It makes me freaken cry listening to their old music realizing they werent recognized world wide. Marys Blood/Nemophila's SAKI and Sun Go SHOW-YA's guitarist are like mother and daughter. There is a 1990 Tokyo Dome concert on YT you would like Ryan. Its brilliant. They are great live. Like all Metal Japanese ladies. Speaking after their new recording they said they want to get even heavier. Lets not forget Sun Go as well. She's a freakin great guitarist.

I find interesting that it's taken a generation to get what we have coming out of Japan now. I have only come across a handful of Japanese rock or metal bands of Show-Ya's generation. Loudness was my first exposure from the eighties and more recently Ningen Isu has been around nearly as long. I believe this song is from an upcoming album from them.

Keiko Terada's voice has always been deep and powerful! If you wanna see her and the rest of the band in their prime check out Watashi Wa Arashi.

Nemophila cover of Fairy sent me to Show Ya about a year ago. Great band. Keiko is pure Rockstar. Love her voice. Total class.

Yep, Nemophila was my gateway to X Japan too. Another incredible band that took way too long to discover.

You're right, most of the members are literally grandmothers now lol The fact that they still dish out music is... Mind boggling :)
You should listen to live stuff they did in the 80-90's.. That's when they were at their peak. They've lost a little pep in their step by now.. Kinda like listening to recent albums from Metallica and Megadeth, y'know?
I remember when I heard Band Maid's "thrill' for the first time .. I thought "ah, another show-ya copycat dressed in maids" They were very green back then, and Saiki sounded a loooooooot like Keiko Terada at the time....
Boy did they ever prove me wrong lol. But had Kanami never decided to write her own stuff, I'd probably would've never become a fan.
YOu might not want to watch the whole budokan show live, but it's on youtube....
Maybe a video of "Watashi ga Arashi" (I am the storm) will show you what they were all about? It reeks of the 80's, but in a good way :)

The ladies are over 50 they still look better than the old metal hair band from the 80ies. I know Keiko Terada hosts Naon no Yaon event or at least every time seen the shows SAKI and TOMO-ZO performing. You should watch when she performs with Mayu of Nemophila, Eye of Mary's Blood and Angie of Gacharic Spin well worth watching. Now have you ever reacted to Destrose most of present ladies got their start with them. Plus the founder is still going with Fate Gear Captain Mina. And as always you did a good job with this reaction to SHOW-YA and a fair assessment. Thanks

The progenitors of the female j-rock movement. They've influenced so many bands and still have a major hand in the j-rock scene. True and original Rock Goddesses. You can hear their influence in sooooo many current bands, female and male.
Bands I can think of that have been touched by Show-Ya:
    Scandal
    Band-Maid
    Gacharic Spin
    Stereo Pony
    Silent Siren
    Lovebites
Mary's Blood... just to name a few.

I only know a little about Show-Ya, but it my personal opinion that Keiko Terada is an absolute badass. Look up Naon no Yaon 2021 on UA-cam, you may see a few familiar faces.

Ya, my first real introduction to them was with that show, and it's clear that not only do they influence the music of the newer bands, they influence their attitudes too. There's a real sense of family on stage, and a focus on the joy of making music together.

Wow, I didn't realise you've covered Show-Ya. Back in the late 80s to early 90s Show-Ya (metal) and Princess Princess (pop rock) were the big two girl bands. I couldn't quite get into either of them but they definitely marked their name in Japanese music history.

I agree with you: Love Keiko's voice! Love how she sings cleanly but with that rasp in it. She's always done that as far as I can tell but of course her voice has changed somewhat by now. Show-Ya started when she was somewhere around 20, now she's almost 60. Still is the fucking Japanese queen of Rock though!

ARIGATO for the good good choice!! SHOW-YA is "the GREAT PIONEER" of japanese female bands.
    KEIKO(vo), CAPTAIN(keyboard), SUN-GO(guitar), SATOMI(bass), and MITTAN(drums) are the member.
SHOW-YA played at1981 and still playing now. They are influenced by DEEP PURPLE, LED ZEPPELIN.
Their early time performances are so powerful and so brutal. Please watch the next songs.
●WATASHI WA ARASHI( I am the storm MV 1989) : This song is very popular in japan now and then.
●LOOK AT ME(NAON NO YAON live at 2021) : so powerful and so catchy.
●ROLLIN' WORLD(live in tokyo 1989) : Especially, "AU REVOIR 40:12~45:36" is so fast and so powerful.

Yes, this video features a bunch of 60-something women rocking out. Thank you for featuring them. To me they are heroes, and I hugely regret not knowing about them until just a few years ago. I think Keiko is one of the great rock voices of all time, and it is sad she has so little exposure in the West. Same for the whole band. Yes, they took a lot of inspiration from Western proto-metal bands like Deep Purple and AC/DC, and they are very open about that, but they developed their own unique sound.
I sent you a longer writeup, but here is my top suggestion from that list: Their 2005 (24th anniversary!) concert performance of the biggest hit from their 1989 album "Outerlimits": "Watashi Wa Arashi" (I Am the Storm) ua-cam.com/video/oJ_5Gv3vFjQ/v-deo.html You'll hear a heavy Deep Purple vibe.

Bad ass band been at it fore years and as good now if a little less energetic as in the 80s and 90s .There is a big hand from them steering Nemophila on the right path .If you watch Sun go back in the hay day she does the 90 deg back bend whilst playing that Saki now does And Show- Ya's drummer filed in for Tamu while she was away for there Show-Ya covers .There legends in Japan but hardly got any where in the west there more popular in the west now due to YT and Reactors like you when there getting close to the end !! .Some of there live shows back in the day are on YT well worth watching .

If you like her voice, you should also check out Maki Oyama, currently my favorite singer (or my second favorite after Fuki 😁) of all of the Japanese girl bands. Maki also has a lower voice than most of the others and a lot of power behind it: ua-cam.com/video/MAFJE-Uqklg/v-deo.html

Oyama sang with Asterism at least once. There are a couple of clips from that on UA-cam. Fancam low-fi, but gives an idea how intense she is.

The Epic Grandmothers. 40 year old band. With original members. Excellent choice. Keiko Terada /vo/ is a very big name over there . Ningen isu is an Epic Grandpa band . They only exist for 35 years 🙃😉. tip : " NINGEN ISU / Heartless Scat(人間椅子 / 無情のスキャット)" brilliant ... Seikima is like that . " 聖飢魔Ⅱ BATLLER & 地獄の皇太子 " and X Japan ... one of the greatest bands of all time in Japan / on the world " X Japan Kurenai from The Last Live- HD "
The epic, classic Japanese BIG GUN -s 🙃😍🤩
They were brilliant and they are at now ...
    🤘🐇🕳

@Ryan Mear if you want to hear something very big and very epic ... X Japan Kurenai . I guarantee you will like it . Let's put it this way, it's one of the highlights of an all-in epic retreat concert .
If you are looking for "X Japan Kurenai from The Last Live- HD" throw it in the official link first ... it's a cult classic over there almost every band has a rework / cover of it ...

Japanese female band members call them as "Oh-nei-san" (respectful way of calling an older sister).
To me, Eye-To-Eye is not a representative song of Show-Ya (though it is a good song).
I suggest you to check their older songs like "Watashi-wa-arashi" and "Genkai Lovers": ua-cam.com/video/MxbCn24-EWA/v-deo.html
Have fun with the Show-Ya world😉

SHOW-YA is such an important band and influencer. However, as much as I like them, "Eye to Eye" doesn't feel fresh and is way too familiar in a massive sea of rock/metal music. But keep diving, Ryan. You'll find some pearls.
