    Jeff, I will always love you and will never judge you in any way. You moved so many people that don't even have a CLUE that YOU'RE THE ONE THAT MOVED THEM! You are a hero of mine. Thank you Jeff, and my heart goes out to your widow and your boys. Thank you Jeff...

    Jeff Porcaro was the single greatest drummer ever-it really doesnt matter how he died it was, and still is a terrible tragedy that we lost this cat so young-he was so so awesome.Donald Fagen and Walter Becker said that he was the best drummer they ever worked with, that is all that I need to hear.From 1976-1989 he was on over 1000 albums, and his session rate was 3500 per day

      Yep, the only two that I know who didn’t take drugs were Fergie Fredriksen and Byron. Fergie did have bad stage fright though. Bobby got hooked on cocaine and apparently gave a drug to an undercover cop and Joseph Williams started taking cocaine and things during the Seventh One tour and lost his voice. He was also arrested for possession of Marijuana in 1990. Luke even did drugs at some point, but quit later on.

    In Luke's book, he made it very clear he couldn't stand Byron. The dude thought he was Michael Jackson.

    Every man is responisble for what he uses and Jeff chose to smoke and use cocaine on a large scale. We will have to respect that. He'll remain the timeless master that he is and his playing will inspire thousands for many years to come. Peace.

    stay away from cocaine, I am saying this from someone who went through that phase (thankfully only weekends, its too expensive for a poor person)...it's really serious stuff and if you know the "feelings" and ticks that go on with use, the mannerisms and social cues. more than someone who isn't. Any moderate to powerful stimulants, really.

    Jeff does dismiss Bobby Kimball as just another singer. They formed Toto because Boz Scaggs turned down David Paich's offer to produce his next album after Silk Degrees. Instead of playing on his next album, they went out and formed Toto.
    They were determined to make a statement and needed a lead singer, so collectively, they searched for a singer knowing that they WERE the band.To the band, the singer was a needed piece, but a replaceable piece nonetheless. That's why he has the attitude.

  • @CaptNemo100
    @CaptNemo100 13 років тому +2

    Whatever happened within the band as far as lead singers go, that is their business; however, I have to agree that Bobby Kimball, with his trademark moustache, represents Toto in a major way. Bobby was/is also great at stepping back and singing backup vocals whenever Paich or Steve-O sings lead. To most fans, Kimball is one of those ingredients that simply cannot be replaced because of his visual stage presence.
    No disrespect towards Jeff of course (RIP).

    I am a big fan of Jeff, but I don't like the way he is speaking about Bobby Kimball and Joseph Williams. That sounds quite rude.

    • @UndisputedDelta267
      @UndisputedDelta267 10 років тому +7

      Well with Bobby and Joseph being strung out on drugs during their last few months in the band, I'd have a lot less patience towards them.

    • @UndisputedDelta267
      @UndisputedDelta267 10 років тому +3

      lurch321 If only that was the case! I dunno. I wasn't even alive during those years... But according to an interview with Steve Lukather, he said that everybody was doing it. Bobby just developed a stronger taste for it. I think I read somewhere that Joe developed a taste for it too... I could be wrong.

    • @emmanuel0099
      @emmanuel0099 9 років тому +4

      lurch321 Bobby Kimball was arrested back in '81 for selling cocaine to an undercover police man. So, he definitely was dealing with drugs haha

      @106067076846065923794 Well but Jeff also was taking drugs so why does he blame Bobby for that? Especially that noise "pffffff" at minute 3:56 is not nice at all.

    Jeff was a fantastic drummer, I miss him. But no one can beat Carl Palmer, he’s the fastest drummer on earth! My maiden name is Palmer, I got a chance to meet Carl in Long Beach. He was sweet, it was before an
    ELP concert. I was working for a concert promoter then. I wish I would have gotten a chance to work with Toto.

  • @SWH2012
    @SWH2012 12 років тому +6

    I love Jeff and will always love his playing. He was absolutely the King of the Groove. But please let's be honest: the man smoked way too much cigarettes, used way too much cocaine and worked way too many hours. Everybody knows this and every medical expert can tell you what cigarettes and coke will do to your arteries and not just a little bit! This is what killed him. No pesticide reaction can kill a healthy man and Jeff was not healthy at all.

    Lots of comments about the dismissing of singers. The reality is that singers gave Toto problems. Bobby Kimball had a bad drug problem and was arrested for it at one point. Joseph Williams had a drug problem and lost his voice during the SEVENTH ONE tour. And Fergie Frederikson had a hard time recording and would lost his voice live.

  • @instereovideos
    @instereovideos 13 років тому +4

    I like how Jeff is so dismissive of Bobby Kimball... he just sort of throws his name in along with a list of former singers that he wants to forget about somehow. Oh, you mean the guy whose voice made you famous? The guy whose face and mustache everybody associates with your band every time they hear your name? The one who sang the main tagline hook on every one of your big hit songs? Yeah, just that guy... what was his name again?

    • @kai326
      @kai326 6 років тому +2

      First of all, Jeffrey had every right to be dismissive, especially with Kimball. I'd be pissed to. The entire had band had long since run out of patience with him, especially with his drug problems. In fact, Bobby was arrested for trying to sell cocaine to an undercover cop (Lukather tells this story in his recent memoir he did) and the band said "we've given you enough chances, it's time you were out", so Id honestly rephrase what you said a little bit.
      Secondly. When people think of Toto, especially nowadays, I highly doubt they instantly think of Kimball. Sure, he sang the chorus of Africa, but anyone who was a real fan of Toto would probably think of David Paich, or at least one of the Porcaro brothers.
      And third of all, Bobby did not make them famous. Sure, he got their band off of the ground with his voice for a few albums, but they were well known in the studios and LA music scene for quite sometime before toto, so I'd do your research before making such a broad statement
