I saw thes ladies in Sasebo When I was stationed there in the 90's. They were killing it then. And they still bring it. This year marks their 43rd year. and they still bring it.

Show-Ya was my introduction to Japanese metal in 86 when a friend of mine came back from a trip with a cassette, he made me a copy and I played it so many times, he had to make me a 2nd copy

Love Show Ya. Wish I had have known about them in the 1980's. They have done so much for the Japanese music scene. Their yearly NAON YAON concerts for all Japanese lady musicians are a definite live I have to see. Bring your rain coat though as it seems it always rains that time of year.

Godmothers of Japanese rock. The band name "Show-Ya" comes from the name of the izakaya (a kind of pub) they were having drinks in while discussing their future, when things weren't going well for them early in their career. Obviously they turned things around. Have seen them live a number of times. This song is often covered by other bands in Japan. First gig Nemophila ever did-under the name "Mayu Session", Aug. 22, 2019-this was the first song of the set.

I'm truly envious. They are a Hall-of-fame band who will never be in the hall of fame because no one here knows who they are.

@@hiawatha.g Didn't Gene Simmons say something along those lines about X Japan? Despite y t, much of the West is still fairly ignorant about Japan's music scene, especially about how big, vibrant, varied, and excellent it is. Btw, in their early, obscure days Show-Ya and X Japan used to hang out at each other's club gigs.
I saw Show-Ya once before they ceased activity in the late 1990s, and three times after they resumed in the 2000s, not including the many times I've seen them at Naon no Yaon since 2008 and the co-headlining show with Nemophila in Sept. 2022 (the two bands have the same management agency, which produced that concert).

It's so great how women have taken on rock. We were in good hands before. But ever since the turn of the century, women have been putting rock back on top and keeping it their great soft/hard hands. Thx, RC!

I'm glad to see that Show - Ya is still active and playing live. I recommend this song from the '89 show.

Thank you for getting to this so quickly and for sharing the background info with your viewers. As much as I love some of the other vocalists such as Asami and Mayu, I think Terada-san is the greatest Japanese rock vocalist I've ever heard, and one of the greatest world-wide. That rich, husky voice just kills me. So, no, none of them are sisters--they just found each other. Three of them are named "Miki" so they have nicknames to distinguish them: "Captain", "Sun-Go" and "Mittan".
    Here are more clips:
“Still be Hanging On” (live in L.A., 1988, their first US appearance) written by Rick Neilsen of Cheap Trick but never released, Show-Ya made it their own: ua-cam.com/video/ZyNI9TSZv8c/v-deo.html
“Cry for Freedom” (2008 NAONのYAON) ua-cam.com/video/pS-SdwC-bHE/v-deo.html
Classic power ballad, with a heart-stopping slow burn solo.
“One Way Heart” (mid 2010’s) ua-cam.com/video/-KCATewd2zM/v-deo.html Straight-up rocker; Sun-Go tears it up on lead.
“Look At Me” (from their live appearance at 2021 NAONのYAON) ua-cam.com/video/aUzOGHtUC0M/v-deo.html

If Show-Ya is the godmother of japanese all female rock band, then Aldious is the mother of japanese all female metal band. Formed in 2008 Aldious had inspired a new generation of all female japanese metal bands. ua-cam.com/video/sfkJT0rra-8/v-deo.html

Worth checking out some of the videos from - NAON NO YAON - the Music Festival that the vocalist Keiko Terada set up to showcase all female Japanese bands - there are some EPIC clips of collabs with Show-Ya and some of todays giants like Saki from Nemophila and a host of the best modern musicians and vocalists in Japan today all on stage together having SO much fun and showing each other so much respect - it really is unique !
