He even takes the time to make a good Dougie so that they won't be left alone after he goes on his mission. He clearly doesn't want to simply leave them alone, so he takes the time to ensure they won't be. But this time the Dougie will be created from him, the noble Dale Cooper, as opposed to the villainous Mr C. Hopefully they are going to find their lives improved with this new Dougie looking out for them as Cooper would.
It’s revealed with Diane’s return in episode 17 that people retain the memories of their tulpa’s, while cooper isn’t Dougie, he has all of his memories. I believe that’s why he was so happy to see sonny Jim in episode 2(?)
The scene where "Dougie" goes back to Janey-E and Sonny Jim is one of my favorites of the series... dude had a tulpa created in his image because he loved them so much and couldn't abandon them. That was the happiest scene in the series... and for me, one of the most fulfilling scenes. That and the scene where Dale comes out of his coma... "Are you... awake?" "100%." "...FINALLY." We all felt the same way, my friend. I wish my mother and I had gotten the chance to complete this story before she passed... She was battling mortal illness in 2017, so I basically ignored season 3 when it came out. I waited nearly 7 years to view "The Return"... after waiting somewhere between 25 and 27 years waiting for season 3 to even happen... it was something for US... not for ME... alone, ya know? Cathartic about covers it. R.I.P. Momma. Season 3 was BETTER than you (or we) could've hoped for, given the passage of time. I'm sorry you missed it.
There's another meta level to this. Bushnell is named after Lynch's mentor and friend who basically made Lynch's whole art and film career possible. "I will not soon forget your kindness and decency".
Thanks for pointing this out! I went down a UA-cam rabbit hole (in a good way) after you revealed it to me. It was very cool to see the painterly ambitions of a young David Lynch. I'm having a blast in my art class, and I'm wondering if I should pursue it too!
Definitely the best scene of season 3. After Cooper says, "I'm the FBI" that wonderful music enters the stage... At that moment, you can feel that Cooper is back. This scene makes me emotional.
I don't like the fact that Frost/Lynch pulled a fast one. I suppose I should've expected it. In eps. 2, Mike told Cooper that he could not go out (become 100%) until Mr. C came back in. Here in eps. 16, Mr. C still hasn't come back in but Cooper is out. I love that Cooper is back, but the reason is shady.
I can’t imagine what it must’ve felt like watching season 2’s cliffhanger and waiting 25 whole years just to see Coop’s return… I only started watching the show last year and just now finished season 3 a couple days ago… and I don’t think I’ve ever fan-girl’d over something as much as I did watching this scene!
I rarely react when I watch a movie or TV series by myself, no matter how good they are, but when Cooper said "I am the FBI", it genuinely made me smile.
@@domanskikid for me its just his unbridled enthusiasm for life. He takes so much joy in the little things, be it the smell of pine trees or a damn fine cup of coffee. Like honestly, out of any fictional character I would want to date, Cooper would probably be top 3, maybe number 1.
I still think about this moment as a cinema fan. The fact that you can absolutely pay off a 25 year old cliffhanger and NAIL it is amazing filmmaking. 5 years later I'm still stunned how well they pulled this off.
This sequence gave me goosebumps and brought tears of joy. Literally. What a brilliant way to bring Dale Cooper back to the "real world" and the theme music just tops it off 👏
I only started watching Twin Peaks from S01E01 just over a month ago, and I've just finished S03E16 as we speak. How did it take me this long to watch this show. It's phenomenal. I'm so not ready for it to end. I'm taking it one episode a day to draw this out as much as possible.
Goosebumps. Absolutely epic. It was worth being frustrated by “cooper dougie” for so long, to get to this one moment. Epic beyond belief. Thank you once again, David, for your heart and soul in your work, which affects so many of us, with such ease. Season 3 was an incredible cinematic odyssey.
This has to be one of the most beautiful pieces of television I've seen in ages. Thank you David Lynch and all the actors for sending me off to work on a Monday morning feeling hugely optimistic. I literally had tears in my eyes seeing Dale Cooper back on the case. When I feel sad in my life, this will cheer me up.
Welcome back, Coop! :) :) I can hardly believe it's happened. I have to replay this scene continuously. We waited 25 years for this moment. Thank you, Kyle, thank you, David. And the most important: good luck, and good job, Coop! It's time, to make the world better. :)
Cooper, you have been in the Black Lodge for 25 years. The way she was looking at you, you're that night you're going to get your first lay back on earth.
Amazing scene... one of the best i can remember in a long time.. i cheered and yelled with joy, when is saw that Coop is back.. cant wait to see what happens.
I watched this episode for the first time the other day and I cried when I got to this scene. I had started watching Twin Peaks from the beginning a couple of months ago and to finally see Cooper again really moved me. A beautiful moment
I cried so hard after this scene. David Lynch is man with good heart. All his character are living being. I wish him & crew good health so he can bring us this more.
On the night this comment was posted I had just finished watching this very episode for the first time. My friend who is a big Twin Peaks fan showed me TP in February of 2024 and next week from this comment we will be finishing the last two episodes of the return. What an amazing ride. I will not lie when I tell you I was screaming when Coop hit us with that line. All that wonderful Lynch-y nonsense and build up for the BEST pay off EVER. God bless Cherry pie, DAMN fine coffee, and of course, Twin Peaks.
The fact that after all this time, the first thing dale cooper does when he wakes up is make sure that dougie can be remade so that his family can be with him is a huge testament to dale coopers character.
After the 4th season all it has been is fan service for Daenarys fans. They dumbed down the show to appeal more to childish imbeciles who only watch the whow for dragons and amazing CGI. What D&D did to Stannis was an insult to George's vision.
Yea but this required BALLS from the writer and director. Tbh Twin Peaks The Return is so masterfully, ballsy executed that I doubt it will ever be topped.
I hear everyone saying “we just got CooPer bacK and. Is it’s OVER booo” but doesn’t that maKe his return that much sweeter? Just seeing CooPs confident smile come bacK got me all teary - but I’ll admit I ain’t seen the end yet
This scene was comforting. People who were long time fans saw their hero back and the theme that normally is very melancholy is now a theme of triumph. But it still has that twin peaks feel of “this can’t last”
"I am the FBI" + theme music = me, crying like a bitch
same here
You are not alone 😭
Same. What a bunch of f words we are
I love how in this new version of Twin Peaks everything is filmed like a Progressive commercial
I don't even need to watch this to cry like a bitch.
I love how Coop treats this family like it's truly his. He doesn't abandon them just because he's back in control. What a G
He even takes the time to make a good Dougie so that they won't be left alone after he goes on his mission. He clearly doesn't want to simply leave them alone, so he takes the time to ensure they won't be.

