I have playing with some ideas for the Chevy C10 Shop Truck and a vinyl wrap was one of them...so I had to try it.

I have done wraps before and if you use a spray bottle with a little dish soap and water in it and wet your area down before you apply the vinyl it truly helps with the application of it. you can slide the vinyl to desired location instead up pulling it back up and then just squeegee the water out from behind it after you get it where you want it and use the heat gun when needed.
This particular material is not meant to be used with liquid
looked good the way it was at the beginning.
I watched this when you first put it up. at the time I was trying to figure out what to do with my fiberglass dash cover for my VW bug. I didn't want to get too carried away on it. I never really considered vynil wrap. and I think the brushed metal will work perfectly. great idea, thanks for sharing. I think your truck would look sharp I like the embossed effect too. I ordered a German Eagle/VW decal too, I think will look sharp.
awesome. If you have social tag me in some finished product pics
Personally I think you did fairly well for your first time wrapping a vehicle.. We all start at the beginning....
for sure
8:10 what?
It took me awhile to figure out the difference between the two paint and wrap I appreciate you showing us your first attempt, and although I don't think it's that much of an improvement to Merritt putting in the effort for you to do it it's good practice and it sucks people in the comments didn't get it.
The paint is better than the rap but a different more expensive wrap or LOL I don't know Flex Seal be cool to see
Amazing how much closed minded negative feedback there is on this video. You can tell who are not fabricators. The ones that used their imagination to understand the purpose of this video and see what it could be have the right mindset to fabricate and build awesomeness. The negative comments completely overlooked the purpose of this video and dialed in on the defects in the material that he already warned you was crap and being used for a test. The best sense that I can make is that those negative people are probably only here looking for "Vinyl Wrap" videos and are not your Fabricating brothers.
Keep up the good work brotha and Keep on Wrenchin!
Haters gonna hate
awesome video I'm going to wrap my 99 yukon thats all i needed to see i didn't have a "test Piece" so he let me use his and the decal behind it simply beautiful and got my creative gears turning
I have been welding and fabricating for the last 20 years, my Neices husband dose that wrapped for a living in the bay are of California he does that on building's BART TRAIN station what not. It's his truck he can do what he wants it will always come off eventually. My self I would not put it on any of my rides. To each as own that's what I like about the transportation auto world everyone has there own vision what why how it should look or be and believe me I live in California and I seen many many diffrent builds paints and anything else you can put on a transportation. I even watched men paint jet plane's then use that plastic wrap to put it on but they put some kinda coating over it to protect it from the high winds and weather even aircraft paint is diffrent from automotive paint.
Thank you for the up-close footage of trying to get the air out and of the effects of the heat gun!
Even though this was just to test it out and it’s not perfect, I could see you trying different methods and working around stuff and I honestly feel like I learned a lot here!
+Kristin Rush no prob
I really like the look of that wrap.
Putting it over the decal to create a raised writing look looks awesome too. Gave me some great ideas with this vid!
thanks dude
I like that look. Might use it on the factory five GTM SUPERCAR I'm building now. It would be a good protector during road testing prior to final body and painting process.
+9th Delta Concepts love those cars
I commend the man on tryin!! Like the vids. You inspire me!!
Saw a truck sprayed with reflex boxliner looked awesome, I had my rims sprayed also front of hood and back of vehicle
hmmmm
I like the brushed look. I did some of the carbon fiber vinyl on some of the interior parts on the 2JZ 65 mustang... seem like the CF vynil is kind of a played out look now, but I like how that looks on the C10, good stuff!
+🔥Ramsey Customs - turbocobra Yeah...you can pull carbon off if its classy. I think some killed it by putting it on everything
good job! wrapping takes a lot of time and patience, looks pretty good!
thanks man
Definitely easier than a paint job and cheaper and faster. I used the same vinyl except it was a silver color on the accent pieces on the interior of my Silverado and it looks very nice. That would look killer on your truck for sure.
+Tim datoolman Yeah I could see it looking really good on interior parts
cool video all the way around. music, footage, work, etc..
