Kirstin brings the power! They put her where they need to power up. In Hallelujah, she builds it up so they can all drop out for Mitch's solo. In Amazing Grace, she takes it to its peak, in this one she helps Matt build his momentum belting and took it further herself. It's easy to miss this, but if you start paying attention to WHERE they put her, you'll recognize she brings the power right where it's needed. Tiny pocket Valkyrie is the perfect description!
Let's also hear it for Ben Hausdorf ("Hausdo"), who filmed this! Many of us think of him mainly in his role as Kirstin's partner (now fiance) these days (as well as Elliana's father), but he's a very fine videographer. I love the rapid cuts at the end from one to the other - "in the word that it was forming" - how each one of them shows off the intensity that Viking mentioned.
I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel, and PTX did this song more justice than anyone else. They truly know how to bring out the true meaning in everything they sing!😊
@@timcaldwell5241 I was born March 3rd,1951. I hope you are younger than I am! Lol. I have all of Simon and Garfunkel music, and I treasure it. I still have original 45s, and lps!☺️
"Pausing mid-Mitch is such sacrilege." For a first time listen absolutely agree! Once I've gotten over the chills I'll frequently interrupt all of them to go back and tease out the different parts and harmonies though lol! Part of what I love about PTX is how they manage to fill out the entire spectrum with often just four voices, since Kevin is usually on percussion. Also, the way I like to look at the three big versions of Sound of Silence is the original was the warning, Disturbed's is the anger that the warning wasn't heeded, and PTX's is the hope that people are starting to pay attention.
I kept trying to think, “who did it better?” But this is one song where it feels each version delivers the same message, yet with different meaning. The softness of Simon and Garfunkel giving a warning but assuring us we have time to correct our direction if we make changes now. Then this steady buildup into finally bursting into rage from Disturbed that nobody listened to the warning. And if you watch the official video it ends on this swell as what appears to be an ark sails away. Then the almost mix of both from Pentatonix. A soft rage, teetering on the edge of salvation or permanent collapse. When I started listening to it as a trilogy so to speak, I no longer needed to pick a favorite. It just works.
I was a S&G fan in my teen years and love their version, and I love both the Disturbed and Pentatonix covers for different reasons. The harmonies and dynamics of PTX are superb, and Disturbed captures the darkness of the lyrics better than any version I've heard. You can't miss with any of the three.
That was a wonderful reaction to one of my favourite S&G songs. And you are so right about Kirstie....she sneaks up on you , then totally knocks you on your butt with her strong vocals. Have you checked out Be My Eyes...she's the lead...and it was written by her. Love that you loved Matt's bass for this one. He's so underrated.
This is probably one of my favorite performances of any song ever. It never gets old, gives me goosebumps and almost brings me to tears every time. But then, this song has always resonated with me from the Simon and Garfunkel version
S&G, Disturbed, and Pentatonix all do beautiful versions of this song. S&G have a weary, almost resigned anger to it. Broken, but still defiant. Disturbed is all bubbling rage. Pentatonix has more of an uplifting, Gospel quality with more hope than anything else.
Lovely reaction. And I so agree with you. People get so hung up on what's the best when they're not even competing in the same sport. They are doing similar things but it's like comparing someone skiing long distance, downhill and doing bobsled. Sure, it's gliding in the snow but it's different sports. You might enjoy one more than the other, or even all of them depending on your mood. But it's just... very talented musicians at the top of their game... different games. So just enjoy it!
What a sweet way to say thanks to your wife! I hope tickets magically fall into your lap so you can see them live. I’m not going to pick a favorite from the three renditions. Simon & Garfunkel carry a great deal of nostalgia for me, Disturbed shook me with its emotion and Pentatonix holds my heart today. Love the idea of Kirstie as a pocket Valkyrie, and love your reaction to this song, as always. Peace from Ohio …
Given how much you love Kirstie's voice, have you reacted to their cover of "Say Something?" It's the song that made me fall in love with her voice. Love that you're dreaming about Mitch! Also, how much you appreciate the way they assign elements of the song to exactly the right member for maximum effect. Excellent reaction, as always.
I'm a huge PTX fan, but I have to admit I have never dreamed about them. I love your discoveries as you move through their catalog. I appreciate what a good listener you are and how you share your thoughts about what you are hearing.
