RYKER: Red Dirt Rykers Fall 2019 meetup - Day 1 - the ride out

- I'm taking the Ryker up to Oklahoma City for a meet-up ride with the Red Dirt Rykers group! Skip to the end of this description for clickable time indexes.
This ride was over 10 hours of video that I managed to edit down to about 36 minutes. The next few days of the ride had much more conversation and content, so those videos will probably be longer in duration.
Most of us had Cardo PackTalk communicators on our helmets, but one rider had a Sena that we couldn't get connected to the group. I tried multiple times to use the PackTalk's Bluetooth bridge mode, but it just wouldn't pair with the Sena for some reason.
Another unfortunate problem is that I couldn't find my spare PackTalk cradle to use an additional radio as a receiver for the group audio. I had intended to record the group audio for inclusion into the video, but I just couldn't find it before I had to depart for the trip. Oh well... maybe next time.
The ride was a success and we didn't encounter any problems today. The morning weather was very chilly, but the afternoon was nearly perfect for riding. We stopped for dinner at Ted's Mexican Cafe Escondido in Oklahoma City for a great dinner, and that's where the ride ended for Day #1. We'll continue with Day 2 for the Route 66 ride to Tulsa, OK.
Time indexes:
0:00 : Ryker load-out description
2:15 : No time to install the AdMore brake light or other accessories... just took care of the necessary bike prep and I hit the road
3:07 : Adjusting the MadStad windscreen to the highest position... it's CHILLY this morning!
6:19 : Stopping to put glove liners into my mesh gloves... temperatures are in the 40's and my fingers are going numb
9:13 : Stopping for breakfast and fuel... I donned the thermal bottoms because my legs were frozen stiff from 40-degree temps.
11:15 : Drafting behind busses and big-rigs to safe fuel... man, I hate doing time on the super-slab
12:45 : I just missed recording the Blue Angels flying formation in the north side of the Fort Worth area
13:50 : Arring at Buc-ee's in Denton
16:31 : The Red Dirt Rykers members arrive
17:56 : Fuel economy discussion... I have run mine at wide-open throttle (102+ MPH) for a full tank of fuel and returned 28.6 MPG, yet slower riding yields only ~30 MPG. My best full tank average is 34.7 MPG, when I was riding calm back roads without much wind (or I had a tailwind) and I was burning ethanol-free fuel.
19:50 : Jacquie trying to catch flying trash bags at 70 MPH
21:12 : Playing in fast traffic, and a new high-speed record for my Ryker... 107 MPH!
22:05 : Douchebag of the week award goes to the tailgating A-hole in the silver Jeep Wrangler, TX plate 917-YUU... why youuuu bastard! 🤣
22:23 : Crossing the Red River bridge into Oklahoma
23:04 : Stopping at the Oklahoma visitor center and rest stop to stretch our legs
26:00 : Stopping in Ardmore for fuel
27:25 : We noticed some volume problems for some of the PackTalk group members... some riders could hear each other fine, while others said that they couldn't hear that person hardly at all
28:10 : The slowest fuel fill-up in history
29:19 : Doing donuts in the gravel lot next to the Shell station... the traction nanny is far too invasive, even in "rally mode"
31:45 : Checking out the wind turbine farm at the south end of the Arbuckle Mountains
32:15 : Stopping to check out the not-so-scenic "Scenic Turnout" at the south end of the Arbuckles
35:27 : Stuck in construction traffic for a while... I ended the recording here, but we'll resume tomorrow.

Great video, possibly the best ever, awesome to see 5 Ryker's together, cant wait for part 2Thanks for taking us along for the ride!!!!
Thx for the feedback! I finished editing most of the Red Dirt Rykers videos and posted them, so I hope you enjoy them! I'll post the last installment for the ride home soon. Cheers! 👍 --QM
That looked like a whole heap of fun.
Getting my 2020 900 rally soon just can't wait 🤤 great vid love to watch theses ...
Thanks for the feedback! I have a bunch more Ryker videos from recent trips that are just sitting in my editing queue. I hope to post more of those in the next few days! Cheers! 👍 --QM
Awesome! Thank you so much! People don't realize all the time, expense & effort it takes to make these videos. I live in NJ. I put 1K miles on my Ryker this summer. All solo miles. Have yet to find another rider in my area.
