I look forward to next week’s lettering lesson. I used to do a little pen calligraphy many years ago, with varying levels of success, and I’ve enjoyed watching those letters pour out of your bur on some of your earlier clips, you make it look so fluid and easy. Which is the mark of an expert!

Thanks for the great tips! I just stumbled upon this video. I need to watch your previous videos to catch up! The information and close-up shots are greatly appreciated.
(I am a newbie to engraving).

looks like I also managed to get some carbide HP35 burrs - 👍👍. Thanks Mate for the tips on how to resharpen the burrs

Very interesting watching the reverse conical burrs being resharpened. Wouldn’t have occurred to me that they could be rejuvenated in that fashion.

At 11:15 you can see the rubber center section is bulging out, (not truly cylindrical), thereby gripping the band. Tightening the center screw makes the center bulge more and grip the band tighter, therefor, loosening the center screw should release the band. If the band is still tight, you could run the mandrel and rubber without a band and shave the rubber bulging area with a razor blade or maybe grind it with a burr in a 2nd rotary tool while this is spinning 10,000 rpm in the first rotary tool. Good Luck!

Thanks john, yeah loosening the screw should release the band but mine seem to become stuck. Maybe theres different quality mandrel systems, mines cheap, cheers

At first I thought the tools for wax were used hot. Then I was startled by the thought of how far they'd probably fling wax flakes. Then I saw it, and I was amused. I grant you if I was the one who had to clean them up it wouldn't have been quite as funny.
Thank you for all the insight. Have you seen a handpiece that rotates in both directions? It might be a consideration for left-handed me if I go shopping for one.

Thanks jim, umm, these micromotor handpieces do turn the other way but the inverted cone dental burrs only cut in one direction, engraving 1 vid has some detail about why lefties cant engrave but if you can crack it left handed that'll be awesome to see, all the best, cheers

Lost wax casting?....You make jewelry also? (I have made a video on dremel toolage) I use them all the time. Never realized till I saw you that they can be used for engraving. I can't wait....Ordered some parts to mod my hand piece...coming from China...I will be looking in other places in the mean time...China delivery has been taking months since covid.

Yeah I've dabbled with all sorts of stuff, those homey cutters were for sculpting wax for a knife guard about 70mm wide. Then I take it to a manufacturing jeweller for casting.

What would you recommend for very simple and basic engraving on brass? I'm still new and my toolkit is quite limited, but I'd really like to add some cute faces to my fork elephants and spoon mice!

There are many rotary tools online which come with accessories at reasonable prices. I dont know how good or bad they are, you could also check youtube for product reviews.

Thanks for all the tips on sourcing types of burrs and uses, and particularly touching them up on a grinder. Have no clue why nomenclature has to be so Obtuse, unrelated and endlessly evolving with no apparent need other than irritate those with common sense...made up by desk jockeys. @¿@ Always appreciate a person of Many skills and Humor!! Hat Tip, ~PJ
