@@CatDaddyGaming SW5E.com has made it easier by transfering star wars rpg material to DnD 5E. Using it as a guide to make more old republic stuff for flavor, extra stuff for different levels, saber crystal modifiers. Then adding it all to DnD beyond to make it easier for my players to track. Then creating a story for my players from scratch. Lots of time its taking lol.
I wish this game had prestige classes for grey users :( Ive always loved how the story really hints at you benefiting the most from being a grey user but the mechanics of the game really does tend to force you to get extreme one side or another for Powah :(
to use dark or the opposite just amp up charisma to neutralize the recoil.....i could see using dark force powers corrupting you if you have low wisdom/charisma, intelligence.....i wanna create a main grey order something like the imperial knights
In star wars walking the middle just makes you weaker as to get more powerful you must dedicated to one path, the dark or the light. So being in the middle essentially stunts your abilities and potential.
The game never suggests you to be a fencesitting grey Jedi, all Kreia wants is for you to have reasons for you actions that aren't dogmatic adherence to the ideology of the Sith or Jedi.
Quick note for new players: for some reason, the game factors in ONLY your characters repair skill when deconstructing items at a work bench(Xbox) so it's much more rewarding to at least have a high repair and persuade skill no matter your class. The kind of things you can craft get crazyyy. Quick edit: I agree with the dual lightsaber for everyone unless you're focusing on jedi master. I've had a lot of fun doubling up with the crystals that buff your wisdom and charisma to make your force attacks truly epic!
8:26 Battle Meditation is great for consulars too. At higher levels, it lowers the will saves of opponents, making them more vulnerable to force powers.
You are certainly correct! Battle Meditation is definitely a good one to use. I did hate leaving out so many good ones. I may have to make another video going over the powers and what they all offer.
Playing on the hardest difficulty, enemies were resisting my powers, even as a consular. I realized that using force scream first usually lowered my enemies' attributes enough to land a follow up fear/horror, etc. giving atton his sneak attack for way better damage
@@Homo_eWRECKtusgotta do what I did a put 18 points into wisdom at the start. Yeah the early game is rough but by end game you can use force confusion on Darth Sion and make em an ally temporarily lol
I've played through the game a dozen times and already have my own preferences but still I watched this video all the way through just cause I enjoyed hearing your take. Good content, keep it up
This was really informative. I just got the game on the Xbox one and have been having a great time, I upped my persuasion the most and conversations have been great. I know it’s an old game but I’m having a ton of fun playing it
I got it on the original Xbox as a kid I didn’t realize what I was missing out on I was used to playing Jedi knight 2 and hacking up people the combat bothered me but you can get used to it
@Lie Ren No they don’t stack, the feats more so just enable a mechanic rather than just adding attack. Can’t really enable it twice. The finesse lightsaber wasn’t properly setup and kinda became wasteful.
@@fireblast8972 Now that I’m not sure of. That’d be very good if it did. +4 to attack for melee weapons and +2 for sabers with both weapon focus and specialization for both.
Great guide, but I have to disagree on three things: 1) I wouldn't recommend it for beginners but a gunslinger jedi playthrough is very fun, worth trying out 2) flurry is the clear winner of melee feats, power attack and crit attack can be viable at the start but by the time you get a saber you can deal so much damage with a single attack that having one more gives way more damage than the power attack bonus, 3E simple wasn't balanced around the numbers KOTOR2 reaches 3) there's no clear winner between dual wielding and saberstaff in my opinion thanks to random drops on most best crystals - if you want stack attribute bonuses then dual wield since those bonuses stack regardless of source, but if you want to get best damage then you pick your most damaging gems and put them into a saberstaff so that all your attacks have the best bonuses
Thank you very much! :) You do make some great points but I can't say I agree with Flurry or not dual wielding. Maybe I will have to put some more time and love into building a Flurry build but Critical Strike always gets me my best damage. Maybe I will have to try a dual bladed saber some more but 4 crystals stacking on my attack usually stomp the 2 I put into the dual saber. I will definitely try out some of these other ways and see if I can get them to work better for me! :)
To me, the damage difference between dual weilding and double-bladed is negligible. For my Weapons Master, twinblade did slightly more damage, but my dual wielding stacking of skills (stun and keen) was also REALLY good. For me, both are equal-- all depends on what you're looking for
Also, I should add that the only benefit I see for flurry is that an additional attack increases your chances of landing damage in a round that you typically would miss the first two swings. Just a thought
Flurry is definitely way better for melee. The power attack bonus just isn’t worth taking for anything past telos, as you should be getting a lightsaber just after that and the plus ten is negligible compared to a whole new attack, especially at no penalty. It’s expected to be doing over 100 damage regularly by the end of the game for martial classes, and you will hit often, especially once you buff up your attacks per round with buffs like master speed. At that point you’ll be doing to much damage to even consider power strike. Crit strike is good on paper but I find it almost never nets enough extra damage for it to be worth three feats. Maybe RNJesus just hates me I don’t know.
Agreed. Playing through hating Kreia, and playing through admiring her, are both such different experiences. I've seen others who disagree, but I think Kreia's character is brilliant. I also have my OG Xbox. My KOTOR 2 copy is very scratched. It freezes during Dxun on my Xbox 360, but the OG Xbox plays that scratched disc like a champ!
@Glühfunke, have it on there too. The made Kotor into an app. Works pretty well. Seems as though Kotor 2 will never get that treatment. I also have Kotor 2 on the laptop with the restored content mod
Just replaying this game after watching your videos makes me want Obsidian to make their own Star Wars game now that EA no longer has exclusivity. Give Obsidian piece of the pie please.
Agreed! There are a ton of rumors going around about a new RPG Star Wars game. Everyone thinks it is Kotor 3 but I am pretty confident it will be a Kotor Style RPG but for THE HIGH REPUBLIC and not the The Old Republic. They will be pushing that era way hard so I can't see them making Kotor 3 before something from that era. I would love Kotor 3 but those are some huge shoes to fill lol
I constantly see people saying they want obsidian to make this or that game because they made Kotor 2 and New Vegas but obsidian isn't the same company anymore. Almost none of the people that worked on those games are at obsidian anymore.
I played sentinel/watchman all the time for skill play throughs. That flank damage bonus was no joke too if you liked to micromanage team positioning. Stealth was never worth but all that extra experience and chances to get more out of the game was a big win. Finally that CC immunity at the end game was so nice 👍🏻
Here with a helpful hint for the start of the game. If you're going Consular, which is the only good starting class, with high Intelligence, put a single point into both Demolition and Security. Save 3 points at creation and take Class Skill: Computer Use as your first feat. Getting Force Focus at level 2 will allow you to collect the mines at the start of the game with no future investment. You can now pump Computer Use and Repair to 15 and 20
I disagree, I think consular might be the worst one. You'll only have 6 feats at lvl 15 compared to sentinels 8 or guardians 9, and like guardian you're only proficient in 4 skills, compared to the sentinels 6. You'd use one of your few precious feats to get computer use, when sentinels have computer use for free. All this for +4 DC (not even damage increase) on your force powers and a bonus force power per 3rd level? Only ever worth it if you're doing a force-only run, and that's barely since you'd already pump wisdom and charisma anyways, both of which boost force DC + damage all-in-one. The bonus force powers are superfluous in this scenario as well, you'd only use force lightning/storm or MAYBE drain life/death field, and every jedi class already gets enough force powers from the 1 at every level-up. You'd get a lot more mileage from picking sentinel. You get immunity to most debilitating effects in the game, you get 4 extra skill points on creation for the same amount of intelligence and 1 extra skill point per level, you start with security so you don't lose 1 extra point for investing skills there on creation. With intelligence at 14 you'll do wonders. Even if this is lower than your suggested consular intelligence, which I doubt, you can compensate by putting an extra point in demo and you'll have the same results. Plus you're now free to spend those attribute points at something more worthwhile since skill points are cheaper to invest than attribute points. You'll only lack demolitions and repair, repair being the only crucial one you're missing. But with the two extra feats you get it's easily remedied, or you can do the consular prestige at 15 to get repair "for free". Which I wouldn't recommend, since both consular prestiges suck for all the same reasons that basic consulars suck.
