I used to buy a ton of taco bell burritos, generic colas, candy, small deodorant, and bottled water on payday and go to these two bridges near my house and hand it out. It was all I could do, but they were so happy to receive it! This is a brilliant idea. Bless you!
Female personal hygiene products are great to give as well. Homeless shelters and church food pantries usually do not carry these. Thank you for what you do!
@Vivien Bissell This comment is disgusting. People from all walks of life are on the streets and not everyone is there just because they want to be. Some lost their jobs and can't find one or are getting turned down for some reason. Some have health issues, and especially mental health makes it difficult to find employment. If you're a guy, you might wanna look up in detail what happens during a female menstrual cycle. If you're a woman, you ought to be ashamed of yourself -- imagine being on your period and not having any pads or anything as a substitute. If a lady has lost her home and is searching for employment, even if it were for a week or less, what if it happened during "that time of the month"? I hope you are never in need of help. Maybe you think humans need to live on their own and never interact. Do you realize how hard it is for some people to accept charity? Charity isn't even a bad word, and yet nowadays it's used as one. Please take a good look at yourself and try to figure out why you treat fellow human beings with so much bitterness. [Edit]: also, the original comment might not even be made to ask for anything on behalf of themselves, but for other women who might need it.
Hi. I was doing similar. however, I realised that women out on the streets are likely not to have periods. with all the stress, lack of bodyweight/fat and lack of mineral balance (especially those taking drugs, etc) the body shuts down the menstrual cycle. I was going person to person and they were saying "I don't get my period". I ended up returning the items.
@@greenearthblueskies8556 yeah. Same with female athletes, fighters, etc. And students! In training, during study and being under stress causes the menstrual cycle to stop. Bad diet and severe weight loss are a major cause though.
Add a couple paperback novels from a thrift store. Goodwill sells them for 88 cents per in my town. I was inspired by this video and just made my first backpack the other day. I forgot to shop at Dollar General, so my first one cost about $28. But I included 2 composition notepads, mechanical pencils, and 2 paperback novels in mine. I think this could make a marvelous difference in someone's day. It will show them that some of us still care. I feel this will do so much more than handing out $5 as I've done in the past. Thanks for sharing this.
I am homeless since 2011 due to my mental illness and i want to say thank you and i love you so much the people that make the care packages are true saints in this world
UA-cam comments at their finest right here. These people spend their own time and money to put together potentially life saving, hope giving, useful, thoughtful kits for people that are in serious need. Its an incredible thing to do for no personal gain. This is the kind of reminder that we all need that the world is full of good, decent people. And then you scroll down to see religious and political war being waged in the comment section. This is an inspiring gesture of kindness, and we could all take a leaf from this couples book,
I'm not a religious person myself but it is great you guys are doing this I will start doing this ASAP. You have given me more ideas. I live in Minnesota and it gets horrible cold here too. My fiance and I often prepare packages of storage containers with home cooked food in there including made from scratch bread. Our finances are always up and down, so we do this when we can. There are several corners where we see homeless people--and since both of us had been homeless at one point--we find it's the least we can do to provide warm from scratch food.
Wonderful idea! You never know who can go homeless and how devastating it can be. A gift of generosity and compassion like this can really help someone less fortunate. ! I'm going to get some of these together. Thank you and God Bless!
Such a simple and elegant solution. I feel like such an idiot for having not done it myself. Thanks so much for the idea, and thank you for doing this.
I am moved. I belong to a non-profit organization where some of our chapters serve at homeless shelters. I will share this video with our volunteers. God Bless you. Gaurang Vaishnav, NJ
Thanks for posting this video and especially for helping people living on the streets. Because of your video I have started making Homeless Backpack Care Kits every month and handing them out to folks in need. Peace
Great video. Homelessness touches all walks of life from the addicted to the plain unlucky. I'll be building a backpack or two this weekend. Thank you.
This is such a great idea! We are starting on this project today. I love some of the ideas in the comments too - like adding a book to read. So much good information. Thank you!
