It's interesting how NZ players rarely look that emphatic in their high school highlights compared to other countries' stars. Maybe because the general standard of their opponents is better, maybe because the All Blacks system churns out better teams
Actually this was my first thought, as a Saffa our schools rugby looks faster and our strike plays are on another level. I could be wrong but I suspect there is plenty of growth for nz school boys once they go professional, where here in SA we play mostly 10 man rugby at higher levels and players are coached to lose the individual stuff.
Nz you get taught how to play proper rugby ,tactical and technical especially skill level at school boys level ,they don’t care about size in nz all skills and and basics everything else falls in to places afterward 💯
I grew up in South Africa and in my Matric year I watched PBHS vs Affies. Chiliboy Ralepelle was playing for PBHS and Pierre Spies was playing for Affies, you could tell from a mile away there were 2 future Springboks playing, they were a class above. I remembered both their names from that day, and I think most of the crowd that day did too. I just don't think Reiko Ioane is really that amazing anyway, I am sure some of the NZ greats were absolute beasts back in their school days.
Henk Stols If you grew up in nz you would know that rugby to us is like a religion we live and breathe rugby in nz and are taught so well from a young age that no matter how big or small you are we know that skills and determinations takes you the farest not just talent
@@henkstols9326 i've seen the scorelines when SA schools play (destroy) english/ nz schools but i wonder what happens between that and international rugby that allows other nations to close the gap in skill and stop it from becoming a repeat scoreline
It's interesting seeing how many of these school teams feature multiple super rugby players. Seems like the NRL goes for good players in the teams that get whipped but Mitre10 / super rugby franchises go for players at these schools that do the whipping. I read that Joseph Manu from the Sydney Roosters used to be in a Tokoroa school that would get beaten quite convincingly against teams like Hamilton BHS. I think Tuivasa-Sheck had a similar experience. I wonder if they would have been more likely to be in rugby union had they gone to high caliber union schools in NZ.
Reminds me of Jonah Lomu, but no comparison here. Think he was playing for Wesley, against Te Awamutu who had Walter little nephew playing for them. but it was evident the tactice was give the ball to Jonah. he was too big, too fast and too powerful, he dominated the game for the start I lost count how many he scored thar day. I thought that day he'd be an All Black one day, so it was. Rest Easy Jonah❤
Another boy wonder who is all class yet lately in the past 2 years has struggled to regain his form because he has set such a high standard and when that is not produced or maintained then the knives come out and he filters down the pecking order until he re-emerges with the lethal form we all know he can produce! Hard to be consistent when your standards are that of a freak, especially when there is no obvious injuries instead just lost form or fitness! Shaun Johnson comes to mind when he stop playing touch in the NRL and NOW all he's got is his passing and visionary field craft game but lost his open game-changing running game? Consistency is a mental involuntary reaction played out physically! When you physically can't react to what you want to do mentally then your game suffers and you must find a edge to restore your consistency! Like growing old, your mind is STILL use to running fast but your legs are crepit and old and though you still have the motion you are slow and going nowhere! Another example is Michael Jordan had a split second more time in the air then ANYONE and he still thinks he has mentally but physically he is minus 100-Million seconds and can not re-produce that ever again yet can replay it in his head all the air-time he wants a100 times over!

Plenty of NRL guys who went to top NZ rugby schools. There’s also plenty of Super players who didn’t go to top rugby schools.
RTS made it into a Auckland Blues age group team,19s or 21s I think

RTS played for a very good Otahuhu College team. They’ve fallen from grace since then but were top rugby school through the late 90s and early 2000s.

Kudos to his opponents, they definitely handled him well enough at this age grade.
Rieko Ioane, Shaun Stevenson, Sione Havili - Grammar had a whopping team!
This more like AGS game highlights instead of Reiko highlights.
