Hey this Paul from Buford Ga. Took my test yesterday and got a 68% missed it by 2. Went back and changed a few answer. Class E killed me. Still watching and studying to go back and retake the exam.
Did you go back and pass yet, I know you're going to pass or already passed by showing that you failed the first time! Thank you for saying where you had a problem...
I took my test today to get Part 107 certified and I got 83% correct, well above the 70% needed to pass the exam. This video helped. I did not miss any question related to Airspace.
I just had to stop in the middle of one of your videos to comment. I’ve been preparing for the part 107 test and have been watching a lot of videos on UA-cam and none of them has made it more clear than what you have done. You’re a great teacher. You made a lot of sense out of this ball of wires also known as a sectional chart. Thank you so very much. I’m going to watch quite a few more.
Trey from Chicago here, just got a 90% on my first try. I owe you a big thank you, especially for your coverage of sectional maps. I feel as though 2/3 of my test was comprised of sectional map questions lol. Thanks again!
Took my exam this morning and passed with an 85%. Thank you so much for making these videos. Once I started scoring in the 80s on my practice tests I was confident that I would pass. Throughly enjoyed my time spent in Mr Mig's Classroom and forever thankful for you taking the time to make these videos!
Thanks for the video. It’s quite helpful. However, I’m finding a lot of videos made by people who know their stuff but maybe don’t remember what it was like to NOT know their stuff. It would be cool if a noob and a pro sat down to make these. As the noob, I would suggest: Class A = Avoid Airliners Class B = Blue line Class C = Cherry line (easy to associate with magenta) Class D = Dashed line Class E = Elderberry, Everyone Class G = Ground (That admittingly falls apart a bit as the Serious airports (A,B) are Solid and the Downsized airports are Dashed (C,D) Class E is a bit confusing as a noob because it's supposed to be for everyone (right? I hope that's right) but it's also marked for class E airports. Then for the heights, use “10 hundred” to represent 1,000 because, yeah, dropping 2 zeros makes no sense. Also more definition on things like “mean” in relation to height. That is pretty confusing early on. I’m sure there’s a reason they don’t just say SL and GL but that’s never really explained anywhere. Probably somewhere but not in any of the videos I’ve watched. Another thing I’ve not seen anyone do is to use a sectional with NO markings then just turn on the layer for obstructions or the layer for airspace radii (plural radius?) or just terrain. That would be incredibly helpful because, yeah, those maps are nuts.
From Illinois, I bought my son and his wife Drones to help them in there Endeavors . She works with Animal Control and he works with landscaping and Arborist . Then I got to following “ You Tube “, your Class. I'm intrigued and love ❤️ this kind of Studies . I've got licenses in other professions and your 1encouraging me to get a Drone License. Great instruction and method .FYI, I was in Dallas/FT.Worth and a Guy from India lost his mother on the Tram Cars. Huge !
Mr. Mig checking in from the Great State of Texas, taking my test on Thursday. Reviewing all your videos to refresh, these are super helpful and much appreciated!
High school teacher is so admirable. I want to teach the FCC Part 107 to license test to HS teachers so they can teach their students. It will be a STEAM stimulus as well as the start to an active career field . Keep on keeping on ! I’m subscribing!🤙🏽
Best video I came across explaining air space for 107 test.👍I was looking for something more current since laws are always being updated and the FAA study guide isn't. I even took notes and didn't fall asleep. Thank you for covering material NOT covered in the handbook and connecting different sections and how they work together, Air space with Sectional Charts and using Alpha , Bravo, Charlie language. That really helps reinforce stuff. That's like buy one get 3 free. Good deal, if you ask me. You are a TT- Talented Teacher not like those who count the days for their Pension to mature. You earned a like and subscribe. I'll continue to view your part 107 videos and see if there's anything else interesting on your channel. By the why I'm in Palm Springs CA, it's a Delta class.
Thanks Bree! I really appreciate your comment. I was a high school teacher for eight years. I just left teaching this summer. I’ll be honest I miss it. Maybe one day I’ll return to academia. You are right about the pension day counters.
