Chad, I'd like to say that as a 45yo newly-back-in-skating-former-hobby-skater I'm loving your videos. 1) You're a great teacher 2) You're very motivating and encouraging, as you make it look easy, but not braggalicious and watching your videos I know you can back up everything you teach and more. Keep it up!
I’m in the same boat as you (44). I never learned any of these originally and am determined to get some real ramp tricks down. I’d love to invest the time and learn it all. Chad makes it seem something an adult can do.
Great comment. I'm 44 and now getting back into skating. I haven't skated since my teen years. They just built a skatepark nearby and I'm totally giddy about it. These videos are perfect.
@@spitwicked6188 awesome! But I’m not getting back. I’m fully back. Chad hosted Tanner Jam this weekend right on the very ramp in this video. I competed with the 40+ on mini ramp. And although I was the third place out of three, it was huge for me just hearing the crowd get excited for my kick turns and dropping in. I even did a FS 180 power slide as an alternative to kick turn that only usually works on banks or asphalt. I know my skills aren’t destined to reach massive levels but I continue to move forward and any progress is satisfying. I even got some new learns this week. Ollie up and down a curb. Those were scary for me but I’m getting comfortable now. Keep at it. Be mindful of what you’re trying and that it’s stepwise from what you know. I also break down some things into an approach, trick, and exit so that when I maybe do it right, I also know how I’m getting away clean. Good luck!
@@robertborden2666 Congrats! That is so inspirational to hear. I don't think my little skatepark will host any competitions but in the future i might seek out some. I never could have imagined being back on a board at my age. It's a weird sense of freedom. Good luck to you in the future.
A lot of people say the turn in from a FS fifty fifty is the hardest part but I learned that part first by doing fakie fifty fifty's first and obviously turning in FS. So it actually too me longer to learn getting into them FS. My last upload on my channel was me drilling them trying to make them stick back in June last year.
Even for someone who's been skating for a long time and have done these sick tricks for a long time, there is so much in this instructional videos of yours that I can use just to improve. Thanks Chad.

Never seriously skated bowls or ramps in my life but since watching your videos I’ve learned how to front 50 50 and I’m working on frontside and backside 5-0s. It was so hard to get over the fear of leaning back into the ramp but the fly out method gave me the confidence to start trying. Thanks so much for giving me the inspiration and step by step guide. There isn’t a lot of good info on learning to transition skate that are as detailed as yours!!
So refreshing to have actual useful coaching tips in a video. Instead of the million videos that go.... "ride up, pop, lock in, roll away". Keep up the good work!!
the bs 5-0 used to be my fav trick when i used to skate 18years ago. i never knew the name until now. i basicly just watched how other people skated at the park and tried to do the same. Picked up skating just now again at 31 cause my daughter keeps brining me to the park. i remember i used to get alot of nasty hang-ups. now i know why. thanks for your videos. really helps me start skating again 👌
I love coming back to your videos after a few months once I've gotten a few new tricks locked in. They are reminders that next time I need to work on something different. Front and back tails, here I come!
Respect! You can say how you do tricks, that's just awesome. You can discribe in words. And it make tricks a lot easier. Usually I just do tricks and when question 'how' shows, I just answer 'idk', 'it just happened luckily' or 'cause I'm cool' and stuff like that. Thank you, Chad! Great job!
This video is gold! As I do not progress as fast as I want to😂 I can always come back here. Now it’s for the feebles. Last year it was for the 5-0s. You do the tricks so well and the slow motion and where to lock makes it so helpful! Thanks!
Just discovered and subscribed to your channel. I love your series on mini ramp skating. I'm 33 and was never a particularly great skater but always had fun doing it. After basically quitting for a few years, your channel has inspired me to get back out there. Idk if i'll be wearing black dickies down here in florida in the summer, basketball shorts my have to suffice till it cools off ;) Nyja style
The best bro !!!!! Que opinas para hacer esos trucos, ruedas conicas o clasicas , creo que conicas enganchan mejor pero las clasicas deslizan mejor para esos trucos, que opinas? Gracias Maquina
It is dangerous being taught by Chad... makes it seem easy, instills that confidence lol. Then I go try one of these tricks and bust my as on the ramp lol 🤘... all jokes aside Chad has up'd my ramp game. Got me up to the coping and back down. Still having trouble with the actual trick. But with Chad in my pocket, I CAN DO ANYTHING! LOL Appreciate the tips, thanks.
