I’ve been skating street for 7 years and I’m still so confused skating transition, this year I’m gonna make more of an effort but even miniramps are deceptively gnarly. It looks so effortless and fun but I take all my worst slams on miniramps

Using the momentum of your fall is actually a great tip. I never really thought about it, but I’ll exaggerate it to the extent where if I fall back, I’ll do a full tumble right back onto my feet, opposed to landing flat. Big fall, minimal pain.

Awesome! Thank for this Chad. Nothing worse that waiting for injuries to heal so you can get back on your board. Planing your bails and learning the fundamentals of the trick = more confidence and less pain🤘

Good to have you back Chad! Been learning lots on my driveway 2ft mini quarters. I've got Rock to Fakies, fakie rocks, tail stalls, and 50-50s down in the past few months. Your videos help a lot! I think rock and rolls are next but can't seem to commit back in on the turn. I'll get there once I get over the fear. lol A real mini ramp would help. Lose a lot of speed on harsh transition and rough driveway.

He could probably explain it better than me but IMO frontside grinds in transition actually are not hard at all, you just have to build up the courage to send one and get past that mental block of coming in blind, and you’ll see that it’s very similar to coming in backside

Thanks for video dude ! I’m on the struggle bus with dropping in on 4 ft mini. I’m 50 now so it hurts a lot more than when I stopped at 30.
I have dropped in on 5 ft but it takes all my concentration. Only been back at it for 4 months so I’m working on it.
Thanks for vids. Keep making them ! Us old dudes are stoked on them. I’m not a gym guy and skating is my only exercise. It’s helped a lot. Blood pressure is down. Feeling good. Riding bowls. So stoked !

As an old guy skating again, the need to bail safely is huge. I learned this the hard way when I first stepped onto the board again after 25 years. Not only that, but I never did much transition skating when I was young. Landing back on the board during a bail is probably my biggest fear because that is what might put me out of commission. Thanks

Great video Chad!!! Helped alot! As a beginner transition skater I struggle with knowing where my trucks and wheels are when in new bowls or ramps. Basically speed gauging is the issue. When I go up to a ramp for even a slash grind I'm not sure how fast/slow I need to go to get it and it takes forever for me to figure it out. I'm guessing that will come with time as I snowboard alot and speech gauging jumps is second nature to me but I have had many more years on snow than concrete

Thanks Chad. This was really helpful. I can only find a few videos about how to fall. It's something I struggle with alot. I wear pads but always find myself falling arms outstretched no matter how many times I tell myself to roll. Maybe because I wear wrist guards I subconsciously use my wrists to fall on as a safety buffer or something like that. A training video on how to roll would be good but I guess it's pretty self explanatory

    • @ericharmon7163
      @ericharmon7163 Рік тому

Me too. If I'm falling forward, it is much easier to roll, but there is still that instinct to stick out your arms. I'm just getting better at tucking. It's the falling backwards that gets me everytime. I'm 48, so I wear pads. Even with wrist guards I've messed up my wrists falling backwards. It's made it hard to attempt the tricks that seem to always lead to those types of falls.

What I'm just starting to figure out that no one seems to talk about is when to put weight on your toes vs your heels and at what point you switch.
I struggled with feebles until I figured out the trick is done with my weight on the back heel and if I shifted my weight to my heel when I hit the coping I could lock it in.
Getting backside grinds seem to be a mix of puting the weight on the toes until I'm over the coping then putting it in my heels to stay on top. I'm sure there's more to it but I think a video on weight distribution for different tricks would be really helpful. I've just started figuring it out and my skating has got way better.

I am 47 and could not imagine to try tricks in a ramp without helmet, wrist guards and pads...of course, if you only skate within your comfort zone, you won't fall very often and can control the bails (but of course not the slams), but when I try something new I couldn't commit to an attempt without knowing to wear pads and helmet. I broke my wrist as a child while jumping over a stair case...wrist guards would have prevented the injury. I am convinced, it could easily happen that you fall on her head in a way you are seriously injured, so I would appreciate if very good skaters, who mostly skate in their videos without protective gear (because they can calculate the risk much better than a beginner) would at least recommend a helmet and pads for beginners and intermediate skaters, and - most of all - for young children. If a child gives lets say in to the group pressure and tries dropping in on a bigger ramp and have for example a wheel bite when hitting the flat, he or she will definitely be brutally smashed into the other transition of the ramp with the head in front - and that could end very bad without a helmet. Especially when skating on concrete. So please, at least mention the purpose of protective gear in your very cool videos! thanks..

Hi from Spain!! Great videos. Why does it feel so diferent to come back in the ramp after a rock to fakie (panic) than after a fakie pop rock (no prob)?? In the theory, they are more or less the same, but in reality, I‘m looking back to the ramp sooner in the second case because I don‘t care so much about the coping and neather about maybe falling, and that helps me to be ready to fall. Addicionaly, I‘m used to roll over my right arm, and, due I‘m goofy footer, increase panic even more when comming back fakie because I don‘t feel I can roll whithout problems if the truck hang up. Cheers!

I see lots of skaters keep themselves inside the ramp and cross-locking as they lock into the stall. is this just timing? Bending knees to absorb rather than trying to stand up too much? Or am I missing something else?

You're getting your weight too much on top of the ramp. You already said it yourself, keep weight more inside the ramp. If you're looking at the ramp from the side, picture your body at an 80ish degree angle from the coping instead of straight up. Get your back truck on and kinda let your body float up the rest of the way into that angle. It might be easier to cross lock but I never do it that way, what really matters is trying to get that back foot heel side wheel pinched and keeping it there, the front truck is irrelavent really

drop your shoulder forward with the commitment of the dropin and follow it with your weight. don't take 100% weight off your backfoot, just ease off and lean into the dropin.

Think about dropping in like your trying to stomp a insect with your leading foot.

I struggle with FS tricks the most on mini-ramp. I neglected it too much in the beginning because BS is way more comfortable for me.
Other than that, I cant figure out how to ollie-to-fakie on mini-ramp at all no matter what I try. Not many good tutorials for that.

Try learning ollie to fakie on a bank first and when u feel comfortable move on to ramps

Buttslide is the worst, ive been trying frontside inverts on concrete bowl, it ripped all of my pants and i had to put huge patches with shoe goo lol, You cant knee slide out of a fs invert!

Not to hate or anything.. but I'd genuinely love to see a video of you performing a FS air, followed by a video of you failing to do an axle stall.. Just doesn't sound realistic to me. FS air is infinitely harder than an axle stall, even if FS is more comfortable for you than BS..
