Crazy how the japanese development team also liked this change as the japanese release of Yakuza 8 is calling it Etc. instead of More.
This isn't a first! Judgement was originally called "Judge Eye" and was changed to "Judgement" in the localisation. For the sequel, Lost Judgement, they went with that even in the original version, scrapping "Judge Eyes" entirely
Also on Judgement, the icons for the styles in the original were just kanji with the name of the style, but in the english version not only were they renamed but also got brand new art for the icons. For Lost Judgement, the icons featured the art instead of the names, as well as new art for the new styles
RGG isn't afraid to learn from their own localisation!!

@@Gon-hx4df The style icons for Zero were also Kanji in the JP release, and the yellow box art for Like A Dragon was originally made by Sega of America. It became the international release box art, and it's _iconic!_
@@Gon-hx4df I still really hate that change. Judge Eyes just sounds cooler. Like a proper crime drama. "Judgement" just sounds like generic American naming scheme for when a company is too afraid to make their product sound interesting, so they give it a one-word name to entice people who will never care and still don't.

I love this actually. Localization guy A is like “What if you changed it so the command menu spelled out SEGA?” and localization guy B is like “Dammit John, that’s a great idea, let’s make it spell SEGA.” Beautiful.

I never played a Yakuza game, but that's a great story! I like this short-story video format a lot if you've got more stories to tell.
I played one for about 30 minutes, couldn't get into it.
Thought I'd like it cause it reminds me of Shenmue which I used to love though its a bit too slow paced for me.
@@ObsessiveGeek It does take its soap opera story more seriously than Shenmue, and really does want you to watch it. I would recommend trying again.

Hey! I'm a video game writer myself. Tiny interesting tidbit. As this change is text-only as in no voice recording required and also probably only happens to be a change in English, 6 months out is a fairly comfortable buffer (depending on how the rest of the development went of course)
I heard somewhere that Baldurs Gate 3 changed some voice lines a day before their early access release so they had to record it on the same day, localise it to several languages and then patch it in within 24 hours.
I think they had to patch in some translations a little later but oh my god my hands are getting sweaty just thinking about it.

Not gonna lie, even with the whole concept of "localization" of eastern games going down the shitter in the eyes of hobbyists lately (for good reason), I still can't help but crack a smile at such a subtle but brilliant in-joke for SEGA fans. It's not getting in the way of story, scenario or character portrayal out of some sense of self superiority. It's just a bunch of gaming nerds, appealing to fellow gamers in a wink wink nudge nudge fashion that's very blink and you'll miss it.

Get ahold of the offical unreleased Mother 3 Demo for the Nintendo 64 DD revealed only in Spaceworld. This is a relic that barely anyone got to see. You seem to be good at finding this stuff out. And hey another excuse to go to Japan again. Just a thought to consider.

Similarly, the Fallout series almost didn't use SPECIAL. According to Tim Cain it was thought up almost too late to make it into the first game, but they changed a few things around and it's been like that ever since.

The more Nick videos the better. I love the long form stuff but I’m just happy to see an upload honestly. With shorter stuff it would be cool to hit the 10 minute mark but with something this small it’s understandable not to drag it on needlessly. I often comeback to your channel between uploads hoping there’s something new because with all my notifs the videos don’t regularly end up in my recommendations likely due to the lack of frequency of uploads. I love your videos man keep it up.

There is an animation from Makoto Shinkai (The Director who made Your name, Weathering with you, etc) which was released in 1998 that is a 30 second animation named 囲まれた世界. It is said that it is the first ever animation that the director ever did, but the files are lost media now and has been in search for around a decade! thank you!
