I watched it for the first time today, and in the opening monologue where he says, “If I'd known I was gonna have to put up with screaming brats pissing on my lap for days out of the year, I would have killed myself a long time ago,” me, my dad, and my brother were laughing hysterically. 😂
I love Bad Santa (2003) I've never had the desire to watch the 2016 Sequel, as a fan of Bad Santa the fact Cody doesn't like it kinda annoys me in a way, Billy Bob Thornton's brilliant as The Bad Santa
I love Bad Santa but Cody's points are incredibly legitimate. The holiday spirit and "she ain't gonna shit right for a week" may not go hand in hand for everyone
Always love seeing another person who's "Jingle All The Way-pilled"! Another one on the list of "didn't know people hated it until I discovered the internet"
Great video Cody. I'd definitely recommend giving Bad Santa a rewatch. Bad Santa is one of my favorite comedies of all time and it's one of my favorite Christmas films of all time.
If you’re willing to give another take on the Christmas Carol narrative a shot, the Muppet version is legitimately great. If this was my tier list I easily would have put placed it in The Magic of Christmas.
Batman Returns is hands down my favorite Batman movie from a villian perspective. Michelle Pfeiffers decent into madness and unleashing Catwoman is the best acting in the entire franchise in my opinion. Also, Danny Devito eats up every scene he's in. Also love the recognition for The Long Kiss Goodnight.
I’m so glad to see someone on UA-cam who likes the live-action Grinch! It seems like everyone just hates on it so much and I will never understand why. It’s actually my favorite Christmas movie of all time. Glad to finally see it get some love. Awesome video, Cody.
"Jingle All the Way" is a classic. It's like a cross between "It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World" and "A Christmas Story" where the kid really wants the doll instead of a bb gun. Plus it resonated with 90s consumerism and holiday obsessions over Tickle Me Elmo dolls, Beanie Babies, etc.
When Cody puts Jingle All The Way in Christmas Magic tier: Arnold Schwarzenegger as Turbo Man (raises Turbo Man action figure over head) "YEEEEEEESSSS!!!!! YEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!"
One you need to see is 8-Bit Christmas. Essentially a retelling of the Christmas Story but much better and actually includes a wholesome message and doesn't need a second movie to help make the first better.
I rewatched Die Hard with my dad and even had my little brother join last year (he’d never seen it before). That is the best thing I’ve done for my brother
Completely agree on Home Alone 2. New York is the perfect setting for a Christmas movie and the set up is great because it takes Kevin out of his comfort zone and seemingly 'levels the playing field'. But the thing that really puts it over the top for me is the performances of Tim Curry, Dana Ivey, and Rob Schneider as the Plaza concierge staff. Those three steal the scene every time any combination of them appears, especially Tim Curry.
Decent list! A few on here I’ve not seen that I’ll try to cram in before Wednesday! No Christmas with the Kranks or deck the halls on the list though?! Interested as to where you’d put them!
Great list! I would live you to add Christmas with the cranks, miracle on 34th street (the 90s one) and 8 bit Christmas! If you live the dad relationship... you need to see 8 bit Christmas it's amazing
I saw Bad Santa around the time it came out and was like "it's ok, not great." Recently rewatched it and found myself laughing more so a rewatch is probably a good idea
This video is worth watching just to hear you talk about A Christmas Story and s Christmas Story Christmas. Nothing more endearing and special than a great father-son relationship story. The best.
I wouldn't watch a Christmas movie in June. I wouldn't watch Elf in June, I wouldn't watch the Santa Claus in June, I wouldn't watch Home Alone in June. You know what I would watch in June? Die Hard. It's not a Christmas movie. I get that you like watching it at Christmas. I like watching Lord of the Rings at Christmas (also not Christmas movies). If you would watch it all year long then it's not a Christmas movie. There is no debate.
The funniest scene from The Santa Clause for me is when he's looking at the list and sees a particular actor's name. That one moment makes me crap up more than any other scene in the entire movie. Also, I have to give a shout out to David Krumholtz as the lead elf.
Cody Leach....boy I'm mad about this....and I got to remember you are a damn 90s baby...I think that's what you said....no frosty..no Rudolph....but fucking Art the clown...smdh brotha .merry Christmas
i know it’s brought up a lot now, but i think it’s really cool how the little girl who played cindy lou who is the lead singer of the pretty reckless. they’re such a great band :)
Here are my favorite Christmas movies: It’s a Wonderful Life Die Hard (Yes, it’s a Christmas movie) Elf Home Alone & Home Alone 2: Lost in New York National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation A Christmas Story Black Christmas 1974 Violent Night Gremlins The Ref There are plenty of other Christmas films I do enjoy and appreciate, but these are the ones I usually watch most Decembers.
