    There's no question that I am a huge fan of "Carl Forrester" ornamental grass. It adds a huge amount of vertical contrast to your garden, while at the same time adding shade to some of those more sensitive plants to sun. Plus, if you don't cut it back in the fall/winter, you can look out your window daydreaming of gardening and see which way the wind is blowing. A very versatile plant to many different climates and drought tolerant. It's a winner and a keeper : )

    You have a lovely garden. We get windy here too. I love that you made a netting out of rope. I have never thought of doing that. Try making holes in the curtains so the wind can flow through. Like a half moon.

    • @AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu
      @AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu  3 місяці тому

      Thank you and thanks for stopping by and your suggestion 🙂I did end up taking down the black cloth and putting up another lace curtain which has holes and allows the rain through. I also decided that I will finish the rope netting on that side and secure it with a 2 x 4 at the top and bottom; rather than relying on the staples which I'm pretty sure won't hold. Or, I'm not willing to take the chance because the indeterminate cherry tomatoes will be anchored to the netting.

    You're a hard worker for your garden & landscape plants! I'm going to have to change my whole wildflowers shade landscape. A huge storm blew down a huge sycamore tree & caused damage to a white pine tree. Part of the sycamore is still leaning over my house & the pine is in danger of falling. All must be removed. They provided the necessary shade for my wildflowers. I'm in a quandary as to how to provided artificial shade as I plant new trees to replace the ones I must remove. Ahhh, gardening... always something to disrupt one's best intentions... good ol' Nature, huh?

    • @AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu
      @AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for coming by. Yes, that tree of yours that came down was compromised bye the look of it. It sure did give shade though. Let me know what you decide to put up. Here, because I only have trees bordering my property, I most likely will end up putting 6 x 6's in the ground and cabling shade cloth overhead.

    Hi Krista, we had the same issue with line we used to hold up our blackberry vines. We ended up replacing it with a coated clothesline type that won't stretch. I had to embrace ornamental grasses out front because it's one of the things deer won't eat. 🙄

    Thank you so much for taking the time talking about your project and explaining why and how especially with the rope with the stretching it makes perfect sense. I find your videos educational and fascinating for sure. I’m also interested in ornamental grasses. I definitely want to get some in front of the house here by me. My neighbor has beautiful clumps. I wonder if I could maybe ask if I could have a clump lol 😅what if they say no? 😮 I guess I’ll just get my own.😅

    • @AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu
      @AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu  3 місяці тому

      Thanks so much Susie for your kind words. My neighbor was over helping me get my 2 lawn mowers (yes, I have 2 now. I forgot to share that) working, lol, and made a suggestion about the rope. My plan now is to finish the one side and anchor it at the top, sides, and bottom with strapping or whatever I have laying around here. This was a brilliant idea that I hadn't thought of. There will still be some stretching but at least it will make the season without being pulled down by the weight of the tomatoes and peppers blowing around. I really like the nautical look of the rope. Yes, for sure ask your neighbor for a clump. Just say you noticed how nice it looked and wondered if you could get a piece 🙂Some ornamental grasses drop seed but "Karl Forester" is not one of them. Of course that would be my suggestion to get 😁It's possible that the nurseries in your area may have them still but they typically are brought in around May here and sell out pretty quickly. I don't think I've ever seen your front gardens btw 🤔🙂
