I always thought that Darsow was insane for wanting to be the Repo Man but when he explains it like that... that actually might be one of the sweetest things I've ever heard.
That "Repo Man" gimmick was a great idea!

Love The Repo Man. A very cartoony gimmick, maybe, but very entertaining. His 'A Day with the Repo Man' vignette is still one of my all time favourite vignettes.

I actually like the Repo Man and it's even nicer to know how he started out with the gimmick. So nice.

One of my favorite wrestlers because of that goofy gimmick sneaking around the ring, with that hook & the song just going REPO MAN lol. Never knew he was part of Demolition until I was much older.
I always liked the video where he broke into Bret Harts grandma's house and she had like a big picture of Bret but just a small pic of Owen. I think thats the first time they hinted at the Bret/Owen feud.

Oh man, that gimmick was classic. Was one of my fav wrestlers as a kid. Barry Darsow was one of the greats of the 80s/90s.
If they put demolition in the Hall of Fame I think it'd be fun to do a video of repo man stealing his ring
WWE will wait until AX dies to put Demolition into the HOF, because of the lawsuit and the falling out between AX and Vince

I had fond memories of the Repo Man. I knew he was not that popular but I used to love him.
Repo Man could have easily turned babyface by repossessing Ted DiBiase's Million Dollar Championship.

Barry Darsow king of the gimmicks. Saw him many times early in his career in mid-south wrestling as Crusher Darsow/Kruschev. Good talent

They're still both married to the same woman since the 80's, & in this business, that says ALOT about them as Gentleman!

He could of gone after all of the heels and ran that gimik for many years..
He could of easily repo'd equipement and gave the items away to random people in the street (Obviously a set up.. you couldn't really give things like L.O.D's spikes to some random person..lol) He could of gone after Eddies G's car / JBL's limo and he could of been great when DX went to WCW... With a huge repo truck in tail... That could of been epic.

Not sure how a babyface Repo Man would've worked but I got a huge kick out of him as a kid. When he was paired up with Mountie and they would clearly try to outham each other in promos was priceless

oh man that match was awful...all I remember is Virgil somehow getting the pin and being forced to wear that terrible protection over his face...brutal stuff
I remember seeing him as a kid and I liked the character. I thought he was funny and enjoyed hia vignettes and matches.
The Repo Man was one of the most over mid card guys. It was kinda a silly gimmick but he pulled it off. He always put on great matches too. Wish he would have gotten a better push. He deserved it.
I think anybody would’ve done about the same. His laugh was cringe

I think Repo Man would’ve been better being a baby face to start out. It was a gimmick that was perfect for Barry. It’s just to bad, that Demolition had to end, the way it did. Barry was talented for working gimmicks. I also enjoyed the Black Top Bully gimmick also. 👍

A classic example of a “so bad it’s good” wrestling gimmick. It never should have worked, but Darsow was a good enough wrestler and talker that it did.
Repo Man is such an underrated character. Its like oh this goofy guy talking about taking peoples stuff. But it was funny. He would steal cars and make a whole skit out of it. He showed up for an interview with a repossessed bike he took from a kid late on his payment to an interview with Mean Gene. It was actually very entertaining and funny. Folks forget, you need heels and bad guys to make wrestling work. We can't all be faces or anti-heroes as is the case today. You need generic villains like this to make it work.
People can say oh the stupid gimmicks of the early 90s with Repo Man, the Mountie, Skinner, the Dragon..etc. But it was fun. It really was just a great show. And Barry really was great as the Repo Man. It was like if the Riddler from the Batman TV show was suddenly a common thief.. there is the character. And his theme song. If anyone hasen't heard it yet, check it out. Its great.. REPO MAN!!
i still remember it took me forever to figure out who the repo man was because his voice sounded so familiar to me. then i remember in an interview that they would post during a match up in the corner of the screen he said one of his demolision lines. it dawned on me oh shit thats Smash. 1-14-16

Fing Vince, "No more painted faces..." well I got an idea for a dude with a mask, McMahaon: "I LOVE IT...."
Problem is, its not a "face painted" problem. Demolition was always the poorer version of L.O.D. and that is why Demolition got buried to begin with when the L.O.D came to town, the WWF.

Even though most regard Repo Man as a failure & a bad gimmick, its one that's ALWAYS remembered. So, while cartoonish, it made an impact.

