We should talk about Neural DSP Archetype: Metallica (Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ Suite)
"Yeah." - James Hetfield

Oh I thought you were talking about Polychrome. That’s seriously incredible!
How do you use a wah pedal with it?
It sounded like shit
PG just demoed the new Mark VII. In case you didn't know. I thought it was some early April Fools joke.
It's actually "yeayeah!"
Without a wah, this would have to be called Archetype Hetfield
It’s crazy how that lead tone is so unique. The Sanitarium solo definitely has that unique saturation that instantly takes me back to first hearing that song/solo and you totally nailed the vibe. Cheers, Hunter!
Not relevant to you Hunter. More so the commenters… people need to quit hating on bands just cause it’s the popular opinion. Sorry but you all have Metallica to thank for most of your favorite bands and songs.
Damn I didn’t know that a 7 year old James Hetfield inspired Led Zeppelin to write Black Dog
@@MarioHernandez-zc7dv Please read. He stated "most". Obviously the Zep is not meant with this. Metallica are a huge influence for most Metal bands. That's the basic statement. Any disagreement is to be rendered invalid because that is simply fact.
@@PippPrissr/woosh
This is not intended to be an insult: this is the most visceral you have ever appeared to be in a video. I’m a lifer of a Metallica fan and you’ve nailed the 85-87 motif.
Yeah that demo track definitely hit the spot, you captured the Metallica vibe well!
Nnno...
Awesome. You can tell you had a blast getting your Metallica on!
I love the fact that you ran through all your favorite singlecuts in this demo.
Finicky is an apt descriptor for this plugin. It offers a lot of versatility with the effects suite and the transpose option but I still think the nameless suite has the best plug and play factor. Simple fun and great sounding.
IIc+ is a hella finnicky amp IRL, too. So if the plugin is the same, they nailed it :D
5:52 ah yes the metalzoan preset
“Someone put an amber alert out for those mids” had me howling
You just wrote a testament song. Definitely not complaining though. You absolutely kill it with these reviews and this one is just extra special. Keep up the great work!
I was just gonna say that, and it turned out really good.
Kept waiting for a Chuck Billy growl to come in somewhere.
Best demo video on this Mesa Boogie plugin I have seen so far!
This is the best metallica song in over 20 years lmao Great job, Hunter that was really sick.
Newcomer to the channel. I appreciate that you're taking the time to write new song parts with whatever gear/software you're using, and putting them together in the context of a mix. The creativity and the work involved does not go unnoticed. Subscribed.
Also, the Mark IIC+ suite is sick. Definitely going to purchase it soon.
Crap! I actually didn’t know I was subscribed…. I actually watch your vids a lot too. Sorry mang, sub
Sorry for not subbing sooner. I was surprised that I wasn't.
I'm a software developer and, after tipping my toes in audio development, I believe that the HUB idea can be done. HOWEVER, It's a tooon, but A TON of work and we need to remember that Neural is a relative small company focused on quality.
I'm sure they have something like that on the backlog to be released whenever, but it requires a bunch of planning, probably re-architecturing and refactoring all of the plug-ins.
But hey, just the fact that you mention it, and the community asking for it, I'm sure they'll listen and move some priorities around to make it happen sooner rather than later.
GREAT VIDEO!
Awesome track! I’ve been a bit meh on this plugin so far. The acoustic/piezo amp in Petrucci and the Tone King are my fave NDSPs to date, maybe ironically since NDSP tends to be favored for the chugs. But for high gain for me, I’m really loving the Otto Audio Eleven Eleven. I don’t know if it’s the best for recording or whatever, but for just practicing, jamming to myself, it sounds so mind-bogglingly huge. Love it.
Yes, the II II II II is still about the best plugin for metal. I have nearly every guitar plugin from every company and to date, the Otto Audio, Softube Marshall JCM800KK and Neural DSP Gojira are still my favorites for hardcore metal.
I've used and bought so many goddamn plugins since 2020 and the II II II II is the best, closely followed by Amphub and its many awesome high gain models (including the best Rectifier in plugin form)
Double subscribed to mitigate that 9472%
Like the clean chorus 🧼
The Metal up your! preset is likely emulating the Master of Puppets guitar sound where they used the Boogie amps (and in particular the C++) for the first time. Kill ‘em all and Ride the Lightning were Marshall tones if I’m not mistaken.