I would suggest everyone to follow OP's advice, but instead create sentinels, dump strength since it is only good for damage and hit chance, both you'll still have plenty of from other sources. Now just put all other attributes to 14. You'll have a character that has the potential to go for as much content as your alignment will allow, all in one run. With this, you can easily get the permanent attribute upgrades locked in skill/attribute checks from your companion dialogues with Hanharr, HK-47 and T3-M4.
Well thank you very much. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know that! My videos are usually geared towards the new players who are just giving the game a shot but still fun to check out videos on your favorite games. I am still learning about things in this game I never realized before. I can not overstate how good of a job they did story wise. I mean yeah sure they rushed it and did some weird things to the vanilla version but the story is just super compelling!
Very nice! I always tend to enjoy the game more after I take a very long break from it. The one liners and dialogue are so great. You forget how well done it was for the time it came out!
@@CatDaddyGaming Recently did my first RCM run and now going through the mobile version and I'm blown away as much by the things I've seen a thousand times as I am the things in RCM. Kotor 2 might've been unfinished but it was so good I've never cared and going years without playing religiously really makes me appreciate it more.
@@zeroattentiongaming820 Agreed! The game is a classic. Maybe it's the nostalgia talking, but I have as much fun running through this game as I do playing new AAA games. I will definitely agree with you on enjoying it even more when I've taken a long break from it.
My 2 favorite class combinations: consular/sith lord and sentinel/marauder. I always go with the dark side prestige classes because on Korriban, you can grind your way to lv 50 in the sith tomb, but if you’re light side, your force points will replenish very slowly.
Great video breaking down key game mechanics. You made several valid points. However: 1) When playing as a Jedi Sentinel, I always select the Class-Skill Demolitions and Class-Skill Repair feats first. Demolitions first since you encounter mines early on in Peragus, so it helps to have enough skill points to recover mines and gain some XP. After that, you can level-up whatever skills you want. I always max out Persuade and Security. 2) For attacks, I always start with Flurry (later Improved and Master Flurry) to reduce the defence penalty when my character has lower health and defence early in the game. Also, there is a chance that I can land critical hits with Flurry especially if my weapon is Keen. Keen (or Critical Threat Range x2 or x3) means your chances/likelihood of dealing a critical hit (more damage) is greater than dealing normal damage with your weapon. That being said, the combat animation for Flurry takes longer to complete since you are landing more attacks per round. Later on, I sometimes use Critical Strike and/or Power Attack for quickly eliminating groups of weaker opponents. Nevertheless, I still use Flurry as my main attack. 3) Toughness is a must-have in general for any character. More health = more fun. 4) Force Valor is crucial for breaking down and creating items at workbenches and lab stations. If you are a few levels shy of creating a certain upgrade for your lightsaber, blaster and so on, you could use this force power to boost your skill levels a few points so you can potentially create what you need. The same goes for picking locks, slicing computers and repairing droids/machines. For example, if there is a certain lightsaber upgrade that requires a Demolitions skill level of 15 and my current level is 14 (assming I have no equipment that improves this skill), using Force Valor will bump my Demolitions skill level >=15, just enough to create that upgrade. 5) In most playthroughs, I never had to use the Revitalize power since I found the game easy enough that I never had characters die in combat. This is partly because I always ensure my party has more than enough Energy/Mandalorian Melee Shields on hand and would equip them by double-clicking on them from the Menu instead of in-game. However, some players would benefit from using it. Also, I found the Force Resistance and Force Immunity powers incredibly useful when facing Dark Jedi and Sith (especially against Darth Nihilus and Darth Traya). Likewise, keep up making great content.
Now that it's out on Switch, I'm playing it again. What a nostalgia trip! I'm going with a build you're gonna hate, lol. Starting Jedi Guardian, but playing it like a Sentinel. 18 Int to start for 20 skill points. First handful of feats unlocking every cross class skill except Stealth, as well as investing in the gear head line. Computer Use and Repair are super important for the droid companions, and just in general. Planning to prestige in Jedi Watchman for those sweet sneak attacks, which I think are auto with Force Jump hits. Just got to the surface of Telos and she's pretty weak still in combat, but she's gonna get enough feats now to make up for it I think, unlike if you tried to go skill based with the Consular. I just figured I'd try something different. I almost always start Sentinel, lol. It's hard to change it up. So I barely did. Side note: Dualing a single saber is good if you wanna play the tank of your party and focus on defense. It's not just an aesthetic choice. Or, if you play a Consular (and/or prestige variant), and you're not using your saber anyway, so why not make it a shield instead? Also, a blaster build for the Exile (and Atton for that matter) is hella fun. Rapid Shot, two pistols, that feat line that makes it harder or impossible for your shots to be reflected back, Force powers to buff yourself/stun lock enemies, and so on. Also adds to the Exile lore that they just won't use a lightsaber anymore as it's a sort of past life for them. I generally don't bother holding off on starting levels for more Jedi levels with my companions. I think of their Jedi levels as complimenting their original class rather than taking over entirely. A lot of their Force powers are just self buffs so they're more self sufficient in combat. I also don't like to meta game, knowing they'll become Jedi when in universe they don't know until it happens. But I can see the benefits of holding off for them if you just want more Jedi on your squad.
Hey, I just want you to know that I really appreciate this video! Not only is it super informative, it's also just really well produced, and as a result is a great watch.
Thank you very much for the kind words! I really appreciate you taking the time to give me some feedback on the video. It makes me super happy that they are being enjoyed. I'm trying my best to sound more natural and not like I am reading something lol Hopefully they will keep improving! :)
After absorbing some of these videos I’m ready to redo my play through, i didn’t expect such a jump in mechanics from the first game so I went in blind. Knowing I can turn companions to Jedi, alignments changes and so many skill tweaks changes my whole mentality on how I wanna play. So thanks for all this easy enjoyable information. I do have a question, what do you prefer on a cross class play through? Guardian/Sith Lord or Consular/Marauder?
Happy to hear the videos have been helpful! I personally like Consualr/Jedi Weapons Master. You get the big force point pool for Force Powers, then you can always focus on lightsaber attacks and the bones Two Weapon fighting perks. I also really enjoy Force Jump.
14:43 haha, same, me too. I always end up coming to kotor no matter what. Its a really great game, How I wish if there is a remake, they will stick to same gameplay but better and improvise and not change it into fallen order style. Learn a lot of watching this video
Glad the video was helpful! Yes I agree. If done correctly, a remaster would be widely popular and loved. Like a new game engine and graphical overhaul, but mechanics and gameplay stayed the same. I would pre order that for sure lol I really enjoyed Fallen Order but it was more of a hack and slash. Would have been super cool if the included more RPG and quest elements. Cooler character story arcs too!
Glad to see this video in my recommended. Reminds me that it's time to boot up this classic game again. When I first discovered that I could turn many of my companions into Jedi or Sith, it blew my mind and instantly shot this game up to my favorite Star Wars game.