It's noble yes but honestly if I woke up in someone else's life and Naomi Watts was my wife I'm gonna live that life to the fullest

That’s awesome
Bushnell Keeler! I don't know how I didn't recognize this before. Nice!
That is heartwarming. It's true. No one ever forgets the people who supported their dreams.
Already in control of the situation 5 seconds after waking up. What a scene.
In control and feeling the urge to go gambling at the casino!
contrasts with the final scene of the final episode then
Yes it was. It brought back season 1 right away.
That’s our boy
Best scene in television history The "I am The FBI" line with the theme in the background throughout. Brilliant stuff.
Jenna Gass yeah, goosebumps watching it.
It’s basically what we all wanted, to be taken back.
season 3 was like the anti-nostalgia season but i think david lynch loves cooper too much not to celebrate him coming back ahaha
0:56 - FBI agents close the car doors perfectly in sync with the music.
Michał Zbrzeźniak Lynch
Ahhhhhhhhhhh
Well spotted.
Good thing Wilson wasn't there, he wouldn't have been in synch at all.
Probably the editor is the one to thank on this one...
Original Twin Peaks iconic line "Damn fine cup of coffee".
New iconic line " I am the FBI".
Bogan87 “Thank Dougie”*
I'll be sure to say HELLOOOOOOOOO!!
Damn good joe
“Gotta light?”

