- Is this the most versatile plugin NeuralDSP has released? Potentially so. Featuring three distinct and complimentary amps, well tuned stomp boxes and the BEST delay Neural has ever put into one of their plugins, Archetype: Mateus Asato is a strong and inspiring new showing from my favorite digital brand.

speechless. thank you so much for making such an incredible review, Mark. I appreciate you!
Can I have a license Mr mateus🥺🥺 is expensive.
fr tho this is one of the best plugins for guitar I’ve ever heard I will definitely be picking it up. It’s hard to make my guitar sound like yours without expensive pedals your tones are nasty
The individual pieces of gear you chose to model here come together so well. This really is such a strong showing from Neural and a great representation of your sound. Appreciate you, thank you.
I’m also a sucker for that gorgeous lead amp head
@@shquankinket8068 work and buy it with your money. How dare you as for free? He's not your close friend or any kind of that.
@@shquankinket8068lmfaooo send me the license too
Mark- you’ve become my go to for looking at new gear. Your demos are well crafted and your deep dive explorations really cover everything! So grateful you’re out there as a solid resource for gear nerds like me and I always look forward to your videos!
I loved the song in the beginning. Also your style resonates very much with mine, and you've sold me this plugin with everything you did to it.
One of the best neural demos ive seen. Ill probably buy this one. That delay is really cool. I own a bunch of these and I feel like the sound quality gets better with every rendition.
Awesome, very warm sound & incredible reverb effects.
Thanks!
Never heard of this artist, great content as always Mark.
You always do a great job of demonstrating new tools in ways I would likely use them. That really makes it easy for me to weed out what I need and don't need (want/don't want) from new released plug-ins and pedals. Thanks Mark!
Mateus has been my favourite guitarist for a good few years now. Fantastic review!
Wonderful demo ! The best I’ve seen… Great tones and great playing 😊 Thank You Mark !
thank you!
Those echo and reverb modules sound epic!
Such tasteful playing mate. The delay on this thing is stunning. Bought this half price yesterday, works been so hectic I've not had chance to try it yet.
Nice to check out a Neural demo that isn't filled with chugga chuggas all the way thorough. I liked to sound and was able to hear clearly enough if it would work for me so I bought it. Good job!
10000% correct; this archetype is a master piece. I am able to replicate so many of Mateus key tones and responsiveness with the different amps and effects. The compressor, reverb, and echo steal the show though
The post effects are some of the best Neural has made in their sims.
its incredible how much the managed to emulate a tape machine. My next pedal purchase was going to be a deco and now I'm debating getting this over the deco. I suppose I could use them in conjunction but the added benefits of this over the deco is the amount of reverb and delay this offers my goodness.
This always reminds me of how good my revised 70ties tube amp sounds
Killer overview!
Apologies this is somewhat unrelated, but I think an Archetype: Nigel Hendroff would do REALLY well!
What a really wonderful and inspired demo, Mark. I'm curious, have you ever played through the Polychrome DSP McRocklin Suite? I love that one too.
I love what Neural DSP is doing. Amazing looking UI and really great sounding effects and amps and I own Archetype Tim Henson which is a really cool plugin. Has anyone noticed some weird sort of artifacts and the tail end of the chord or note that sounds almost like digital glitching for lack of a better term? Its pretty apparent around the 16:50 and 33:50 mark on this video. I noticed a bit of that on the Henson plugin as well. Just wondering if its just my ears. Really nice videos Mark!
cracking intro song, bro!
For me there's two people who can make any piece of gear they touch sound good. The first is Rabea, the second is Mark. At first when I watched the release trailer on Neural's channel I was like, "Oh that's nice, but not really my style." and never even considered a kind of punk sound like this Intro song has. Reminds me a bit of AFI. I could also see this being great for some ambient post rock with that delay and reverb section. I think the Reverb could have had some more features, though if it's based off of Mateus rig I guess they'd want to keep it accurate.
Good ear, the song is 100% an homage to AFI.
I think this is the most versatile plugin they’ve done so far. At least of the.. half of them I’ve used / own so far. They’re all moderately versatile if you want to spend the time but the three amps here + that tape delay really makes things special on this one imo. Definitely the “if you’re only gonna have one” of the line.
You make bass seem so cool and I want to play bass now
That’s because bass is quietly much cooler than guitar is. A great bass part will always be more fun to play and will do more for a song than a great guitar part. Always.
Absolutely love this plugin. Amazing tones. I'd say it's there Most impressive plugin yet.
Man, I LOVED the intro song, just hit that sub button. Amazing demo btw. Did you record that song exclusively for this review? :D
Yep, everything on this channel is original music written for the video.
I spent some time with this today. The standouts are definitely the delay and reverb. Unfortunately I did not find any tones from the amps or pedals that I really loved. I'm not sure why as I own and really enjoy most of the other Neural DSP plugins. Thank you for the review!
Does it eat a lot of CPU like the Tone King dsp?
@@sons7429 If anything its a little more CPU hungry than the Tone King one.
Most versatile guitar plugin by Neural DSP
intro song reminds me of Circa Survive haha
How do deal with latency in Luna? Also, how do you play into this plugins and have it be in stereo in Luna?
Which caps do you use? Beatiful tone btw
hi mark, I might have missed it; are you plugging your guitar directly in your UAD interface? or pedals in between?
I'm struggling to get a good tone when adding any amount of OD/distortion. It sounds thin and muffled at the same time if thats even possible. Any tips for what may be causing this or how to tweak EQ?
Sounds great man! Does this eat up as much CPU as the Tone King dsp?
I can’t really speak to that as I’ve never noticed on my admittedly fairly slow machine.
Would like to hear it pushed with some fuzz etc