Myself, my husband and 2 children have been doing this for about a year. We go to Disneyland about once a month where TRUE homelessness is rampant. We have met wonderful people. My 8 year old really bonded with an elderly woman and it brought me to tears. We make as many care bags as we can and my 8 year old passes them out at the bus stops on our way back to the hotel around midnight or later (that's when you'll find most of them settle for the night). They are usually thankful. We will get dinner for everyone at a particular bus stop and only a few have refused out of the entire year. It was so expensive at first but I learned how to coupon for free or extremely cheap items. Let me tell you---it's a full time job! So I do my best with the time I have. But it's very rewarding. Buy a few copies of your Sunday papers and get to work-you'll be glad you did.
how wonderful that there are people like you in the world. I'd like to mention the Gubbio Project in San Francisco. This gives the homeless one of the most precious gifts - sleep! The Franciscan church opens its doors at 6:00 AM and allows the homeless to sleep in its pews all day, even during services. Blankets and pillows provided.
What a great idea! I am going tomorrow and start a few of your backpacks. Thank God for people like you who not only look out for other people but share how you do it with all of us. God Bless You!
What a wonderful idea. Not only for the homeless, but also for each family member to have stached aside for emergency purposes. Anytime we can offer some help to those who are homeless, is NOT wasted. Homelessness can hit anyone for any number of reasons. A project like this would be awesome for a church to do as a community service. If everyone did something for even ONE person, think of the impact it would have!
Pamela M You're correct. Many things in life can render us all without a place to sleep at any given time. Personally. I am a firm beleiver that if I have more than my share of anything, I give to someone who has less. To make the world a better place, it begins with each person caring about someone other than themselves.
Thank you for the inspiration. I would like to add that you could also add information for organizations to help them with needs they may help. I personally did not know their was help for addiction for the longest time. I could have recovered faster with a little information.
This is SUCH a fantastic idea!! There are tons of homeless people that hang out in the neighborhood where I live and I've wanted to do something like this but didn't really know what kinds of products to buy and hadn't really thought of just keeping a supply of these backpacks ready to hand out as needed. I'm totally doing this!
People that make themselves feel better by hurting others? That's what is going on here but you are too blinded by bleeding heart conditioning to recognize it.
This is a great video and excellent idea. I ride the bus into work and daily see the same 2-3 homeless who stay near the bus stop. I've seen them enough to know a couple of their names and have heard some of their conversations. They have their issues for sure but they are decent and interesting people. I hope to put together a couple of these packs and surprise them one morning. Thanks for the inspiration!
woooooow.... so much hate on a video that does nothing but good. my family use to be homeless. my dad was down on his luck, disabled military vet and my sister is handicapped. we did not qualify at the time, because of paperwork took years to get done. my dad was depressed and could not keep a job. my family was starving. living from shelter to shelter, friend to friend, and some times the streets. no one cared about us, no one liked us, we liked no one. we went to a soup kitchen and the people there were so nice it changed my dads outlook on life for a few days. in those few days my dad ran into a old friend, got an old job back and we got back on our feet. a year later my sisters paperwork got filed and processed and my dad started getting his VA disablilty checks. all this because a few people were so nice to us that it changed our lifes. SO THOSE FUCKERS SAYING THINGS NEGATIVE ABOUT THIS CAN GROW THE FUCK UP. i have been here, i have needed these things, i have not had these things. a little help goes along way. a little hope can inspire a nation.
I agree. I do not understand why there would be over 600 thumbs down on this video for a couple who are out there trying to make a difference. Love is giving of ourselves. We are blessed to be a blessing for others.
Alan Chambers agreed. I’m wondering what makes a person so sick as to see a video that is helping people and make them tap the thumbs down. God willing, natural selection will play it’s course and they can live in Hell with their “God”
Thank you so much for all you do!! I myself have been on both sides of this coin...sleeping under bushes outside of churches, to giving the guy outside the gas station asking for change the other $10 change from the 20 I just broke. I can't express enough how we need more of this in the world. Peace love and light!
Very kind of you to do this. It might also be a good idea to include names, addresses and telephones numbers of organizations that offer support to the homeless and help getting back on their feet. I'm sure many wouldn't think twice about seeking out help from one but if someone shows their kindness in this way they might actually consider it.
I love this ...these are good people and I love this way of helping the homeless get things they need and there is no worry of them spending what you give them on something that will harm them.