Great video, my favorite class for a dark side character is Consular / Sith Lord, because of the Force Storm + Force Potency combo that I love to use, it makes me feel like Darth Sidious, and for a light side character, Sentinel / Jedi Watchman, because of the balanced stats of HP and FP and the Niman lightsaber form, which is one of my favorite forms, may the force be with you.
We are one in the same lol Consular/Sith Lord is my favorite choice as well. Taking waves of enemies down with a few Force Power casts is a great feeling. I like playing as Guardian class too cuz lightsabers have always been fascinating to me. Just recently starting giving the Sentinel class some love and they are all solid choices. They did a great job with the class structuring in what strengths each class gets.
Dual-wielding increases your damage output by letting you use more power crystals and lightsaber parts, so it really is a sign of strength - not weaknesss
@Don Fresh Duel Wielding is more for the unconventionalists (Like Kun, Krayt, Vintress, Bastila, Grevious and others). Me personally, Duel Wielding is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of Genius Intellect. As it is quite difficult to master Duel Wielding and Saberstaffs compared to the single blade due to the multi-tasking involved in using them. Also, the ones using them are mostly Pioneers and Trail-Blazers, individuals who naturally or just by their own choice, stand out as cut offs from a different cloth from the Masses both in their own unique styles of combat all the way up to the highest being of their very person. So Duel Wielding is not a cowardice, but a sign of brilliance and acknowledgement that there is a need for them to have extra developed tricks in case they are overwhelmed by more conventional styles of combat Imo 👍🏾!
Great video man! Mira is the most busted companion in this game. Make her a Jedi before ever leveling her up, so she gets the most force powers. Max blaster stats and get her some upgraded mandalorian disentegrators. She will have skills comparable to T3, she will melt enemies in 1 turn (even on hard difficulty), and she can spam buffs. On top of that shes really stealthy and doesn't trip mines. OP
For sure! I give her a saber if I don't level her up before converting her. If I level her up a little bit I definitely give her a pair of blasters. She is a really good blaster support character. I will have to give her some more love in my playthroughs as I usually pick Atton as my main companion since he can get up mid battle. I will have to test her out with your build tips!
I always go double bladed with maxed strength bonuses restored content mod, looks awesome but that's just my preference, awesome vids love watching them to see the community still going strong
Thank you very much! Double bladed is a solid choice. I prefer dual sabers but once in a while I like to equip the double bladed and use that for a while. The Kotor community is very strong! A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!
5:37 You should only grab Lightsaber Finesse if your character has way higher Dex than Strength. If you're already a Strength-based fighter, this will be a waste of a feat. 6:18 Power Strike has no defense penalty, its downside is an accuracy penalty on your attack roll that turn. It's a "safer" way to deal big damage. 8:22 Force Valor is more than just decent. A flat bonus to all of your Attributes is huge. Directly affects all of your party's combat strengths, and can allow you to pass skill checks you'd otherwise fail, like slicing, security, repairs and even carries into dialogue if you skip through to make the check before the effect runs out. 17:00 I can understand your reasoning there, but I find that a party comprised purely of Jedi can be... homogenous to a fault. Bao-Dur gains way less Skill Points once he becomes a Jedi Guardian, for example, and I like having someone along who can both fight decently and handle all the tech stuff. To each his own, I guess. Overall, pretty good guide. An interesting cross-class combo is starting as Consular for the higher DC for your Force powers, then going Watchman/Assassin for Sneak Attack. The bonus damage applies to enemies who are incapacitated, so you can more easily paralyze all enemies with Force Wave or Insanity, and then deliver insane damage with your lightsaber while they're held in place. Somewhat unrelated, but people seem to really sleep on the Battle Precognition feat that the Handmaiden gives you pretty early on. It can allow you to make a Strength-based Guardian that still has devastating Force powers by dumping Dex. That way, Wisdom serves as your Defense modifier, and awards you very good Force power DCs for a well-rounded combat monster of a Jedi. Leave all the techy stuff to your companions, Kreia's full of sh*t.
I did leave out some of the really good ones. I am considering going back over some of the better ones I slept on a little bit. You are correct about Finesse. I have read about a surprising amount of players that get Finesse and then just sleep on Strength so blasters work well for them. Which is valid strategy but does miss out some damage multipliers later on. I didn't realize that for Power Attack so I appreciate you letting me know. You make a great point with Force Valor. Seems to be a great Force Power to have in your arsenal. I totally understand your point on companions and keeping them as their original class, but I still really love getting as many Jedi as possible. They make for great fail safes when an OP main ins't enough. I will have to experiment on a playthrough without turning them into Jedi as fast as possible. I will also try out the Consular/Assassin sneak tactic and Handmaiden's Battle Precognition a little bit more. Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate the comment and pointing these things out. I have learned a lot from people taking the time to explain things a little better so it will help me when returning the favor to others. I also really enjoyed the ending sentence to your comment! :)
I agree with the dual wielding thing, I forgot the crystal name but I had it in kotor 1 it had a chance to stun the enemy. Put one on each saber and it was wraps.
No problem! Glad you are enjoying them. I'm so glad they made it available for the xbox one. If you have Steam, they will do a sale for Christmas and they usually discount all the old classics like this one to just a few bucks!
Also, save a feat and don't get the one that regens vitality. There are armor/clothing upgrades that'll do that for you. I'm pretty sure even Battle Meditation will do it for awhile. Definitely want the feat that regens Force points if you're not a Consular though. Early game is rough waiting on that pool to come back.
Nice! You are going to love it! Still great when not playing the PC version. I recommend PC version for the restored content and the ability to mod the hell out of it lol but you will still get the amazing story from any version.
I moderately disagree regarding Watchman/Assassin. It's worth noting that Sneak Attack doesn't just trigger when you're sneaking up on an enemy-- it triggers when your opponent isn't able to fight back. That means it triggers on opponents who are suffering from Statis Field, Insanity, Force Wave, etc. Insanity + Master Speed + Flurry + Sneak Attack can easily put out in the neighborhood of 200 damage per round to a single target.
Very true! I have given much love to Sneak Attack since making this video. Can confirm it can be a beast move. Super fun to stasis everyone and knock them down before they can retaliate!
Single saber is good because there is less feats needed to make it good and you start with no penalties to hit. To be good with Two Weapon Fighting you need all of the feats to minimize penalties. My KotOR I Consular has Single Saber with Keen and Massive Critical upgrades with Dueling 3 and MCS 3 so I crit on 11+ and still have high enough to hit to confirm the critical. That's all the melee feats I need when I'm not casting. Does like 12-32 + 2-12 for a total of 14-44 damage half of the time and 6-16 the other half.
You make some good points. You wouldn't need so many feats with single saber. I can say most of my feat go into 2 weapon fighting or something that helps with the penalties. I will have to give single saber a go when I do my next playthrough and see how many other feats I can get when I'm not trying to fix my penalties.
Just played through and beat kotor 1 again, and am about to start 2, its been so long since ive played the 2nd game tho and i've never beaten it since i played the game as a kid initially and i didn't understand the mechanics very well, so i feel like i softlocked myself at a couple of the early game checks lol. This was an amazing video though well done. even years later
@Haunter_1616 Thank you for the kind words. I know exactly what you mean. I softlocked myself several times playing as a kid. I think I was building my character incorrectly not understanding the mechanics. But planets like Korriban and Nar Shaada can still softlock you if you aren't familiar with what will be thrown at you next. Recommend not doing those planets first so you can level your character.