Definitely the best scene of season 3. After Cooper says, "I'm the FBI" that wonderful music enters the stage... At that moment, you can feel that Cooper is back. This scene makes me emotional.
I'm not ready to let go of Twin Peaks again. Can't believe it's almost over and we only *just* got Dale back :(
QuirkyShiny I hear you there. Here's hoping for a Cooper centric season 4.
I love that Cooper is back, but the reason is shady.
u238willy a *bit* of Evil Coop went back; in Richard Horne. He was literally half made of Evil Coop
There's some fear in letting go.
Ok, great...so why did Cooper say '100%...' -- a little bit of Cooper by genetic extension doesn't equal 100% of Good Cooper.
It was the best feeling in the world. I was weeping.
That little smile Janey-E gives towards the end is so, so adorable
LHAA1234 I hope he gets back to Janey-E and Sonny Jim. After 25 years in the Black Lodge, he needs to live happily ever after.
I think the point of having Mike create another seed was to be able to send Dougie back, because Coop knew he wouldn't be seeing them again.
Naomi Watts has been an absolute joy this season on Twin Peaks. My favorite new character.
uncbb89 agreed. She has been great.
So glad someone else took note of that little detail ✌️
I rarely react when I watch a movie or TV series by myself, no matter how good they are, but when Cooper said "I am the FBI", it genuinely made me smile.
The most involuntary smile I’ve ever had on my face.
Beautiful phrasing
I love Janey-E's turned on face. Basically that was the whole audience.
I know there are lot of girls who likes bad boys, but I'm sure there are also those who think this kind of kindness and good heart is sexy too.
I think most people are Coopersexual.
I’d imagine it’s his confidence they find sexy, with the kindness being the icing on the cake.
@@domanskikid for me its just his unbridled enthusiasm for life. He takes so much joy in the little things, be it the smell of pine trees or a damn fine cup of coffee. Like honestly, out of any fictional character I would want to date, Cooper would probably be top 3, maybe number 1.
Thank you, Lynch. Thank you, MacLaclan.
Thank you. :')
Yea, I believe Frost was the one who actually reminded him of the whole 25 year plan, before than Lynch had little interest to continue after FWWM.
BeingBadAtMaths Thank you, Mr. Jackpots

honestly, it's a miracle!!
> I am the Twin Peaks: The Return
literal chills.
it was in this moment that I realized that the real Coop was the friends we made along the way
Its pretty safe to say that this probably be remembered as THE most iconic moment and line of dialogue in the shows history.
This was THE BEST episode of the whole show. Man...and I mean all 3 seasons combined.
Perfect. this will be one of the best scenes aired in television.
How many of us stood up and cheered at this scene. It's like here comes the cavalry!
"I am the FBI"! I love it, welcome back Special Agent Dale Cooper!!
The main theme playing as Dale Cooper is himself again means one positive and one positive thing only; there's always hope!
Hmmm
It's been such a wild ride. I'm not ready for it to end now.
He totally owned that few minutes. Totally Owned! Unbelievable awesome moments
When the theme music kicks in. You know this scene is going to be a classic. Love the I am the FBI line.
I swear to god, I predicted he was about to say that line so we said it toghter. And then I cried like a baby.

This sequence gave me goosebumps and brought tears of joy. Literally. What a brilliant way to bring Dale Cooper back to the "real world" and the theme music just tops it off 👏
Breathtaking moment, cried of joy. Art in its purest.
this scene demonstrates that Cooper is Twin Peaks, and Twin Peaks is Cooper
I watched this about 20 times and everytime I get goosebumps. MOST EPIC EPISODE EVER
Seeing Coop come back to normal was like a warm blanket coming over me. I just wish coop was right at the end of the season. Please 1 more season.
This scene made the whole return worth it. I was mind blown, and tears in my eyes. We love you Coop! Thanks David Lynch!
Cooper did not go anywhere, Dougie IS Cooper, we just did not know it. All those funny mannerisms, that was Cooper at the core.
This theme and Cooper returning. The feels were too much.
I swear i got goosebumps when the Theme kicked in,
The only dislike is from Bob

I shed a tear when the Twin Peaks falling theme started. Great scene, great season.
i don't think anything in film let alone tv has made me grin as much as this part did

Who would have thought that the "Falling" theme would be the most uplifting, fist-pumping music?
Best return ever!

Cooper, you have been in the Black Lodge for 25 years. The way she was looking at you, you're that night you're going to get your first lay back on earth.