I've been thinking about doing something like this, and its great to see someone pit out some helpful ideas. Its so encouraging to see someone taking the time to be God's hands at work, and I just wanted to say thank you for doing this, and I hope you are able to continue to be a blessing to those who need your help.
For those who make light of people being homeless its not a joke. People are hurting and life can be hard. They are not always hungry either they need things other than food too so hand them a dollar or some change. Give from your heart and let God worry about what they do with it.
I am so grateful y'all showed me this! It just goes to show ya that even people on a super tight budget can do this at least once a month to help the homeless. Really great idea! God bless y'all! :D
A great idea, and video, thanks for the upload, fairly recently I tohught of something like this I have not been able to get everything needed, but I made a list, that's very similair to this, and hopefully, I will be able to do something like this...
This is awesome. Came here after reading the article from the website. Well done to you! We are going to try to do this for our homeless project Soup Dragons in Cape Town, South Africa. Thank you for the great video
This is the most beautiful thing I've seen. Thank you both for sharing this with the world. Do you work in conjunction with any homeless shelters? Or perhaps the city council, or mcdonalds etc will help fund your acts of kindness? Good promotion for them Bless you both. Bravo!
larkinvid So Benny Hinn is getting "blessed" with a 2.5 million dollar jet and these homeless guys get a $20 "blessing"? I guess they must be praying to the wrong God.
Who said anything about Benn Hinn, or similar hucksters? If you had ever been homeless (and I have) you'd know how much difference it makes when someone (who owes you nothing) shows you a little compassion and caring.
Good to see others on the same path. Been doing this for a few years around Christmas. Wanna do it for every holiday. Collecting cheap items throughout the year is working well for me.
That's an excellent idea. We usually give money but often wonder what it gets spent on. Drugs, alcohol , cigarettes? Thanks for taking the time to share this.
Hi William. These days the first need a homeless person has for money is to keep paying for their celphone. Keeping their celphone going is the most critical thing for being able to find help and resources, job hunting, apartment hunting etc. And what Jim writes here is spot on
That's great! My parents do the same thing in Iowa/Nebraska. They put backpacks together with food, hats & gloves, and supplies. Each back cost $20 as well. Its great seeing people help the homeless.
I am so happy to see this video. I know it was uploaded 7 years ago but it still circulating which is great. I do the same, but concentrate on homeless children and the elderly. I am able to purchase nice heavy canvas backpacks online at bagsinbulk for 3 dollars each. You both are wonderful souls, God Bless!!!
Instead of a Bible, someone could make a small pamphlet or binder with information on how to get to decent shelters or YMCA's in the city, how to save up to buy thrift clothes that will look good for an interview for a basic job, how to apply to school, how to locate the nearest Veterans Affairs/Hospital/Clinic, etc. It could even be picture based for the percentage of the homeless that are illiterate. Empowering them with useful information and a plan would bring them more hope than a book of prayers that weren't answered, in my opinion. Great idea to help them though. Keep up the good work.
THIS IS AMAZING. I think this is a much better idea than all the other volunteering and donating I do and have done. This goes directly to them and is long term. Smart. I am doing this.
Good ideas. Good heart. I remember learning years ago at a shelter in London that one of the most important things is giving the homeless a choice in what they receive. Instead of merely giving someone a blanket, ask them if they wanted the red blanket or the blue blanket. By giving them that small choice they had some control, and those who had control were more likely to then come to shelters where they could then work on more permanent changes.
So many keyboard warriors. Saddens me to think that a good deed is frowned upon simply because of some book, or an image used, or the quality of the video. Grow up guys, these people are doing a beautiful thing, and it's should be an inspiration, not a debating point.
***** You also don't seem to "giv" a "stuf" about education, both in the humanitarian and grammatical sense of the matter. Come talk to me when you've developed a brain cell or two.
i was homeless once and a marine gave me a tin of usmc issued camping supplies. it was great, such a good guy. someone also gave me a pack of "hot hands" those were very much appreciated. i'm now renting a room and i'll be buying my first car in 3 years next week with my own apartment soon after. everyone that helped me along the way still means everything to me. not only for the food, or other things, but to know that they cared enough to talk to me even when i was mixed up and believed me when i said i was trying to get it together. a lot of people didn't, but those that did made a world of difference.
