Firsty thank you for passing this gift to us,and allowing us to all have the chance to to re invent ourselves, Siu Lim Tao bundled into a such an efficient package, with no excess, nothing not wing chun,
so perfect that it has no language barrier ,all the questions and all the answers we could ever ask included for free, and ability to be constantly evolving with our mind as if its nature itself, keep practicing fellow students, if its Wing Chun that your asking for then you have the answers already, little idea form is an enormous wealth.if only all the worlds important secrets could be shared more freely, xie xie Sifu Ip Chun for your gift to us. ,
I have never ever heard of a wing chun practitioner damaging their wrists through huen sau (wrist rotation). Because this is done in a relaxed state, their should be no fear of injuries. most of wing chun form energy is concentrated in the elbow and of course the main focus should be breathing from the Dantien. for this area stores the chi(energy) to be used in fajing ( energy release). good wing chun is totally relaxed until impact.. then the energy and power is released 100% to its target.
siu lum tao is teaching the upper body how to relax when performing movements. when the body is relaxed the mind is calm and energy can flow easily without blockages. This is a very difficult form when done right. the form should take at least 15 minutes for it not only trains upper body relaxation but also trains lower body stability. hard and soft, yin/yang. empty and full.
+Shamush Khufu So if your punching fast why would you contort your wrist like that on the witdraw? couldent you mess it up real bad with many punches? Im currently learning WC right (book with ip chun) and have a few qiestions
First let's keep in mind that Wing Chun is so well designed that, literally ANY movement in every form is meant to have more than one application/use. Eventually though, once your body has committed the rotation to muscle memory; that's when you'll start seeing practical and effective applications for a simple wrist rotation
Applications such as, 1.being able to keep forward pressure while rotating THROUGH a Bong Sau or Tan Sau. 2. If you miss your opponent's head; halfway through executing Huen Sau your hand becomes a hook, which you can use to manhandle them by the neck, causing them to tense up (making it easier to control them). 3. Can also be used to first grip their hair, ear, clothing or even cheek before pulling them toward your next strike or even forcing them down to the ground. And please keep in mind that these are just a few uses off the top of my head. Also, learning in person (if you have the option) makes it SO much easier to learn because your Sifu will break down the forms, teach you the principles found in each movement, and give you drills to practice with your Wing Chun "siblings" (classmates) which gives you a better understanding of how to use what you learn on an actual human being. Hope this helped! Best of luck to ya!
To all guys who vote this video thumb down. Think about the age of Ip Chun if you become his age maybe you can move your body not only half way of Ip Chun. So show respect for this grate Master
@Patrick k - the palm strike your referring to is to hit the lower rib area. Since bending the body would sacrifice the structure of the stance, its better to reposition the hand.
you should add details to your description so that others do not do it incorrectly. note centerline, the tuck of the tail bone, the squeeze of the upper thigh near the groin (do not use the knees to squeeze), pulling in the chest, pushing out the back, and breathing from the dan tien located 2-3 inches below the naval and centered inside the body. the yee jee kim yeung ma stance must be performed correctly throughout the sil lum tao.
I believe you're referring to the 2nd part towards the mid-end? If so, say someone were to grab you by both your shoulders, you would do that downward strike to knock their hands down off of you.
Who knows why Ip Chun for 0:45 minutes takes an elbow to the side of the body? And why not to beat a full back elbow for 1:53 minutes? Why your knees are not confined to the apex of the triangle?
+Joshua Deeds I was taught Siu Lim Tao version Chow Tze Chuen, and explained that the elbow is not to be led astray, and need the elbow to move back. If the elbow to be led astray, it is easy to pinch.
In the wooden dummy there is a section where you hit with both palms while stepping into the dummy from the sides and when in the center you just thrust while planted. I think the idea has to do with the bottom hand which is a palm strike with fingers pointing down. The top hand is a palm strike to the head with finger pointed up. If you've played street fighter the hands like like Ryu's hadouken. hehe, but you have to try it. It's fun! I hope that was right.
You are correct. The "ni" is not required. The difference is in the end result of what you say. "Xie xie" is basically "Thanks", while "Xie xie ni" is "Thank you".