Thanks
I'm subbing for sure this is the best channel ever love it man keep it up
+Junior Soria awesome...thanks. Welcome to the fabrication nation
I have a 66. I am looking at putting stock take off 6 lug wheels on it. Do you have spacers or adapters on the truck or are those wheels on the disks/drums? thanks
+Joshua Rumsey I have some spacers on the rear. The truck is 5 lug
And advice on making custom brackets? I'm fitting plastics a few years newer then my dirt bike and need to make a bracket or two and have no clue on how I could go about making one
Thin steel or aluminum stock, bend it up in a bench vise, drill it out and secure it with pop rivets. You can get everything at a big box store.
What wheels are those? When I bought a chevy s10 it came with those exact wheels, but obviously smaller because it’s a little truck, but they rubbed hard so I sold them. Just curious. Kind of wondering if they were worth anything or not
+Gabriel Konrad not sure...not very good weels
on older paint do you know if it should be waxed before putting on vinyl?
no idea
I like the fab forums sticker under the wrap. makes it look like it's embossed into the steel.
+djonesy597 Yeah it looks sick in person. Film doesnt do it justice
Thats awesome what you did with that Decal underneath the wrap! I like the process of experimenting, so this video is good value Cheers! (:
thanks
Dont listen to all cyber bad asses! This was to get to know the vinyl and see if you liked the texture and look. Ive been flirting with this stuff as well. Might wrap the silverfox.
Keep on keeping on!
+Steven Schweigert yeah for sure... they don't faze me.
you not only do extremly good work but you seem to find some of the best dam music
lol....thanks. I try hard to find what I can. Believe it or not it is real hard to find good royalty free music
Any chance someone could tell me how to bend thick 1/8 aluminum without cracking it on the fold? I am trying to bend it around for some Jeep rear corners.
+das hasguns Sounds like you have the wrong kind of aluminum. They make it different alloys and some are brittle and are very plyable
keeping mind the condition of the wrap, turned out very good.. i had thoughts about doing the same thing to my Suburban
yeah the material it self was hammered
you still did a very good job. looks easier as a two man job XD.
For years and years ive wanted that generation of truck. Well.....pretty much.....I want that truck just the way you have it there. With all the custom bits. I personally, money aside, want it on airbags. Sort of something to take to car show from time to time.
+jesse foulk Yeah this truck may end up on bags at some point...maybe a winter project
hermosa camioneta, y muy buen trabajo!!. saludos.
+celso guajardo villarreal gracias
wow, beautiful truck, i love it.
thanks
I wonder how it would look if you sticker-bombed the body prior to laying that wrap on.
how much sheet required?
Did I miss something? What happened to Crown Spoyal?
+Terrell Johnson lol....I sold it at the end of last summer
How did you modify those seats to fit in your truck?
You only have to drill new bolt holes in the floor
I'm old fashion , solid paint job with clear cover coats are for me..
john Fetzer me too. No replacement for a gorgeous paint job but if the body isn’t absolutely perfect my blood boils.
Just watched your vinyl wrap I believe there is a spray on type mask up then spray and if you don't like it or you want to change the colour down the track it just peels off worth having a look so far liking the videos so far new friend from the land down under .. Sherif
yeah I think you are referring to something like plasti-dip. I have considered it but you cant get the brushed look like you can with vinyl
How come soapy water isn't used like when you do tinted windows?
+Brown Suspenders different kind of material
What kind of seats do you have on that truck
they are late model silverado seats
kindah looks nice
you where realy working that foil and i think this is one of the eazier spots to have it lay flat without wrinkles , i think you be foaming at the mouth once you get near the upper front corners (hood and coupound curves toward the headlights )
i would set the truck in the sun for a while so you see if the the foil will lift from the inner corners like on the flare out of the fenderflare , there variations in quality and most of that is to the gleu they use and the UV resistance
like the ghosting logo too
since the truck is prolly going to represent youre company you might want to consider getting help from someone in the trade to at least do the harder to form stuff and give you some pointers on the rest it allso be handy for holding up and sticking the huge sheets ontoo the truck once the backing is removed
I was to slow in getting to the web site to get a hat you are sold out. I will keep checking. The wrap on the truck looks nice. love your videos. i look forward to Fridays. It Friday fool you need this tool
+Philip Stamm Dont worry I will have more and I will be sure to let everyone know a few days before they drop
That embossing theme is cool as sh*t btw, seeing more and more of it in the industry
yeah I like the idea
does it have the original bench seat?
