And I apologize! I implied you guys would get to see what was broke! And you will not:/ the fix ended up being several things and dad had already left with a couple parts! Failure to include them would make the fix not make a lot of sense. And it may be a process that’s kind of difficult for us to orchestrate footage on. I mentioned a bearing. It wasn’t that easy.

Let me say, I just discovered your channel yesterday. At the beginning of the pandemic, I discovered different sawmills on UA-cam. I am a Vietnam Vet and there is something about the sound of a saw running that helps me sleep. I have PTSD and nasty nightmares. As a kid growing up, I would go to sleep at night listening to my dad work in his shop running saws, planers and the like. Ian, your channel is a God send for me. I grew up in the country of NC and there was a sawmill not far from where I lived. My dad would go and buy drops and mis-sizes and make the most beautiful cabinets. He made them for everyone including some of the more elite that lived in the area.
I see you handle the saw blade with ease and yet I could also see you respect it as well. I wish you would do a maintenance film. I can’t believe I would be the only one interested. I have lots of questions and for the fear of making this far too long, I will stop here. I would love too here back from you. I know you are busy and answering takes time. How do you turn a whole log into 2 x 4’s?

You can comment as long of a comment as you like sir! God bless you❤️ Making these videos and adding them into my work, is kind of difficult, but reading a comment like this makes it worth it:) I will work up to more maintenance videos here soon! Those are actually more difficult for me to orchestrate. However, everyone like you who wants to see it, deserves it. As I get more comfortable making these videos, I plan on showing you guys more of that end!
And a couple of months ago I uploaded a 2x4 video! Did you get to check it out?

@@Helmsburgsawmill I am working in that direction. See, I load my queue at night. Like I stated, the noise of the mill helps me sleep and last night I slept like a baby. Today, I am going back over what I loaded up to actually view and like the video. You have an excellent speaking voice and I do enjoy the comments as you’re working. I would enjoy seeing you working the controls a bit more. Yes, I understand how hard making these videos are. I worked on some during the pandemic. It took some work to get them right.
Ian, for someone with PTSD from service, to find something which helps sleep, almost stop the nightmares is so difficult. I’m close to 75 and I am somewhat handicap and live alone. Had I realized 40 years ago about a sawmill easing my distress at night I would have had far more nights of sleep. Your channel so far is the best in the sound department. As I said, this is a real God send for me. I also promise not to ask so many questions. I did see the cable change. Are there any other aspects of work in your sawmill. I would love to see some of that as well. I know, I need to check all your postings.
Thank you for kind and quick response. The internet has linked me with the outside world. I still drive, I live in VA at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains about 35 miles from what is known as “Walton’s Mountain”. I look out my kitchen window to view the mountains.

You’re free to ask as many questions as you’d like sir! And yes there’s a lot😬 We also log as well, not as frequent now, but I have a cutting video from just a few weeks ago. I have greasing videos to make, sharpening, pin alignment, cleaning, equipment maintenance such as loaders and skidders. We also have a large inventory that I haven’t really gotten the chance to do a good video on. We’ve also been responsible for notching and setting and proving the lumber for over 300 log cabins in the area. My own is the last one we’ve done. I have a little of it on here, and plan on showing more as it closes in on completion! As the channel grows I will provide longer length videos for men like yourself!

@@Helmsburgsawmill As I stated, I load of my queue about 10 or so for the night. As I stated, I suffer with PTSD from my time in Vietnam and your sawing sounds so much like my dad’s shop. It is a very different sound from the bandsaw, sawmills.
The 2x4 video you kept those 2 guys moving as the lumber and scraps came down. I have 2 questions: First, do you have a video of making the veneer and second, why do you not stack the logs to be cut so they don’t lie on the ground? Third, how long after a log is harvested before you process that log?
Once again, your channel has helped me sleep for 2 nights in a row. I was able to stop the meds for my PTSD because of discovering sawmills. Of the mills I have viewed, your mill rates 10 stars, hands down.

So we don’t cut the veneer! A veneer buyer comes in and buyes what they want, and then the stave buyer. With white oak we’re usually just left with tie logs. And logs that we lay out, are logs that need measured. The logs we received all came in at once, it was 33 loads in 3 days. It was all we could do to just pile them up haha. So we lay out and measure as we process and get time.
Here soon, know that I plan on doing much longer videos. I would love to do a 2 hr upload of just sawing!

Good video of the blade, so I see the top blade is directly above the main blade, those teeth must be incredibly close

Good video of the blade removal process 👍 Hope the bearing replacement goes well, it doesn't matter what a bearing is going on- it can always be a pain to replace

    Very cool video. Thanks

Honestly I’ve never weighed it! I would guess 150lbs. But it’s the most awkward 150lb imaginable

Thanks for the view removing the blade. Must be a pain to produce the video and do your work. But it is fascinating. OBTW- do you use locks on the breaker to ensure it does not inadvertently get turned on? Any place I worked at, not locking out a breaker for equipment I was working on was a dismissible offence.

Whats the reason or reasons for debarking? I see other mills not debark at all.

The bark is really bad about holding dirt, rocks, gravel, sand, and other stuff, within it. The De-barker saves me a ton of filing time