The heel of hand strike, with fingers facing down, appears to me to be more of risk to the striker than the receiver. Does anyone know of the real application of this strike? From what I know of Mr Ip Chun, I have great respect for him.
for some reason it is in "mirror mode" the form should start with the left hand, i think someone has cut off the small chat/intro and doing so has made a school boy error and posted this backwards some how
This is Ip chun. Elder Son to Grandmaster Ip Man. Every School claims Ip Man as there lineage but who would know the form better than his own son. If you think that he is doing something wrong then perhaps you are studying a falsified wing chun. This is the way i have been taught. It is refreshing to see Grandmaster Ip Man's son practicing the same way, i know i havent been lead astray unlike many of todays wing chun practitioners
+jay why i believe to many ppl, been studying the water down versions of wing chun, and they believe or don't see the difference between the Authentic Versions vs the New Shorten Versions, bcuz the practitioners of today take to many short cuts, and they stop teaching the true arts, or substitute it with other art style and say its part of wing chun or, some other art style. Few Years ago i went to Reno, to Martial Arts school, on the internet they advertise the original Shaolin Style Kung Fu, but when you go to their school its totally Hybrid Styles of the Martial Art! False Advertising is what spoils the Art in my Opinion!
Very true. But for the sake of conversation, wing chun has been added to, or made to evolve, since it was invented. The long pole form was added along the way, leung bik also made improvements he felt would enhance the style. He only taught his variation to one person, ip man. Chan Wah-shun, taught 16 people i believe. Both were students of Leung Jan but chan wah-shun believed he should teach the traditional style while Leung Bik practiced a modern version. The reason for my comment was in response to someone saying that Ip Chun made a mistake in the video. I find that very hard to believe considering his lineage and how long he has been practicing. Everybody wants to beleive their wing chun is the best and all others are flawed but the art itself has evolved thru its entire existence. The more i study, the more i understand that there will always be a difference in styles when taught by different instructors. Some of these instructors may have actually improved the style while others, as you said, have watered it down. When the wing chun community stops bickering over authenticity, i believe there could be more improvements made to the system. I trust my Si-Fu for the simple fact that he doesnt claim to teach the "authentic" wing chun, only that our lineage is that of Ip man. After watching ip mans son perform the same forms exactly the way i do, i am confident knowing that i am indeed studying Ip mans wing chun. Sorry for the lengthy response, i just am very passionate about "MY" wing chun.
I am glad, I wasn't Putting you down or anything, I agree with you and what your Sifu teaches you, I was just upset where ppl say or falsely advertise martial art for what it isn't. I've practiced TKD about 20 years ago, I always enjoyed the Martial Arts, Yes the Arts should evolve incrementally not drastically, like some practitioners of Martial Arts do, thus i call it water down arts. When I've lived in Hawaii i had a co-worker who studied the wing chun form, but he was secretive about it, he never shared the art with anyone, and thus I understood it was something taboo for him to share, but i've been around differerent art styles, and notice some changes, some very dramatic and others not so much, but the ones who have the most changes, are incorporated into street fighting styles, instead teaching someone the fundamentals style and its origins and then implement the new styles, so it has its complete form. As i was stating earlier 20 years ago i was taking TKD implemented with Aikido and Tai Boxing, I believe, most of the art was based on TKD, small increments of the other 2 Art Styles were being added to it, that it didnt make a really drastic impact on the Style it self. And I'm Glad your Studying the WingChun that is Part of the Yip Man's Linage, that is Awesome!
I didnt think you were putting me down. I wouldnt have responded if i did, i dont waste energy on negative people or the comments they make. I do however enjoy having conversations with people that know what they are talking about. There is always knowledge to be obtained and it occasionally comes from an unknown source. I actually started learning wing chun to teach my son. I knew if i waited to put him in whatever form of MA, that he may not want to do it. BUT if he sees me practicing my forms, he will do it to copy my movements. Which he already has. Me and my son practice a very mild form of Chi sau, but i make it like a game so he now walks up to me and puts his hands up. I have even caught him doin pak sao and bong sao while looking at his hands. Thank you for the conversation. Best wishes from Houston, TX