+Baily Davis no its some buckets out of a 07-13 silverado
Anyone know what wheels he has ? Need them for my 90 C1500 project
+BlackHawk i will sell you these
cool have to try it out.
does the truck only have the base coat
+Victor Baez no its what they call hot rod black....basically a semi gloss
Compliments on the music , who is the track by ?
+JDM Daily Its from www.hustlestandard.com/#stw
Does this work on plywood?
sure
Little Rob Bailey & The Hustle Standard! Nice!
dats right!
What's the original color? Type of black?
semi gloss...I think they call it hot rod black
I like that you admit you're skill level might not be good enough. Most guys act like they can do it all on here. It takes a better man to admit that, and I appreciate you for it. Keep up the good work and awesome videos!
+memorynscars1985 lol...I keep it real on here
no, it did not turn out well...
+Ron Todd lol...it turned out awesome
+The Fab Forums I love most of your videos but, unfortunately this did not turn out as good as it could have. I've wrapped cars for 11 years and at some point i'll have some videos on youtube.
+Ron Todd i dont think he was going for the professional douchebag look or act. At the beginning he said he only wanted to see how the contours looked. The vinyl was damaged so its obviously not permanent or perfected.
ops looks like your right.
looks like a trash bag melted to the truck
Haha this is actually good one, I didn't read comments! Keep it up!
What kind of seats are those?
+Chevy Jerry they are out of a 07+ silverado I think
what's the name of the background music band
www.hustlestandard.com
that's so sick brother I like the look!
+RICK MCK thanks..look even better in person. not sure I could pull the whole truck off though
+The Fab Forums the whole truck will be sick but some insert panels will look sick to
im extremely jealous of those people that have multiple car garages or just a garage that is in the back yard and not attached to the house.
+hudson fox Its nice to have for sure
Jealousy is not good
just buy a garage from amazon..
Looks pretty good. I love the matte black look stock tho. That thing is in damn good condition for a 'shop truck' - how much you pick it up for if you don't mind me asking?
+MrSlowestD16 Thanks...under 10
+The Fab Forums Oh man, I'd say you did good then! Based on what I'm seeing that thing looks pretty cherry. Nice looking truck, congrats on the purchase!
Yea, the wrap looks good, but the matte paint that's on there now looks better, in my opinion.
+MrSlowestD16 Thanks....the matte would look good it it was constant. I may just re spray it.
Wraps r cool but what about under the hood door jam n inside of turks it just reminds me of a halk ass paint job
+Jason Bitzer yeah
"Dont really want to put to much into this truckm its just a shop truck"
Those rims are worth more than my current project all together. lol
lol
And probably the truck
Bullshit that's a clean truck.
John Kukic ???
I didnt say it wasn't.
It's late my bad I thought you said the rims were worth more then his truck haha
That gives me an idea thanks good job
Thanks
Clean ass shop truck! Man that stuff is pretty much like laying tint. Try a soapy water solution. Not too soapy, just a little soapy. Keep the sticky side wet then squeegee and heat the bubbles out. Gotta be clean, clean, clean too! Air hose get the lint off. I hate laying anything like that.
a tip from when I was doing window tint ,get some baby shampoo mixed with water in a spray bottle ,spray the panel first then lay it down and push the air pockets to the edges
that would be cool if this stuff worked like that. almost 100% of wrap material is designed to be applied dry
I didnt realise, i have only done small sections ,it looks pretty decent for a test section ,keep on experimenting . I spend hours looking at my project working out how i can modify further
Kyle,
I like the fab sticker idea. I'm not sure I like the wrap, if it's going to be a shop truck change the wheels to a vintage style and go with a distressed paint. like scuff it up in some places. Just a thought.
+RichyA Antonini I like that look...The Crown Spoyal build I did was that way. The problem is that this truck has too much modern stuff to do that. When I say shop truck, I mean actual shop truck...not just the old shop truck look.