I always wanted to find out if I am related to this guy. I think so- he was born in Minnesota and so was my dad. Superficially, anyway, I can’t think of two people more opposite from each other. I am on break- maybe I’ll try and find his number and give him a ring.

I liked repo man but he was never going to get any higher then low middle card, but he was ok. To bad he went to wcw later, could be fun to have him in wwf to 95-96. Dont think a face turn would have worked.
I would have given anything, back a way, to hear the "glass shatters" at the start of the entrance music and then for Repo Man to come out instead of Stone Cold Steve Austin...
McMahon never changed him to babyface because the gimmick wasn't over.
yeah, because kids know what a repo man is. And if an adult told them what a repo man was, they still wouldn't be scared, and they wouldn't cheer or like him eventually either... just like the rest of us
Dude, I was 7 or 8 when the Repo Man was around and I thought he was great. The concept of a repo man isn't too complicated to figure out, especially when it's kind of spelled out for you on the program.
Maybe if he didn't speak like Marv from Home Alone as the" Repo Man".

great gimmick only problem was there's not much of a storyline to be told inside a wrestling ring. there's only so many times you can repo something and the feud lead up to a match payoff.
It’s interesting that Barry Darsow said “Vince was always good to me.” Then less than a year later after this video was made, he became one of the 55 plaintiffs in the ‘concussion lawsuit’ against the the WWE. I guess once the WWE had no more use for Ax and Smash, they figured they’d join a bogus lawsuit against the company. Ax and Smash spent more than 30 years of their careers wrestling ‘outside of the WWE.’ It’s a shame that they decided to to take the low road because they could have been WWE Hall of Famers.
Ok so #1 there's no such thing as "outside of the WWE" anymore (AEW and Billy Corigan's NWA aside for which Darsow never worked). If you spend your whole life buying up all your competitors and making it so you're the only one in the country that's making any real money off of the business then you must be the only one financially responsible for the business.
But #2 Vince is a billionaire. According to Forbes the company will make $314 million in the 2019 fiscal year. I am not going to miss a single second of sleep nor shed a single tear for Vince McMahon and his 2.6 billion dollars (again, according to Forbes). I hope that all those guys get exactly what they want because they deserve it. I love wrasslin because of the wrasslers not because of the fat-headed egotists who run companies.

@@andydhillon1977 No, that's not true. Ax and Smash spent over 90% of their respective careers "outside of the WWE." The reason they joined the concussion lawsuit is because all of the other promotions they worked for "went out of business." As much as I like Demolition, I don't it was fair of them to blame the WWE for all of their physical infirmities, when they spent such a short time there -- AND they continued to wrestle for other promotions long after leaving the WWE.
@@Scorch1028 One thing I learned that has served me well is never assuming I know all the details.
One thing we can all agree on is wrestling has a clear issue of injuries and death unlike anything else. Clearly there are things going on in the background that we don't know.
It doesn't matter how much time they spent in the WWE. The fact that they were in it is enough.
For me to question their motives without knowing much about their experience would be inappropriate. I trust them to make the best judgment.

They should have brought this character back when unemployment was high and the economy was in a recession.
Honestly, as far as gimmicks go.... Papa Shango was a lot worse. The Repo Man Gimmick. I still remember. It was a good one. It really was. I would have liked to have seen him evolve into a good guy. Kind of a masked Zorro or Robin Hood like character. I think it would have gone well. Say something like this. The million dollar man parks his car illegally and some female fan, maybe an old lady, want's to park there. Let's say it's like a wheel chair parking spot, yeah. She calls up the Repo man and is in tears. As Vince and the Million dollar corp. and IRS are going to fine her and have her removed from the arena. Repo Man to the rescue! He smashes the window on Ted Dibiases Limo puts the tow hook on lugs the vehicle away, then he gets into a brawl with dibiase and IRS, etc. Crush comes out and then Ax from Demolition to settle the score. They beat off the Million Dollar Corp, Repo let's the old lady have the parking space free of charge and repossesses the parking fee in full and gives it to the old lady. She thanks him. Crush and Ax leave, never knowing that it was their one time Demolition partner the whole time, and the fans have a new hero :)

Good question. I kinda see the character becoming a likeable Robin Hood type guy, stealing stuff from the heels to give it to kids in the audience and stuff like that. It could have worked, maybe lol
