    I do my "lasso" method a little differently than you do. I come up from the back and pull my thread most of the way through, then put my needle down my next hole and then take my needle and put it through the loop - Not that it's right or wrong - just different. Thread conditioner is something nice to have too in order to keep the thread from getting fuzzy. I lady I used to work with wrote her first cross stitch pattern book. It will release in September. I may try to get it. Thanks. Hugs.

    Thank you!!! I haven’t cross stitched since I was a kid and watched a couple other tutorials and thought I was misremembering. Why is no one making a lasso? Why is no one pulling the floss out to their elbow- this tutorial brought back so many good memories of me and my cousins cross stitching bookmarks. I would like to know of the easiest kit and the basic most helpful materials to order to get me started. I would like to start on a very simple pattern. I have never been one who has found it easy to learn any type of needle craft. I do diamond painting for that reason, but I have always wanted to master some sort of needle craft that I can actually accomplish with very little frustration. As well, you mentioned purchasing some embroidery scissors. I would like to purchase some budget friendly items to get me started and I would also like a kit that uses one strand of the floss doubled like you used in the video. Thanks in advance Rachel.

    Hi Rachel! Thank you for this! I just started cross stitching my absolute beginner project in order to get the basics down before digging in on the Dark Queen SAL. The kit I’m working now has you stitching mini motifs all along the outside on white AIDA. Would greatly appreciate a tutorial on how to move around the cloth without having the colors showing through from the back side if possible. Also would love to understand the difference in materials as noted by Carla Lyon if possible. Thank you again! Love your vlogs!!!!

    I have always wondered what the difference is bwtn cross stich & embroidery. Aren't they kinda the same thing? Do you only do cross stiches in cross stitch whereas embriodery is a lot of different stitches is that correct?

  • @Wendy520May
    @Wendy520May 2 роки тому +1

    The loop method isn't bad on 14 count aida but if you go to 16 or 18 count the tread starts to fray. When manufacturing all the threads go in one direction. When you come back up using the loop method you are going against the lay of the thread and it can start to get fuzzy or frayed looking. Just learned this myself recently and now I can see the difference. My diamond painting has taken a back seat to one day a week. Love cross stitching so much as I can do it pretty much anywhere in the house except if I have fur babies on my lap. lol

  • @kyahrose5261
    @kyahrose5261 3 роки тому

    Good timing on this video! Wolfpack "enabled" me into a Supernatural SAL this week. Soo...yeah! Also, your method of separating threads is soo much easier than how I was trying to do it. So, my question is this...if you are using a combo of colors, say 2 colors (2 strands total), how would you start? Is there a way of starting the stitch without having to tie a knot in the thread (as I have been doing)?

    • @RachelRaeCraft
      @RachelRaeCraft  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, I would recommend either a pin stitch or tucking the strands under 3 in the back, then going back through the third stitch again (in the back) to secure it.

    Here is a cross stitch question... my current WIP calls for 3 strands of floss. So I pull out a length and separate them as usual. What’s your solution for the other 3-strand length that you’re not currently using? Do you add them to the bobbin of that color? I end up with these weird little “orphan” lengths floating around in my project bag! 😂😂

    • @RachelRaeCraft
      @RachelRaeCraft  3 роки тому +2

      I wrap them back on the bobbin or (preferably) toss them in a flossaway bag so I don't have to wind and unwind a bajillion times!

    • @gypsyallie
      @gypsyallie 3 роки тому

      @@RachelRaeCraft Thank you! I think it’s prob time I get some flossaway bags! Yesterday I was stitching near an open windows and my floss literally BLEW AWAY somewhere in my house because they were these little orphaned strands. I will find it like a tumbleweed later on. Lol!

    This is an advanced question but I’ve yet to find the answer. So thought maybe someone will see and know...
    RE: fractional stitches:
    So symbols in a cross stitch box represent the thread to be used and type of stitch when referring to your chart. 1/2 & 1/4 stitches are represented by taking up that particular section of the box with the symbol. So let’s pretend yellow is symbol c and green symbol ♾. The box is left half c and right half ♾ - so that’s the fractional stitch you’d do.
    What if box had 4 small c’s in each corner???
    I have these on a current pattern and it’s driving me 😜 crazy to get the answer....

    • @danielleburwell320
      @danielleburwell320 3 роки тому +1

      I believe that those would be petite stitches. On linen or evenweave it would mean four 1over1 stitches. On aida you'd have to split the middle of the aida thread in the middle. But basically you need four complete crosses in the same amount of space you'd normally have one cross.

    • @ChoochooseU

    • @RachelRaeCraft
      @RachelRaeCraft  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, those are likely petite stitches. It's easiest to do them on linen/evenweave. If you're using Aida you may want a sharp needle.

    • @ChoochooseU
      @ChoochooseU 3 роки тому

      @@RachelRaeCraft the vickery kits come with aida- although very small weave for aida, I think it’s 28ct
      But I normally work 2 over on linen- sooo yes indeed I’ll be using a sharps to create these little buggers! ;)