Loved the riffs fuk-ing brilliant!
YEAH-EAH
that demo was better than last couple of singles they released
I have been playing with the plug in, sounds surprisingly great! I use an older macbook pro and scarlett interface. I also have the buffer set to 96, that eliminates the input delay.
I have the same setup, what buffer are you talking about?
@Mattias Lundmark click the gear on lower left of plug in screen. Then look for audio buffer size, default is 512 samples but change that to 96. Your input lag will be gone and it will feel like you are playing an amp.
Ive been trying it for a couple of days now. Im coming from the Soldano SLO-100 NeuralDSP amp and I have to say, this Mark IIC+(+) really is a completely different animal! I love this thing! So versatile, dynamic, very sensitive and responsive to technique and playing style... and that sound is just absolutely amazing. This is what I was waiting for! Finally a C+(+) to play with!
Brilliant Demo Track!! Brilliant I say!!
when the "Metal up your!" preset came in the cornor of my mouth raised.. I'll try this one
If this was on the new Metallica album it would save the whole thing
@TheBANDEMIC it’s hard to save Metallica when Metallica hasn’t been Metallica since the album before Metallica
@TheBANDEMICcorny but that intro is the best so far out of the 3 songs
This thread is full of bitches, I will thoroughly enjoy this new album while you cower away.
it's impossible to save the new album lol
Looks like we found the MegaDeath crew - you ppl never stop whining about Metallica. Sorry you don’t know what good is. More Metallica goodness for the rest of us!
Dudeee, that "wouldnt you rather" intro riff was the saaameee💀🔥
As fellow Metallica fan, speedrunning Metallica cliches and writing tons of kickass knockoff Metallica riffs is just part of the grind, lol.
The C+ was used on Master Of Puppets while the C++ was a C+ that was modified by Mesa Boogie for Metallica to use on their And Justice For All album. PS - you can also access the rear panel of these 2 amps in this plugin.
I feel like this is their modern live sound
0:52 that aged hilariously badly....not even a day later and the VII launches.
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
At ~ 11:29 The Boogie has Stereo off and the Petrucci has Stereo on. That makes a big difference. What if both are on or off?
Nicely done Hunter
the mids in your rhythm tone BLEEDS MY EARS AHHHHHHHHHHHH
In my experience, to get the most out of a C+ is to turn up the first volume which gives more gain and saturation. (Volume 1)
Neural DSP be like "HEY HAVE A PLUGIN SO YOU CAN YEEEEEEEEEA"
Neural DSP Quad Cortex in the corner, severely lacking in updates and promised features: "May I pls have a desktop editor and more updates? PLS!!!!"
Bleed from Within and Orbit Culture have used Neural plugins on their albums, so there you go. Sounds awesome!
Carcosa’s pretty much all NDSP, too! Didn’t know about Bleed From Within. Makes sense now, their presets are all over the plugins
What Neural DSP plugins they use? Gojira? Nameless or something else?
@@JohnnyRaven69 OC used Gojira. BfW used Gojira to record their parts but Nolly later switched to another for the record itself. Their guitarist wasn’t sure which (but I could guess which since it’s Nolly lmao).
@@patfix Ok, thanks!!
"Notoriously hard to dial in"
"No one reads the manual that explains how the BMT work as pre-EQ"
I tried this plugin but I could not dial a metal tone I liked. I tried the Petrucci Archetype, and I quickly fell in love with it. Maybe I should try this one again to see if I can get it to work, since the Mesa Mark Series has always been my favorite amps.
I could not get into it either and I was a huge Metallica fan up to ANJFA. First album had the best tones.
@@danpena7922 I did 3 tries on the Mesa Suite. 2 interfaces and 2 different guitars but I cannot dial a toneI liked for the life of me.
Fuck Yea
Dude sick custom! Never seen it on your Channel before. Keep rocking
Glad to see you using your signature model in this video!
I love those plugins!!! I’m down loading them now
I got an ad for this exact product halfway through watching this video
bought so many on their birthday sale excited to get my guitar lol.
