- This year's dahlia patch is going to be EPIC! Join me as I share tips on how to plant and support your dahlias no matter how many you are growing. Since I'm growing these flowers for my wedding later this year, I'm taking extra care in making sure they are properly supported. I don't want any summer storms to damage them!

Wow
You can always add a few more stakes and cut down the middle of support net to add a pathway.
I've got 140 dahlias, various varieties as usual, in the ground this year. One early variety is beginning to bloom now. Like you said dahlias bloom until late autumn and first frost. Dahlias are so gorgeous and I'm never disappointed with them. Good luck with yours. Cheers!
❤❤❤
Waw ♥️
Goood
Excellent ❤🎉
Can't wait to see all the Dahlia's bloom.
Your Dahlia bed will be lovely! I learned a lot today about growing them . Thank you!
Very beautiful
Hi Katrina, your garden is looking beautiful! It's very hot here in Texas and we are coming to the end of the summer garden. It's been a heat wave and temp are around 120 to 106 for several weeks. We are looking forward to our trip this October to the Cotswolds for a week. We love to visit England every year and this year we will spend a few days in Scotland as well. Looking forward to seeing your Dahlia plants bloom. Blessings, Rochelle

♥️
I look forward to seeing them all in bloom!
I do hope you start a Patreon one day. That's where I support my favorite YTers and you are high on my list. 🙂
Thanks for watching! I keep looking at Patreon but get in a fluster about what I should be offering people so I don’t set it up 😩 One day!
Great job Katrina! Your display will be gorgeous for your wedding!
I planted my cafe au lait two weeks ago. Can’t wait to see them bloom! Hope you had a lovely sunny day! ❤from Jersey Channel Islands 🇯🇪

good job 👍
Hey Katrina, That looks marvelous so very impressive. Can't wait to see them bloom and flower. The netting is a fabulous idea. Thank you for the video and doing it as you do yours because I am growing some this year for the first time and this week I will get mine into the ground. Peace and blessing bye for now
Wow, 45 plants! My two are flowering already it's just been so warm.
Very nice!

So lovely, your bouquet will be gorgeous. I use tomato cages for support, it doesn't take long for the foliage to hide them. Couldn't help but notice the foxglove, it is my favorite after all, those long stems much have looked stunning 😊
Hey Wendy! The foxglove this year have been incredible. I’m going to save the seed again to see if I can keep growing 8ft ones 😆

So exciting, can't wait to see those lovely colours
My climate is similar to UK and my dahlias are blooming already 😍
Right at the beginning you have a Buddleja globosa. I'm lucky in that my neighbour's spills over my fence. Need to take cuttings.
Great video as always.
I guess you must know this already; but I spotted you in Gardener's World two Fridays ago during the special program dedicated to their show exhibition. Least I'm 99% certain it was you.
I'm doing all my Dahlias in pots this year bar one due to rabbits. One of my favourite plants.
I LOVE this Buddleja! I’ve actually just cut it for drying. Yes it was me on the show for a few seconds, well spotted 😁
I'm trying to grow Acocotli (Dahlias) for the purpose of their root tuber as food, which is why the Aztec domesticate them. It an experiment for now, but I'm sure your video will help me learn how to begin it.

Excellent Katrina, that main bed is going to look amazing, looking forward to seeing it in full bloom. We lost quite a few Dahlias this year sadly, so will be restocking next year, so I'll be taking note of names !
Btw, Spear & Jackson make a light weight long reach pruner which I find really useful for deadheading, as it holds on to the cut stem so you can retrieve the spent bloom !
So exciting!
Thank you for sharing your joy and your flowers, insects, birds etc. I realy appreciate it 🙏🦋🌷🦋🙏
Thank you so much for your support! 💕
It's heartening to see yours are a similar size to mine (I'm also in the Midlands), as mine have been getting battered by slugs and I thought they were behind! I've put holly and recycled wool around them this weekend to try and keep the slugs off them and help the really chewed specimens to recover! I'm so excited to see your wedding flowers, it's amazing that you're taking that on as a project.
Thanks Katrina, that's inspired me to pop up to my allotment and give my dahlia's some love! A bit of staking
Woohoo 🙌 Get them in nice and early before they get too big. It’s already a bit windy out there today 👀
I thought I was late getting mine in the ground so reassuring to know I'm not. One thing has occurred to me though, having watched this, I've planted mine much further apart than I probably needed to! Not to worry I guess, I can fill in the gaps.
Better to give them room than not enough! The biggest varieties really do like their space. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic work I'm sure you will have an avalanche of blooms. Thanks for the tips on location and downside of straw near dahlia plants. Your so lucky to have the space. I have to compete with my other half on garden spaces 😂😂
Beautiful garden 🪴🌱
truly wonderful Katrina...
I am using some similar netting this year for the first time. So far so good. 😊
Looking forward to the video where you army crawl under the net ! Im sure youll figure it out! Looking forward to seeing them all blooming en-masse! I left mine in last year and two are coming back...in clay soil in yorkshire! I cant believe it!
nice , they are really coming on
💞💞💞💞💞👍👍👍
Thank you for inspiration! 🏵️🌺🌿💚
Merci pour cette belle vidéo ❤
Ohhh strange, I have two dahlias both in bloom already, must be earlier blooming varieties.
(Cambridgeshire)
Fantastic top planting 😊
🥰
How do you keep bugs from eating your dahlia flowers? I have beautiful flowering dahlias (my first year growing them - 11 plants) but I have bugs eating the flowers before they are open able to cut for vases. I would love any nontoxic options people have found to work.
Do snails and slugs attack them when they're that big??growing them for the first time this year....in pots...were already attacked by black aphids...dealt with those with black soap...fingers and a paintbrush....and cut some flowers shoot that were going black.....so i thi k they might be happier in the ground....but i'm afraid of slugs😂good luck with yours, will be following the progresses ...i've started to give mine a very diluted organic tomatoe feed....
Curious as to how you will reach the centre ones, to harvest 🤔
Leaning 😅 I may have to chop the net and make a path. Didn’t think that one through did I!
So excited for you! I wish I was into gardening at the time of my wedding because I would have loved to grow my own wedding flowers. I would have only needed enough for my bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets and boutonnières. Now I can grow them for my little sisters wedding. Can’t wait to see your bouquets!
Hi! What are the flowers in the foreground in some of the shots please? (With small orange globes)
That’s a Buddleja globosa! 🧡 Cute aren’t they? The bees love them too.
@@homegrowngarden ahh, thanks a lot for the reply! Did you grow from seed or buy a plant?
@@yousefosman9051 I bought the plant. Don’t be fooled by it’s tiny size, it will be a massive shrub one day! I haven’t planted mine in the ground yet, it’s still in the pot I bought it.
🌈💚🍀
Where do you buy your dahlias from please? ❤️
Farmergracy
My dahlia's are already blooming away for a week or two.
That’s great! Mine are a bit behind as I pinched them out later this year.
@@homegrowngarden I didn't pinch them out, might try that next year, but I did plant pot them in the greenhouse quite early in April and into the garden in May. Thank you for this very helpfull video! you inspired me to grow dahlias. This is the first year I am growing dahlias. I am afraid that it may prove to be additive.
Mine are blooming too and I pinched them as well.
I saw this thing about putting the cut Dahlias in almost boiling water before cooling them for a longer vase life -- (how) does this work?
Hope they grow well!
Heya! Yes it’s a process called ‘searing’ you dip the freshly cut stems into boiling water for 30 seconds or so and it increases the surface area available for water uptake 🙂
"My Love is going to be the first in the ground". Eek😐
Omg 💀 🤣