Thx for the feedback! Yes, you're correct... there is a considerable time investment in making these videos. Taking the rides are easy (and fun), assuming that we can all take time off from work! Editing and creating the final video product is long and tedious... it's a time vampire, but worthwhile when people enjoy the content. Cheers! 👍 --QM
I just picked up my Ryker 2 weeks ago. Awesome ride. I'm in central NJ and looking for other Rykers to ride with.
This was great. I haven't had the luxury of riding with any other ryker's in Massachusetts I think maybe out of laziness then we're all good 40 minutes away from each other lol but it looks like a blast I got to do it
I really like to watch your long highway video rides. Not at all boring. IMO, you could do more highway vids, you show the Ryker's true power of touring, and your the main reason why Im getting the Rally so,keep them coming.
Thx for the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it and that it wasn't too long. I have the attention span of a housefly, so it's hard for me to sit through some long videos. These long rides are tough to compress and still present in a coherent fashion... chopping 8+ hours of riding down into ~30 minutes is a challenge for sure. I haven't edited or posted anything lately because this is my busy season with work (70-90 hrs/week), but I hope to start posting again soon. Thx again for the feedback, and good luck with your upcoming Ryker purchase! Cheers! 👍👍 --QM
107MPH! ... Unbelievable mate! No one can say Rykers don't haul ass ... They go like a Rocket! Great vlog man ... Watchin Pt2 next 👍😁🤟 Beanie
Thx again, Beanie! The Ryker really moves when you twist the wrist. I might check into an ECU upgrade or re-flash sometime to see how it performs without the speed/rev limiter in place. I finished editing and posting most of the Red Dirt Rykers videos, so I hope you enjoy them! I'll post the last installment for the ride home soon. Cheers! 👍 --QM
I got my 600 ryker to 100mph. I did have a decent tail wind AMD was going slightly downhill. I can usually get my 600 to about 94
@@QuasiMotard Can't wait to watch the rest of them mate ... Will drop some more comments when I do 👍😁🤟 Beanie
@@fattywithafirearm That's brilliant mate! ... I've got an F3 but I love the Rykers too! If I could afford it ... I'd have both of them! 👍😁🤟 Beanie
Love these videos. Our group of four Rykers are down waiting for parts so this is as much Ryker fun as we will get for some time. 🙁
Metalpanzerwolf parts for wheel recall?
I'm still editing days 2-4 of this trip... hopefully I'll have most of that done this weekend. We had one member of the group (@fattywithafirearm) that fell victim to the cracked wheel nut issue. It was a spectacular break... clean through the nut and separated by about 1.5-2.0mm gap. He was fortunate that we noticed it while we were stopped for a short break... luckily the wheel didn't entirely come off of the bike. We had to end the ride there, and he was towed back home to wait for parts. We tried calling every dealer in a 300-mile radius... only one shop in Fort Worth, TX had a wheel nut. I was ready to ride down there to pick it up for him, but it was an old-stock unit... not the new/improved design. He just received a call from the dealer a couple of days ago saying that they have the parts in stock... hopefully he will be back on the road soon. --QM
Yeah my left wheel not cracked in half. It will be in 1 of the next quasimotard's vids.
@@fattywithafirearm Yep, that video will be dropping today. 👍 --QM
getting my Ryker delivered thijs saturday, cant wait!!
Congrats! 🎉👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard So I just got it. and was super excited about it. The Delivery Guy drove it inside my garage because it was raining like crazy! Now the rain stopped and I went outside to test ride it, and it wont start! I might be doing something wrong! I just posted a video to see if somebody has a tip, while the dealership answers! Ugh!! 🤦🏾♀️
@@inea815 I just left a comment on your video. That looks like an ECU error. You are starting the bike correctly, but the ECU isn't keeping the engine running. 😪 --QM
Looks like a lot of fun!
