poet & playwright, Tom Kelly, on his walk around South Tyneside - The Place We Love.
In association with Alzheimer's Society comes this relaxing stroll down memory lane, with Tom, as he looks for inspiration for his new book via the sights and sounds of our region.
Packed with choice, featuring a regional dialect quiz, a calming bit of quiet time and classic regional folk songs performed by Benny Graham, The Place We Love invites you along for a charming journey into the past and present of the part of the world we call home.
    -----
Presented by Tom Kelly, this film is the main feature of a video project commissioned by The Word, which takes those living with dementia and their carers on a journey through time and place in South Tyneside - The Place We Love.
Purchase on DVD from The Word or stream the entire project for free at: • The Place We Love - A ...
    -----
The Place We Love is dedicated to Liz Williams of the Alzheimer's Society, whose support for the project meant everything to us. Liz passed on shortly after the film was screened at The Word early this month, and so the project will be forever in loving memory of a wonderful woman who worked tirelessly to help and serve those living with dementia.
For their support of The Place We Love, Tom Kelly, Unified Films & The Word would like to thank:

Fine content good Sir. Born and bread in Laygate South Shields. My Grandfather and father worked as Boiler makers at Readheads Shipyard . At sixteen I chose The open seas . And started an adventure in the Merchant Navy. Some almost 40 years on I am still ploughing the high seas , around the globe. Once its in your blood. It stays forever... All that said South Shields will always be home to me.. Kudos and thank you...

My Dad died shortly before the first lockdown in 2020. We walked the length and breadth of South Tyneside together over the years. We watched as Dad disappeared into the mists of dementia and I miss his humour and optimism. I have watched this film many times and it gives me solace each and every time. Thank you for the memories.

Brilliant Memory Walk! Very Nostalgic. Yes, you’re right, with Alzheimer’s the clearest memories are the oldest…..and definitely the best! 🤔

Great film and a credit to all involved. Lovely to see the dedication to Liz, a legend in Jarrow and surrounding areas, for those she supported over the years. A lovely friend and she will be remembered always x x