And as you said about that its better to give all jedi in the party two lightsabers to make their damage output insane, you should give to all long range guys two blasters so that with all upgrades their will unleash laser rain upon the enemy, i just love the HK rapid shot fire animation when he is with 2 blasters.
I generally always put all my skill points in treat injury and persuade. Then I auto level my companions and use them to do skill based things. I find auto levelling them is just easier and it allows me to roleplay that I'm using the skills that character canonically has.
Loved being op but most fun for me was sentinel to weapon master. Once I was jumping across the screen. I was a jedi on freaking energy drink I would solo missions it was crazy fun.
Lol this game is absolutely amazing!! I love the ability to go with any class and just wreck enemies! I need to give the Sentinel path another playthrough. Force Jump is so much to use too!
Just started another playthrough and the last time I played I tried to go full on force since I was mainly using lightsabers before and I wanted variety, plus I wanted a challenge and the class was said to be for experienced players (little did I know it's damn OP). My favorite was to stasis the hell out of everyone, so this time I'll go consular -> watchmen, since it has a lot of big improvements for someone already skilled in the force AND SNEAK ATTACK, baby! Dude, stasis plus flurry with force speed with dual wielding lightsabers... I'm just sad at what my enemies will have to face at this point. Boy, do I love character building! Btw, the idea came from the point in Nar Shadaa where I realised how quickly Atton melts through enemies after I stasis them. If he can do it with just two little pew-pews on hard difficulty... Force save us all.
Very much agreed! Character building in this game is way ahead of its time. I will have to give that build strategy a whirl next time I run through. I was also surprised by how OP the Consular class can become. Makes you feel like a beast when you just raise your hand a few times and waves of enemies drop lol
I always start at Sentinel to get the skill points, but go to Weapon Master at 15. Going through the early mine fields and a few other things are worth being a little weaker at first. Especially if you go 14s on your first 4 stats.
09/16/2020- hurricane sally has taken the power here in NW Florida. I’m sitting on my apartment patio, playing KOTOR 2 on a generator run Xbox and monitor while the wind whips around. Found your video and it’s been a godsend. Never forget!
Holy shit!! Mad lad 2020 goes to you my friend! That is an incredible story lol I will tell my kids about this XD but hope things are going well for you in all that hurricane mess. As long as you got shelter and food, definitely get some Kotor in to escape the craziness! Best wishes! :)
When i play i go Sentinel sith lord light side. I abuse moza in telos and get ds prestige then choose ls options but go with vaklu and kill the masters while being an otherwise good guy in everything else. I make all bonuses 0 rather than negative, max intel then charisma at the start, then get enough int to max all skills, then dump into a plus 1 bonus on everything and as much con as possible to make a versatile leader. Double bladed lightsabers and force capable armor. Force storm is awesome. Wave is great. So is death feild.
I'm actually doing the Cross Class Strategy with a Jedi Guardian and Jedi Master! I'm like an Eldritch Jedi Knight, wielding Lightning and two lightsabers!
CatDaddy Gaming Also, I would've figured you would say that Stasis Field would be the equivalent of Force Insanity, considering that they both hold enemies in place.
Finally bought the game and I said I wanted to experience the game on it's purest form and it didnt end well... it didn't end straight up, couldnt go beyond Nar Shaddaa. I followed your video and I guess playing like a monke isnt the best way to play the game, thanks for all the tips man
Sorry to hear that my friend. What made you stop on Nar Shaddaa? Maybe I could give some helpful tips if you having a hard time progressing through the planet. Nar Shaddaa is one of the more difficult planets. I feel Lightsaber combat focused playthroughs are the most popular but I always enjoyed the Force Power focused playthroughs better.
@CatDaddy Gaming Well, since I didn't know what I was doing I spent skills and feat points on all the wrong choices, my build was all over the place. I had Kreia using blasters and Atton with tons of stealth points, and the rest of the crew were kinda the same. Also it didn't helped I chose Nar Shaddaa as my first planet so I had not a single lightsaber. When I made it to Goto's yacht I simply couldn't make it to the exile and died by droid blaster fire. It was so sad, but looking back it was pretty funny, lol.
@@PurpleDrink1 Ah yeah. That will definitely make it very challenging if you don't get the best feats and skills for the companions. I usually hit Nar Shaddaa first but only for the lightsaber parts and companions stuff. Then I will bounce and come back later. Goto's Yacht is super hard even when you have all the stuff you need. Your realize how powerful your main character is when you have to rely on companions that you haven't put as much love into lol definitely helps out a bunch if you have Jedi coming for you on the yacht.
Just finished a dark side consular/marauder play through after seeing this video after it was new (I didn't play very often), dual wielding 2 lightsabers. I utterly destroyed everything late game even though it was slightly harder than other things in the early game. I never ran out of force points, the powers were rarely saved against and my lightsabers dealt loads of damage.
The only thing I’ll add is dual weild vs double sided dual is less damage. For one you’ll have one saber much stronger than the other with two separate rolls as where you’ll have the same crystals and mods modifying the main and off hand swings.
I have not thought about waiting for them to be Jedi 🤣 I always just sent it right away and didn’t wait. Now I want to play it again and try to hold off for as long as I can
In Star Wars KOTOR my favorite build is Scout/Jedi Consular. I get the skills I need to get through the game without relying on my companions too much, I get to repair HK-47 enough to get his story before hitting the Leviathan, and I’m over powered to point of mowing down enemies with my double bladed light saber or spamming them with my force powers. In Star Wars KOTOR 2 my favorite build would have to be Jedi Sentinel/Jedi Master for pretty much the same reasons. After all there are points in the game where you are going solo and can’t rely on companions all the time.
My first time playing through I made a Guardian/Sith Lord. By the end game in the Trayus Academy, it was so satisfying clearing out rooms of several enemies with the Dark Side of the Force and without even drawing my lightsaber.
This is how I play most of the time. I will try to stay to melee only but Force Storm is always plan B when the health starts dropping. Or if I die and haven't saved for a while. Just Force Strom my way back to where I was before I died lol. Very OP!
Hey man, thanks for the breakdown of this game! Total newbie to it since I just got a gaming PC recently; already beat the first one and I think I’m in love. Wanted to clarify, do two-handed weapons feats apply to using a double-bladed lightsaber? Wanting my first run to be a LS Guardian/WM and I’ve got a major thing for double-bladed haha. Just makin sure I’m doin it right!
Very nice! I hope you are enjoying it and haven't spoiled the story looking at forums online. The story is really good!! I would love to wipe my memory and play through it for the first time again. Yes you are correct. Two-handed feats will for sure help dual bladed. The two-weapon feats help with the off hand attack, which is usually when you have a second weapon in the other hand. The double bladed weapons do have an off hand attack on them so I am pretty sure those two-weapon fighting feats will also help you rocking a dual bladed saber. If it benefits your off hand then it should be helpful to you!
Subbed! This game is major nostalgia for me. Just got KOTOR 2 again. I’m staying away from KOTOR 1 as I remember the game story was good. But it took too long to get a lightsaber. I want the action now! Lol
Thank you! That is very much appreciated. The game is a classic. I agree with you there. Even getting your lightsaber in Kotor 2 can take a few hours. I don't like to mod it into the beginning of the game, I like to earn it lol!
probably my favorite build is running a guardian with two lightsabers and finesse and just having really high dex. I also like using flurry because with the offhand light saber you get a total of 3 attacks plus if you have maxed out force speed you get a fourth. edit: I completely forgot about the fury skill from sith marauder giving an extra attack on top of that lol.