It was a real blast! I highly recommend finding a few friends and doing a 2-3 day roadtrip of you can swing it. Many thanks to the Red Dirt Rykers group! 👍👍 --QM
Man U guys are moving!! I saw that 600 doing its thing wit keeping up wit u guys
Yep, he was hanging with the 900's very well. We were able to run about 85 mph and not leave him behind. I had a poke him a few times when we flew by at triple-digit speeds... all in good fun, though. 😉 We are planning another meet-up down here in Texas early next spring. I wouldn't mind heading back up there sometime soon, but Oklahoma winters are no fun... too cold and wet for pleasure riding. Cheers! 👍 --QM
My 600 can do pretty well. But getting to triple digit speeds is almost impossible on the 600. But the 600 can routinely hit 90-93 easily.
Thanks Quasimotard, Nick Norris, David Simmons and David Landolfi for the epic weekend adventures we had... Spring 2020 need to make another weekend of shenanigans... lots of great info for those still looking for the perfect Ryker...
Thx Jacquie! I just realized that I spelled your name wrong in the video captions several times! DOH! 🤦♂️ --QM
No worries it happens all the time...
I'm glad we could organize this meet up. I want to come down to Houston next time. That would he fun.
Yep, we need to arrange a meet-up down here somewhere with some other Ryker owners. There are quite a few good roads and moto-camping spots out west of the Houston area. 👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard david S. And I could come down next spring. We could bring a tent and moto camp.
Looks so fun. I don’t have a Ryker yet, but plan on getting one probably spring of next year. If I do, I’ll join you guys. I live in the Tulsa area.
Look for our group on FB. Red dirt rykers
fattywithafirearm I just requested to join.
Nice video man, I’m planning to buy the Ryker too , hard to find it right know and I totally new to this moto, so I was thinking about 600 or 900 and I think I go with 600 with some upgrades, start from windshield and more. You got new subscriber +++
Thanks for the feedback, and good luck with your Ryker shopping! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Awesome vid. It is cool to see a "fleet" of Rykers. I'll be purchasing mine tomorrow and am wondering if is a website for Spyder/Ryker meetups? Here in Louisiana all I see are two wheels...
Sir I created the red dirt ryker group. Bc there was not much in the way of 3 wheel groups in Oklahoma.
Unfortunately, most of the 3-wheel crowd so far has been older riders on the Spyder and H-D platforms. That isn't meant as an insult, it's just a difference in riding styles and preferences. The Ryker is a more "youthful" riding mode and it's being marketed as such, so that creates a new market segment full of new (and mostly younger) riders. I have toyed with the idea of starting a few Ryker-specific forums and meet-up boards, but I haven't had the time to capitalize on the opportunity yet. I have already purchased several suitable domain names... I just need to find the right software platform to launch that boat and then see if people are interested in jumping on board. It would be interesting to see local/city groups and regional groups form to have rides and meet-ups! Cheers! 👍 --QM
just converted the temp i would have had my thermals on before i left home but i would not have left home on the bike in that temp. i am 66
Great video. I noticed you prefer ethanol free over unleaded. Just curious why?
Thx for the feedback! As for the fuel preference... that's a long discussion, but here is my short answer...
The primary reason is that ethanol fuels are hydrophilic (they attract/collect water because of the alcohol content), and that water is very hard on smaller vehicles' fuel systems. The added water content (and the ethanol itself) causes gasoline to degrade faster, which causes sediment build-up in the fuel. These sediments and added contaminants clog fuel system components. Fuel-injected systems in most modern cars and motorcycles don't suffer too badly from ethanol damage, but carbureted systems can be crippled by ethanol deposits after just a few days/weeks of sitting still (clogged idle jets). Over the past 10 years or so, I have spent countless hours cleaning out the carburetors on several of my bikes because they can't sit longer than a few weeks without clogging up (even if I run the carburetors dry or drain the bowls). The ethanol (and water) create hard, white, crusty deposits that are almost like sand (or concrete!) in the float bowls and inside the tiny jet orifices. Sometimes, the jets can't be cleaned out and must be replaced. It's really annoying. Fuel stabilizers can minimize the effect somewhat, but the only cure is to completely eliminate the ethanol/alcohol from the fuel.
