Great, practical video Brendan. I used to annotate all my members with their full descriptions. Using abbreviations and "Marks" makes for better drawings without the clutter.
Hi Theuns, I agree that the abbreviated annotations are excellent. I had lots of steel fabricators comment on how easy it was to use. Passes on the same annotation as a full description but reduces the clutter.
I am a civil engineer but I have more experience as a project manager. However, my dream is to work as a structural engineer. I am considering doing a masters degree in structural engineering and you are very inspiring to me it makes me want to start my master now! Haha
Great Channel Brendan, I 've just come accross it and already consumed a fair chuck of the content. Something I see as a gap of knowledge between the consulting industry and the steel fabrication industry is what is currently considered best practice in the steel fabrication industry and the move by industry to utilise advanced manufacturing technologies more. Drawings at some stage will be relied upon less by the fabrication industry and already I am seeing fab shops and steel detailing consultants around Australia move to a preference for smart models as their preferred deliverable. I would be interested to see some vids from you about your experience in this space.
Hi SMP, I agree that is the direction the industry is heading and linking Analysis to documentations and fabrication drawings. I think it is still many years off, but it is getting easier and easier to do. this would be a interesting topic to cover
@@BrendanHasty it's happening now Brendan, I have worked on projects where it was a contract requirement, one being a pilot project for a large BHP project. I'd be happy to share the experience.
Thanks for your great video(s). I would like to know the meaning of 'Ex' in expressions such as 'Ex 10mm ms plate...' Thanks in advance for your attention. PS: The term is usually found in structural steel drawings. I have not been able to find a good reference for this.
Hi Karma, thanks for your support. I do have a video on the best structural design software ua-cam.com/video/ZloyGXxDFII/v-deo.html it is an older video sorry for the quailty. That is a good idea for a video thanks for the suggestion.
Sir I am civil engineering graduate . Currently i do my specialisation in structural engineering .That type of videos are very help ful for us .Thank you sir .
Hey As a 3rd yesr bachelor student doing civil engineering What do you think i should focus more on to be good in this fielf I want to major in structural eng Kindly recommend some books too Thank you
Hi, thanks for watching, when starting out focus on structural mechanics. But don't neglect communication skills written, spoken and documentation(drawing/schematics). Good luck in your studies.
Hi Shazeb, most details are still 2D but in revit so basically cad. Complex steel details do get modelled in the 3D space and drawing have isometric views. In Australia revit is king at the moment tekla hasn't moved here in mass yet.

I was talking about this twice today! Amazing timing!
Hi ScottishAl, glad to see you back. Happy that I can provide. Thanks for your support.
Do more of these. A vlog would be super cool when collaborating with architects. Would be Nice.
Hi De sign, thanks for your support. I have both already in the queue. a Vlog Style video is coming out tomorrow.
@@BrendanHasty nice! thanks!!
Thanks alot , this is very important since I am struggling reading drawings.
Hi Brooks, thanks for your support hope it made it easer.
Amazing video with very interesting details. Keep up the good work Sir!
Hi Eagle Fan, thanks for your support. Glad you found it beneficial.
Thank you ❤
It was so useful, thanks for uploading such amazing videos Brendan

Hi Samyvanegas, thanks for the support. Glad that my content has motivated you into considering structural engineering.
that was a great topic Brendan, keep up the good work.
Hi again Deepak, I will keep it up BTW it is Brendan =)

Thanks a lot, your explanations are really helpful
Hi Ataba, thanks for your support. Glad that I could help.
cheers mate great topic - more of this please.
Hi Alian, thanks for your support. Already have several lined up should be out shortly.

Great video. Can you make more content like this !
Hi Fernando, there is another one dropping this week, in concrete drawing.
as always an awesome video. can you do a video on softwares that a structural engineer should know? thanks

Excellant
Hope you can talk more about this "how to read steel structure drawing" topic in more details, is this possible?
There are already several videos on the why, how to read concrete drawings and timber drawings.
This is helpful for me
Hi Thanks for your support.
Thank you 👌👌
Hi Kimmy thanks for watching.
Amazing video sir
Hi Archita thank you for your support, hope it was helpful.

Very interesting. Can you tell me what are the tolerances allowed in structural steel?
Hi Igor, design tollarance would be 10 to 20mm. fabrication is lot less there is only about 4mm.
Great. You have any Roof Truss Design.
Hi Stafford Biggs, thank for your support. I don't yet have a video on roof truss design
can you please share the drawings either in pdf for dwg format please
You should react to NYC the vessel.
Hi Asian Green, thanks for watching and suggestion. I will see what I can do
I think it's not complicate like you doing. Unless you design it
Hi Tuan, agree when you break it down it isnt the complicated.

is CAD still being used for detailing or it is replaced by BIM(tekla ,revit e.t.c)

Can you provide the drawing? 😐
At the moment I don't have a form I can sent then out but hopefully in the future.