There is a power that makes entering stealth easier, might be called "mind trick", so using sneak attack blaster bolts and mind trick to run and hide is a viable build
you forgot to mention a very important detail that was pretty hard to wrap my head around the first time I heard: "attack" doesn't mean damage, but chance to hit.
I definitely park atton at low level until Jedi. But I like leveling handmaiden up to 14 or 15 to maximize all the feats that she gets. She’s more of a damage dealer so she only really needs a handful of force powers.
I know it's an old video for an even older game, but a few things about skills I didn't hear you cover in the Character Creation section; - Repair also determines how many components you get for breaking down items, and further into the game it is absolutely necessary in order to fully maximise upgradable weaponry as the difference between high and low repair is a factor of many hundreds of components from a single item, but also bear in mind that when using a bench with a party (ie; not on your ship) the skills of the character who interacted with the bench are used for creating and breaking down, so your MC's skills in this regard won't always be important. - This is less aimed at beginners as some prior knowledge of the game's sequences helps here, but Demolitions + Stealth can be used to completely cheese many otherwise-challenging packs of enemies by placing mines in front of their noses whilst stealthed before entering combat, and just a few points in demolitions can allow you to set up gross amounts of low-cost low-impact mines around an NPC before triggering a scripted combat (you don't need big damage mines when you can just use more mines instead, so low skill level works but you need _some_ skill in it. **MINOR SPOILERS** Mine cheese is especially useful for consular/master/lord MCs when fighting handmaiden in unarmed combat for her storyline as you can't do this on another companion, plus you can set up mines in the bar on NS before triggering the final story sequence where Atton gets ambushed by the assassins, for a much easier time). It's ugly, it's slow, but it _is_ effective. - As mentioned above (and later in your video), your companions' skills will cover most of your lock-opening and crafting needs for 90% of the game. Skills that are especially useful for a MC are ones that open up the most frequent dialogue options and these are (in order of usefulness); Persuade, Repair, Awareness, Computer, and the rest. Bear in mind that ALL skills except Stealth are used in a conversation-check at least once at some point in the game. Primary stats like Intelligence, and to a lesser extent Wisdom, can also open up some conversation options - if you want good influence with Kreia for example, then high Intelligence+Awareness is almost a must. Also bear in mind that, just like workbenches, if you initiate a conversation with a character who is not the MC, the game will act as if it is the MC who is conversing, but skillchecks will be made against _whoever initiated the conversation._ The third point I mentioned is the most important, as the strongest aspect of this game is IMO the dialogue and story, and it's surprising how Computer+Repair are solicited in conversation almost as often as Persuade is, although they are quite often interchangeable (you will get a prompt for both, but a successful check on either will yield the same response) so you don't necessarily want to invest in both. Quick Note: While saving levels on Force-Sensitive companions is a great idea for some of your companions, it really isn't for Atton - Atton gets Sneak Attack from the start, which you described as working from stealth or from behind but it _also_ gets applied to stunned or incapped enemies. In fact it only works at close range from stealth or behind (making it more of a melee feat) but against stunned targets the range is unlimited. As he gets this from the beginning of the game, it will reach a very impressive damage multiplier by the time he is Scoundrel lvl19+, and converting him to Jedi Sentinel will *stop him from getting any more levels in sneak attack for the rest of the game.* Using fully upgraded dual "Keen" Mando Rippers or Disintegrators gives him a base 15-20 crit threat range, which becomes a near-guaranteed crit with Master Sniper Shot, that will also *stun the enemy when it hits* allowing you to follow up with some Master Repeater Shots that will all get sneak attack bonuses as well as likely a few more crits in there. Sneak attack damage isn't multiplied by crit multiplier so continuing to use sniper shot on a stunned enemy is overall a damage loss, but this combo is without a doubt the HIGHEST overall damage to a single target in a single round _in the game._ Atton is a _much_ better blaster build than he is a saber-figher or team-buffer, and not even T3 or Mira can touch him as dual-pistol builds thanks to Sneak Attack, and coupled with a strong consular MC who can buff him and ensure stuns get onto enemies with high saves he's the perfect addition to a team with Handmaiden or Mandalore/Hanharr as a melee tank. As a side-note, it's also not a _bad_ idea to keep Mira using blasters after she becomes a Jedi, and just take advantage of the extra attacks from Master Speed. The characters you really want to "Jedify" asap are Handmaiden (assuming no unarmed meme build), Disciple, and most of all Bao-Dur (unless you are using him as a skills-bot, but there are actual bots who are better suited for that). Otherwise great video that I hope will help a new generation of RPGers appreciate this absolute classic.
Thank you very much! I believe I read that on Reddit a little while ago too, but yes you are totally correct. Why waste the feat point on a feat you already have right? The only problem I have is Lightsaber finesse sounds cooler than melee finesse so I want the Lightsaber one more lol XD
Haven’t played KOTOR 2 but for KOTOR the only skills I truly leveled up were persuade (a must id argue) and Treat Injury. I had persuade in the high 20’s and treat injury in the mid teens
My favorite play through I do is only using a blaster pistol. I find it much more fun. The exile becomes a smuggler or mercenary after their exile, refusing to use a light saber again. This is my preferred play through
That's awesome! The fact that the game lets you do that is the reason I love this game. Replayability is endless when you try out different scenarios. I am currently doing a blaster build Jedi playthrough cuz other have told me how much fun it is. I got distracted after a little bit but I plan to finish that playthrough here soon.
@@CatDaddyGaming it is fun! I think my next play through I might try something crazy and only use a blaster. My normal blaster play through I let myself use the force but just imagine the difficulty of not using the force at all
@@lemonlord0132 That sounds like it would be quite the challenge without any Force Powers to fall back on. After that next challenge play through is Hand to Hand Combat only. No weapons or blasters lol! Have heard of others trying this route but never braved it myself.
Oh I forgot to ask, are you planning on playing jedi fallen order? If so, can we expect any videos from it? Once again thanks for the mod recommendations for kotor 2 from a comment a few months back, finally got around to starting my second playthrough on the game :)
@@ThePartySquid Hey sorry I am just barely seeing this, (damn UA-cam) lol I do want to make some more videos for Fallen Order but I still haven't beaten it yet XD, plan to this weekend though! No problem at all, glad to help out! I am working on a Kotor 2 Modding video right now so hopefully I'll have that out this by Friday, and it will have some good side by side comparisons and recommendations.