This vid gave me flashbacks of when I tinted my car windows back in high school.
I don't have the patience to learn, and would gladly pay a professional if the price were right.
+Speedstack21 Yeah it is time consuming for sure
Can soapy water be used on these vinyl sheets?
+Jm Jpm no its meant to be installed dry
Nope
I think the truck would turn out cool, and that's not bad for a 1st try man, keep it up
thanks
what song is that?
+minisaba87 Plan My Attack by Rob Bailey & The Hustle Standard. www.hustlestandard.com/#stw
nice truck man i love it 👍
Thanks
What wheels are those ??
Not sure....22 inch something.
What kind of seats are in black pearl?
2007ish silverado seats
The Fab Forums Awesome....thanks! I'm starting on 70 c10 and looking for seat options.
I sit back and look at mine the way you do
Need to spray a bit of water before you apply it helps it be movable. U can also mix a little but of baby shampoo with water in a spray bottle and spray section lay it and smooth it as u do push the water out
nah this is made to apply dry
spraying the surface down with soapy water and squeegie it out …and do it in the shade…remember the old days they used wood grain did thousands of em.
this stuff is made to be put on dry
interesting I once owned a wave runner I had some new decals put on it they were vinyl I took it to a local sign company to have them put it on they used soapy water
+Milton Fludgecow yeah this stuff isn't like the vinyl you make stickers out of...its made just for wrapping cars
whats the song in this vid
www.hustlestandard.com
check out some videos on how to apply that stuff. might need some help from a friend or two for easy application
I have watched some in the past
I like it. What's the name of the song.
plan my attack www.hustlestandard.com
That truck is smoooooth.
+M Bell Thanks
You did a great job, especially because you worked alone.
thanks
you do it like me we have that natural touch unlike others
+the real Andrew Harvey lol
Never knew you couldn't do that to a vehicle nice thank you for letting us know one thing I would think it could help you out next time never done what you're doing with the vehicle but a floor squeegee for the floors to push water out take the handle off and it's wide enough for your needs does not scratch👍🏼👍🏼up
I love the song you used
thanks
why don't u try plasti dip it's pretty resilient and I've been seeing that there's alot of new and super different colors u can go with and also just like vinyl u can peel it off and change it as u like
+1 thought the same thing
+Andy Its on my list of options
I am so glad I know how to paint .
great music, patience and attitude. you should have a show on tv. It seems like a pain in the ass though.
Thanks man. I was a pain but probably not as bad as it looks
Music. Rob Bailey?
+Timothy Lingo yeah Rob Bailey & The Hustle Standard
I did a full wrap on my car. You can wrap the car with great results if you buy the good stuff and just approach it the right way.
Thats what I keep hearing. What brand did you use?
+The Fab Forums 3m 1080
got it....thanks
holy crap, you are an awesome welder, stay there.
that would be no fun
Have you ever thought about plasti dip?
+Sleepy SRT I have...its still on the list of options
+The Fab Forums good call. its very easy and looks good when its done correctly
Thank's for sharing Bubba.
no problem
It looks sick you should do the hole truck....
+Dmatic89 Its on the list of options
always glass it for a better fit! itll cut your time in half doin it like thay instead of throwin it in there.
nice mang 👌
Turned out really well 😆🤣
Change the rims.......
+sparkyguy277 yeah its on the list
+sparkyguy277 What he said. Needs more of a vintage style wheel!!
+The Fab Forums Just plasticoat them black, would look sleek
+Joe G I actully going to try that before I buy some new ones
and i was thinking of doing this to a crew cab long bed umm
your truck is beautiful ♥
thanks man
You are crazy dude but I understand that you want to play, and the good thing is that you can remove the wrap any time so what's the big deal with all this heaters? 👍🏻👍🏻 for you
Nice truck. practice makes perfect. start the from the middle of the panel next time, whole lot easier to work outwards.
will do...thanks
If you sprayed the truck with soapy water it would a a lot easier to work with .. Then use a squeegee to push the water out from under the wrap ... It also helps prevent air pockets under the wrap that are a pain to remove ..
I get this a lot...but true wrap material is not meant to be used with any liquid.
gotcha
