Christopher Reeves' Superman IS magic to me. Seeing it as a kid really has an lasting impression on me. I bought two of them back when Hot Toys released them years ago. Thanks for the video.
Christopher Reeve IS Superman. John Williams Superman theme is the only music ever that will be associated with Superman. Rest in peace to your mother, and Christopher Reeve. God bless them.
You can tell there was so much love put into this figure. It’s really like a brand new figure! I’m really impressed by not only the hs, but the choice of material for the suit! It really looks like a seamless body underneath!
I love these kitbash videos! It's fun to learn about other companies who do some fantastic head sculpts and costumes for sixth scale figures. I also love watching you put them all together. I am a big Christopher Reeve fan and honestly, the head sculpt doesn't look good. The bags under his eyes, looks like he hasn't slept weeks and that took away from the rest of improvements. The new suit looks fantastic! End of the day, your figure and you enjoy him, that's what counts!
The most beloved Superman ever!! While I love the suit, that head sculpt looks bizarre imo. It looks too emaciated and sunk in. I'm sure in all your reviews, you haven't liked a sculpt that others love, so I doubt you'll be sensitive to others not feeling this. Great review as usual!!
Hi Justin! Excellent Job Customizing the Superman Figure! Honestly, I agreed but I truly couldn't Compared the Superman Customed and Hot Toys Superman. They're both Unique in its own way. In other Words, you now got the Best of Both Worlds. Mentioning I'm really Loving the Cooler Display Stand too. I'm still glad I got my Hot Toys: 78 Superman in my Collection, this Present Day. The Superman (1978) Movie, also brings back my Childhood with my Mother as well. Thanks for bringing back, one of the Greatest Memories of our Past! I'll always Cherish it, my Friend and Stay Super! 😭 😃 🌟
This is a stunning custom. The new accurate suit really does the great HT body justice, congrats! For those saying the head sculpt is inaccurate: it's not. It's incredibly accurate. I have the same one in 1/12 for my Mezco Superman, I've seen it without paint and with (painted it myself), and the likeness is the best I've seen of Reeve in figure form. I think what people are responding to is the rosy shading under the eyes and on the nose. A paint job can make or break a likeness, but if you don't have the ability to see a sculpt through the paint you'll say "it's horrible", etc. The rosy embellishments are a little heavy for my taste personally, but it's not going on my shelf, so my taste is irrelevant here. Also worth noting that contrast can be higher on camera and so the lighter parts of the skin get blown out, and the darker parts don't; I would wager this thing looks pretty perfect to the naked eye, and probably lend to it looking more lifelike. Either way, it's a custom to be proud of, and easily the best 1/6 Reeve Superman I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot).
@@JustinsCollection Ah yes, sorry that was intended for the layperson who might not have the understanding of what they're looking at-- I wouldn't presume to tell you about your own lighting/years of experience shooting hundreds of videos!
It's a poor custom. I think I know what I'm responding to, rather than being told what I'm responding to - the colour is wrong but so is the shape of the face, the eyes, the kiss curl, the shape of Reeve's famously slim nose - all wrong. I grew up with the original Superman movies - Hot Toys nailed it with their head sculpt of a serious Supe.
I absolutely love kitbashing figures. Something about the challenge and coming up with ideas to make it pop. The only thing I notice about kitbashing is that if you don't do it after a while, you might get rusty quickly and make little to costly mistakes...or maybe it's just me! Happy collecting!
The hot toys Superman gets my vote. The head sculpt on the new one does not look like Christopher Reeve. I like the vibrant colors on the hot toys version. I actually have that figure and I love him. My favorite Hot toy to date
Love the review and great comparison Justin, if there was no hot toy I guess this would do the job, it’s the preferences I loved the screen accuracy and the head sculpt looks decent.. it has the reeves smile for sure .. love the effort you take to reach people and this custom figure is a good add on along with the hot toys figure.. it’s the benchmark set by hot toys but if given a chance I would own this custom figure.. as always cheers to you Justin love your presentation effort, time and dedication put into this hobby you are helping other fellow collectors.. loved the tribute to your mother with this Christopher reeves review.. rip.. you are doing a fantastic job keep more videos coming up like this mate cheers
Loved it! As someone who grew up watching the Reeve/Routh Superman movies, he means so much to me this video kinda got me emotional. End result of the figure really is more accurate and hopefully the BAF series doesn't end anytime soon.
@@JustinsCollection that's really unfortunate :/ but I understand the reasoning behind the decision. Customs are really divisive, more so on social media. Hopefully there's a way we can get updates on X figures or something similar to it.
Brooooo....that 5 o' clock shadow is sooooo subtle. I love painting figures, but holy hell, there's no way I can pull that off. The headsculpt and paintjob reminds me of the first time I saw a superman movie, it was with Christopher Reeve (didn't know there were other actors back then), I was watching it with my dad and my brother on our old family TV (I'm from eastern europe). The paintjob is so good, I just timetraveled...
The likeness on the new head sculpt does look like Reeves more than I initially thought. I looked up some photos ( in my minds eye I could not see it ) and compared them to the new sculpt and it looks just like him. I thought maybe the shape of the hair was off but - nope - it really does look like the 1977 version ! Great result!
The comparison with the Hot Toys one really sells the custom to me. The suit in particular, the colour as you say is much more movie accurate. I love how you show the parts and then how it comes together, I tell you the BAF series is offering something no one else is doing at the moment… not to this high end level. I can understand some of the comments around the headsculpt, but it’s custom and deserves more love and appreciation of the skill involved. It’ll be interesting to see how the Inart versions of Supes and Clark come out.
I don't think we can call this a custom figure, it's practically a whole brand new figure 😆😁 JND Studios did excellent and amazing 1/3 statues of Superman and Clark Kent, I really wish they'd translate those to 1/6 scale figures. It doesn't even have to be silicone based figure, a plastic one would do fine.
the crazy amount of detail that goes into head sculpts.....it is such a fine Micro line walking the the tightrope achieving the likeness here .At 06:05 you can see the differences cleanly . The comparison side by side, while the artists head sculpt is nice it still falls a little short IMO (the nose bridge and eyes area )...i prefer the HT sculpt more between the two
When you think about it, Superman doesn’t really have to be muscular. He gets his powers from the sun, not from being in the gym. I guess that’s what I always liked about Chris Reeve. It’s not overdone.
Great job, Justin. Sad, it's been 13 years since the original. No 2.0 in sight from Hot Toys, and almost a year since InArt showed theirs with no updates on improvements. Reeve set the bar to be Superman and Superman: The Movie set the bar for superhero films. Feige even said they used Superman to construct the blueprint for the early MCU. Where is the love?
Thank you very much Justin for this video! Although you discontinued BAF episodes, I'm pretty sure that you'll keep on rolling out awesome projects such as this one in the future - All the Best!👍
I love the fabric, and the boots especially. The stitched S is perfect. I love both the Hot Toys and yours. In some pictures and video shots the Hot Toys color is correct and more vibrant, I do think yours is more accurate to the actual color though especially in the first film.
I think this figure is the best existing Superman figure. Aiming to customize this figure. Is the figure body in this video a Hot Toys Superman body? I admire your outstanding sense.