I tend to favor sentinels for the extra skill points as skills are key in the game. I start by dumping str, putting 14 in all other attributes. I try to hit 18 con ASAP, so first two increases go to con and then I'll use Hanharr and HK to get the last +2. For other increases you are free to choose dex, wis or cha. Start evil to get Hanharr but go light for the personal crystal to get extra wisdom over the charisma from dark side crystal. Handmaiden helps give you extra mileage from wis by allowing it to grant extra defense per wis modifier. Also light side sentinel prestige gets extra saving throws per level over sith assassin, but fails to get demolitions as a skill in trade-off - easy choice. Head to Onderon to get the guaranteed Ossus Keeper Robes ASAP, +2 cha and +4 int and wis is juicy, I tend to consider it the best robe Hope to get either Circlet of Saresh (light side) for +5 wis or Force Focusing Visor for +1 cha, +4 wis and +2 force regen Either Improved Automation Gloves for +5 dex and some skills or Jal Shey Meditation Gloves for +2 dex and wis and some extra awareness There's a few good belts but I prefer Qel-Droma Belt for +1 cha and wis and some force dmg immunities or any stealth belt that can get either +3 or +4 dex (+3 has +1 defense as well, which is better if you have an odd numbered dex to begin with) Also of course hoping to land the Universal D Implant for +2 to all attributes (need 18 PERMANENT con to equip), otherwise mental boost D package for +3 to all non-physical attributes, Quickness for +4 dex and +1 def, or Immortality for +3 con and all toughness feats. Usually go single lightsaber since there's not a lot of good attribute crystals around. Also dual wielding doesn't fit in my class fantasy. I get Hanharr always, never say no to free +1 con and +3 wis, or +2 con, +1 wis and + 2str if u like str builds I guess.. Also repair HK-47 ASAP, you get +1 con and wis once you hit certain alignment thresholds to open his dialogues And fixing T3-M4 also nets you +1 wis, on top of giving T3 A BUNCH of extra attributes himself That's a permanent extra +2 con and +5 wis for your player-character, or +3 con +2 str and +3 wis if you chose to accept the lesson of strength, but since strength only benefits damage and to-hit chances with melee I'll always dump it in favor of dex, since dex does that too with finesse minus extra damage, but you also get defense, saving throws and skills from dex. You end up with an insanely wicked machine of a jedi. High HP and Force pool, insane defense, huge to-hit chance, all three saving throws are crazy high, you have skills for days, DC of your force powers is through the roof, high charisma for dialogue goodness, you can stealth super easily, all your healing is increased a lot due to your wisdom even with medpacks - True self-reliance. Kreia would be proud. Only tweak I'd ever consider is to maybe start as guardian to get force jump, as force jump gets a free sneak attack proc. But I generally consider that subpar compared to the losses of not being sentinel.
Dark Side Consular is probably my favorite! Force Lightning can feel cheap sometimes but it really helps you push through the more difficult areas! You also get the really clever remarks from HK when you are Darkside too!
I like that there is a new video on this game but i feel there is one thing that you may be underestimating, putting a blaster build on main char. Dual wielding blasters with rapid fire with force speed just mows down enemies before they even get to you and if you get "finesse lightsaber" feat(dex applies to both range and light-saber attack bonus) you can still handle enemies if they can even get to you and just hit "switch weapons" or force wave them away. Now, I will admit its not as optimal as just going pure melee and I find myself having to use the work bench more fore optimization but it definitely is viable and faster cause you dont have to waste time walking to enemies. (unless you get force jump) other than that great video and I also save levels for when they can become Jedi. p.s yes this works even on hardest difficulty.
I agree with some of the points you made. Blaster building can sometimes get OP with upgrades and correct leveling. When I'm in a pinch I bring HK47 or T3M4 cuz I have them built straight dual blaster and they wreck lol. What I can't bring myself to do is build both blaster and lightsaber (melee). Primarily being that I want the lightsaber lol I love being a lightsaber master. There is obviously nothing wrong with playing the game that way. I just don't feel it worth it to sacrifice attributes and feats towards blasters if you still want to game with the lightsaber. Going only blaster build would no doubt give you no issue, I just don't play the game that way as Jedi usually rock the lightsaber. I do intend on doing a blaster build video. I just planned on doing it for the companions and not for the MC. You are right though and do make some good points. I just don't like to play blaster builds on my Jedi Main Character. A friend in my discord is thinking about going through the game weaponless. lol not ideal but he has some pretty good plans for building in mind. I love this game cuz you can play however you want to and still do good if you are smart about your leveling! :)
@@CatDaddyGaming yeah I know what you mean and I agree playing with lightsaber feels the coolest lol, oh jeez an unarmed build XD. I hope your friends RNG is good cause you need special unarmed gauntlets lol but if they can find some and dont mind that there is no battle animation when facing someone (unless they are also unarmed) then it's a fun challenging run through. And yeah I like how the game let's you do any build you want! I think the worst run through I did was plasma torch as my main weapon, I still used force powers cause I'm not that masochistic lol
I played this game years bk had forgotten alot, i found if played correctly your character can reach above 1000 vitality an force 1000, also there is a glitch on the mandalorian moon when your defending the mandalorians an you can earn unlimited exp, i found death field to be the best against lots of opponents because it drains their lives an feeds your own, i had fun using this ability on malachor vs sith lords
I have my Atton and Mira as blaster weilding force users; Master Speed into rapid shots, melts almost anything. My Jedi is upfront soaking up damage; Sentinel/Guardian--> Weapon Master. Atton and Mira doubles as healers as well. Because it makes sense story wise, the Exile is only teaching them how to use the force; They don't have to become a Jedi or Sith.
Lol very glad you like them! I try to incorporate them into every video. It can be super frustrating to have to scrub the entire video for a 10 sec clip!
depending who I use the most is put to be Jedi but the weird part is even with the TSLRM mod, the jedi all have one thing in common with storm troops, they cant hit for crap lol. Only thing that seems to hit for melee jedi is flurry but otherwise your better off going ranged jedi with powers rather then going melee, Just deflect bolts alot and let them kill themselves, then you can force storm to your hearts content.
Oh and to somewhat prevent your teammates from running like dumbasses turn them to stationary instead of aggressive and turn solo mode on before you initiate an attack, helps with the headache if anyone still has that problem
Thank you very much for saying so. I totally forgot you could set them to stationary. I was using only solo mode for a while. Switching them to stationary helped out very much when I was recently playing the mobile version. Cheers!
Overall, good video! But there were a couple of things that I felt were left out/definitely need to be changed: 1) Lightsaber finesse doesn’t combine your strength and dexterity into your lightsaber attack modifier. It just chooses between either dexterity or strength based on which one is higher (normally it is only determined by strength). Aka this is useful only in the unique situation where your DEX is higher than your STR. Definitely not an essential or always applicable. I always pour into STR and leave DEX low because strength also makes your damage of each hit higher 2) You say that force lightning is the most OP power in the game, but just quickly pass over Master speed. IMO master speed is by far the best force power in the game. You gain 2 additional melee attacks PER ROUND. That is huge! Late in the game, you can kill any normal enemy in just 1 round because you can hit them 4 times ( with 2 weapons) or 5 times (with flurry). If you have power attack, the damage goes even higher. Force lightning almost always takes 3+ times to clear a few enemies and isn’t very useful against bosses. Master speed is incredibly useful in all situations and should never be overlooked I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts or if I’m wrong on either of these!
I definitely agree with everything you are saying. I personally never go for finesse, and put it all towards strength. There is a very large chunk of players though that prefer to play with blasters and in that scenario it would be beneficial if you rocked blasters but had a lightsaber as your backup. So I decided to cover the feat for those players. In hindsight I do wish I put Master Speed in there cuz you are totally right on it being a great power. I rarely use it in battle cuz I hate how it gets all blurry. Always use it for faster traveling though. I still believe though that Force Storm is the most OP. I usually build myself Consular focused on Force Powers. I can clear waves of enemies with 1 cast of Force Storm on my last planet and the last level. I feel super cheap using it towards the end. So I definitely agree with everything you pointed out, but I still firmly believe Force Storm is most OP and can get to a level of being unfair lol
CatDaddy Gaming yeah lightsaber finesse totally has its place! For people who really focus on force, using DEX as your only physical attribute instead of CON and STR, it can be useful. I’m not totally sure on this, but I feel like the blurriness of master speed is terrible in KOTOR 2, but not bad in Kotor 1. How is force lightning calculated in the games? Isn’t it just randomly 10-60 (1-6 per level up to 10 levels)? I guess for me that’s never been enough to kill all the little opponents in 1 hit. Cause it’s damage doesn’t improve as you level up or as your wisdom, charisma, etc improve, right? Or am I misunderstanding how it’s damage is calculated?