Starting off with Shortest Straw. Interesting…
That demo track was sick!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I wish someone would make an entire video on how to get setup to do this.. I have absolutely no clue. I have a real Mk5 25 and cab. But I'd love to be able to work my guitar on a computer like this... I guess I'll just stick to my old ways.
You didn't have the doubler on, is their a reason why? That's what made this plugin the best for me.
re the tech, yes it is possible *but* you're right, without some kind of streamlined novel coding approach it will still require very high end equipment (literally a bucket of ultra fast RAM and a forty core cpu). Loved the 'Tallica style demo, I am impressed by the DSP - it sounds like the record. Its funny how that pneumatic right arm of Hets is *so* distinct as a technique, its as obvious as a Dime squeal. Great work (also, *when* can I get a purple Agufish sig?)
New. Favorite. Riff. Yes, it might be gimmicky as hell, but that was the aim, and it’s executed perfectly. Good job, brother.
Killer track bro! Great review. Cheers
We're up to the Mark V now... except a Mark VII came out and messed you up lol
That song was SICK! Cheers!
Shoulda tried the settings from Flemings studio notes to see how close it gets!
Good vid anyway tho 😁🤘
Can you tell us what is the zero-fret behind the nut gadget you show in that video? Is it a damper or something similar like eg the string trees on stratocasters? Would be a solution for the intonation problem in the first fret with Les Paul style headstocks. Thanks for answering. Go on. Love your channel, it is awesome.
When you go to check the video out and you randomly plays a riff that sounds like a riff that i played today :D
You should check out the Otto plugin as well. I’ve been playing on it all the time and freaking love it
hell yeah! Metallica fanboy as well, that demo track was on point! 🤘
My first tube head was a mark v boogie. It was a weird experience cause I just bought it based on bands I liked who used it/sung its praises (LoG, Dream Theater, Metallica), plus Petrucci himself did a tone walkthrough on the mk v on youtube (from like 2009 mind you, youtube was a different place then lol), and I fell instantly in love with the sonic capability of this thing.
I was so initially put off by it once I brought it home and hooked it up to my 4x12. I just couldn't get a sound I liked coming out of it. It took hours upon hours of tweaking and tweaking (and also, mind you, retraining my ear to what was actually a "good" tone compared to what my little inexperienced high school brain perceived as a "good tone" at the time). You hit the nail on the head though, once you learn how to use these things and dial in a proper tone, it's just unbelievable. I love my mark v and it'll remain a part of my recording (and performing) tone for probably the rest of my life.
I don't want to be that gear snob but I'm going to be that gear snob. The ++ is in reference to the Mesa Mark II C++ amp which has a different gain stage to the normal C+. I'm sorry for being that guy. Have a wonderful day/afternoon/evening to anyone who read this.
Don’t be sorry lol. We’re all nerdy gear geeks here in search of knowledge. The Mark II came out well before my time so didn’t know that about the different C variants! Thank you for sharing
the cool thing about the rectifier is that when you dipped back the bass and cranked the mids, you get an awesome thick amp that can cut through a live performance. I've not tried the 2C+ suite yet, but I might. Till now Archetype Gojira provided everything I needed. would you say the Jp-2c is darker than the 2C?.
I just love this plugin. Till now i was good with Nolly, but that replaces it in every case i used it for. Still in test-trial, but my descision was clear after opened it with default settings. "yeah"
Sounds killer mate, nice one 🤘
Best Video about the Plugin yet BY FAR. I especially liked the comparison to the Petrucci Plugin - which SHOULD also be based on the IIc+ but it sound much more modern. Hmm... may have to get the IICP after all... dammit.
Please compare the Petrucci suite and the Mark IIC+!
Sick
Honestly, I like your demo track better than anything off Hardwired or anything off the upcoming album. Nice work!
It seems like this covers a fair bit more Mesa territory than NeuralDSP's Archetype Petrucci, but having said, the Petrucci version seems versatile enough for me, and since I already have that, I'm hard pressed to think of a reason why I would need this too. You make a valid point about this one being differently voiced, and it probably does a few things more spot on, but with post EQ and some time I feel like I can get close enough with that and other options that it makes this one a tough sell for those that already Archetype Petrucci. I will say that Archetype Petrucci is not perfect by a long shot and I'm having some performance issues with it even on a pretty robust laptop (upscale M.S. Surface on power, not battery).
