My dad did a solo from Milwaukee to northern Wisconsin. The day he did it was the last day of the fly in. Half of the planes at that time had no radios. True experimental aircraft. This was about 1970. Frying pan to the fire.
I could literally watch this all-day-long. 75% of stick & rudder skill exists in the landing and the only part that is an absolute requirement. Love those classic Cessnas and that GORGEOUS Staggerwing.
@@Freedom1776usa Actually that is kind of a big part of the arrivals, and has been going on almost as long as the EAA event itself.... So back it down Chad... Back it down. It's OK.
@@hawkdsl i take it from your mature response your one of the score "posters". I dont care how long its been going on. Its still a distraction in my opinion (key word) and promotes hot-dogging.
@@Freedom1776usa I can tell by your response that you don't have a clue what your talking about. Believe me, no pilot landing at Osh during AV is looking at anything other then the green dot... then they are being yelled at to get off the runway. There is no time to look at the side lines.
Got my ppl on June 6th of this year. Super sad Airventure has been cancelled as it’ll have been our 4th year going in a row. I’m excited to fly in there someday.
They all approach way too fast, land too late and some forget even their spoilers. Those pilots are very lucky to land in Oshkosh. I learned to land within 600 feet. In autogyro I needed 20 feet…
@@AirshowStuffVideos Been in Oshkosh, dear. I didn’t compete in stol competition. Efficient safe clean landings only. Clearing the runway asap is a matter of safety and allows others to proceed safely. Last week one C17 took a quarter of the runway, way shorter than a bunch of Cessna s… ! Wasn’t a stol competition but a testimony of extremely well trained and skilled military pilots. Btw .Tell me one advantage of touching the runway beyond 3/4 of the runway… (most of the accidents were due to clumsy late landings)
In this video I'm seeing a lot of pilots carrying a bit too much speed into the flare, no doubt due to the gusty conditions. Other than that one taildragger at about 6:30, they all seemed to manage pretty well.
Yes it's open. If you've ever owned a low-wing aircraft, they get mighty hot inside (think greenhouse) with two or more passengers and you're at lower altitudes as you approach for land. We had to (unless it was really cold outside) crack the door on my dad's mooney the instant the wheels touched down....just to keep from sweating. It's one advantage of high-wings....you're mostly in the shade.
You do not use flaps in gusty conditions. Tricycle gear should 3 point Taildraggers should wheel land. Plant it on the ground and use the brakes. Just because the whole herd is doing something and you have a million hours does not make it the correct way to do something.
It looks slightly terrifying - you're queued to land every 20 seconds, and oh, how are your crosswind landing skills? Looks like the dudes all know how to fly!
That was the Honeywell Flying Testbed 757 on the other runway: ua-cam.com/video/AraV2kvytIY/v-deo.html The pod is a turboprop engine they're testing. We'll have an interview posted soon with more info on the special airplane and what they use it for!
He sorta did a go around 😂. Added power flew over his buddy and tried landing 2 more times lol. Buddy in the blue plane was probably quite confused watching that go down.
This is the highest skill level required of any pilot... General Aviation Aircraft. That said, why aren't most immediately retracting flaps on touchdown to further glue the aircraft wheels to the runway?... do they think it's aerodynamic braking?
Thanks for the video. Good distraction while distancing/quarantine. Looking for make/model of the brown plane at 5:41 (1935 Waco?). Hopefully, they get Oshkosh this year. First, for ATC must be like trying to herd cats, at end of the shift they pull out hair. Second, it would have been nice to get graphic with description: (1944) Piper Cub (L-4).
Sweet square-tailed Glastar at 6:20, but for heaven's sake, if you're going to go around....GO AROUND! Almost crashed. Would have cost you maybe 3 gallons and 10 minutes.
What are the dots all about? And why are people Landing on different parts of the runway? I assume it’s due to the high volume of traffic but am interested in the exact reason.
What kind of plane is that orange tail dragger that came in a little squirrelly next to the blue one? They look like they were a pair of the same brand
I se some pilots raise the flaps just after landing (to get rid of lift in the gusty weather I assume). But also I se the same type of aircraft both land and take off with no flaps. Why is this? Forgot to set flaps or why would you want to start and land with no flaps?
Sometimes when it is gusty you may not use flaps. If enough runway you may keep the speed a few knots faster as well. Many aircraft T/O without flaps unless one needs to avoid an obstacle, or short field operations.
To keep the speed up like ATC was asking them. Flaps aren’t required to land these GA aircraft they are already slow enough, you will just have a shallower approach angle which is exactly what you want to land over halfway down the runway if dragging it in. Raising the flaps immediately after landing is the shortfield landing technique for basically all GA aircraft as well for more braking force at the wheels.
I saw it too, as a pilot, I think you saw a bounce of the nosewheel... the spring brought it back to center in the air, as well as that airspeed rudder authority has control. (:
correction to myself. Looking cloer, that is a free nosewheel so no spring at all, but it will follow the direction of the airplane. It is on a swivel. cheers!