What a great idea. I live in Tacoma also and almost everyday I see someone homeless at the Union Ave intersection at Hwy 16. You have inspired me to do this also instead of handing them money this is a great way to help someone in need.
Kudos to you both for doing something good for someone simply because they need it, regardless of why. Thanks for posting this. I am seriously considering doing something similar. God bless you both!
This is such a brilliant inspiring idea, you are both amazing people to be so thoughtful and just by sharing your method of help many more homeless people will benefit . Thank you for your inspiration and keep up the good work
I called 911 for a homeless person sleeping on the street in below zero temperatures. I was walking and freezing, I could only imagine what they were going through.
Jane Smith (I knew someone like you would say something like this) The person was bundled up with a cardboard box unresponsive. When I walked by and said how you doing?
Thank you so much for sharing what you've been doing. Spreading the word can inspire other people to do the same thing and then the good deeds multiply. You've inspired me. The last two days I've put together 3 care kits exactly like yours. I appreciated the comments here suggesting feminine products and dog food. All the best to you.
Take out the wet wipes, add hand sanitizer instead. It is infinitely useful. Also think about adding neosporin. Godbless both of you, you are good people.
Hand sanitizer has ethylene in it. Which if you need to start a fire in the middle of a rain storm and save your life, you can. Hand sanitizer and band-aids can save you from staph too.
The wet wipes serve a purpose beyond simple hand cleaning. If you've ever spent a winter without ready access to warm water and a climate controlled building, you'll note that bathing can be dangerous. The wet wipes can allow for a limited form of personal hygiene for the times when the temperature outside is too low to allow for bathing. That said, you may want to consider adding a box of matches or a lighter. Additionally, a flashlight from the dollar store might be nice to put in as well. Though on the streets, where many everyday items are so rare and precious, the flashlight might make the bearer a target.
And you don't know the purpose of hand sanitizer beyond simple hand cleaning. Give me a small bottle of hand sanitizer and I can clean a wound and cook dinner all in one go. With the mylar blanket and a fire I could stay warm for days in a storm. That's why hand sanitizer instead of wet wipes.
Trust me when I say this, the hand sanitizer is all fine and dandy until you go to do some personal hygiene. The genitalia specifically. That's why the wet wipes stay. And to say that I don't the purpose of the hand sanitizer would be false, and rather presumptuous. I've actually had ample opportunity to put it through it's various uses, including as an accelerant. The hand sanitizer is good for everything you've mentioned, save personal hygiene on the delicate bits.
What they're doing here is a good first step. But the best quote I've ever heard is.."Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish and he'll eat for the rest of his life." On that note, I would like to suggest for our government to take a small portion of the money they get from us to start a program in all major cities to educate the homeless in new job skills that actually have openings. Education should be the freeist thing in this world. Most homeless people are in that situation because they have very few skill sets for employment. The second point to this are the number of abandoned buildings in the larger cities that could be easily renovated into apartments to give them a residence to help them get back on their feet. once they have been in a job for at least 6 months then they can find an inexpensive local home. Nothing big, maybe something renovated by "Habitat for Humanity" Once they have their legs back under them they just might continue their education adding even more skill sets so that becoming homeless will never again happen to them.
Laura LC I agree 100% with both of you Larura LC and Master Collingwood. We can help teach the homeless get back on there feet. The government makes more then enough to help put such a program together.
These are all nice ideas, but why use government to get them done? Government is force, not reason. For every new government program it means more taxes (forced at the point of a gun) or more debt (future taxes). What these people are doing is great, because they're doing it voluntarily. It would be immoral to come to your house and steal 20 bucks to put one of these together for a homeless person as an individual, thus it must be immoral to do it as a collective. Lets just do that idea, but leave government out of it :)
Well, lets see.. 1. I don't personally have enough money on hand to start a trade school to train the homeless.....but yet our Government has Billions to spend on wars. 2. Public Education is already in the budget. 3. What I'm suggesting is take money from things like war campaigns and put it to better use. If you diverted 10% of the funds used to finance war efforts, you would have more than enough to do everything I've suggested without raising taxes 1 cent. The Government was instituted by the people to help take care of the larger matters that were too large for smaller groups. This classifies as one of those situations.
