  • Here is a quick video clip of disassembly of the ICOM 775DSP. It is a known issue that when the radio is powered up, the backlight will flicker on and off until the radio gets warm. Sometimes the issue of the backlight doesn't stop and continues flickering. There is a documented repair of reflowing the right pad of the L6 secondary flatpack transformer. This part in mounted in a tuna type can on the board mounted in back of the front panel. This board is mounted to the front chassis and is easily accessed by removing the complete front panel. If you want the full video you will see the arching of the transformer mounting pad (cold soldering joint) when power to the radio is applied. To make reflow of the pad easier, the front panel was completely removed from the chassis and the chassis was seated vertically. After reflowing of the pad was done, the backlighting no longer flickers at all. Best 73, Len N2LEN

I currently have two of these transceivers and have yet to have this issue. Like all radios they have issues from time to time, one of my 775DSP's developed an issue where the internal antenna tuner would not match any load on 15 and 10 meters. The issue there was a bad relay controller with two channels having weak outputs. For now I have swapped out the entire antenna tuner assembly with a working one till I receive replacement parts. 73!

    Hi,
Do you mean that the flickering display is due to a bad solder on transformer ? I have a 775 with a display flickering, I'm going to change the bulb for a LED strip. But if it's only a bad solder ...
    What do you think ?
    Thanks and 73

After redoing the solder on my transceiver, that works. Don't need to change the bulb ! 73s