It's very sweet of you to want to get tickets for your wife! I'm happy to see you fanboying over Kirsty. Her voice sounds like a blade, I love the way you can hear it cut through all the male voices. And Matt definitely deserves props, especially for the way he can sound like an instrument. As soon as his voice drops into the bass range it stops being a voice, and becomes a cello, synth, guitar or standing bass. I love PTX original songs (try 'Love Again', 'A Little Space ft Ateez' 'Coffee In Bed', 'Can't Sleep Love ', 'Sing' or 'Be My Eyes') and I also love the Superfruit album. Try 'Future Friends', 'Worth It (Perfect)', 'Vacation' or 'Hurry Up'.
Love this version!!! I agree with you completely about Matt. He does an amazing job pushing the songs along with Kevin. Love your reactions! They are so full of excitement and joy! By the way, you need to check out their cover of The Greatest Show and Mitch's cover of Your Power by Billie Eilish!!!
I love this version of this song and although mitch is and always will be my favorite, I actually loved Matt best here. That note he hits with "saw" is melting amazing and only makes me want to hear him take solos more often. And word of advice when you say you should know what to expect by now. Don't try. They will always zig when you thought they'd zag as rarely will they do a song that's expected. Their ability to switch genres, styles and pass the lead singer baton between members is what separates them from all other acapella groups.
If i compare the Disturbed version and the Pentatonix version, i feel Disturbed's version is darker. It emphasizes the hopelessness of where humanity is today. The deafness of humanity being so divided into us vs them. Pentatonix's version feels lighter. It feels like even though humanity is divided and seemingly constantly fighting, there is a hope. There is a future we can all strive for.
Welcome to the long winding road of Pentatonix, you are in for the journey of your life 😊 Pentatonix never ceases to amaze me, at just how incredibly talented they are, and take their voices to newer levels, we have never heard before.....there is something so special about their ability, to tell the songs story, allowing us to listen with a new perspective, and hear & feel emotions, we may not have heard from the original artist 💖💖💖 Not only their voices, but their delivery is also their gift!
This was TRULY a WONDERFUL reaction to this amazing song.. This was done oh so well I do agree though that The Prayer was a creation of EPIC proportion.
My fav is 'Mary, did you know?' & Kevin, the beat boxer sings in it & he has the voice on an angel too. These guys are gifted singers & I love everything they do. Enjoy you, as well.
Many thanks to Simon & Garfunkel, they have a huge catalogue of work and have influenced MANY current artists.....thanks to them for writing and recording this classic first over 50 years ago, warning us to not turn our backs on the world and it's willingness to embrace "SILENCE"........they made it possible for Disturbed, Pentatonix and others to re-interpret this great piece of music......
I absolutely love and adore Pentatonix! Seeing them live has been on my bucket list for a long time and when they came to Nashville in December 2022, my husband got tickets. They are even more impressive and fantastic live! The show I went to was a Christmas spectacular (understatement) but I would like to see them singing “regular” stuff too. In fact, they are one of the very very few people at all I’d go see as many times as I could no matter what they are singing or doing.
Thank you for the great reaction to this beautiful Pentatonix video. Glad that you enjoyed it. They are incredible. Thanks also for the Kirstin and Matt appreciation comments. I always notice what they are doing but some reactors don't seem willing to pay attention to every member of the band. I enjoy your reactions. Subscribed.
I actually know of some listeners who think Matt is another beatboxer, because he's so subtle with his bass. They see him in perfect synchronization with Kevin and think he must be beatboxing along with Kevin, never realizing that the reason Kevin's beatboxing feels so full is that Matt is adding bass to it. With a more usual band it's easy - the bassist is playing a bass guitar or something similar, and the percussionist has a drum kit, but with Pentatonix it isn't so obvious, at least, until Matt takes a solo. With Avi it was always obvious - you heard him as soon as he started. People would swoon over Avi's bass accompaniment, to the detriment of whoever was actually singing the solo. But not Matt. He's always there, in the background, making everyone else sound as good as they truly are, to the point that people don't even realize he's there. But we'd be lost without him; if he stopped singing something would be missing and we'd wonder what happened. As usual, your analysis is spot-on. Pentatonix knows exactly what each of them are capable of, and finds a way to make the best use of each member. Some people marvel that we see no egos in Pentatonix; each person gets a chance to shine, with no apparent jealousy. Partly that's because they really are a sort of extended family, with each member beloved by all the others, but it's also because the best thing for Pentatonix as a whole is for each of them to do whatever they do best, and anything that benefits the whole benefits each of them, as well. And they're all intelligent enough to realize this.
