Thanks for being awesome. I never read this series, and likely wouldn't have gone back to read it anytime soon, so it's awesome to have a quality video to watch about it. Even though "Crisis" is now synonymous with huge reality altering events in the DCU it was originally used for crossover events between Earth One and Earth Two, in particular involving team-ups between the Justice League and its Earth 2 counterpart, the Justice Society. These "Crises" happened roughly once a year from the mid sixties to the early 80s. The majority of these team-ups used the word "Crisis" in the Title, which Crisis on Infinite Earths then borrowed because it too involved interactions between multiple universes.
I read all of these stories as they were hitting the shelves, but I LOVE Sal's re-tellings of them. Sal is naturally funny, he doesn't even have to try.
Sal, your Wonder Woman double deuce salute dialog ranks #3 in my fave Back Issues moments. #2 Goddamn Batman, #1 Death of Superman Writers Corps Escalation
This is my go to video whenever my mind gets melted with DC's confusing timeline-changing events. This sums up everything perfectly since Crisis on Infinite Earths up until recent events.
I wish infinite crisis had an infinite episode. I just can't get enough. I've probably seen every back issues (aside from the most recent ones) at least three times.
I come in from a night out and I feel down and this is here and all of a sudden things don't seem so bad, and I can't thank all of you at ComicPop enough
@ComicPop First off, liked this episode. Fun stuff even though obviously things were left out. If anybody is curious about the "Earth 2" universe though, thought I'd clarify. The "history" of that universe before New 52 (which pretty much created an entirely different multiverse if you don't pay a lot of attention to Convergence) includes most of the Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman stories from their first publication to the early 1960s (more or less) As well as the first versions of Green Lantern (who isn't a space cop but has a magic ring and purple cape) The Flash (who has a helmet and got powers from hard water vapor) Power Girl (think older, more mature stronger Supergirl) The Atom (can't shrink, just a short dude with a strong punch) Hawkman (not an alien cop, is reincarnated and uses magic egyptian metal) and has all the kind of campy Silver Age side characters like Krypto, Beppo the Monkey, the Bat-mite, Mr. Mxypltyk and the really campy versions of the villains. The super team is The Justice Society and also includes fun rando characters like Hourman and Dr. Midnite as well as the silly golden age characters that never got into the public mindset. This is a universe where Superman has situational telekinesis, helper robot versions of himself, superventriloquism (he can throw his voice from the void of space), superspeed reading, fires mini clone versions of himself from his hands, and ridiculous superstrength, as well as no doubt weird single issue things nobody kept track of,. Also because that universe started out in the 1940s and wasn't "destroyed/absorbed" until 1986 many of its heroes had children that themselves became superheroes and had titles for those heroes, Also older Batman becomes Commissioner of Gotham marries Catwoman and has a daughter, Helena Wayne, the first and current Huntress, before dying fighting one last random magic semi-sorcerous thief. Superman becomes chief editor of the Daily Planet is happily married to Lois before Crisis on Infinite happens. Wonder Woman marries Steve Trevor and also has a superhero daughter I can't remember the name of. Every hero but the Big Three somehow got folded into the main dc with minor changes following the first Crisis. The Earth 2 heroes actually fought Hitler and Nazis but couldn't go to Europe to beat him because he had the Spear of Destiny (which in that universe can mind control any superpowered characters in a certain radius). Weird Stuff huh? All that said, the rebooted version New 52 created is a really good comic (Called : Earth 2 and Earth 2: Society) notwithstanding some of what they did with it in Convergence and I recommend it because it made interesting versions of the Golden Age characters and isnt as important to maintain continuity so its a universe wheres Supes, orig Batman, and Wonder Woman were all killed saving the World from Darkseid. Super long, super nerdy post, hope somebody curious benefits from it. Nice Job Comic pop gang!
Ethan wondered why Earth 2 Superman looks old....its because that Superman started fighting crime in 1938 and went into the "paradise dimension" in 1986. he had gray temples on Earth 2 even before Crisis. Whereas Post-Crisis Superman (the "main" one in this story) basically took up the mantle in the Early 1980s (that was the very first attempt to "modernize and retcon" comics and in comic continuity).
Brian Adkins I thought the creation of Earth 2 was the retcon. Pretty sure "Flash of two worlds" was the first in comics reference to Jay Garrick apart from Barry reading a Flash comic book in his origin story before being struck by lightning
I decided to get Final Crisis after this......I will pay you guys to try to explain what the hell happens in that book, it makes less sense than my Physics 101 summer course

there's something I don't get, barry was the pre crisis flash, and everyone in the post crisis world lost memory of the pre crisis world due to the retcon, hence why no one recognized superboy prime, but wally became flash to honor barry, and the post crisis world is a separate continuity to the pre crisis, so how did barryvand wally know each other and why was barry still dead in the post crisis world and not retconned?