Apparently 130 or so people
I think the new headsculpt is good but what people are noticing is the red paint. I do think the red is a little harsh but other than that it looks good
Perhaps with different painting and lighting, the custom head can look better. The upgraded HT looks perfect IMHO. I do not mind the darker blue. It may be less screen accurate, but it's more 90s Superman, which I personally love. I replaced the arms on both of my HT Superman. I thought they were not muscular enough. Keep those customs coming!
I disagree with the sentiment that the hot toys head sculpt looks better simply because of the expression. I simply feel the custom head sculpt looks considerably less like Christopher Reeve.
The completed figure looks incredible Justin! So good to finally see a Reeve Superman smiling. Suit colour and stitched emblem is gorgeous. The Hot Toys figure was a triumph for the time but badly needs and update. I don't suppose you have any update on the InArt Reeve figure?

I'm with@@jt7440-m7s , I have a HT SUPERMAN and I am stickler to likeness, the custom has been pointed out by many in the comments not having a resemblance of Christopher Reeve. So, either all who say the likeness is off are delusional or just being detached from emotions and being analytical are correct.
Yea I’m not even a Superman fan (as in I’m not familiar with even this movie) but I can tell it’s not the most accurate headsculpt, idk about it being terrible tho, seems “fixable”
The sculpt looks great to me, the smirk screams Reeves Superman that was like is number one gesture when in character as the Man of Steel and personally I think it was captured here beautifully, if anything it adds to the likeness. Maybe it's because of the subtle difference in color between the head and neck that is throwing the likeness off to some people idk Other than that this is MILES better to the Hot toys one.
Also - 13:45, now that you have the custom next to the Hot Toys original, the hot toys horiginal head-sculpt might have a bit of an issue (could be paintjob, or sculpt, I don't have the knowledge to say for sure). Everything is a huge upgrade, don’t let the bad comments bring you down, this is my second favorite custom figure ever after your Clark Kent thanks for the great content and keep up the good work!!!
Thank you!
I think it looks terrible, compared to the stock HT, but all that matters is that you like it…
Sorry it’s not for you

Sorry I’m not feeling that Headsculpt at all
Love everything else though

The custom suit is much better, and looks fantastic. The custom head sculpt though...not so good. I think the Hot Toys head is much stronger.
Sorry it’s not for you.
Only the collar of the cape is a little bit to high, but the figure is perfect accurate. Hi from 🇧🇷🇧🇷
Looks about right to me :)