I love how much you appreciate Kirstie as she is often somewhat overlooked by reactors. I've often said she has a built-in power dial that she can crank up way past 10 to ramp up the intensity of a song. Just a few of the PTX songs where Kirstie has the lead or a major part are Rather Be, Love Me When I Don't, Be My Eyes, My Favorite Things. There's also Voctive's Disney Love Medley (feat. Kirstin Maldonado & Jeremy Michael Lewis)that will melt our heart. And Todrick Hall's Wizard Of Ahhhs.
Great song and great reaction!! Glad to see your journey. I would like to recommend a couple of songs for you that I think you will really enjoy. PTX....New Rules x Are You That Somebody Can You Feel The Love Tonight (Lion King) Superfruit...Empire Medley (so good) Rise (Katy Perry song with guest singers...awesome!) Thanks again!! Sending you love from Texas!!
"Pausing Mid-Mitch is Sacrilege' LOLOL "Tiny pocket version of a Valkyrie" love it! Kirstie is SO good at belting! If you haven't seen any of their Originals, I would suggest 'Prayers For This World', 'Be My Eyes', or 'Love Me When I Don't'!
This is just as excellent live (Hollywood Bowl version). I didn’t check your playlist, but Shallow and Love Again (original) are 🔥and should be reacted to! Yay, Superfruit🥳-if it isn’t Empire Medley, that should be next- just Mitch and Scott sitting next to each other and blowing what’s left of our PTX/Superfruit battered brains 😁
Fun fact: Kirstin’s fiancé Ben directed this music video. Someone has tickets for the show in Austria that posted with Courtney Ann ( she runs PTX Weekly News UA-cam site). Don’t know if that helps.
When Mitch sings his part, he sings the word "Sound" like like a warm blanket fresh from the dryer wrapping around you. I'm sure it is intentional, I don't know what that technique is called, but I love it. I have watched probably dozens of reactions to this version of the song and I think only one person, a vocal coach drew attention to that one word.
Yes! Agreed that Disturbed did sooo well with their cover of this song! But, Pentatonix reaallllllly made this one hit different!❤ I their version! A warm blanket wrapped around you hehehe!! Goosebumps will be a common phenomenon with the limericks and lyrics of each singer 😊. Waves ebbing and flowing with the perfect resonance!
I know im a little late to this reaction, but I've read somewhere that the three big way these sound is the original S&G sang this as a warning, Disturbed sang this with rage, and the PTX version is sung in Hope. That is just perfect, great reactions, thanks
I've never liked that song with Simon & Garfunkel, and really didn't like it with Disturbed (too angry), but when I heard PTX sing it, I loved it and since then, like that song (but only by them). They are truly the best. Great reaction. BTW, I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but I wanted to mention something that is quite different for PTX. Yes, all their covers are enhancers and their magical strength as a group and individuals is unique, but here is one that I am sure is quite unexpected from them. Their friend Todrick Hall has always loved the classical movie of The Wizard of Oz and has asked PTX to help him do a video to honor and pay tribute to his favorite movie (even including his own little poodle, obviously named Toto). The Wizard of Ahhhhs, is the same story, however, incorporating modern songs to tell the story. Please watch it and you will see what I mean. Of course, if you've seen the original, you will understand this one even more, but please react to this one. Kirsten talents are amazing in this one. Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/QkVeKb2igrg/v-deo.html
This is an amazing song redone by them. I think this was the first time I was blown away y the fact you could hear everyone sing individually even when they sing all sing in harmony. I think it's done more in studio by layering their voices but what ever they do with the sound equipment it only makes these amazing talented people larger.
I enjoy your reaction videos more than any others I have watched. I didn't think anything could make watching Pentatonix videos better, but I was wrong. Please keep reacting to their songs! Have you done their version of Imagine by John Lennon yet? It is a must, and just a tip, keep a box of tissues at hand when you watch it. Thank you so much for your honest, witty, entertaining reactions.
Thanks for another great reaction! I think you will love their cover of Rather Be. Kirstie sings a great lead and the video is lots of fun to watch, they filmed it in Tokyo while they were touring there. Avi was still with them so it’s an older one. LOTS of fun!
Do you think you know the capabilities of the members of Pentatonix? Not even close! Keep listening and reacting to Pentatonix........and learning. I have only listened to about 150 Pentatonix songs on UA-cam and I'm still discovering more. Continue on your journey. There are variations from the members of Pentatonix from solos to duets. All the members of Pentatonix are free to do whatever they want artistically. Mitch and Scott have many videos under the name Super Fruit that are awesome. Kirstie does many singles with Disney artists. Kevin is a wonder on the cello (he was a child prodigy) and has many solo videos.
