- The "Sailor's Hornpipe," brilliantly arranged by Carmen Dragon, comes from an LP entitled "Invitation to the Dance." The 'Capitol Symphony Orchestra' on this occasion was actually the Royal Philharmonic, the recording having been made during one of Carmen Dragon's visits to the UK in 1959. Note: The picture of the ship comes from another Carmen Dragon LP entitled "Over the Waves," though the artist is uncredited (Capitol SP 8547).
Finally. I've been searching for this song since 1865.
Abraham Lincoln I cry laughed
4 score and 7 years ago I heard this song, not knowing what the hell it was I began a long journey that is now coming to an end.
-Abraham Lincoln (probably)
Been looking for this ever since the Czar was deposed.
Want to go see a mind blowing play?
POPEYE main theme variation😁
The quest for "that one song" is finally over !
ME TOO!!!
San Go i only searched for it cause it was playing in my head while high
YES, years searching the song of "Ship A'hoy Woody" from Woody Woodpecker hahahahah
That one song that you know but just don't know the title.
@@niloivan5556 i first heard it in woody woodpecker too hahahahahaha
Best arrangement of The Sailor's Hornpipe I've ever heard, hands down.
Agreed!
Lush...very lush. Great arraingement!
I like his arrangements of pieces
Carmen Dragon was one of the best conductors in the 40s through the early 60s he’s also the father of Daryl Dragon (a/k/a”The Captain”) 1/2 of the dual The Captain and Tennille with the biggest pop hit, “Love Will Keep Us Together”
So far the BEST version I've ever heard!
Oh, a sailor's life is a life for me,
How I love to sail
On the bounding sea
And I never never ever
Do a thing about the weather
For the weather never ever
Does a thing for me
Oh, a sailor's life is a life for me,
How I love to sail
On the bounding sea
If you want to sail
A ship like mine
And be a sailor all the time
Then learn to do
The Sailor's Hornpipe
Just like me
:)
Astonishing rendition of this song.
Perfect performance. I like it much more than Proms version, because here are no disturbing sounds from audience...
Outstanding!!
Glad you like it!
i remember one time at an aquarium they would play a solo flute of this song to remind tourists that ''the dolphin show will be starting in five minutes. get to the gates immediately.'' ahh good times
This was the theme of local children show in Albany NY on WTEN Called The Good Ship News early 60s to mid 70s with “Commander Ralph” Vartigan (R.I.P)
If you’re not eating Popplers and spinach while you’re listening to this; you’re doing it wrong and Bender and Popeye will hit you.
This is a difficult tune to figure out when you have no idea where you first heard it.
Some possible sources
Woody woodpecker
Popeye
Tom and jerry
Another good possible source is Alice in Wonderland
Castle Crashers
Futurama
Anything that has to do with cartoon characters portraying Pirates.

This is pretty good, but the one that will always stand out in my mind is the closing credits to the movie 'Popeye'.

That remindes me my childhood, when I watched Popeye cartoons.

dokcso No they only had 13 at the beginning.
The joke is - this tune is British...
Does anyone know the name of the composer??
The original composer for the sailors horn pipe we don't know exactly
It was first found in an manuscript that Musician William Vickers was the author of in 1770 and it has over 580 songs in it
But we don't know if that was him who created the song or was just the first to put the notes to paper