Chad, any tips for old guys getting back into mini-ramp skating with their kids? LOL. Just bought a re-issue Denny Riordan deck and new trucks and wheels since my kids have taken over my old boards. Taking them to the local skatepark tomorrow and hope I still have "it". I'm 48 years old and haven't seriously skated mini-ramps since my mid-30's. Wearing knee pads, helmet and wrist guards (us old guys need them). I have really enjoyed your videos. I was doing these tricks 30 years ago, but I'm not a teenager anymore!!
You make it look so easy... and then you call it EASY tricks. Well... that level you have, is not easy. It is years of falling and getting back up again. Respect!
I gotta learn more mini ramp... I can kick flip to fakie easy and have landed treflip to fakie and switch heel to fakie cuz I skate so much flat ground/street but I suck so bad at actual grinds on the mini 🤦♂️ it’s weird how u can feel so comfortable at one aspect of skating and so novice at another
I do both FS and BS fify fifty's right up into of the platform not hanging onto the wheel edge for BS I don't think I've ever hung up kick turning back in BS and I don't shuffle the truck to the wheel edge like a lot if people do. I think it's because I pivot quite deliberately and tip the board in as I turn so my platform side wheel always misses the coping so I don't hang up. I have hung up plenty of times turning in from a FS if I dint hop enough when I turned.
I recently saw a video of Gonz skating a bowl, and he went up and turned backside to 5-0 stall, and kept rotating to back tail stall, and I was like, that's it!! that's the gateway to back tail stalls and eventually slides, so I learned that 5-0-to-tail thing yesterday
Andy Merkel thank you. Sometimes we just don’t know how to approach a trick having the right mind set. Gonna give it a go... baby step into a trick is a wiser move. One thing that’s scares me is the sliding bit but let’s see. Cheers bro 🙏
I'm pretty solid at street, but man I suck in transition. I mean i can do a rock to fakie, axl stall and shit but i can't have a flowy line. I can do max 1 trick a time. It's so diffrent from street. Just learned backside slash and 50-50. Gonna keep spamming your video's cuz lets be honest, bowl looks way more fun than street :)
Can someone for the love of God explain to me how to stand over the coping when doing axle stalls? I can even backside air sometimes and rock and roll on vert but I can't for the life of me do an axle stall. Basically the board sticks but I stay in the transition and never actually stand on top and I have no idea why, I've been skating for years but have never been able to do it it's fucking frustrating
I practiced going over the coping and onto the deck first, then once I was comfortable going over the coping I started to turn a bit earlier to get on the coping. It went in increments, I started slowly edging from about a 45 degree angle to the coping, to eventually being parallel to the coping. Once you get to parallel, you can then start to turn sooner and end up with the back trucks on the coping with front just off, like a feeble. Then one day you get the front on as well as the back. You'll find yourself coming off the board when you start to land on the coping, because you'll feel you need speed to get up the transition and onto the coping, eventually you'll start to regulate your momentum and arrive at the coping with less speed or anticipate stalling better. Also don't be heavy on the board when trying to get over or on the coping, I kind of just lighten the down force on the board, like going off a ledge or kerb or over a crack, this enables the back truck to pivot smoothly onto the coping. Don't be impatient, it can take someone a few hours or a few weeks or months, my son was about 2 weeks, I was about 4 or 6 weeks, maybe more, someone else I know was about 3 months.
@@vabp8985 I had the same problem, just be light footed and turn your shoulders early, even before your front truck gets to coping, that way your wheels will make a powerslide sound and you will end up right on top, even if going kinda slowly. Don't forget to apply pressure to your heels, or you may overshoot the coping. Very easy to learn if you have a small but steep quarter pipe around, mine was basically a vert wall but only waist high.
Personally, I've found that front side tricks are harder for me to learn because contrary to the name,it feels like your momentum is going behind you. I have a hard time getting over the mental game of not being able to see where I'm going. It's the reason I can't do backflips on the ground, I have a fear of not being able to see my ground clearance and not being able to see where I'm going.