Misssed *ANOTHER* livestream! Damn!!! Don’t know why I’m not getting the notifications. I love their arrangements and how they each get a chance to shine. This video shows well how Scott covers the bass line while the bass takes the lead. And it also really highlights his baritone range like “The Prayer” does. We need more baritone Scott! After 50 years at the top of my list the S & G version slipped to second place…with the Disturbed version coming in a very distant third. Loving your reactions, thank you. Keep ‘em coming!
This was the first song I heard and video I saw of PTX and have loved them since. I have tickets to see them in a couple of weeks in Manchester, England and can't wait ❤🎼🎵🎶
This comment was made even before you started the track... There is no "better" when comparing completely different genres. I love both the Disturbed AND the Pentatonix versions... just as I love both filet mignon and sauteed scallops.
I have binge watched all your reaction videos to Pentatonix. They bring a huge smile to my face. I wish you had made a video telling us about you and your wife’s experience at their concert. Or maybe I just haven’t found it yet? I love how when you pause the song and go back to point out what you think is important. More than once I heard what you are talking about and I hadn’t before. Please keep reacting to these!
Hi - love your reactions, hence subbed! FYI - there are still a few tickets available for their 2 dates in London (3/4 May) at the Apollo - I'll be there on the 3rd!
….. you need to watch the song that MADE them FAMOUS…I believe it was the first song they came out with…watch “Mary do you know” it’s in a CAVE which makes the song AMAZING…Monique from 🇨🇦
Beautiful as always😀 So Viking do you want to check another version? Different but so beautiful. It’s of course Tommy Johansson’s cover of The sound of silence. He’s vocals here are amazing 😀🇸🇪👍 Ready to be surpriced by Tommy? 😉
You ought to react to their cover of Amazing Grace My Chains are Gone .in that one Kevin will give you a slap in face in end . Of course you'll still get Mitch slapped,Scott kicked and Kristi punch .
You got a new pentaholic subscriber ❤ im going through your playlist from the begining and i juat want to say a few things 1 love your editing 2 love your vulnerability/connection to music/physical reactions 3 love that your not "family friendly" and feel like you cant swear 😂 the genuine "holy shit!" And "Fuck!" That slips out occasionally when you get slammed with .. all of it Ganna go watch this video and a bunch more :)
Also love your panic pausing if anyone gripes about your pausing just remember it's a genuine reaction and that's exactly what this video is about, your reaction. So excited to watch more 😊
I’m happy to read your comments :). I always pride myself on authenticity and honesty and it seems you picked up on it. It feels like validation and I thank you for that! My editing is a balance of me wanting to showcase the video (the true star of the show) as much as I can without taking away from the reaction itself. Glad you approve ;). The vulnerability is simply me living the song without a single care what others may think of me. The connection… has always been there. Music can affect me very deeply on both emotional and physical level. Showing this on video helps me connect to those that share this with me. I love that. And family friendly? NEVER ;)
@@VikingReacts I'm very similar in my reactions to beautiful things, music and otherwise. Pentatonix frequently gives me full body shivers. At one point you in your editing you said ADHD brain go brrrrrr and that they're pure dopamine , I couldn't agree more. I love the simpler duet and music of Simon and Garfunkel's original song. A sort of folk warning by musical geniuses. I really love and appreciate the single artist contribution of David Draiman in Disturbed's version, ( anger we did not heed the warning). His individual vocals are number 1. As a group of 5 with no instruments musically I find PTX version the "best" overall. It has a modern feel but a hopeful and upbeat tone like it is not too late. Listen to them sing near the end during Kirstie's solo where she says "word" and it goes down the line with Scott, then Mitch and then Matt saying "Word". The entire song is powerful and makes the PTX version the overall best. ( in my opinion ) but damn Disturbed was my fav for a long time) Wouldn't it be awesome to have PTX do this with David Draiman?
"Tiny pocket version of a Valkyrie." One of the best descriptions of Kirstie ever.
She really works with all she has supporting others in this and every song.
Agreed. Such a great description of Kirstie ❤

Mitch has invaded a lot of lives with his voice! Nothing feels better than a Mitch-slap! So glad you getting into Superfruit also!!!
PTX....New Rules x Are You That Somebody
Can You Feel The Love Tonight (Lion King)
Superfruit...Empire Medley (so good)
Rise (Katy Perry song with guest singers...awesome!)
Thanks again!!
One of my favourite Ptx songs is "Can't sleep love" which is an original, performed at Popspring 2016.
Love Again is supreme
Scott has an EXTREMELY low range , in fact he covers the base part while Avi sings ( during Hallelujah ) It's so smooth you hardly notice
I clicked like before the AD even started because I’m so glad you did this one! I love your reactions!