One Magic Christmas with Mary Steenburgen and Harry Dean Stanton, only because its my earliest memory of watching a Christmas movie. Its a slight spin on Its a Wonderful Life, about an impoverished family with a cynical mother who hates Christmas.
Great list man! For me, the must watches: Christmas vacation. Jim Carrey grinch. The Santa Clause. Elf. Die hard. Muppets Christmas carol. The holiday. Family man. Miracle on 34th (original). Christmas with the kranks (stupid fun for me). Home alone (1&2). Jingle all the way. Jack Frost. Christmas chronicles. Nightmare before Christmas is a Halloween movie to me, it doesn’t do anything for me for Christmas. And both holiday inn and it’s a wonderful life is a must watch on Christmas Eve. We did it all growing up and it’s a tradition I’ve carried on with my wife and kid. She came around and doesn’t fight me about it anymore haha
Me and my wife agree with almost all of your list, Nice one! Also No horror here either in Nov and Dec, you should watch Four Christmases, Deck The Halls, Fred Claus and Trapped In Paradise!
Doing early Christmas on Saturday due to a trip. So tomorrow I plan to watch the ref, the two bad Santa movies and red one. The ref is a rewatch, thanks Cody for introducing me to it, and bad Santa films and red one will be first watches. Hope I have some surprises.
Home Alone 3 is my favorite because it gives more explanation as to why the kid is so good at setting up traps. I also love that in the end his family finds out. It always bothered me that Kevin never mentions it to his family and for some reason they don't know about it. Yes, it takes place after Christmas, but the whole reason it began was because his neighbor was traveling home after the Christmas holiday. The bad guys figured if they put the chip in the toy car it wouldn't alarm people since others would be traveling home with Christmas presents (totally just my thoughts, respect leaving it off the list)
I feel the same way about the parents finding out. It's hilarious in part 3 when Alex is telling them where the bad guys are and the end results of the last traps as the police are taking them away.
best Christmas movie ever... Santa Claus The Movie, with Dudley Moore and John Lithgow! you should really give it a chance sometime. it's quite heart-warming and very funny!
FINALLY someone else is championing I'll Be Home For Christmas! Such an obscure and hilarious heartwarming gem. So happy to see it up on the top shelf where it belongs
Missing a few there Cody that I wished were on the list and was interested where you would've placed. 8-Bit Christmas, Christmas Bloody Christmas, Fatman, Surviving Christmas, Mickey's A Christmas Carol, The Apology, and Edward Scissorhands. Have you seen those or anyone else reading this sound off?
Nice rankings Cody! I love the Jim Carrey Grinch and the Benedict Cumberbatch one. I liked Violent Night before but I was recently watching it and found myself not liking it like I used to. Christmas Vacation is one of my favorites, such a funny movie. Merry Christmas as well Cody!
My 3 year old happened to glance at my computer when you were rating The Grinch (Dr. Seuss) and he sat down next to me for a few minutes to watch, until he realized, this wasn't the cartoon. Then he got up and went on about his business. I guess he disagrees with your rating there. 😂
I love many of the obvious classics you mentioned as many do, but I'm really happy to see Violent Night and I'll Be Home For Christmas getting love. I just watched I'll Be Home For Christmas yesterday, and Violent Night is just awesome. Also, I, too, prefer Home Alone 2 to the first, despite loving both. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Cody. Thanks for the awesome video.
If anyone ever tries to tell you Die Hard isn’t a Christmas movie, one of the main themes is family, as John is fighting to keep Holly safe and so he can see his kids. Most other Christmas movies are also about family. The only difference between Die Hard and something like Christmas Carol is that Die Hard became a classic in the action genre
A fun fact about A Harold & Kumar Christmas I just recently found out is James A. Janisse's wife, Chelsea, is an extra during the ping pong table scene. She's the redhead next to Kumar
I fully respect you not including A Christmas Carol or the 9 million versions. HOWEVER - A Muppet Christmas Carol is the best version/ top tier/ instant classic/ Micheal Cane full serious alongside puppets! If you give any a chance - let it be this one!!!!! Merry Christmas!!
Polar Express is up at the very top rung for me. Absolute classic because of the atmosphere and message. Die hard and Home alone 1 as well. It feels like everyone can get into each of these when putting it on. A knightmare before christmas has been growing on me more and more in the last 5 years.
Another terrific tier list ranking, Cody - the perfect Christmas treat for all of your subscribers (speaking of whom, I see you're nudging towards 200K. Soon may that magic figure arrive!!!) However, I disagree vehemently with your mid-tier ranking of 'It's a Wonderful Life' - an all-time, 5* masterpiece, if ever there was. And I need to correct you factually on just one point: 'Trading Places' (1983) wasn't Eddie Murphy's debut; rather, it was Walter Hill's equally brilliant '48 Hours', which came out the year before

