It should also be of note that if Anthony doesn't find something enjoyable he often won't even review it hence the Y U No review videos. And I don't see what your point is about him giving 6/10 more often that other scores. What IS your point?

I honestly think Dude Incredible is Albini's best musical effort, not just as Shellac but as a musician.
Have you heard Atomizer? As much of a fan as I am of Steve's work post Big Black. I don't know of anything that has topped that albums.
Wrath99 Atomizer just doesn't do it for me personally. I've listened to it extensively and I'm still waiting for it to grow on me more than it has. I much prefer Songs About Fucking as far as Big Black albums go.
I agree, and I am old, I remember when Atomizer, etc came out. This is better. Atomizer can be a strong second.

One of Shellac's best and therefore one of the best albums of the year. Much leaner than their messy Excellent Italian Greyhound. I guess a Godflesh review is comin' up...
The youtube algorithm has a sick sense of humor; this was recommended to me when I discovered that Shellac's entire discography has vanished from spotify. And the fact that Anthony gave this a 6/10 was just adding salt to the wound.
I think we can all agree that this is one of his poorly aged reviews. This record is a banger of a late career output.

i didn't think "mayor/ surveyor" was half baked. i think is a really awesome interlude song. i would be so psyched to write a guitar riff that sick. and the bass part is really cool how it compliments the guitar.
Glad you reviewed it! It's not Action Park, or 1000 Hurts, but it's an improvement over Excellent Italian Greyhound, which felt really flat to me, although it sounded much better live. I enjoyed this album a lot. I don't think Shellac are really into reinventing themselves - they do what they do, on their own terms, when they feel motivated to do it. I'm happy they still feel like making music and sharing it. *cough*Fugazi*cough* And All the Surveyors has enough Albini vitriol to keep me going for a while!

hey man this is an old comment, but if you like albums like this, you should check out "Songs about Fucking" by Big Black, "Goat" by The Jesus Lizard, and "New Plastic Ideas" by Unwound
Between 5:35 and 5:36, did anyone notice when Anthony said "expecting," his head appeared to jerk back so instantaneously that it seemed like he cut like maybe a half-seconds-worth of content in between the displacement of where his head was and where it ended up? Like, I get that there's an editing process to these videos, but have they always been that subtly beautiful all the time? 'Cuz he still utters the word so fluidly, it makes me wonder if that's how the human body has always seemed to work. Creeped out.
old fantano comment sections weren't that pretty either but it's refreshing as hell to not see "nice review anthony but ~insert racist/homophobic epitaph/dark scenario here~" and other types of memes.

I'm a big fan of theirs, I say 7.5, I'm glad you reviewed it. "Riding Bikes" is my favorite although "All The Surveyors" is great too, "Who walks the kings road?, Who walks the kings road? Fuck the King!", hilarious.

Matt Macdonald As someone who loves jazz, I didn't think that it was "super fucking jazz" at all on my first listen. Cosmograma have moments that's jazzier. But I will obviously listen again, so I will see then.

I love that you have in on the kill taker in background. That being an album Albini initually produced, but both Fugazi and Albini agreed his style didnt fit their sound.

woah, detracting from the album for "muffled vocals" yet the vocals on "At Action Park" don't sound "muffled" to you? song of the minerals is one of my favorite songs and i still can't make out what the fuck bob says after feldspar, the vocals are definitely "muffled" on AAP, but AAP is amazing either way.

For me definitely. It has no bad songs, song that make you wanna push the "next song button". It is perfection from the first to the last second. And the sound of the drums never sounded so good.

Mayor/Surveyor was the only track I was a bit disappointed in. I've had at least one riff from the album stuck in my head each day since release though. I don't think it's just a continuation of their style though. It's not a huge departure, but a lot of the riffs seem much more melodic and groovy this time around.

This has everything a good review should have, one of needledrop's best so far. All points valid. I like the album alot more though, the songs are very unpredictable. Vocals are so far back they remind me of Kyuss.

I agree with your assessments that Dude Incredible and Coffins On Io are two underwhelming albums from incredible bands (Shellac and Kayo Dot respectively), but I want to know if you also agree that ...Trail Of Dead's new album IX is a similar case of a great band releasing a a meh album.