Hope you enjoyed it! And thank you for the compliment ❤️
Todd Hoffman sang this song and I really loved it when he sung it the Pentatonix really filled my heart
Fun fact: Kirstin’s fiancé Ben directed this music video.
Someone has tickets for the show in Austria that posted with Courtney Ann ( she runs PTX Weekly News UA-cam site). Don’t know if that helps.
You felt recharged after listening to this? It's indeed what they wanted to bring out with this upgrade - that there is always hope.
Scott is very good at bass. He provides those sounds when Matt (or Avi) are singing their part.
This is so fabulous that we hear each one individually and together, I just want to hug each one 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 Thank you btw please do more 👍🏻👍🏻
I so enjoy your reactions. Yes, the Prayer my favorite also. As well as Amazing Grace.
The first time I heard this was epic! The goosebumps of course, and then all of a sudden I realized I was crying. Again.
The special harmonic treatment of the word "silence" in each verse, ending with the spectacular last chord is soooo amazing!!
You're a wise man, and you're absolutely right about Kirstie
Her belting and beautiful voice is fantastic..
I saw them in Melbourne a few weeks ago and this one had me crying with joy and wonderment
Scott taking over the base is perfect…
I know right!?
Loving your reactions. Thank you. They make me smile whilst going through some darker days. 💜💙❤️
In that case… I’m happy to add some inkling of light :). Stay strong!
I really love when Scott takes over the bass. He just does a great job.
I got lucky and got some as a birthday present for my 12yo. She worships kirstie and mitch.
Someone said that Pentatonix sings feelings. Your dream cracked me up! Hahhahaaa!
"Oh Come All Ye Faithful". I love your reactions. I come back to watch the same ones everyday. Thank you
This comment was made even before you started the track... There is no "better" when comparing completely different genres. I love both the Disturbed AND the Pentatonix versions... just as I love both filet mignon and sauteed scallops.
"Pausing mid-Mitch is sacrilege " 😂 Quote of the day 🙌🏻
I have binge watched all your reaction videos to Pentatonix.
1930s/1940s aurora green lights dance around NYC
Would love to just hear the whole song all at one time it’s beautiful
Hi - love your reactions, hence subbed! FYI - there are still a few tickets available for their 2 dates in London (3/4 May) at the Apollo - I'll be there on the 3rd!
I always listen to the Bass 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You really need to review Disturbed singing The Sound of Silence live on Conan! Best cover of this song by far!
You need to see them live, they are insane. For a full on Live taste do their Popspring 2016, 4 originals live. Gives you a great view. loved this.
….. you need to watch the song that MADE them FAMOUS…I believe it was the first song they came out with…watch “Mary do you know” it’s in a CAVE which makes the song AMAZING…Monique from 🇨🇦
Disturbed version is good too
I know ;). Can’t do a reaction to it as I know it very well and love it likewise.
@@VikingReacts I grew up with the originals so am still a bit biased to any remakes
Oops, I meant the word sound of course!!
OMG!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 This version is phenomenal and now my new favorite but you should listen to this version by DISTURBED!! His version gives you goosebumps!!
Beautiful as always😀 So Viking do you want to check another version? Different but so beautiful. It’s of course Tommy Johansson’s cover of The sound of silence. He’s vocals here are amazing 😀🇸🇪👍 Ready to be surpriced by Tommy? 😉
Lifetime
So great
kirstie is my favorite, so i'm always like you in this video waiting for her moment
You ought to react to their cover of Amazing Grace My Chains are Gone .in that one Kevin will give you a slap in face in end . Of course you'll still get Mitch slapped,Scott kicked and Kristi punch .
I did ;)
Too fun. Thank you so much.
You got a new pentaholic subscriber ❤ im going through your playlist from the begining and i juat want to say a few things
1 love your editing
2 love your vulnerability/connection to music/physical reactions
3 love that your not "family friendly" and feel like you cant swear 😂 the genuine "holy shit!" And "Fuck!" That slips out occasionally when you get slammed with .. all of it
Ganna go watch this video and a bunch more :)
It is truly such a delight to see your full range of emotions as you watch them. You're one of the first that i find myself rewinding because I have to watch you again , I've started to Sir. Backsalot your videos ;)
To people who have gotten some if the most ' God Aweful' jobs ever, 👍
Love this song, great reaction❤you need to check out their cover of "Gold" by Kiiara.
( in my opinion ) but damn Disturbed was my fav for a long time)
Wouldn't it be awesome to have PTX do this with David Draiman?
Love your reaction!