@@strider3164 I plan on playing Kotor 1 again real soon so I will have to check that. I have never sat down and done the math, DC stuff always confuses me but I am pretty sure it is 1-6 per level with no level cap, something about attacker level. At least according to the wiki page. So if attacker level is 30 it should be base damage of 30-180. And that doesn't include DC stuff. DC will increase as you level up Wisdom and Charisma. My highest attributes are always Charisma and Wisdom when I am going Consular Force Power route since this plays a huge role in the DC for Force Powers. And then to get the last extra boost on it, the force form Force Potency increases Force Power damage by 30%. Enemy will saves will cut the damage in half but you could boost your character to be better against those. I am going to test Master Speed more though cuz I rarely use it in combat and now I want to test it out and maybe play the whole playthough using it to see how it goes.
CatDaddy Gaming Yes, i was thinking of how it’s capped at level 10 in KOTOR 1, which makes its absolute max 10-60. Kotor 2 removed this cap, giving it no upper limit. Which made it just good in Kotor 1, but pretty insane in Kotor 2. But I don’t think DC applies to attack damage of force lightning, right? Doesn’t DC only change the chance for it to hit? Again, might be different for kotor 1 and 2. Also, i believe kotor 2 has a mod to reduce blurriness of master speed. And if you are doing master speed, just be sure to pour into strength/get some good strength modifying gear. I find it very fun to deal 100+ damage per round with a lightsaber towards the end of either game
@@strider3164 It can definitely get a little insane at some points. And yeah I don't think DC will affect damage output, but insanely higher DC will ensure they always get hit the first time and will help counter against them saving from it. I certainly will, I had been wanting to do a Weapons Master playthrough and that should pair nicely with high strength and Master Speed.
I used to do consular/battle master which screamed joda to me as he was just that. A Jedi master/consular powerfull in force and awesome weapon master due to him using Ataru lightsaber form
Scrolled down to see if someone mentioned this but did not see it so everyone please know this, Melee finesse and lightsaber finesse do not stack. This is important to know because melee finesse applies to lightsabers as well, this means that getting both Feats is pointless and a waste of a feat if your going to get a finesse feat get melee finesse and that is it. Feats can be scarce and you need to choose accordingly so don't waste a feat on lightsaber finesse.
You are 100% correct. I should have made it a point to go over this in the video. Definitely don't get both. I am weird and I hold off on getting melee finesse and get lightsaber finesse instead. I know they both do the same thing but I like lightsaber finesse more cuz it sounds cooler lol
@@CatDaddyGaming I get it lol, in any case for all followers at least get the melee that way if they are not force users yet then you can at least start giving them some great melee options
I'm so glad people still care about this awesome game. Thank you for your explanations!

Thx for the info Im ready for kotor 2 moblie
This is my Star Wars
I wish this game had prestige classes for grey users :(
Ive always loved how the story really hints at you benefiting the most from being a grey user but the mechanics of the game really does tend to force you to get extreme one side or another for Powah :(
That says a lot about our society
im usually light grey
to use dark or the opposite just amp up charisma to neutralize the recoil.....i could see using dark force powers corrupting you if you have low wisdom/charisma, intelligence.....i wanna create a main grey order something like the imperial knights
^ This right here! :) Thanks for pointing that out! I will have to try this dual wisdom charisma boost method you speak of!
I also don't level up any Jedi companions either until they are converted to Jedi. It makes Telos more fun and most of Nar Shadar.

Nothing wrong with old games, they tend to be a gold mine of interesting ideas/mechanics from a more experimental age.
5:41 Finesse: Melee Weapons also affects lightsabers. The lightsaber finesse is a wasted feat
Very much agreed! Very silly of them to have those feats do the same thing.
@Lie Ren No they don’t stack, the feats more so just enable a mechanic rather than just adding attack. Can’t really enable it twice.
The finesse lightsaber wasn’t properly setup and kinda became wasteful.
Wait, then what about the proficiency feats? Can I stack the bonuses from both melee weapons and lightsabers?
@@fireblast8972 Now that I’m not sure of. That’d be very good if it did. +4 to attack for melee weapons and +2 for sabers with both weapon focus and specialization for both.
@@aidenheinz4237 agreed. It would eat a lot of feat points, but if it's true, this would make most feats obsolete with hpw much dps you can put out
Great guide, but I have to disagree on three things:
1) I wouldn't recommend it for beginners but a gunslinger jedi playthrough is very fun, worth trying out
2) flurry is the clear winner of melee feats, power attack and crit attack can be viable at the start but by the time you get a saber you can deal so much damage with a single attack that having one more gives way more damage than the power attack bonus, 3E simple wasn't balanced around the numbers KOTOR2 reaches
3) there's no clear winner between dual wielding and saberstaff in my opinion thanks to random drops on most best crystals - if you want stack attribute bonuses then dual wield since those bonuses stack regardless of source, but if you want to get best damage then you pick your most damaging gems and put them into a saberstaff so that all your attacks have the best bonuses

I’ve played KOTOR 2 my whole life and have no need for this video, but I just really enjoy watching your vids
Legit haven't played this game in about 12 or 13 years. About to start playing it again with a whole lota new knowledge
I haven't played this game since 1 week ago. I don't know how I could miss kotor since I am a huge rpg fan.
However:
1) When playing as a Jedi Sentinel, I always select the Class-Skill Demolitions and Class-Skill Repair feats first.
Still playing em both, absolutely love this game and love that there's still content out for it
Now that it's out on Switch, I'm playing it again.
Just came back to this game after finishing kotor 1 and man has it been fun. 20yrs on and these games still kick ass
Lightsaber finesse is redundant. Never take it. Melee finesse does vibroblades and lightsabers.
Leaving Atton as a scoundrel for a while is nice to grab up the sneak attacks
4 years later and Im still ignoring new games to replay this. Fantastic video dude!
Why thank you! Yeah this one is a good one. Rarely does a game age as well as this.
I think I realized my favorite build is probably a Sentinel/Marauder combo. Yet there are still others I haven't tried :).
Very informative video! I might keep all this in mind when I do my KOTOR 2 LP.
Holding a dual weapon is like joining the dark side.
It is a sign of weakness
LOL! Best counter argument I've seen to dual wielding. You make a very good point, all the top tier Jedi never needed more than one!
Kavar on Onderon?
Dual-wielding increases your damage output by letting you use more power crystals and lightsaber parts, so it really is a sign of strength - not weaknesss
@@Oodelally Use the force
I just beat the first kotor game and I'm about to begin the second one. Thankyou so much for this guide!!!
@@Dactylic-wv7zg Nice! Would love to be able to experience it for the first time again!
Every second year or so I come back to this game, and I always go Consular/weapon master. Crazy force storms and sick lightsaber skills :D
Want to say thanks for your work on this game, you've made a huge repository of knowledge
Thanks man this is my faveorite game of all time. I’m about to buy it again for my Xbox one.
No problem! Glad you are enjoying them. I'm so glad they made it available for the xbox one. If you have Steam, they will do a sale for Christmas and they usually discount all the old classics like this one to just a few bucks!
CatDaddy Gaming I will have to look at it up !
Got this game on iOS, mirror it to my tv and play with a PlayStation controller. Don’t even need that reboot this game is so good!
Very nice! That's definitely an awesome way to do it. What reboot you referring to??
I'd like it to be able to use a blaster pistol and light saber at the same time
Also, save a feat and don't get the one that regens vitality. There are armor/clothing upgrades that'll do that for you. I'm pretty sure even Battle Meditation will do it for awhile. Definitely want the feat that regens Force points if you're not a Consular though. Early game is rough waiting on that pool to come back.
