Totally and I respect her for that. Because at the end of the day, a person that reveres God is also mindful that you'll stand before the judgment seat of Christ and be answerable for yourself. It would be nice to give thanks to the hardworking parents although we all fail yet, God is doing a mighty work. It is a journey for all and none is immune to trials. God allows trials for the godly growth.

What a wonderful interview...I can completely see the two of them truly stepping into ministry to set captives free that are held bound by a religious system instead of a true relationship with God. There is a shift occurring that is causing many to awaken to the righteousness of Christ and not the traditions of man.

I grew up in a very religious family. Once I got old enough to read the Bible and understand it for myself I started to realize things were off and growing up thinking God was just waiting for me to mess up so he could punish me was WRONG. The love God has for us is unmatchable. And how he longs for relationship with people.

Great story, Jinger! relate to this in many ways. I was LDS for 45 years. I went into the faith at 17 and did all the typical Mormon check list. Mission, marriage in the temple, Bishopric , Stake and area assignments . God got hold of me in 2019 and transformed my life. I give praise and honor daily for what He has done. When I was LDS I Didn’t know Jesus the way I do now. Mormonism wants the world to believe they are Christian. Even Gordon B Hinkley stated that the LDS worship a different God than Christianity. I don’t dislike LDS people. I was one for 45 years. Keep loving and serving God 🙏

Such foolishness is not supported in scripture, because all of the Bible is based on God's law. The Bible explicitly teaches about the folly of relying on human reasoning, and in no instance would God ever lead someone in a direction that suits their own desires.

    I'm 73 and can relate
COMPLETELY! Raised in a fundamental Baptist church I had so much fear and then bitterness later in life. My phrase was, I always felt as if God we're standing over me with a baseball bat. As a teen I went to a drive in movie. I continuously looked to the skies expecting the Lord would return and catch me there and punish me. I never believed I would be good enough for Jesus no matter what. So my life turned to MANY years of promiscuity.
Praise God, He continued to love and mold me and at age 70 I finally realized and found true freedom in Christ through His Word! Thank you Jinger for speaking for so so many of us tangled in a web of fear and legalism.❤

@@ShelliHunterSmith There was not just one lightbulb moment. It was a culmination of feeding on scripture day after day and crying out to the Holy Spirit to show me the truth in His Word. I was having a LOT of insomnia and spent that time in the Word and prayer. The truth of His Word set me free a little more each day. And when it did, the air literally smelled fresh. There really is truth in the Word and listening to the Spirit speak that truth to me like I had NEVER heard before. Trust Him and be willing to listen to Him and nothing else!!!! There’s an old saying, “Too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the broth.” I found that to be true when it comes to wanting to know the Truth God has for me. His voice is what lead me out of the darkness. His Word and His voice alone. ❤️

I love Jinger and her love for the Lord and her hunger for truth! I grew up identical to the way she did and am also still unraveling truth from error. But I respect the fact that she didn’t let go of the good things she was taught but just the unbiblical things. This is what I’ve strived to do as well. So many of my friends who were raised with me in the same cultish church have left faith in God and BIBLICAL boundaries and just gone wild. To me it’s so sad when one can’t see the good that they were taught and extract that if you will, from the bad. Jinger I’d such a light shining in darkness and I’m so glad she is using her platform to still glorify God.

What a great testimony of how to pick out the lies in your life while also clinging to the love of the father. She’s right we will never be perfect we just know the one who is which gives us the grace and strength to be transformed and turn away frm our sin and not use Gods grace as an excuse to keep sinning but to keep asking Holy Spirit for help and understanding and practice self discipline and obedience soo we don’t keep harming ourselves. We go from faith to faith believing we will always be loved by a perfect father and he is transforming us into his holiness even as we are progressing little by little and it’s hard to see. He sees his children as righteous and holy even when we can’t see it ourselves

I so can relate to SOME of her upbringing. Growing up in a Catholic home, my parents and some of my older siblings taught us to be scared of most thinks in this world and grew up scared.
Now, as a Born again, Christian woman, wife and mother decision I wouldn’t do that to my family. And, also now counsel my parents and siblings of what God’s true Word says about how we were brought up.

I think that back when I was very young, my mom was a new Christian, my dad who grew up as a pastor's son re-dedicated himself to God, and there was a lot of confusion about these things and I even remember my church being this way, but then I saw changes in both. My parents told us that if we questioned something we were doing to just stop and think, if Jesus were to walk in the room and saw you doing it what would he think. That stuck with me. Then years later WWJD was the thing. Then I heard a pastor say once that beliefs were often what we humans write and sign Jesus's name to. That's so true and often turns so many away from church. We all fail and fall, but we have a loving Heavenly Father who forgives us. God bless you!

