- Rivals 2 is the sequel to the fan favorite Rivals of Aether. As someone who is a huge fan of Rivals of Aether getting to compete in the sequel was a dream come true. There was a new character announced the day I arrived at the tournament and I quickly found myself maining them.

i'm glad you were willing to play loxodont and act as one of the first insights in how that character works. as a ddd main in ult, even if he seems to take more from brawl/PM ddd, i'm glad he's up my alley.
What I absolutely *love* about RoA, is that they give heavy weights the versatility they deserve in order to combat against zoners or getting juggled.
As a Ganondorf main, I have to ask. Does Loxodont feel like once he's downloaded by the community, he loses his advantage?
I say feel, because it's too early to obviously determine anything.
In a lot of games heavy characters are slow and lack range.
It seems like Rivals 2 gives mobility and range to their heavies instead of endless super armor.
I wouldn't say so. There's so many ways you can approach a situation as him that even if you're downloaded you can still mix things up.

When a character and or player, essentially becomes predictable, either in obvious patterns or through conditioning your opponent into predictable choices. You "download" their playstyle, inorder to interpret the options they pick, given a situation.
For example, will they roll forward or backward? With enough information and time, you're able to predict the option they take with higher accuracy, because of what you have digested through your time fighting them.
Ganondorf for example, is a very easy character to download because most of his attacks don't leave him with many options after any of his initial moves. He's a hard hitter and super heavy weight but doesn't mean anything when your opponent "downloaded" how you and your character works.
Ganondorf in the beginning of Smash Ultimate was consider actually decent. However, that was only because no one knew how avoid his attacks and his strengths came from punishing people's mistakes. Once the SU community grew to understand how all the characters worked, Ganondorf was pushed down all the way to the 2nd worst character in the game.
65th place playing a game that hasn't been released with a newly revealed fighter is pretty good.
As someone who is looking forward to playing Clairen the most, I feel the need to defeat all Loxodonts. I will defeat you!
Oh, and congrats on being able to play the game! While commentating, Dan said the first weekend beta is a month or two away! I can't wait to get my hands on the game!
Every day I left the venue I was sad I didn't get to play more Rivals 2. I can't wait for the beta as well!
When I got to try out Rivals 2 at Genesis I was totally expecting to stick to my Rivals 1 main in Kragg as I got used to the new mechanics, but somehow something about Loxodont just clicked with me immediately. His weight and attacks feel so satisfying to use, and his strategy of biding his time to build up power is not only super cool and perfect for a heavyweight, but is also extremely fitting for his character. Once again Aether Studios knocked it out of the park in regards to designing heavies for plat-fighters and I couldn't be happier.
Clairen also felt super smooth to me compared to Rivals 1, so I'm honestly thinking about co-maining the duo in a bit of lore-related irony haha. Great video and gameplay, and can't wait to see and play more once the betas start rolling out!
Clairen did feel really good! I'm tempted to pick her up again. Maybe as part of a new series on my channel ;)

You described Loxodont exactly how I felt playing him in the Kickstarter beta. Though I didn't think of Ganondorf. But Dedede is one of my mains in Smash Bros, and having a fusion between him, Ike, and Ganondorf is just so fun.
It's so weird playing a version of this character that is actually really good. It's too much fun.
Ledge Special and getup Special are going to be staples of the genre going forward.

It'll be releasing PC first in the fall and then they'll have plans to expand to other platforms from there. I don't know if the switch is part of that plan

When i got my first credit card and decided to buy not only rivals of aether (& left 4 dead 2 too of course) i felt like i was playing smash brothers on pc... man... his ancestors must be so proud of the one who created the aether universe...
I love Rivals because it takes all the hard but cool things about Melee and makes it way more accessible.
I know most people are asking about loxodont but when you gave fleet a try, how did you like her?
She felt like the kind of character I needed to do some labbing with. She has potential but in the limited time I had at Genesis I couldn't get good as her in time for the tournament.

I understand that but I'm definitely biased considering Ultimate is my main game. I think Rivals fans still have a lot to look forward to and while the addition of shields and ledges does make scenarios play out a little more like smash, at the end of the day it's more rivals than smash.

Never played rivals 1. Curious as to how rivals 1 players see rivals 2? Do yall think it will just as good or better than rivals 1?
I think it fills a slightly different niche than Rivals 1. Rivals 1 is a very unique feeling game and Rivals 2 feels a lot closer to Smash. I imagine some players may stick with Rivals 1 because of that. But I do believe that it will become just as good if not better than Rivals 1. The engine is already there it just needs content and polish.
Are wavedashing and wavelanding still in the game
Yes all the mechanics you could expect to find in Rivals of Aether 1 are mostly carried over to this game. The main thing that stood out to me as being different was that you can't wall jump out of Up-Special anymore which nerfs a lot of recoveries but ledges make up for that.

Honestly, still kind of bugs me than the MV is an elephant.

3:52 You liar; we can all see that you only have 2 stocks.
JV3 means you beat them with 0% on your character. Technically it's a 2-stock but we call it a JV3 because they never hit you. A JV4 is when you beat someone without taking any damage at all. (In a 3-stock game at least).