I recently played KOTOR 1 and it was fantastic. I am currently downloading KOTOR 2 and this video will be a big help, thanks!
Just bought it for the 1st time on the XBox digital store for $5, can’t wait to try it on PC!
Finally discovered both Kotors. I love these games so much. Talk about huge replay value!
Agreed! Having different endings is one thing but have different playthroughs based off your choices really makes it easy to want to reply.
I generally always put all my skill points in treat injury and persuade. Then I auto level my companions and use them to do skill based things. I find auto levelling them is just easier and it allows me to roleplay that I'm using the skills that character canonically has.
Recently started it again with the restored content mod. I so love this game
For me always double saber, simple reason is more buffs.
Solid choice! I enjoy going down that road as well! Guardian perks with Consular forms!
CatDaddy Gaming Also, I would've figured you would say that Stasis Field would be the equivalent of Force Insanity, considering that they both hold enemies in place.
CatDaddy Gaming And yea, mastery of lightsaber combat and mastery over the Force! Best of both worlds.
Thanks just started playing again since I just saw they finally added it to iOS
Just finished a dark side consular/marauder play through after seeing this video after it was new (I didn't play very often), dual wielding 2 lightsabers. I utterly destroyed everything late game even though it was slightly harder than other things in the early game. I never ran out of force points, the powers were rarely saved against and my lightsabers dealt loads of damage.
What stats and feats you went with?
The only thing I’ll add is dual weild vs double sided dual is less damage. For one you’ll have one saber much stronger than the other with two separate rolls as where you’ll have the same crystals and mods modifying the main and off hand swings.
About to play this for the 1st time. Great guide
Thank you! Glad it was helpful. Enjoy your first playthrough!
How has your playthrough gone?
After all these years, I had absolutely no clue you could turn Bao Dur into a jedi lol
Same
My first time playing through I made a Guardian/Sith Lord.
I still come back to this game, I love it.
probably my favorite build is running a guardian with two lightsabers and finesse and just having really high dex.
Thank you so much for this, I have been looking for an in-depth review of character creation on KOTOR II for a while now, so glad I found this.
Very glad it was helpful! :)
I know it's an old video for an even older game, but a few things about skills I didn't hear you cover in the Character Creation section;
- Repair also determines how many components you get for breaking down items, and further into the game it is absolutely necessary in order to fully maximise upgradable weaponry as the difference between high and low repair is a factor of many hundreds of components from a single item, but also bear in mind that when using a bench with a party (ie; not on your ship) the skills of the character who interacted with the bench are used for creating and breaking down, so your MC's skills in this regard won't always be important.
Also bear in mind that, just like workbenches, if you initiate a conversation with a character who is not the MC, the game will act as if it is the MC who is conversing, but skillchecks will be made against _whoever initiated the conversation._
The third point I mentioned is the most important, as the strongest aspect of this game is IMO the dialogue and story, and it's surprising how Computer+Repair are solicited in conversation almost as often as Persuade is, although they are quite often interchangeable (you will get a prompt for both, but a successful check on either will yield the same response) so you don't necessarily want to invest in both.
Run behind the bar the sisters don't even attack xD
Thanks for sharing! Last time i played this was on the original Xbox. I'm bout to play it on steam all these years later.
Very nice. Definitely check out the restored content mod and M4-78 after you give it another playthrough!
Ohhh yea, I heard about that. I'll definitely check it out.
Great guide. I'm pretty sure finesse meele includes lightsabers. Therefore it's actually a waste to buy finesse lightsaber
Thank you for another quality guide sir
I'm more casual guy. So I just wondering what I missed in this game. Thx for helping me out =)
I tend to favor sentinels for the extra skill points as skills are key in the game.
Head to Onderon to get the guaranteed Ossus Keeper Robes ASAP, +2 cha and +4 int and wis is juicy, I tend to consider it the best robe
Hope to get either Circlet of Saresh (light side) for +5 wis or Force Focusing Visor for +1 cha, +4 wis and +2 force regen
Either Improved Automation Gloves for +5 dex and some skills or Jal Shey Meditation Gloves for +2 dex and wis and some extra awareness
There's a few good belts but I prefer Qel-Droma Belt for +1 cha and wis and some force dmg immunities or any stealth belt that can get either +3 or +4 dex (+3 has +1 defense as well, which is better if you have an odd numbered dex to begin with)
Also of course hoping to land the Universal D Implant for +2 to all attributes (need 18 PERMANENT con to equip), otherwise mental boost D package for +3 to all non-physical attributes, Quickness for +4 dex and +1 def, or Immortality for +3 con and all toughness feats.
Also repair HK-47 ASAP, you get +1 con and wis once you hit certain alignment thresholds to open his dialogues
And fixing T3-M4 also nets you +1 wis, on top of giving T3 A BUNCH of extra attributes himself
That's a permanent extra +2 con and +5 wis for your player-character, or +3 con +2 str and +3 wis if you chose to accept the lesson of strength, but since strength only benefits damage and to-hit chances with melee I'll always dump it in favor of dex, since dex does that too with finesse minus extra damage, but you also get defense, saving throws and skills from dex.
I originally went into this game wanting to focus on lightsabers but the second I used force lightning I switched up real quick
Ding. Love this game, have since it came out. Played it many times, looking for a new idea, so I’m going to give your suggestions a whirl. Thanks man.
Just started my 1st play thru as a gaurdian.
Hell yeah! You are going to love it. Guardian is a solid choice. Love the extra weapon feats that they get!
Just starting my consular! Going full Sith though.
Jedi guardian/Jedi master build is really op. I recommend it for everyone
I agree you hit hard with the weapons and with the equipment you get you’re force powers also hit hard usually in 1 or 2 casts.
Timestamp is what making me enjoy this upload, getting to the part I wanted to know. Thumbs up!
Lol very glad you like them! I try to incorporate them into every video. It can be super frustrating to have to scrub the entire video for a 10 sec clip!
@@CatDaddyGaming agreed (:
depending who I use the most is put to be Jedi but the weird part is even with the TSLRM mod, the jedi all have one thing in common with storm troops, they cant hit for crap lol. Only thing that seems to hit for melee jedi is flurry but otherwise your better off going ranged jedi with powers rather then going melee, Just deflect bolts alot and let them kill themselves, then you can force storm to your hearts content.
Just an additional thing you can do with flurry and 2 lightsabers is use master force speed and you have the chance for 4 hits
With Juyo I think you can get 6. I cover it in my lightsaber and Force form video
Cheers!
Bruhhh I was thinking about doing a series on this game, so happy people are still making vids on it lol
You totally should! It is such an amazing game! I am surprised so many people still play it with it being so old. Shows how damn good it was lol!
@@CatDaddyGaming definitely a classic game lol
Overall, good video! But there were a couple of things that I felt were left out/definitely need to be changed:
1) Lightsaber finesse doesn’t combine your strength and dexterity into your lightsaber attack modifier. It just chooses between either dexterity or strength based on which one is higher (normally it is only determined by strength). Aka this is useful only in the unique situation where your DEX is higher than your STR. Definitely not an essential or always applicable. I always pour into STR and leave DEX low because strength also makes your damage of each hit higher
2) You say that force lightning is the most OP power in the game, but just quickly pass over Master speed. Master speed is incredibly useful in all situations and should never be overlooked
I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts or if I’m wrong on either of these!
I just got this game like an hour ago. Thanks for this!
Oh damn! You are in for a treat. Try not to watch any spoilers and what not, though hard to do on an old game.