How does that tape delay compare to the UAfx stuff?? If your not bothered about hardware is there a sonic reason to use pedals over this in the studio?
The tape delay in this is actually insane. I’m planning a shootout between it, my real analog tape echo, and one or two other options because I think they all bring something specific to the table but maaaaaaaaan this one is good. It’s definitely the best delay neural has made.
For an absolute beginner who has only used an amp, can you recommend a place to start researching how all this works? As in the hardware side of things to run into your computer and the software?
Your best bet is to get a reasonably popular and cheap USB interface and get a few free trials on different DAW's until you find one you like. I've had good luck with Cubase and they have a lot of different price ranges and student discounts, but a lot of people also love reaper and Ableton as well.
I think this plug is the most amp sounding plugin compared to most of neural low gain amp. most of them sound DI-ish and I dont hear it on this one. Im not sure, Ive got to try this later..
I miss in all of these Neural software editions a tremolo effect. An amp included effect or standalone pedal, and It'd become perfect to me.
To be fair the tone king plugin has an amp trem that is quite nice.
@@markjohnstonofficial You're totally right!
The modulation pedal in this plugin has tremolo.
Very nice sounding video. Definitely inspired me to buy this. But then Neural DSP disappointed me, had signed up for their newsletter. And today got an email with the subject 'Archetype: Mateus Asato is 50% off! 🔥' and body 'still want Archetype: Mateus Asato? Save 50% in our Black Friday Sale'. So, I immediately went to go buy it. But, there doesn't seem to be any way to buy it 50% off. Just 30%. And, there's a bit of sharp practice going on. Because, they display prices. But the are excluding VAT, with that fact hidden behind an info button. Which is not normal practice and actually quite sneaky. I think it actually breaches the ASAP CAP Code advertising rules in the UK. Because it's only showing VAT exclusive prices to customers most of whom will be retail customers. But it only shows the price including VAT much later in the checkout process when you are about to enter payment details. So ends up being a total of 100eur ($108), not 59, as I expected it to be. Not cool, Neural DSP!
I think that they actually can't calculate what tax will apply until you enter your address (associated with your bank card or whatever) to pay for it. You might be on holiday in Australia , but paying as a UK resident or something. So they can only figure out the correct tax to apply at the point where you say how you will pay for it. Also, the asato is the most recent plugin, so I was surprised to see it was on sale at all. I think their other sale will be sometime next year and this plugin might be 50% off then, like the others. I was confused by the tax thing too, but I think they've done the best they can here. The plugin is good!
@@romuluslucinaI understand your points, and the plugin is good. But, they could and should say the price is excluding VAT very very clearly on the front page. Instead of hiding it behind an 'i' hover. I think it's a deliberate marketing decision. Also, even the follow up email they sent also said ALL plugins were 50% off, then said Asato was not, in smaller text. I think this is all very deliberate sneaky marketing and dodgy advertising.
Great review of a great product. Refreshing to have someone who actually plays the guitar rather than cum-shotting swept arpeggios into every part of the video.
what is a guitar pluggin?
can the pedals be controlled by a midi controller ?
Everything can be
low mid scaffolding ... great explanation

Again, good content, but again, and again, another way to waste some money on stuff like that.
Kinda boring to not say nothing more than this, and a bit almost sad, that this your work. People like you, need to almost squeeze himself to leave information, overview, review, playthough, look like wow and stuff to made it as something really OMG or new, that isn't, honestly. People like you at this point it's the real gold of this products, not the products itself, consider this as a big compliment.
Well, I was just talking about the way companies are doing stuff and how they're bringing like something "new" using unfair baits to made people buy something that they already have. And your content in general? Well, your content and playing it's awesome anyway.
A friendly reminder that; 1. no one is making you buy anything and 2. my role here is not to sell you anything, nor to convince you that you need anything new. I am here to write music and show you EXTENSIVELY how the pedal / plugin / guitar / whatever sounds so you can make your own informed decision and spend your money wisely. There's a full hour of sound samples from the plugin in this video. Thats not bait, thats demonstration.
@@markjohnstonofficial I tried to explain that I wasn't being critical on your content, specially about the "bait" that I was talking about on using "Petrucci, Rabea, Gojira" on products and so on, your video isn't have these kinda stuff, your content is very good.
