Labour MP Glenda Jackson criticises Margaret Thatcher's policies during a special debate in the Commons in tribute to the former prime minister who died on Monday. Jackson, MP for Hampstead and Kilburn, says that under Thatcher greed and selfishness were seen as virtues.
I think I’ll arrange for this to be played at my funeral. One of Glenda’s greatest performances.
...as ridiculous, pompous and embarrassing as it may have been.
Well Thatcher wouldn't have wanted to create an aspirational society because she seemed to hate the whole concept of society. In fact she created aspirational individuals without any care or compassion for anyone else.
Precisely Glenda. Thank you for exposing the false greatness.
Go, Glenda! Keep it real and raw!
You can always count on Glenda to tell the truth.
Would love to have seen her take on Theresa May
Ha, May would've been a quivering wreck 😁
Glenda Jackson vs Margaret Thatcher. A fantasy parlimentary fight to the finish.
Thatcher and the people she represented did not bite from that sandwich. It was the working class men and women who ate that sandwich.
compaints from lifes failures = i love it
“We knew the price of everything but the value of nothing”
She may be a "has-been” but what a has-been.
So your point is that, because she's old she has no right to have her say, or nothing useful to say. I wonder what useful comments some of the young things would be able to contribute.
Thank you Glenda, you've stuck to your principles. Good for you. Nil nisi bonum is not an absolute. It's far more important to tell it the way you saw and see it than to be seemly. We still have some notion of free speech, in Parliament above all!
Britain was going downhill fast and Thatcher saved it. Queen Elizabeth the first would have been on Thatcher's side.
Oh Glenda I love you. You just keep talking through the boos, unfazed. Most actors would crumble under a hostile audience.
]
Not really. The audition room is soul destroying and all actors start in small plays that sell half or less their seats. The ones that have meltdowns over a phone have an ego problem.
I love this woman!
Thank you for this of course so too!
The dead woman whose selfish actions in life were and are indefensible
Glenda told the truth
Great that someone will tell the truth about the most destructive Prime Minister in recent times
Nope
They were more innocent then the British soldiers of their time for the simple fact that those Argentinians soldiers were conscripts forced by the state to enlist. I can sympathize with that because I was also forced to comply with my National Service, just lucky to not be sent to war. The two generations before mine couldn't say the same, though. Agree that the Argentinian dictatorship had no right to invade the Falklands, showing a catastrophic error in their reading of UK's likely reaction
Well said.
she is brave because she is in one of the most marginal constituencies in the country
Vile ghastly woman and a total failure as an MP who showed precious little care and compassion for her own constituents.
Thatcher was definitely that
@@paulcritchley464 and some.
That’s how it was at my school in the eighties. Weaker kids or poor kids weren’t allowed to be in the same classes as the middle class kids. My drama teacher actually said, “I want to teach attractive students”. And this was the Reagan years, Thatchers American counterpart. She’s exactly right.
Quite right
good on you glenda
Who is this clown.
Weak weak weak
You are damned if you do and damned if you dont! Thankfully she actioned the difficult choices but is now damned by those who were left wanting. Life is just a Shit sandwich and we all have to take a bite, but its up to oneself how big a bite we take. RIP!
I note posts from who is crazy Glenda to Thatcher was evil belongs in Hell but that's all a little drastic. Glenda Jackson is extremely famous most on earth know her. Like Reagan, she started out as an actor & was the first to play the Queen Elizabeth 1st best performance in BBC mini series early 70s called Elizabeth R, many many films before & after before going into politics & is more of labor party or in the US would be Democrat. Thatcher was the UK version of Conservative & I assure everyone here there needs to be both or a nation ends in a one party system that becomes a dictatorship so there are checks & balances & both sides bring good things to balance things while both sides bring negative that gets balanced later by the other side.
Think of a great nation as a plane. People are on-board jumbo Jet that must always fly never land & it takes how many wings to fly it? TWO. The plane will tilt to the right then to the left but always come out center so long as you have both wings so over time it works out best it could which is better than trying to fly with one wing or plane crashes into a dictatorship & no one on-board is happy & all really are hurt then! It's rather silly to argue about politics because each nation of somewhat Democracy needs two main parties. In the Social Federal Republic non Democracy US; for years it has been trying to move towards a Social Democracy but it means a bumpy flight & until it becomes a Democracy, there will be an Electoral College electing presidents rather than the citizens or pop vote so polls not only lie since people lie but mean zero. Obama was behind in polls both elections then won in both EC and pop landslides. He won more pop votes than any President in history while back when the EC would allow a person to gain all States, Reagan won that big missing only MN & VT then second time I think he got MN but still lost VT so was landslide unlike what can happen today in EC.
EC has members under age 18 casting votes! Not even old enough to vote and then older people so they are who make it or break it in elections not posters on here per US. Canada is a Social Democracy meaning pop votes win and it is over from there. They don't send Israel 2 trillion a year tax money or Saudi same to support their social programs like the US does. Citizens in US complain about own social programs when the constitution says; the government shall protect, defend & provide FOR THE BASIC WELFARE of the People"! UK has similar terminology but only the US makes it clear separation of Church and State which it is not actually following through on.
Yes Glenda!
I love this woman also.....Glenda Jackson tells it how it is.....pity Joe Bloggs cant understand her......."The price of everything.....the value of nothing"....brilliant quote........ so what if she smokes too much and aged a bit.....she is a treasure
Quotation taken from Oscar Wilde on arriving in the United States.
@@paulmc9203 Actually, it's taken from The Picture of Dorian Grey
Great speech.
I guess Glenda Jackson must have been abroad making a film during the winter of discontent in the UK.
Sit down lol
cheap , cheap cheap
Funny that coz even at her best she only obtained 32% of the electoral vote, but for you that constitutes the 'whole of the country', check the math.
Yenta go get a shrink!
1=!....lol and it will come out unless the grey faceless men in bowler hats shred it but the internet is a big place.
She ought to have stuck to her acting.
I'm with Genda and then some - see my epitaph poems for Thatcher and Chavez (just search on patrick newton daley). I think the Labour leadership's position is contemptible.
Here Here
Truth is if she could run again now i bet she would win in a landslide , and rightly so
Margeret Thatcher was a legend shut up! i would like you see you try to be prime minister!
i don't see how anyone who can criticise Thatcher, because she supported the people who worked hard and if strikes are anyones problem. 1 they were before maggy and 2 they chose to be on them strikes rather than working.
MT was the greatest, who is this crazy woman Glenda Jackson?
The most celebrated actor in the English language
@@jeffreysuggs2799 No, she isn't.
