Dark Cloud Shipwreck OST Beta Music, Lost Media finally preserved!
This was never heard by the Dark Cloud Community and were lost media, today I have for you an unheard alternate version of the much beloved Shipwreck theme which has added drums, snare, a stronger baseline and features an underwater, drain like sound.

Would have been cool for this to have been a dynamic background track, where this version would play around enemies and the other when just walking around.

I remember we got that working in Dark Cloud Enhanced, using these alternate music tracks when entering each dungeons backfloors respectively but I'm not sure if it was included in the finished release of the mod @@wishdere 🤔

@@Knux5577 We were actually talking about implementing the beta dungeon themes as backfloor exclusive songs for DC Enhanced I think we even had it running at one point but it caused issues

Gives me Final Fantasy 13-2 Vibes with the variations of the area music changing while encountering an enemy before battle I wonder if they initially had that idea.

I initially thought the same thing, perhaps this was going to used as dynamic music but we have our answer, in a 2002 interview with Japanese publication Dengeki Online Composer Tomohito Nishihura and Dark Cloud series creator Akihiro Hino discussed the creative process when creating music. Nishihura noted that Hino would ask him to try and create three versions of a song and they would pick the one that best fits. 👀

Listen for about 25 minutes lol. I love this version of it more, but I'm glad we got the only piano version for the game. It feels more isolated and lonely compared to this version.
It could work well for the final floor before the boss or the back floor area.
At first I didn't notice the choir or bass guitar, the song is mixed really well.

I'm digging this version. I will admit Shipwreck was my least favourite dungeon to play, partly because of the music. But it was the one I ended up playing the most, because the back floor was easy to get to! I think it would've been slightly more tolerable with this version of the music.

Interesting, this gives a different vibe that kinda works but I find the added instruments to be too repetitive and "basic" in their notes compared to what we are used to with the rest of the soundtrack

It's really interesting hearing the differences between the finished version and the beta, this constant drum beat and drain like bubbling sound in the background give this track so much more ambient life! 🎶🤔

Nice one. I listened to this whilst doing some food shopping. Makes what is a painful (literally cos I'm female and needed to buy some painkillers), lone experience slightly more energetic with that extra drum beat in the background.

@@DarkCloudCompendium I like the original and the alternate got some tight bass but this version goes hard! The original sounds like a sad tune Thelonious Monk would play but I mean that in a good way lol

@@DarkCloudCompendium Honestly I'd love if it if it brought back all the most memorable characters from the first two games. I'm sure they'd be great with the advancements in graphic design plus gotta have Tomohito Nishiuara compose it cuz that's really the icing on the cake. The original Online Georama idea they had too would be a super cool bonus because no game has ever really done that to my knowledge

That's great! This honestly puts me right back in the mood to replay DC1 and 2! (Kinda regreting deciding to play the FFXIII trilogy instead of DC1~Rogue Galaxy this year >_>)

I've heard of Lost Oddysey but never got to play it.
I'm playing the original FFXIII and it's a lot more enjoyable than over 10 years ago at least! It helps that I got better in RPGs in general but still think I should've went with Dark Cloud plan. XD
Can you believe that I got Rogue Galaxy with 50% on the psn by pure luck?? Didn't know it was on sale and I had around 7.52$(the left over from when I got Wild Arms 3) and I think RG was 7.49$. Instantly bought it XD
Definitely like this theme better without the drums. The drums just don't fit the mood of the dungeon.

Good question, the soundtrack for DC is MIDI format however we have no real way to extract each Instrument sample 🤔