The secondary reason is fuel density/efficiency. When gasoline contains ethanol, it reduces the BTU density of the fuel, which results in lower engine performance and fuel economy (less heat equals less work). Some engines and fuel systems can be tuned specifically to run with ethanol (like Flex-fuel and E85 vehicles), but all other "normal" gasoline engines will experience degraded performance with ethanol in the fuel. We pay the same price (or more) for ethanol-laden fuels, but they contain less energy density... this causes us to burn more and pay more. It's a lose-lose situation.
Anyway... that's just my $0.02. I just prefer "pure gas" because it's less hassle for me in terms of maintenance, and it ALWAYS performs better from a power/efficiency standpoint. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Great video. I'm thinking about getting a Ryker. It sounds like you're communicating with the others what are you using?
Thx for the feedback! We were using the Cardo PackTalk Bold mesh communicators on this trip. They worked extremely well with the minor exception of not being able to link one member's Sena bluetooth into the mesh. There have been some recent Cardo firmware updates that might resolve that problem, but I haven't tested it again recently. Cheers! 👍 --QM
Very cool! Can you send a link for the windscreen? That's nice! Thx
Thx for the feedback! That screen is the MadStad Engineering 18" light gray: madstad.com/collections/can-am/products/can-am-ryker-2019 . I would recommend going with the next size up if you are between sizes. I think the 20" would have been better for me, but it's still a huge difference over the BRP sport windscreen. Cheers! 👍 --QM
Hi there, great footage. I'm getting a Ryker in 2 weeks and I will mostly be riding in the city. The top highway speed here is 55 mph (Washington, DC area) I will never ride two up just me. What would you recommend between the 600, 900 or the Rally? I was thinking the Rally because of the tires and suspension but you have mention that the regular ryker tires are better.... how is that and would I need better suspension just for normal riding around town? Thanks
My recommendation to anyone shopping the Ryker is to get the 900 ACE (non-Rally). If you decide to add the MAX mount for rear cargo (or passenger) capabilities or change to the adjustable suspension, then you can upgrade those items easily. The factory non-adjustable suspension will probably be fine for your riding. I would also recommend installing the thicker BRP sway bar because it really helps with body roll and allows for better handling/cornering.
The Rally's adjustable KYB suspension leaves a lot to be desired in terms of ride quality and adjustability. The front shocks are only adjustable for spring preload, but not for compression or rebound settings. The rear shock has spring preload and only a single knob for compression and rebound damping (combo, not independent). The available FOX shocks are probably a better option... or just shop the aftermarket if the need arises.
The Rally's "all-season" tires are rubbish, and the "Rally mode" is more of a gimmick than a useful riding mode. Everyone hoped that the "rally mode" would disable the rear traction control and let you smoke the rear tire at-will and power slide it (drift) around corners, but that's not the case. The traction nanny is always there just waiting to intrude on the fun. 😉
I don't recommend the 600 over the 900 because the difference in fuel economy is very slight, and the 900's performance is significantly higher... it's more fun to ride, and you won't kick yourself later wondering if "maybe I should have gotten the bigger motor". The 900 is also more popular, so it will probably have a better resale in the future as well. Good luck shopping, and have fun with your new Ryker.. they are a hoot to ride! Cheers! 👍 --QM
Nice vlog Q? Where did you get the light for you're handlebars!?
Thx for the feedback! If you're asking about the LED's in the handguards, those are the Can-Am Handguard Lights ($134.99): can-am.brp.com/on-road/shop/ryker-accessories/lights-accessories/lights/handguard-lighting.html . They look cool, but they don't really add much forward lighting... they are just a visual accessory for the most part. 👍 --QM
The video was outstanding where can I find out about the "Red Dirt Rykers" group? p.s. appreciate your opinion about which model Ryker one could buy when someone like myself is on the fence over the different models.
You can find them on Facebook... just search for "Red Dirt Rykers" and request to join. One of the group owners will approve you quickly. --QM
We are an Oklahoma based ryker group for Oklahoma riders currently.
Great video! Enjoyed it a lot. You got some kind of lever at the gas to keep the speed? Anyhow, on the edge of getting one. Ace or Rally?
