Would you ever considering placing your stems in hot water for an hour like some other resources have stated?
Thank you for the informative, gorgeous video of these flowers. I enjoy watching updates of your garden. 😍

      Thanks for following our journey!
I've never used the hot water method, although I know it is recommended by Floret. The method is a lot of extra labor to do when you are processing hundreds or thousands of stems at a time. It can also be challenging to keep the flower heads out of the steam that comes off the hot water, which ruins them instantly. I've had better luck just keeping our customers informed about dahlia vase life and ensuring they hold realistic expectations of how long their dahlias will last in the vase. If you're using dahlias in mixed bouquets, one strategy is to offer a few bouquets that don't have dahlias and will last longer than a dahlia mixed bouquet. (Sunflower mixed bouquets are my go to for this.) This way your customer has options if vase life is their most important quality when flower shopping.
If you're just growing for personal use, I say give the hot water method a try and see if it is worth the little bit of extra labor to you! If you do try it, report back and let me know how it goes!

@@PopsFlowers Well, it’s been a pleasure watching your videos so thank you for making them. ☺️
Yes, I’ll test the steam method for the dahlias I’m growing next year. I decided to try some from seeds after spending way too much money on tubers so we’ll see how things turn out. 🤞
You make an excellent point about how steam might affect the dahlia petals. Thanks for the tip about the sunflower option and how to manage customer expectations.
      Have a nice weekend!
