- Here is a way to use that sourdough starter, even the discard, to make a quick and tasty treat. Frying the starter with your choice of mix-ins can make a light meal or a base for hor d'oeuvres, and it only takes a few minutes.
The Sourdough Simpleton is designed for the newcomer to the world of Sourdough baking. I am a novice, myself, and am writing this from a perspective that I found hard to find as I navigated the straits of sourdough, encountering terms and techniques along the way that defied a simple explanation. The videos on UA-cam are supported by a website, www.sourdoughsimpleton.com, and a Facebook Group, bit.ly/FBSourdough.
Love this! Great video, simple and concise. Oh, and very delicious.
Glad you liked it! You might check out the recent post for Sourdough Crackers for another quick recipe that uses unfed starter.
@@SourdoughSimpleton Yes. I checked it out and I plan trying the crackers...thank you!
I fry spoonful of starter in butter, frying till its golden brown on both sides, then i pour over some sirup or honey. Great served with icecream
Sounds sinful! Maybe a little chocolate sauce? Thanks for the comment, please do subscribe to this channel if you've not, and check out the Facebook page at bit.ly/FBSourdough and join us there!
Thanks Marc! It’s funny. I just fired up UA-cam after sitting down to a breakfast that includes a sourdough starter pancake exactly like you made here. Really good and so easy to make. Dense and chewy more like a potato pancake than a traditional wheat pancake. I could totally see making some small thin ones and using them as a wraps, like a tortilla.
Hope you enjoy Yes, it's a simple, good thing to do with that excess starter. Keep at it!
Yes, starter with 3% sea salt pan fried in butter. Sooooo good. I don't water mine down and use a small cast iron.
Enjoy
wonderful idea! I will have to try this ❤ thanks from Iowa
Have fun! It's an easy thing to cook up for breakfast.
This is great. I've been looking for something to do with the starter I usually discard.
Yup, this is just one of the things you can make with discard. Wander around this channel, hope you've subscribed, and the website ( sourdoughsimpleton.com ) for more ideas! Thanks for the comments.
I think I've done something wrong. Mine stayed kinda gooey inside.. put back on stove, cooked longer, but the gooey never went away. Any thoughts?
Maybe your starter was a bit on the thick / not too hydrated level, so the inside would not cook. Try adding a bit of water, and cooking it at a lower temperature so that it will cook through without burning.
