Thanks for doing this episode - I have recently bought an S3 Dbl Six and watched your one about setting the throttle bodies up and was about to start that only to find the spindles rattling around as the bushes had completely disintegrated. Previous owners solution was to create a new bush by wrapping electrical tape around the spindle - which surprisingly, is useless but about the level of all the other work that has been done on the car. I have ordered a set of the teflon ones and looking forward to fitting those. I have also removed the network of wiring, vac lines and valves that cuts the vac advance while the engine warms up. It neatens up the engine bay a lot and the engine runs better. I am enjoying the challenge of learning a new engine and finding the V12 fairly easy to work on so far. Thanks again for a great channel. :o)
Used a set of those bushings about a year ago on my 1991 and they are absolutely great! Installing is as easy as shown in the video. Nothing needs to be removed (except the old bushing that is falling apart).
Doh! Just did this job with the old style black bushings. Took me almost two hours! They don’t just push in - you have to remove the throttle bodies, or various other parts to get at it. If anyone is thinking of doing this job, I would wholeheartedly recommend these newer style bushings that just push right in.
Came back to add a comment, I recently bought these improved throttle shaft bushes from Jag Improver on ebay, and the install was super easy. The latest version also has a wave washer that sits under the delrin flange, it helps to keep some tension on the C-clip to hold the bush in place when installed. It fixed a bit of a "sticking" feeling the pedal, as the original bushes were 1/2 gone on one side and 1/4 gone on the other! Throttle response is much better now, as would be expected.
You can easily replace the stock bushings by loosening the linkage on the throttle rod, pushing it back towards the throttle, and removing the c clip on the shaft. The rod should be able to be removed without taking the cap off the intake manifold.
Already replaced mine along with the little metal clips that hold the rods in place. Well done for pointing out what is too often missed though, great work.

Yeah make sure your throttle butterfly housing is clean, set your butterfly gaps to 0.002" and work back with linkages and bushes to the pedistle rods. Don't forget your kickdown adjustment.

XJ-S + HE, XJ-40, XK8, XJ8, XJ-350, X-Type, later S-Type, Daimler Limousine. not in that order, great times really enjoyed it, Particularly liked doing smash work for a change, ie: having a body shell next to the smashed vehicle and changing all the parts over, doesn't pay these days, cars are written off. Gave away all my factory books & coarse notes & sevice bulletins, cheers from uk. 50 years where's it gone.
One thing I would add is if you just took it all apart and threw it back together, or for whatever reasons it was all a little out of wack, once you have adjusted all the linkages, the TPS could be off, mine was and it was unerving to have the revs shoot to 2k and then drop to idle, and back up. I expected it might happen and the TPS can be adjusted under the Throttle capstain to fall back within range. Take throttle rods off, Capstain off, and TPS sensor is directly underneath. Just open the sensor connection so you can use a voltmeter to get your readings. I don't want to misquote what the setting should be on the voltmeter, but that information is easily found.

Great Video You definitely explain everything in a way that people like myself can understand.. I have acquired 1989 XJS v 12 and i am finishing it up on making road worthy and MY everyday drive I checked my bushing and they are gone.. I have sent e-mail to Mr. Jodas for those bushing. I have not heard anything back.. Can you assist in acquiring those teflon bushing..
Hi Adam, where did you get those shiny intake elbows from? I've been trying to get a pair in the UK but can't find any online to replace the old airboxes!

Great job on your video's.. I thought i knew these cars inside, out. But got me on couple things... my son and I have completely restomod the jaguar xjs.. completely polished the engine, custom air snorkels, shaved doors, custom interior, 2 1/2" ss exhaust,,etc, etc.. its been good, but for the life of me I cannot get rid of idling hunting up and down and rich b bank.. have seen this or heard of.. any ideas would be great. yes i had to change these a few years ago. its a common problem