My Girl Freind is a Teacher too, 5TH grade. The crap she comes home with. I think you're only looking at the good things. There's a reason you left. Yes you are talented but maybe college level or where ever there is less BS. More teaching than being a social worker.@@MrMigsClassroom
Thank you Mr Mig for your excellent video series. I just passed the Part 107 test and it was hard. it had maybe 10 questions from all the question banks and videos out there. There was about 20 questions chart related and many questions on new regulations not even in FAA study guide like foreigner with overseas drone ID and many other remote ID questions, new fly over people rules and new night flying rules, weight category3 of drones questions etc. Questions on chart were different and some small airports and structures were hard to find. Having all the info you provided helped but FAA needs to make a new guide!! $175 for the test and they dont even give us an updated study guide!!
Special thanks for your classroom style teaching. I passed the 1st time using your videos and the PrepWare App ($5). Your teaching video format 20-30 minute was the most helpful. I never really used the shorts.
You really are a phenomenal teacher! I’m so glad I stumbled across your videos while preparing to take test. I now feel fully confident I can ace this thing with flying colors.
Hi, Mike here... currently in New Orleans, but Panama City Beach is "home". First I have to say, they may not realize it but your students are lucky to have you as a teacher. I've tried studying the sectional charts for years, they are the only thing keeping me from trying for my 107. I don't know why YOUR video "flipped the switch" for me but it did. I've probably watched 3 dozen other videos and just didn't get it... it's pretty when you can teach a 68 year old "old dog" a new trick, and you did! Thank you. And I've sub'ed your channel also
I live in Raleigh and grew up in Wilmington and it is fun hearing you mention various NC airports, and now I know what kind of air spaces they are in! Great videos, thank you for putting this series together.
I’ve had my part 107 in the past but let it expire. Watching these to remember everything I knew is extremely helpful! I like the shorter form videos you make
This is the first video from your series that I have watched and I want to say THANK YOU for the detailed and extremely helpful explanations. I am prepping to take my part 107 exam, and the biggest challenges for me have been the sectional charts! I plan to watch each video you have on this subject BEFORE I take may test. Your explanations are making it MUCH CLEARER for me and I would like to go for One and Done! Keep up the great job!
Passed this afternoon with a 90%. I give full credit to your videos. I’m not sure which one to comment on, cuz I watched a lot of them. This one was SUPER helpful, the weather ones made it all make sense. My test had a lot of random stuff on it, not so much charts and weather, but regardless - I passed, and I’m grateful I found you.
Hey Mr. Miggs, passed today with your videos being my main study material, so keep up the good work. In this video, you did mention making a video on access requests and that whole process. Would be a very useful video. Also, my gf plans on taking exam in the future and will be sure to refer her here.
Hello Mr. Mig. First, I'd like to say thank you for the education. I just passed my 107 with an 88%, and your videos were my primary (and favorite) source of information. I work, and will be flying for a NC government institution. Would it be possible to contact you directly to inquire about certain laws within our state. No problem, if not. I completely understand wanting to maintain privacy, and separation from fans, haha. Thank you either way! Your videos are the best!
I’m from Midland Michigan. Thank you so much for taking the time for this and other videos. Of course this is the one I fear testing for the most. You make it easy to understand
Thanks, great stuff. Probably worth emphasizing that the sectional chart legend has lots of good info on this topic, I always go there to confirm my analysis. Thanks, Tom in Atlanta (home of the world’s busiest airport - and the busiest sectional chart for sure!).
Hey, I just took my exam today and passed with an 87. My studying was almost exclusively your videos and reading the FAA exam guide. I have watched videos off and on in the last month but I crammed on yours for the last two days. You said things other people had never said. And they were on the test. I am grateful for your work. I had a particular question on the exam that I thought you might find interesting, but I wasn’t sure exactly how I should share it with you. Let me know if that’s something that would be if use to you.
Taking my test July 26. I've watched all of your vids, making notes and continuing to watch your vids again. This has been a lifesaver for me. Getting into doing realty videos on the side. I'm a teacher as well. From central Wisconsin. They no longer call it part 107 test. It's called UAG small test. I had to call to make sure I signed up for the correct test. I'm hoping you do the part 2 soon 😂
This is awesome. Thank you. Some feedback. Consider changing your pointer to a big blue or red pointer. Much easier to see when you are pointing stuff out. No pun intended. Part 107 test April 6 for me!!
Great job explaining airspace classes and tips to remember. I've tried to direct a few people to your channel that said they were going to or wanted to get their part 107 cert but who knows if they are for real or just talking.