Wow, what a great idea, and a great video! God Bless you folks! This was inspirational, and I plan to start doing this with my young ones as a family project sometime soon!

how wonderful that there are people like you in the world. I'd like to mention the Gubbio Project in San Francisco. This gives the homeless one of the most precious gifts - sleep! The Franciscan church opens its doors at 6:00 AM and allows the homeless to sleep in its pews all day, even during services. Blankets and pillows provided.
Good idea! Thank you that you did this vid..
Finally somebody sees reality! You're right, ANYBODY can become homeless! Lose your job and see how fast everything falls apart!
Pamela M You're correct. Many things in life can render us all without a place to sleep at any given time. Personally. I am a firm beleiver that if I have more than my share of anything, I give to someone who has less. To make the world a better place, it begins with each person caring about someone other than themselves.
It's not everyday you come across a video displaying the goodness in people helping those less fortunate than you or me. God bless you.
God bless you guys. There's a special place in heaven for people like you.
People that make themselves feel better by hurting others? That's what is going on here but you are too blinded by bleeding heart conditioning to recognize it.
@@tingtongmahk2164 hurting others? ok
God bless you and your family. Glad to hear you all are doing ok.
Alan Chambers agreed. I’m wondering what makes a person so sick as to see a video that is helping people and make them tap the thumbs down. God willing, natural selection will play it’s course and they can live in Hell with their “God”
❤
Thank you so much for all you do!! I myself have been on both sides of this coin...sleeping under bushes outside of churches, to giving the guy outside the gas station asking for change the other $10 change from the 20 I just broke. I can't express enough how we need more of this in the world. Peace love and light!
Very kind of you to do this. It might also be a good idea to include names, addresses and telephones numbers of organizations that offer support to the homeless and help getting back on their feet. I'm sure many wouldn't think twice about seeking out help from one but if someone shows their kindness in this way they might actually consider it.
Amazing idea!
I love this ...these are good people and I love this way of helping the homeless get things they need and there is no worry of them spending what you give them on something that will harm them.
This is an incredible idea! A great way to bless someone :) Thanks for sharing!
God Bless Your Family. It is great to see people still care for others.
It would be great if you put a list of the items in the video description. It would make a handy reference.
Bravo!
Seems pretty foolproof. A true homeless person would take donations like these in a heartbeat.
This is beautiful, I love it and yes now I will do the same. What a wonderful idea. God bless the both of you.
Cause He sure ain't blessing those homeless people.
Apparently He is, through people like this.
larkinvid So Benny Hinn is getting "blessed" with a 2.5 million dollar jet and these homeless guys get a $20 "blessing"? I guess they must be praying to the wrong God.
Who said anything about Benn Hinn, or similar hucksters? If you had ever been homeless (and I have) you'd know how much difference it makes when someone (who owes you nothing) shows you a little compassion and caring.
No these people are just awesome and acting on their own.
And what Jim writes here is spot on
You two are a blessing, keep up the good work. God Bless.
what a wonderful thing to do, God bless your hearts
Thank you for sharing both with us and the homeless. This is a great idea and way to help out! Great job!!!
This is actually a wonderful idea. I believe everyone can give at least $20. I'm going to give this a try.
This is such a wonderful idea. Bless you both. I am going to incorporate this into my charitable giving. PAY IT FORWARD.
You two are wonderful people.
A few caring people doing this in every city would go a long way towards bringing a little comfort to those who need it. TEAM BACKPACK ARMY!
Great job you should win a award for being so nice to the homeless one day you will get payed back keep going :D
That's great! My parents do the same thing in Iowa/Nebraska. They put backpacks together with food, hats & gloves, and supplies. Each back cost $20 as well. Its great seeing people help the homeless.
God bless you guys, this is such a big help.
Wow, it's so wonderful of you to try to help. Keep up your important work!
You should put in a trash bag and a rain poncho. Trash bag to keep your backpack in when it rains and the poncho to keep them dry.
THIS IS AMAZING. I think this is a much better idea than all the other volunteering and donating I do and have done. This goes directly to them and is long term. Smart. I am doing this.
just remember luck is hard to come by sometimes. love thy neighor
Good ideas.