its so funny that posers and haters say that his form is wrong, XD if there was a bruce lee video doing this, the same rat kids will hate saying the same. ... haters gonna hate. this is gorgeous
vernonclassic this video only shows the movement of siu lim tao without explaining the 'thoughts' of how the power(from the central dantian) should be used with every movement. so its practically just an exercise.

Those short and coordinated moves can teach you everything about the beignner's principes of Wing Chun,if you practise Siu Nim Tao with clear mind and stressless, otherwise this is just useless :)
+Blue-Lotus Foot Not sure if you realized who Ip Chun is the son of, but you should study proper Wing Chun, not the future crap that people think is good today.

Read Wing Chun kung fu by IP Chun. at first he didnt want to learn Wing Chun but he then decided to do it with his father IP Man because he was getting older. it wasnt for the money. and the form is actually perfect the key to Wing Chun is to be calm and accurate and simple. please keep your disrespectful comments to your self.
Also, almost every school I have been to does "the little idea" slightly different. A little maddening actually when you have been doing it a certain way for years lol.
Firsty thank you for passing this gift to us,and allowing us to all have the chance to to re invent ourselves, Siu Lim Tao bundled into a such an efficient package, with no excess, nothing not wing chun,

Learned it!!! Thank you soo much Sifu Ip Chun
Practice daily for 1 hour like Grandmaster Master Ip Man.
LONG LIVE VING TSUNG!
Amazing, i'm re-discovering wing chun after a break and Sil Lim Tao encompasses more than I had imagined before when i first learned.
Wow sir you are world hero wing chun
Congratulations Grand Master IP CHUN !!! Wing Chun will remain forever!!!
From Boa Vista-Roraima-Brasil!!
Much respect to Master Yip Chun. Thanks for the form sir.
It's not the stiff motion that makes it effective, it's the repetition. The key to Kung Fu is relaxed muscles so your reflexes have full effect.
Have the book he's written. Having this video is extremely helpful in my training. Thank you!
Are you training wing chun? Nice.I never got a chance to learn martial arts 'cos mum says no fighting :(
I study it but I'm taking a class in Choy li fut. It's all kung full tho. And tell your mom it's not about fighting...it's about self.
Misty Kirksey
You? training? That kind of joke is not funny...
Sol Badguy are you...trolling me? Haha!

Come on... Be serious...

Отлично показано, где расслабляешь мышцы, где требуется напряжение. Ни в одном другом видео, лучше не сделали. Как говорится талант учителя в крови.

Wing chun is such a devastating peaceful art
@Patrick k - the palm strike your referring to is to hit the lower rib area. Since bending the body would sacrifice the structure of the stance, its better to reposition the hand.
Sifu Chun still got it
He's shaky, that's how old and legendary this guy is yeo!! I love him
i love sifu ip chin .....
his generation ip man
Very nice and gentle movements performed by Yip Man's elder son Yip Chun. But why is the video mirror-inverted?
I think it's so you can mirror his moves if you are learning.
Thank you Si Fu!!
Peace
you should add details to your description so that others do not do it incorrectly. note centerline, the tuck of the tail bone, the squeeze of the upper thigh near the groin (do not use the knees to squeeze), pulling in the chest, pushing out the back, and breathing from the dan tien located 2-3 inches below the naval and centered inside the body. the yee jee kim yeung ma stance must be performed correctly throughout the sil lum tao.
beautiful....
Ip Chun may be old outside, but still young and strong in the inside as long as he keeps training.

Okay, so you learned a different families version, that doesn't make Yip Chun's incorrect.
+Joshua Deeds I'm not saying that the technique Ip Chun is not correct, and want to know why he takes an elbow to the side.

36 disrespectful people don't appreciate the art of Wing Chun or/and the Grandmaster. Please *DH
wing chum is more than just a ''style''
38 japanese black belts desliked wing chun lol
Patrick k: That fingers down hand strike logically seems to be an attack on the target's jaw.
You are correct. The "ni" is not required. The difference is in the end result of what you say. "Xie xie" is basically "Thanks", while "Xie xie ni" is "Thank you".

Why is this video inverted ??? Left side on the right side ?
for some reason it is in "mirror mode" the form should start with the left hand, i think someone has cut off the small chat/intro and doing so has made a school boy error and posted this backwards some how
you can see it is backwards because the logo on his t-shirt is on the right side instead of the left
wing chun is pure geometry....!
Great Master

I'm no sifu but that's how I was told to do by mine, I don't see anything wrong.

@killer67817 It will do nothing for you unless you learn the reason behind the moves wich requires you to learn wing chun. Sorry.
I actually see many errors in this.
+Blue-Lotus Foot If you see errors in this you have no idea about Wing Chun, people like you are the ones who give Wing Chun a bad name.
+Blue-Lotus Foot idiot.
No really.
But if you say so.
+Blue-Lotus Foot Not sure if you realized who Ip Chun is the son of, but you should study proper Wing Chun, not the future crap that people think is good today.