Thx for the feedback! Yes, I have the GoCruise throttle lock on most of my bikes, and that allows me to move my hand around and not get cramped up. You can search my channel for the Ryker "cruise control hack" video to get the details.
I would recommend purchasing the 900 ACE and then upgrade the suspension and add the MAX mount (if you need the cargo or passenger options). The non-Rally wheels and tires are better, IMHO, and the "Rally mode" is more of a marketing gimmick than a useful riding mode. The traction control nanny is too intrusive in all modes, and the Rally mode doesn't change that like I had hoped. I wanted it to disable rear TC, but it's just about the same as "sport" mode... still can't drift the rear tire more than a couple of seconds before the nanny shuts down the fun. So, if I had it to do over again, I would get the 900 ACE and spend the difference on upgraded suspension and other accessories. Good luck with your shopping... I think you'll enjoy the Ryker... it's a hoot to ride! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard Appreciate your feedback a lot! Really good advise, it's always nice to upgrade and making your ride personal. The only real issue is see is the front tires and the lack of options. Another question, have you done an alignment? Would be nice to see how your setup is.
You can find me on FB if you want to discuss more :)
@@andreasstrid5822 Sure, sounds good! I will look you up on FB to exchange contacts. You can reach me by email at quasimotard@gmail.com anytime. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Ahh the early morning trip Aaron i imagine the winter is coming to you as well as it is here in England.
I think your pretty lucky with WX we have had a almost whole weekend of rain etc and i spent some of it trying to get my GN250 to run better.
Your 5 hour Journey how many times did you have to fill up there and back home?
What comms radios are you using ? is it those family radio low range stuff in UHF i think. we have 446 MHZ half a watt radios over here.
We usually don't have severe winter weather in the Houston area... mostly just cold and wet. This cold front that passed through the area on the previous day brought an "early winter" for this trip. The afternoons were warmer and very good for riding... windy, but tolerable. The entire journey from Houston (south Texas) to Oklahoma City (central Oklahoma) is ~500 miles one-way and takes about 7-8 hours, depending on road conditions and weather. My entire trip, including all of the riding within Oklahoma, was ~1445 miles in total. The Ryker consumed 48.55 US gallons at an average cost of $2.77 USD/gallon. So, the total fuel cost for this trip was $134.89 and averaged 29.86 MPG (US gallons). The Ryker isn't nearly as fuel-efficient as my other bikes, but spending only $135 USD for a 5-day fun run isn't too bad in my book! 😉👍 --QM
We are using the Cardo PackTalk communicators. They use a proprietary "DMC" mesh-network communication protocol over the 2.4GHz Bluetooth frequencies that allows for approximately a 1-mile distance between riders (under ideal conditions), up to 15 riders at one time, and a maximum group-mesh range of 5 miles. We were impressed with how well they worked overall. There were a few glitches, but I'm sure that I can figure those out eventually. 👍 --QM
Hey Quasi. I am taking my Ryker Safety training class in December. What is recommendation for Helmet and riding wear for later. I am a big guy so I need larger size jackets and rain wear.
Congrats on the training class (and hopefully the new Ryker)! The gear discussion is a long one, and it largely depends on rider preferences, your budget, and your riding duties (e.g. weather conditions hot/cold, rain, commute duties, etc). The traditional view on motorcycle gear and safety is ATGATT (All The Gear All The Time), but real-world riding rarely pemits wearing all of the safety equipment. The ATGATT mantra covers all of the safety gear: helmet, jacket, pants, boots, gloves, back protection (and optional chest and neck protection in race scenarios).
I'm more of a MOTGATT (Most Of The Gear All The Time) rider... that means a minimum of the following items:
1. Modular helmet: the flip-up type helmets provide full face/chin protection and still allow you to open the helmet for drink breaks or to cool off your face in hot weather. Open-face helmets don't provide enough protection for impact or debris (e.g. rocks, pebbles, insects, flying chunks of whatever the car/truck in front of you just kicked up from the pavement). Prices and features for the modular helmets vary greatly, but you can expect to spend at least $300 on a decent unit. My current lid is the Schuberth C3 Pro ($850 + add-ons). The spending budget all boils down to comfort, noise levels, and "how much is your brain worth?" 😉 You really do get what you pay for in a helmet... the higher-priced helmets are more comfortable, quieter, and tend to last longer than the cheaper helmets.