I like that Idea, I have done something like that before. :) I have also given out dog food since it seem that a lot of homeless have dogs. :)
So many keyboard warriors. Saddens me to think that a good deed is frowned upon simply because of some book, or an image used, or the quality of the video. Grow up guys, these people are doing a beautiful thing, and it's should be an inspiration, not a debating point.
lol dont giv stuf to homless peopel it incorages them to be homless!! #truthbomb911atlanteanrp2012nibiru666reptilianalexjonessgunsbampangow
***** You also don't seem to "giv" a "stuf" about education, both in the humanitarian and grammatical sense of the matter. Come talk to me when you've developed a brain cell or two.
***** Chill out DarthFogot he's making an (actually pretty funny) sarcastic comment.
www.com.au This man gets it :P
***** Ok, so it looks like it is I who needs an education. I sincerely apologise, and humbly ask forgiveness for my error.
hey man, just wanted to say thank you for what you and your wife do, youre both very kind and thoughtful, youve inspired me to do the same in my area
What a lovely idea! I'm going to try this.
i was homeless once and a marine gave me a tin of usmc issued camping supplies. it was great, such a good guy. someone also gave me a pack of "hot hands" those were very much appreciated.
i'm now renting a room and i'll be buying my first car in 3 years next week with my own apartment soon after. everyone that helped me along the way still means everything to me. not only for the food, or other things, but to know that they cared enough to talk to me even when i was mixed up and believed me when i said i was trying to get it together. a lot of people didn't, but those that did made a world of difference.
What a WONDERFUL idea! :-) Beautiful!!!
Thank you for helping your fellow man, your just rewards will be given, god bless you!
don't forget pads and tampon. :)
oh and dog food :) from a previous homeless person… (just trying to help with ideas of what should go in…. not many bags i got had those things.)
This is great instead of handing five dollars I will get into this 20 dollars kit.
Thanks for this wonderful idea. Bless your heart folks.
You should also get flyers from places that are hiring and slip those in the backpacks as well.
What a great idea. I live in Tacoma also and almost everyday I see someone homeless at the Union Ave intersection at Hwy 16. You have inspired me to do this also instead of handing them money this is a great way to help someone in need.
Beautiful. Thank you!
Kudos to you both for doing something good for someone simply because they need it, regardless of why. Thanks for posting this. I am seriously considering doing something similar. God bless you both!
Great idea. You should put the list of items in the description please.
^^^YES. This, please.
You cann see it on screen... pause it..
Cubejam,
I don't know if you noticed but it is kinda hard to read since the picture is so small.
God bless you people!
I Praise God for the two of you being a blessing to others:) May God continue to bless you ;)
Good idea. God Bless.
That's- nice? I guess they would prob appreciate it. Next time, maybe ask them first?
Jane Smith (I knew someone like you would say something like this) The person was bundled up with a cardboard box unresponsive. When I walked by and said how you doing?
Thank you so much for sharing what you've been doing. Spreading the word can inspire other people to do the same thing and then the good deeds multiply. You've inspired me. The last two days I've put together 3 care kits exactly like yours. I appreciated the comments here suggesting feminine products and dog food. All the best to you.
This inspires me to do some good and give back to the community
too bad you wont.
God bless you guys and thank God for inspiring you with such amazing action which motivates anyone to do the same things you are doing.
Take out the wet wipes, add hand sanitizer instead. It is infinitely useful. Also think about adding neosporin. Godbless both of you, you are good people.
Wet wipes could dry out too, so good call on that!
This is a video that gives hope to the human race. It's nice to see these rare acts of kindness
Nothing could actually be done unless a gathering of voices begin to speak up in communities. I would love to see that happen though.
Laura LC
I agree 100% with both of you Larura LC and Master Collingwood.
MasterCollingwood The government was put together to keep the states united. The State is supposed to do those "too large for smaller groups" things.
this is awesome, i always give at least a dollar to the homeless when i see them. But this is a whole new level of giving.
Faith in humanity restored
Wow, what a great idea, and a great video! God Bless you folks! This was inspirational, and I plan to start doing this with my young ones as a family project sometime soon!