Didnt catch the V landing guy

There is nothing like Oshkosh...Truly one of the greatest airshows and airplanes, pilots, and fans gatherings...
I could literally watch this all-day-long. 75% of stick & rudder skill exists in the landing and the only part that is an absolute requirement. Love those classic Cessnas and that GORGEOUS Staggerwing.
i was gonna say exactly that...
That was great! Love watching landings in such a variety.
After seeing this, I'm suddenly feeling very good about my landings, haha.
Yeah huh!
Hahaha same here bruh
Gee, no peer pressure here.
The landing scorecards are brilliant and hilarious.
damn
actually I think this is huge and unneeded distraction for the pilots. what are they, kids.

You saved the best for last that was awesome, The crowd @9:14💯👍
5:42 - That's how you do it right there. Nice one.
4:11 Finally, someone not afraid to not use landing flaps in high wind conditions, pretty smooth landing huh?
Missed the show BUT catching up here, thanks.
That's awesome, talking about the "Judges" 😃
5:45 could listen to that engine all day long
Wonderful.

If you did that in Oshkosh you'd force multiple go arounds behind you. Landing long and fast is part of the process. It isn't a STOL competition.

So, you are NOT supposed to land on the tail wheel first?!? ;)
The tower is amazing
My dad loves planes so I do to and great video!!

OMG, the Sunday Oshkosh Arrivals "TRIPLE the Craziness" of Sunday, June 22, 2018 was AWESOME ! ! ! !
I can't wait to see parts 3, 4, 5, 6, . . . . . .
Hey Ukrainian spotter, I too am of your ethnic persuasion landing here back in 49'. Great vid BTW.
It looks slightly terrifying - you're queued to land every 20 seconds, and oh, how are your crosswind landing skills? Looks like the dudes all know how to fly!
All are extremely fast for landing
Cessna Land-O-Matic gear in action at 4:56. ;)
Great footage. Fun to watch. At about 7:46 something like a 757 flys over. What is the attachment to the right fuselage near the nose?

All the parts are full of beautiful birds, and amazing filmed - you´re really a pro. Thank You - and LIKE for ALL your nice works !!! ✈🛩💯
Appears they are all anticipating a cartwheel , nose over, summersault crash from those landing or a collision !! WTH!!
I could watch this all day long...
4:52 watch the mains, that was sketchy
Most of the Cessna's seemed to have a better landing.
The light weight experimentals are having a hard time in the crosswind.
6:21 I would have gone around if I were that orange plane. Too risky if you lose control and you're that close to each other.
Gonna guess that was a "flight of two" that planned to land together. Not well executed, but "going around" at KOSH can mean quite a long delay.
True, but still safety first.
going around isn't always the safest, could've been low fuel
TBH, going around at Oshkosh is an extremely big hassle. Not saying what he did was right, just saying that I understand his reasoning.
He sorta did a go around 😂. Added power flew over his buddy and tried landing 2 more times lol. Buddy in the blue plane was probably quite confused watching that go down.
Oshkosh is like a Sturgis Rally for airplanes.
just not as greasy as sturgis!!!
After some of those landings I’m surprised there’s not a brown dot on the runway!