Heartbreaking to not see Klaus on this list :( by far the best Netflix exclusive ever made
@ZacTheFirst Netflix exclusive.......
Now that's a pretty high bar.🙄
@@markbrowning4334 exactly why I said “by far”. Something that resembles an early 90’s Disney movie does NOT deserve to be stuck on Netflix

The Muppets Christmas Carol is our family tradition on Christmas Eve
One of my favorites!!
Shame it didn't make the list
Same. Christmas eve night
How can dude have a Christmas tier list but Scrooged is the only adaptation of a Christmas Carol
I love Scrooged, but COME ON.
same here! i'm 21 & it's seen me through every christmas eve with my family :')
Putting 'Red One' on the same level as "It's a Wonderful Life" is a crime against humanity...
Its a Wonderful Life shoulda been top tier off respect lmao
In what world is that movie MID!? I'm at a loss for words, tbh.
He put “Jingle All the Way” above it! 🤯
@kendallquinn26 this guy man wtf! He's just a woke idiot. Unsubbed
Yeah that's why it's called his list
Jim Carrey's Grinch will always hold a special place in my heart. I watched it alongside the original cartoon constantly as a child.
The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Christmas Special is a much watch for me every year.
Did you fuck Santa ?
If we doing shows than Martin and Fairly Opp Parents got the goats 😂😂

Bad Santa is a yearly must watch for me. Really disappointed with how low it was ranked, but it's his list, so I'll respect it.
I watched it for the first time today, and in the opening monologue where he says, “If I'd known I was gonna have to put up with screaming brats pissing on my lap for days out of the year, I would have killed myself a long time ago,” me, my dad, and my brother were laughing hysterically. 😂
“Daddddd, I saw a clattterrrr” has been eating away at me since I was a kid 😂
Hour long Cody Leach videos are my favorite type of Cody Leach video!
First two home alones are the GOATs and I also think HA2 is the slightly better one.
Bad Santa was hilarious
What's this guy even on 😂
A rare Cody miss. Agreed with most of his other assessments.
Yeah I don’t get how put Harold and kumar so high up but didn’t like bad Santa??! I feel like they’re pretty similar
Just rewatched them both last night
Did you not listen to his reasons? Pretty valid
The bad Santa disrespect is unreal
Absolutely hilarious movie
I love Bad Santa (2003) I've never had the desire to watch the 2016 Sequel, as a fan of Bad Santa the fact Cody doesn't like it kinda annoys me in a way, Billy Bob Thornton's brilliant as The Bad Santa
I love Bad Santa but Cody's points are incredibly legitimate. The holiday spirit and "she ain't gonna shit right for a week" may not go hand in hand for everyone
We ignore the sequel
but yes, Bad Santa 1 is fawkin hilarious but i was born in 2000, on all the time ehehe
If you liked the original there’s no way you won’t at least like the sequel a little bit. Kathy Bates was a fun addition.
Bad thing 😂 who's thus guy
And what makes "Die hard" even more amazing is that it was Alan Rickmans first film.
Tim Curry just smiling in Home alone 2 is so funny
😃
Definitely give bad Santa another shot it's entertaining
Always love seeing another person who's "Jingle All The Way-pilled"! Another one on the list of "didn't know people hated it until I discovered the internet"

Best Christmas (and Muppet) movie imho.
Same!! This movie is my quintessential christmas movie. This is my Christmas tradition where after we open gifts we watch this movie
My favorite version! I also love the 1951 version with Alistair Sim.
I'm with you on Jingle All The Way. I love watching it while not many others in my circle even remember its existence.
Bad Santa is definitely S tier. You are due to a rewatch.
Absolutely! It's one of the best Christmas films easily
Was gonna say this - I’m puttin on my Santa hat so fast I’m getting hat-burn! 😂
Before I get to see Sonic the Hedgehog 3 today, you drop this? Today’s my lucky day.
I heard the original script for The Santa Clause was even darker: Santa comes down the chimney and Scott shoots him dead.

It really needs a sequel
Have you seen Christmas Bloody Christmas? Tis fun, cool atmosphere/lighting, grainy (in a good way), has a rock n roll vibe and killer gore.
48 Hrs was before Trading Places, re: Eddie Murphy's first movie.
Home Alone is more heartwarming than Lost in New York (The Marley scene at the end gets me every time) that being said, the sequel is way funnier

You forgot the Charlie Brown Christmas 😭 the best Christmas movie/special of all time!