2. Riding jacket: I prefer 3-season mesh jackets that allow plenty of airflow, but still have optional (zip-out) insulated liners for heat management. Houston is hot and humid, so airflow is important. Good CE-rated armor in the shoulders, elbows, and back are also important.
3. Gloves: I prefer to ride with mesh gloves most of the year (including rain) due to Houston's heat. I will carry waterproof or insulated gloves when I know that it will be wet or cold... numb hands/fingers on a motorcycle are a Bad Thing. Armored knuckles and leather-reinforced palms are important features for any glove to protect from impact and abrasion. A more expensive option that covers both wet and dry would be GoreTex gloves, but they tend to be very hot and they aren't cheap. My all-time favorite gloves are the HELD Air-n-Dry gloves ($250+), but they are hard to get in the USA... overseas resellers are the only option now.
4. Riding boots/shoes: motorcycle-specific riding boots or shoes are mandatory for foot and ankle protection. I prefer the waterproof variety with GoreTex lining that lets me ride rain or shine... my current favorite is the TPX Explorer EVO ($220 www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/tcx-explorer-evo-gore-tex-boots).
5. Rain suit: this is optional, but highly recommended if you don't like riding with swamp balls. I always carry a lightweight rainsuit with me for unexpected rain events (Frogg Toggs Ultra-Lite2, $16: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SE133O ), or a standard 2-piece suit for days that I expect rain (Nelson Rigg Aston AS-3000, $86: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C9U1CRY ). You could opt for a full 4-season riding jacket and pants, but they get very spendy very quickly. Aerostitch, Klim, and Olympia have some great all-season suits, but you can expect to spend at least $600 on most of those and upwards of $1200 for GoreTex gear. I have done that in the past, but I find that the 4-season and GoreTex gear tends to be too hot for Houston's climate.
Good luck with your gear selection and shopping! It might take a while to find the right pieces to complete your kit, but that's part of the fun of riding, IMHO. The best way to try out helmets and jackets is to find a local Cycle Gear or your motorcycle dealer to try things on before you buy. Cheers! 👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard Thank you I will begin looking at choices now.
I forget to mention..... the rally has a higher ground clearance as well correct? Do you notice the higher ground clearance or is it about the same? Thanks again
Per Can-Am's marketing materials last year, the Rally edition was supposed to have 1 extra inch of ground clearance, but that's not the case. The official spec sheets list the Rally at 4.4" and the non-Rally models at 4.0" of ground clearance. The important thing to note is that the front nose is actually a bit lower than that when laden with rider weight and a full tank of fuel. I have measured the front clearance on my bike at just under 4" at normal road weight... the front chin spoiler on the Rally hangs down just a bit. So, anyone that has aspirations of taking these bikes offroad should be aware that the radiator is skimming along at ~4" above the ground just looking for a stick or rock to end your fun. 😉👍 --QM
I was wondering if you every got the squirrely steering issue resolved?
Nope... it still wanders around too much in my opinion. I will be swapping the tires and taking it to a different dealer sometime soon... they will redo the laser alignment and install a few other bits to see if I can resolve the "tail-wag" that I experience on my Rally edition. --QM
At 27:14 I hear a high pitch whine. Is that your fuel pump? Just wondering because I’ve noticed mine makes that noise at or below half tank of gas but goes away when it’s cooler or more gas in the tank. Wondering I if it’s normal for motorcycles . No loss of power or sputtering just that noise
Yes, that is the fuel pump, and it's a know defect that is under a pending recall. BRP hasn't done a pro-active recall for affected units yet. I was advised by my dealer that I will need to wait for it to fail... that's not so great. I haven't noticed any problems with my bike's performance yet, and the noise generally happens when ambient (or bike) temperatures are warmer... fuel level doesn't seem to make any difference with mine. You might ask your dealer to check the recall status on your bike next time you're in for service. Cheers! 👍 --QM
QuasiMotard hmm yeah I checked and there are no recalls for my VIN but will contact the dealer. Thanks !
