- I went to my very first Cactus and Succulent show and sale and it was an awesome experience! I saw actual specimens that I only used to see in pictures. I learned from some exhibitors and vendors. Best of all, I got to shop and bring home awesome new cacti, some belonging to a genus that I have no experience taking care of.

I don't usually like cactus shows but this one is an exception. As usual, Ana brings background and information about the plants, the growers and how to get into the show. I can tell Ana is a teacher, we are all in class when she is on UA-cam, Ha Ha.

Great job, Ana! I have never been to a big show like this, but you have brought the feeling of being there . I believe Cactus Quest did the show last year, so I guess that I need to save my money for a trip (if I can get in). Thank you for your effort and sharing.

It was so exciting to see the mature plants displayed so beautifully. I can see the potential of my cacti, that are still babies compared to the ones in the show. Lol! I hope you can attend one, too. A memorable experience for us that are into the hobby.

I just started seriously collecting last year so seeing the displays in all the beautiful pots! - I need to find some of those beautiful pots for my plants!!! That must be a big advantage of living in the West all that artistry!!!

Oh wow! I remember this place from Hunter’s video and I had the same reaction. I got so excited seeing those amazing plants that my heart was beating so fast! Took me a while to fall asleep. Daz and I watched it after my work ended and I end my work really late. 😆 This was an awesome tour! Drooled over both plants and pots! 😱 Excited to see your haul! Curious to know the prices too. 🥰
Thank you! Yep, some of the pots were as interesting as the plants. I don’t know if I would go to that level, though. Investing in pots is another story. 😉 But I definitely enjoyed my first show. Wish you could attend one too in your countries.

Oh Ana!!! Thank you so much!! Brings back memories!! The LA co. Arboretum was always a favorite. And my first and only cactus & succulent show was this one in April of 1984. As I mentioned before, I still have a few of them. I have to tip my hat to Mr Salcedo! Fantastic Euphorbias!!!! And cactus!! This guy knows his plants!!! And I have to fully agree with the other gentleman about " staging" I am all about that with the nice pots, rocks, arrow heads, cholla skeletons! Definitely helps bring out a nice plant. I would have spent a couple of hundred easy from the vendors!!! And still want more!!! Thanks so very much!!! I love that place!!! Like I said before, I used to live down the street" Avenue " actually carried them home on my bicycle!!! Awesome show , wish I could have reached through and said " ok, that one & that one & ....... hahaha!!! Yes went that April, and a month later I brought all my plants with me to the Ozarks!!! Oh, how lucky you were when you lived in that area! The LA arboretum is a great big place. I wasn’t able to explore the whole place as I had limited time. It also rained. Wow, we attended our first show in the same place. I didn’t realize they were doing the shows since the 80’s! Your Euphorbias can win awards in a show, Clyde. I see yours in your video and I must say, you have some that can easily win medals! 😃

Haha. I’m not a “show” kind of collector. My cacti are all beat up and hard grown under the desert weather. Not to mention, those pots are investments, too. 😁 But thanks for your vote of confidence. You have some specimens that you can enter, too!

Those Sulcorebutia rauschii really caught my eye!
Back in the 1980s you could purchase a plant with pups in a 3" pot for $2.45. I tried keeping them as windowsill plants but gave up after three failed attempts. I just couldn't find the right combination of soil, sunlight & watering but I was a newbie back then & that happens. I'd like to give them another try but those prices! Maybe growing them from seed is the better option - lol.
Watching this video was very enjoyable, seeing some of the cacti brought back a lot of memories from my cactus growing days in the 1980s. I saw examples of a lot of plants I used to have.
This was a great post - I'm going to watch the next video to see what you brought home.

I went on a Saturday. It was especially nice being back after not attending the previous year. I got a few cacti and I can’t wait to see it in bloom. You should plan on coming back in August when they have the Inter city sale. Much bigger with a lot more vendors 😊
Oh, we went the same day! Maybe we bumped on each other. Lol. The inter-city would be a dream. It just so happened that my husband had work near LA so I was able to tag along and watch the San Gabriel show. Hope I can attend the inter-city next year.
I have about 20 different types of cacti and I thought I had a lot but I bet I don't have any other ones I was looking at today they are so awesome
For fertilizer A guy called Elton Roberts uses 20-20-20 and ammonium sulfate. He says its the best for him
I couldn't begin to remember all latin (?) Names ..am a novice in West Texas ....I buy or aguire just anything comes my way ...finally got my project flower bed tilled starting to plant ...trying to stay in cool " family ...but love Daylillies.... so many weeds pulled ( I don't like pesticides & West Texas a booger- bear on stickers goat heads thorns u name .it" ...cactus 🌵 does do wonderfully here BUT careful of freezer weather quick! .. Got my plant fr Wal Mart the drop in temp they looked so beautiful. ...keep trying ....like succulents as well had to have prickly pear2/3 rds removed 3 mos ago taking over ...now my Spanish Broom " hopefully will do better ....see I like a variety....but enjoying this v very much 🦋🌵💚💚🇨🇱 beautiful California...

Here in France, I bought 3 little cacti for less than 5€
The prices were “normal” according to the sizes of the plants sold. What’s nice about it is that there were many vendors that you can shop around for better prices. I had a cactus that I placed back cause I found a cheaper one being sold by another vendor in the next table. 😉