Anyhow this one does sound great and you did an awesome job with your demo. My only crit: Needs MOAR WAH lol 😂
Cheers!
I absolutely love this plugin and it's so much better than the Amplitube version which is utterly lacking in distortion even when you really crank the Volume 1 and Lead Drive controls. I prefer it over the ML Fluff 2C as well because it has all the settings.
Yeah, I know everyone else has already said it, but that track fucking RIPS!!!!🤘
Who says Hunter can't solo? Hehe loved the demo track. I do agree Neural are the kings still of plug ins. Petrucci is still my favorite one that I'd get if I still had a guitar and proper computer
an actual archetype metallica would be instant buy for me (and probably a lot of other people)
Potatoes
We’re up to the mark 7 now
That is a f***ing sick song! Well done.
I haven't been into the last handful of Neural DSP releases. The last one I truly liked is Plini. I don't even listen to that guys music, nor did I know who it was before the plugin, but I thought the cleans and Amp2 (Friedman?) sounded very good in the context of a real mix. This new Mark IIc+ though is the first one I've truly enjoyed playing. I've never burned away hours just playing into a plugin before this one. Still demoing, but highly unlikely I won't buy this one.
We are up to Mark 7... but that IIC+....unbeatable
Really hope they come up with some way to mix and match pieces of their suites. Amazing tones and all but that's still a huge QOL issue they should figure out sooner rather than later. But as long as they keep making money from what they're doing now it'll be hard to justify the time and resources into it. I just hope it's implemented before it becomes "too big" of a task, my pc could probably even handle multiple instances it's just the unnecessariness of having to do so. @NeuralDSP love the packs tho PS. make a Tim Henson v2 eventually and make one for Scott Lepage his tones are saucy
NDSP missed the chance to simulate the Grid Slammer overdrive pedal, considering it's Mesa's take on the famous Green Overdrive.
One the the ods in the plugin is emulating the grid slammer
Great job dude
Man you can get the official mesa mark4, the mark5 , the mark 2c+ and the mark 3 simu amp on amplitube since 2 year now ! with all cabinets
Hey I got a question? So by the time you cut the camera, how long does it usually take you to put together the demo? Do you have the ability to speed run that to? Or do you get someone else to mix it and stuff? Thanks for any answers you’re able to give!! I’m mostly curious because I’ve just started composing songs that actually flow together after a year of mixing and recording.
Never thought I'd see you play Dream Theater in a video! 🤘
I'm also curious to hear your thoughts on the ML Soundlab plugins of the Mesa Mark amps. They have a Mark V and a Mark IIC.
as soon as i saw this, i went and bought this Archetype. i already had the Rabea one and it’s AWESOME but i want a Mesa one too :)
What interface are you using? Do they make that big of a difference going from a sub $100 one to $1k?
Pretty sure the Prince amp was the Mesa Boogie Heartbreaker.
He used IIC+ amps in the past as well
he used mark ii b colisseums them c+ first
And he settled on the lone stars
We're actually up to the MKVII now, nevertheless ...
When is Neural going to start 'DELIVERING' these plug ins for their Quad Cortex????
Metallica should hire you as their songwriter!
loveed your tone you made and your interlude with the pitch shifted/octave solo was nuts... and you solo better then kirk hammett :P
their tones (dsp) they made arent that close at all, and your gate sounds way too sharp and snappy,
should try give it a bit less attack so that its not so heavy on your signal, you cant hear the after chunk of each chord when you stop playing theres resonance that is being destroyed by the noise gate... just words of advice from a full time sound engineer and fellow musican...
12:45 Find The Real! On that beautiful tremonti sig too. Awesome.
It's not the gear people are after it's the secret sauce to the great music written with it. Anything is great if it sold millions of albums
They gona do mesa vh4 next as James dabbled in that . He blended mesa Marshall and diezel.
Actually, as of yesterday we’re up to the Mark 7!
For some reason, palm mute in NeuralDSPs plugins sounds strange: there is not enough muting on it, it sounds like scratching, there is no sharp and clear “meat” in it like you can hear in real cab or on pro band records like Metallica
10:21 the cat scared me xD