Greetings from Alabama, love your videos, you're gonna be the teacher that helps me pass the test. If you have a venmo, or a way to donate, let me know. I appreciate what you're doing👏👏
I am posing this question to you also. Pilot Institute Videos are using AGL on class C & D,, example Class C 4,000 AGL Class D 2,500 AGL. Another course taught by a pilot is using AGL for class B,C, and D. on the other hand I have seen a couple others who are not pilots using MSL for classes A through D. I am totally confused on who actually is correct.
Midway through video, you use raleigh as a class-C example. You point out that we can fly outside the 5 mile central controlled airspace while being underneath the upper 1700-4400 controlled class-C airspace. However, aren't there three Class-E extension airspace areas from the surface to 18,000?
At 23 minutes into the video, where you discuss class D airspace, your slide and talk track says Class D air extends up to 2,500 feet MSL. How would this apply if the airfield was itself 2,500 feet MSL? Should that be AGL?
Then it will be higher. Not every D is going to have the same ceiling. That was referring to the usual, but each airport is going to have a different ceiling
A different way to look at it is, the top of the D space will be normally 2500 AGL above the field. The top altitude is labeled on the map, in brackets, in MSL. Looking at examples, they normally round up a hundred or so.
Hello, you had mentioned later in this video that all airspaces are defined as MSL, with the exception of E/Echo airspace, but in this graphic at 5:08, which is a great graphic, it all says AGL? I thought maybe the AGL referred to the Class G airspace, but in that first 'cone' to the left, it shows Class G but uses MSL. Can anyone please explain? Thank you!
for airspace Charlie, from the raidius of 5 NM from the airport which is SFC to 4400 feet were obviously not allowed to fly our drone, on the 2nd circle which is from 1700 feet to 4400 feet you said we are allowed to fly our drone as long as we stay below 1700 which makes sense. My question though is, that 2nd circle we are still in class charlie airspace and do we need to contact ATC for approval before flying below that 1700 feet?
Hailey from Oklahoma: Taking my test on 8/3/23 and worried to death. been studying for months but feel like I will fall into all the trickery. Stressed out!
Hailey, I have not responded to your other comments yet but I have seen them and I appreciate your comments. I wanted to take a moment and respond to this comment. Pause and take ten deep breaths. You are going to pass. I see that you have studied. My students that study pass. My students that don’t study fail. You will do fine. I believe in you!
I’m new to drones, so this might be a stupid question. You say we are good to fly if we are under the ceiling for that class. I thought a drones max was 400 feet? Again, stupid question, but I’m still learning.
Im Zdilrlack from krbaritz VI. I'm fascinated by the way you earthlings navigate within oxygenated areas. It's quite fascinating. So much so that I decided to take a drone test to learn how to fly in such atmospheres! Your videos are an excellent learning utility. You should use OBS to record your videos. Its really easy to set up and easy to use. Its free and opensource and most youtubers use it.
Thank you so much for this, I was having a tough time with the sectional charts until I found this video.
Thanks, great stuff. Probably worth emphasizing that the sectional chart legend has lots of good info on this topic, I always go there to confirm my analysis. Thanks, Tom in Atlanta (home of the world’s busiest airport - and the busiest sectional chart for sure!).
Good information. First timer. Thanks for your work.

If you need to fly within a class ring under the MSL level will you need to get a waiver? Or can you never fly above the MSL within a class ring?
at 22:37...Doesn't class D usually extend from ground to 2500 AGL? (not 2500 MSL unless the airport is at sea level or 0 feet MSL)
Love your videos. I'm taking test end of month. I live in Concord NC. I understand NC also requires a state permit? Is that true...😮
Thank you teacher 🍎 🍏
Good stuff, miggie
Glad you enjoyed it
I’m new to drones, so this might be a stupid question. You say we are good to fly if we are under the ceiling for that class. I thought a drones max was 400 feet? Again, stupid question, but I’m still learning.
where is your follow up to this video? Thanks
Im Zdilrlack from krbaritz VI. I'm fascinated by the way you earthlings navigate within oxygenated areas. It's quite fascinating. So much so that I decided to take a drone test to learn how to fly in such atmospheres! Your videos are an excellent learning utility. I praise your scholastic capabilities and wish you a prosperous flaven! Gripsgarb and flegnzen to you friend.
Gave you a thumbs up cause I'm from Dallas :p
Can you get permission from laance to fly in class b or c ? Or do you actually have to get it from the atc ??