I just bought a Ryker Rally a couple of weeks ago. I Live in the OKC area. Are the Red Dirt Rykers group on Facebook?
Congrats on your new Ryker! Yes, you can find the Red Dirt Rykers on FB. Just send the request to join the group and I'm sure one of the founders will respond quickly! Cheers! 👍 --QM
Glad we could get you in our group Mr. K
Nice..I just bought the 600,Love it!!!
I’m wanting to purchase a ryker. I like the looks best on the ace 900. I like the ideal of rally mode for drifting but is it really much notable difference? Doesn’t really fit my definition of drifting...
I would recommend the 900 ACE for several reasons: better-looking wheels, better tires, and the full rear fender. I thought that the "rally mode" would turn off the rear traction control and let me drift or spin the tire as much as I wanted, but that's not the case. If I were to purchase the Ryker again, I would get the 900 ACE and then add the MAX mount, the handguards, the upgraded FOX suspension (front and rear), and the radiator guard (comes standard on the Rally). The Rally mode seems to be more of a marketing gimmick than a useful riding mode. I don't notice much difference at all between "sport" and "rally"... the traction nanny is always too intrusive, IMHO. Maybe an ECU upgrade or re-flash can solve that for us one day?! 😉👍 Cheers! --QM
It's either one of these, or an Mx-5.
Oohhh... that's a tough choice. I've owned both, and they each have their specific fun-factors! The MX5 is obviously more practical than the Ryker. However, the Ryker has a certain hoodlum factor to it that's really addictive. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
2 GPS running ?
Yes, it is redundant, but they serve different functions. I use my Garmin Zumo GPS (left side) for most of the mapping and route information. I also use my phone to run Waze for traffic alerts and other routing information, but I don't depend on it because Waze has a tendency to stop working or close sometimes without warning (missed turns and wasted time). The phone is linked to my Cardo PackTalk headset, so I listen to music (and the Waze alerts) while riding on longer trips. The Garmin Zumo is not linked via Bluetooth because it doesn't play very well with the music. Cheers! 👍 --QM
Is that a 900cc Ryker?
Yes, my bike is the Rally edition (900 ACE). All of the other bikes in this meet-up were 900's in either the Rally trim or the normal 900 ACE, except for one that was a 600 ACE (Nick on the black bike with the pannier and windscreen). The 600 ACE was able to keep up without any problems except when we turned it up above 95 mph. Cheers! 👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard Thank you for the info!
@@QuasiMotard what about the fuel consumption? have you ridden with a passenger? Does it still get over 75 mph with a passenger?
@@norbertovelezborrero2491 The 900 has no problem running 95-100 MPH with a passenger onboard. The fuel economy dropped only slightly while riding 2-up, probably due to the extra wind resistance (the passenger seat places the pillion higher above the rider's helmet). The average fuel economy of my Rally 900 is usually 28-31 MPG, regardless of how I ride it... being "nice" to it doesn't seem to improve the figures that much. You can track my fuel stats on Fuelly here if you're interested: www.fuelly.com/driver/QuasiMotard . Cheers! 👍 --QM

QuasiMotard wow holy guacamole.I went yesterday to test ride a 2019 Can am Ryker Rally 900 . 100 miles they asking $8900 percent condition. I thought I would love it but I didn’t fall in love with it. I guess I would go for 2019 Polaris RZR 1000 RS1 . $12000 200 miles
I don’t get why you have a gps and still using your phone as another gps
It's the Department of Redundancy Department ( ua-cam.com/video/xpAvcGcEc0k/v-deo.html ). 🤣 I typically use Waze on my phone because it gives real-time traffic alerts (police notices, etc), but it has a tendency to go to sleep or quit without notice. The Garmin Zumo is nearly bullet-proof in terms of reliability, but it doesn't always give the best routes, and it doesn't have real-time traffic or weather. My phone is also my music DJ... playing Spotify or Amazon Music in the background (can't hear it on the GoPro audio, luckily). --QM