Hoping you got my landing! I landed at 6:45 P.M. ish. V - tail bonanza. 45D.
I don't think we did, pretty sure we had all gone to dinner by then. Sorry!
AirshowStuffVideos Any video of departures this morning (Sunday) around 830-40? Runway 18?
Are you a pilot?
Jcsandy Gobot obkkbo Yes.
No, sorry. We were stumbling out of the hotel around that time
lol at the bush pilots landing side by side XD
IF only the airlines operated like this in Atlanta and Chicago lol. Delays would be a thing of the past.
Good camera work. Thanks for the fun video.
National Blue Beret anyone?
Yeah the windy was hellish
Did you catch Dave Coulier's Bonanza?
Anyone know the type of plane which landed first? Cool looking plane!
Fairchild 24
Crosswinds look like they was really kicking hard, but apparently that twin engine Baron 58 didn't get the memo, "land past the white dot!"
Wing-rockin' action! Was great watching the emoji landing-rating system.
They all get 11??
Does anyone use crosswind controls after touching down?

Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing
Does N529JK pass thru from time to time?
4:18 didn’t use flaps
I like the scoring system. Haha!
CAME TO SEE MIKE PATTEY AND SCRAPPY BUT THEN REALIZED THIS IS 2018... WEL DONE UA-cam AND YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS
Everything these aviators were taught not to do like landing on the same runway at the same time as another aircraft. Nerve racking.

The dots are markers on the runway to know where to land.
Seems like if they have someone behind them they want them to land farther out. Keep em flying.
Heaven! Oshkosh… or bust! Cherish all my souvenirs of Oshkosh…
I love the guys rating the landings. The one tail wheel held that gust super well
Staggerwing!
Yep! Ain't it a beauty?
Best plane is it's time
🙌👍🙌🙌😁
What kind of plane is that orange tail dragger that came in a little squirrelly next to the blue one? They look like they were a pair of the same brand
cessna 180
Nope. A heavily modified Glasair Sportsman 2+2. Owner did numerous changes to further reduce weight...
toy plane playing landing
Man I love the look of those v tails I don't care what kind of rep they got.
Tricycle undercarriage landing is a piece of cake in the wind ....compared to a tricky tail dragger
What a normal summer day in Canada looks like
With a very nice grass landing area not being utilized seems a poor decision.
Your not in charge and not there.
They do a great job.

Can someone tell me what the grey plane with the orange cowl is at 6:00?
Notice the 11 was on the back....
Organized Chaos. 👍
Where was chuck yeagermeister for the festivities?
I think there just not far apart.......just in case.
The maroon Staggerwing N92SL at about 10:20, what a gorgeous looking aeroplane.
🙏🙏🙏
Hey, I remember some of these planes landing. I was over there too when you filmed this
Takeoffs are optional Landings are mandatory got to bring your A game when you're landing at Oshkosh with cross wind conditions
H
Love it! Did you guys get any of the Thursday AM arrivals!?
Some, but not sure how much specifically. It will take a while to sort out the files and edit them all up.
Hope to see me! N26825, got in early on Thurdsay to 27. Either way keep up the great work, love the channel!
What was the time frame of this video? I landed 9 somewhere around 3pm, hoping to see it!
We filmed from about 1pm to 4pm, but there are some gaps where we didn't film. Parts 3 and 4 are coming - hope you find yourself!
Thanks for the reply! What a crazy day that was flying in, hope to find my arrival!
Like...
what plane is that at 6:30 with the tundra tires?
Pretty heavily modified Glasair Sportsman 2+2...
again, just land past the white dot.
Dang!
Gustiest move I ever saw, Man...…….
Look at that nose wheel at 2:02 that's not right. It went completely side ways....
It is on a swivel. cheers!
The vans free castoring nose wheels tend to bounce and swivel around a lot when they first touch down.
Your Vids R the Best !
Thanks for watching!
and this is why we dont fly in to osh kosh by gosh
Love the Fairchild. Hate the L/G.
Hold my beer.....
Just let em land and shut up!
Score card people should be kicked out. That’s not safe to encourage people to be hot dogs.
The best airplane was the TBM at the end of video 👍👍
