  • The Ryker makes its first road trip! I head up to Austin, TX to the Circuit of the Americas (#COTA) for #motocamping at the Blancpain GT races. It was a cold, wet, windy weekend, but I'm glad that I made the trip. #ryker #canam #motocamping
Saturday night's camping went well, but Sunday went sideways with much worse weather than anyone expected. Winds were ripping at 30+ MPH steady with gusts over 45 MPH at times. My tarp and tent took a beating but survived the adventure intact. My aluminum tent stakes didn't fare so well... 8 out of 16 were damaged beyond repair, and 3 of those were sheared off at the ground line... wow!
I packed up earlier than planned on Sunday afternoon and headed back to the Houston area before the weather got worse. I battled 30-40 MPH lateral winds and sub-40-degree temps most of the way back home, so it was good that I called the game early. Temperatures dropped to below freezing in Austin and the Houston area before midnight.
The Ryker did well on the trip, with the exception of the alignment bug that has not yet been resolved. I have an appointment for next Saturday (2019-03-09) to have the laser alignment performed. The Ryker averaged ~31 MPG on this trip with an average speed of 65 MPH.
The bike's speedometer is 1-2 MPH optimistic vs GPS speeds. The computer's fuel consumption statistics also appear to be ~1 MPG optimistic compared to actual figures. You can track my fuel stats on Fuelly at: www.fuelly.com...