I didn’t have the same sort of experiences as jinger but my foundation for everything I understood was based in Catholicism, and I spent many years in bondage, feeling like I needed to earn my salvation. Even though I wasn’t a catholic anymore, I held on to the foundation of it. When the world “beat me up” so to speak, I ended up falling away from my faith for 2 years. I didn’t have the energy to muscle my salvation and take everything the world was handing me. God was calling at me, and I knew I needed to repair that relationship. When I came back, he really started working in me. He gave me the revelation I needed, and I now understand I don’t have to earn my salvation. I don’t have to “get myself right” before I could be worthy enough to be in relationship with Him. He knows me. He loves me. He hears me, and he answers my prayers. He guides me, and suddenly I feel complete and utter freedom and peace. I don’t have to force myself to be patient, forgiving, faithful, and joyful and have peace. Those are the fruits He gives me. I'm truly free, as well and what a blessing. Jesus doesn't want us to live in shame, because it holds us at arms length. I could never earn my salvation -
It was a gift, that's the whole point. Accept it, enjoy it and praise JESUS!

This is important for everyone to question what is being taught in their churches as well. A lot of people mean well, but there’s a lot of manipulation, fear and control in local churches . If you go against some churches bylaws that doesn’t entirely lineup with scripture. Many do not welcome that.
As we study, we really realize it is the faith of Christ, how wonderful it is to know that God has a remnant chosen by grace and there’s nothing we could do or not do to earn or lose our salvation.💜🌿

Wow, what a great interview! I appreciate Jinger's testimony. Our family used to be somewhat involved in one of those Christian cliques, where girls couldn't wear pants or go to college or work outside the home, secular music was frowned upon, courtship with chaperones was the only way to get a spouse, fathers were the lords of their homes, etc. A lot of that is personal standards, not Biblical precepts. The harm comes from people confusing precepts with principles. Now I understand so much more about the Word of God's stance on modesty, marriage, singleness, entertainment, and authority. Jesus is concerned with our hearts, not our appearance. You can wear a feed sack and look so modest and humble and spiritual and yet have a heart full of pride, anger, doubt, and discontentment. I know people in those groups who struggle with that. Their families look so good and harmonious, but in private, there is strife, dysfunction, unhappiness, major health problems from stress, emotional and verbal abuse, guilt, and even suicide. I am grateful that we got away from that and were given true Godly guidance and pastoring that taught us about principles and how to live and make decisions that way. The whole women-can't-wear-pants thing drives me nuts. Pants are not men's clothing. In some cultures, women are viewed as more modest wearing pants than they are in a skirt. It's cultural and it's an opinion. And ultimately, it's the state of the heart. Someone who truly loves Jesus and wants to honor Him will know if something is not appropriate for their life. To force that same standard on others, though, is wrong. If the Bible is silent on a topic, be silent. If it speaks, then speak.

As an agnostic, who was raised in a cult, Jehovah's Witnesses, and stayed in for over 40 years due to INDOCTRINATION, I also have principles, not based on the Bible, but on concern, love and community. I don't knock ppl that cherish the Bible and God but I find many to judge me in the Christian community. It's frustrating, and the ones that aren't judgemental, are just trying to convert me. I wish everyone in the world the best, no matter who you are, or your life choices, as long as you are not hurting children or another person... But I've find that not to be the same in the typical Christian community... I'm not trying to bash... I'm 50, just speaking from experience...

The way to overcome fear is to forgive everyone so you can love. Fear of God is not a virtue.
"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."
"Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.”

I liked this interview & how Jinger has evolved from the teachings of her childhood growing up yrs. It's hard to explain to some people the extent of the control a child grows up with in an ungodly environment. When a child hears one way presented & scripture used out of context for the benefit of control, it's hard to break away from that. I think what really helped Jinger to see things in a different light is moving with Jeremy to LA. I then she was able to see the Bible & it's teachings for the way it is supposed to be. Also I think Jeremy helped too by questioning the teachings of Gothard & helping Jinger to see the scripture in context with Jesus's teachings.

I use the word deconstruct and I am still a devout Christian. It was more about tearing down that which was man made instead of God made.
Let’s be careful about getting stuck on semantics. It’s actually important to have still faithful examples of people who use the word “deconstruct” so that walking away from the faith in it isn’t the only example people have.

I love the way she has been able to disentangle. I have disentangled from it as well but my husband deconstructed. His faith and life was so wrapped up in false teachings that when some of these were violently removed, his faith started to crumble. Everywhere he looked to see what he should believe, in the Bible and elsewhere, there was nowhere to go. Christianity made the most sense with how God has created our world. His beliefs are much more of a stick frame building that is firmly rooted in Christ and his death and resurrection. He does seem afraid to place anything firmly on that house because it might crumble away too.

Most, or at least many of us, probably know who this teacher is. I won't mention his name because it hasn't been mentioned up until now. He made great inroads into Evangelical churches in the 70's because his views seemed to he a good antidote for all that was wrong in society. Eventually it degenerated into a lot of abuse, wrecking churches, breaking up families, etc. It was the perfect setting for tyrants and other abusers. "I'm in charge, so shut up " was frequently said or something like that.
