We were riding high having just drove all over Costa Rica, but that was with an automatic 😊 Needless to say, driving manual and through the hills of Medellin was a totally different story 😂 As for our renovating neighbors, we were completely exhausted and crashed right out anyways 😴 💤 Phew 😅
Love the video, fairly entertaining. Some feedback, you guys should have talked about the process of renting the vehicle, plus fees and vehicle options at the car rental place.
Oh, thanks for the suggestion! Since this video is from 2021, we’re sorry if we missed some details about renting a car. We’re making sure to include more comprehensive info in our current videos. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for watching! 😊🙌
I just started learning how to drive a manual transmission car, and I think that drive in hills, with a lot of traffic, would be hard, especially if you have to stop in red light, with other drivers at only a couple of inches behind you.
Congrats on learning to drive manual transmission 👏 is a ton of fun 😊 But you are right, it was very challenging driving manual, in Colombia, with all of the conditions you mentioned (and very much nerve racking 😬). We were so glad they had an automatic to switch us into 🛣 🚘
Some of the steepest hill starts I ever encountered were in Big Bear, CA. There’s a little trick where you use the e-brakes to get a perfect start without rolling back at all.
Wow this is right up my ally lol I actually feel nostalgic. I grew up in the Caribbean and drove manual from the age of 13 to 19 in the mountains. I miss it I would pay extra for manual for sure. Once you get used to it you will realize manual is safer in mountainous roads. You use your breaks less and have more control of the car.
Hi Jean 👋 Nostalgia is such a great feeling 😀 I love driving manual and was so bummed that I couldn't get the hang of it in time. Maybe I will have to try again when we travel to the Caribbean. Thank you for sharing such a great memory with us 🙌
I know probably is late, but thank you for travel and meet Colombia, my Country, both of you look brave and happy; I hope people stop saying so much about drugs in Colombia and can see the beauty, people, culture and gastronomy that we have. I am 17 years old, love America 🇺🇸 Greetings from Medellin🇨🇴🥂🇺🇸
hey i should be coming to Colombia and would like a translator to be with most of the day do you know of anyone who offers those services or are you willing to help me out ofc we would have to talk other wise.
We are planning on doing this drive on a one day trip to be back in medellin the same day, is that something you guys would recommend? And is there a lot of toll roads? Thanks for making the video!
Hi lliana, thank you for watching 🙌 If you only have one day to do it, we would still recommend it, but if you have more time, we think Guatapé is a great weekend getaway; 2-3 days is perfect. We climbed El Peñol in the morning and then walked around the beautiful town of Guatapé. The only thing we didn't get to do, was to spend more time on the lake. it is so beautiful and we wish we had made time for it. As for the drive, we initially tried to avoid tolls, but it wasn't worth it. The roads we traveled on were challenging to drive and a bit scary to navigate, and it just took a lot longer. If you drive with the tolls, the roads are better, easier to drive, and it was quite a bit shorter which would be important if you are traveling in one day. All in, I think there were 2-3 tolls each way, so you would see around 4-6 (the Waze app is pretty good about letting you know when to expect tolls). We hope this helps, but please let us know if you have other questions. We hope you have a great trip to Guatapé 🚘🛣 🏔
Hello !! Thanks for the video my question is are there some or any police check points I'm asking this because some countries police officer see or realize your are guess (tourists) and want to give some Hard time to get some money out ppl. Please tell me about that experience if you guys had some trouble like that or saw something like it.
Good video thanks but you didn't say how to rent ,where to rent and how much, I am planning to go there in few weeks and I am not sure If I should Uber or rent
Thank you so much for watching, we really appreciate it 🙌 We rented the car from a company called Localiza Rent a Car. It was $40 per day for an automatic, which included their mandatory insurance. If you are traveling throughout the country, we really liked having a car, and recommend getting an automatic for the steep hills. If you are just visiting the city of Medellin, we would recommend taking Ubers as they are inexpensive and easy to find there. We hope this helps, but let us know if you have any other questions 😊
Hi Shawn 👋 The process was pretty straight forward if I remember correctly. We used a company called Localiza and they were amazing. Good service, fair prices, etc. We highly recommend automatic as opposed to manual. They require you to purchase insurance but even with insurance it was about $40 USD per day for us. We also paid on a credit card that has car rental insurance to be extra safe. We always take our own pictures before and after too. To be honest, we got the car to road trip throughout Colombia, not within the city. The traffic can get kind of crazy, we didn’t want to deal with parking, and Grab rides were very affordable. Beyond that, I can’t think of much else, but hope this helps. Drive safe and enjoy Medellin 🇨🇴
Totally understand why you visit Colombia 🇨🇴so often. It is such a beautiful country, 6 months sounds like a dream 📆😊We hope you have a safe trip on Tuesday ✈️🧳
do you normally drive manual in the states? I own a manual car, is it still suggested to get the auto? Gf's family is from the area but they don't drive and want me to rent a car
Hi Dave 👋 I am comfortable driving manual, but the hills in Medellin are crazy and traffic a bit unforgiving. The manual transmission just didn't feel as responsive as I am used to, but maybe it was just me. Personally, I would recommend getting an automatic unless you are confident in navigating very steep and long hills. it wasn't that much more expensive and it was worth the peace of mind. Hope this helps 🙌
@@jedidavid Thank you Dave, we are happy to help. And thank you for subscribing, we are excited to have you along for the many adventures ahead 🙌 We hope you have an amazing time in Colombia, we loved it there 🇨🇴
Thank you so much for watching Jonathan 🙌 I am a bit afraid of heights too, but it is so beautiful and because of that, traveling by car is one of our favorite ways of seeing a country 🚘 🇨🇴 If you do rent a car, we definitely recommend paying a it more for the automatic. It is worth it 😊
Thank you for watching Mark 🙌The bus would have been a great option 🚍 We considered it, but just love the flexibility of having a car and being able to stop and see the beautiful countryside 🌳🏔☀️
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Shawn we appreciate it 🙌 It doesn't sound like we are the channel for you, but thanks for giving us a try. We hope you are able to find the information you are looking for 👍
@@ThePassportCouple It’s funny, I just got back from there, but luckily I had my Colombian girlfriend to teach me how to pronounce it 😂 We ended up staying there for about eight days because it was soooo peaceful
you’re much braver than I would be, trying to drive there! lol - such a good attitude about the neighbor’s construction. I’d be BUMMED!

I live in Medellín and this city is a crazy chaos for drive, the manual taxydrivers in this city are superheros jjajajaj
We’ve been waiting for this video after hearing y’all’s manual adventure in Medellin… Smart choice going automatic, Nate was a champ!
It was such a nightmare, but I am glad we lived to tell the tale 😂🏔 🚗

Hi Dimitrius 👋 When we rented the vehicle, it was about $40 USD per day, which included mandatory insurance on the vehicle. Hope that helps 🙌
