Sir Walter Scott also went around collecting Ballads from the Borders. My wife's ancestor, Robert Shortreed, was a close friend who took Scott on the "raids" to collect them over a seven year period. He definitely was on a mission to save and revive Scottish culture.
Wonderful glimpse into history, thank You very much. Best regards from Germany from a viewer who got into wearing kilts after watching the amazing and passionate content provided by Your team

The Congress of Vienna took place in 1814-15; George IV's visit to Scotland coincided with the 5th and final international conference which followed the Napoleonic Wars, which was held in Verona.
Help with Irish county tartans.☘☘☘ Can anyone provide information about the designers of the Irish county tartans and their purpose in representing the unique identity and heritage of specific Irish counties? The design elements, including color choices, patterns, and symbolism, may vary depending on each tartan and its historical or cultural significance.
White gloves! Inexpensive disposable white gloves should be worn when handling valued old books and papers. This prevents the natural acidic oils of your fingers from adding to that brown chemical burn on the edges of the paper.
Current best practice, according to the museum curators we spoke to, is freshly washed and dried hands. Gloves decrease tactile sensation and increase liklihood of tearing pages.

Loved that you paired your commentary with the 2nd movement of Beethoven’s 7th symphony!! Well done!
It sounded like a string quartet arrangement

This was clearly made with love, well done to everyone involved.
Thank you Eric , love your videos on “the history of”. I love hearing about my family’s history, both the Irish and Scottish side. Thank you.

Great work! This is a great video! Very interesting!
As usual, Eric does an amazing and thorough job of presenting the documentation of the tartan craze circa 1847.
A brilliant video Eric, loved it. What an amazing set of books.
Excellent information

This video is one of the many reasons I love USA Kilts. They’re not just purveyors of fine kilts, but historians with a passion for truth.
Thank you for the kind words!
Eric the Professor, a wonderful exposition of the history behind tartan, wasted in the marketing department I fear!
Love the video
This has helped further ignite my desire to celebrate my Celtic heritage. I am thinking of buying the book by Magnus Magnusson. Slainte!
Love the history lesson!
I much appreciated your presentation. Is it in two volumes?
Yes, the original book was created in 2 volumes
I just got a reprint of this book, but it has 40 colour prints. Is that the original total, or were there more illustrations in the first edition?
I have one of the reprint editions, it was the later 1970s I think. Nice oversize, gorgeous volume! PS: it was the Congress of Vienna, not "Verona."
The Congress of Vienna took place in 1814-15; George IV's visit to Scotland coincided with the 5th and final international conference which followed the Napoleonic Wars, which was held in Verona.
Great presentation. Any recommendations on other books to read on the clans and tartans?
We actually just talked about this on our last live show! You can check out the segment with the link below.

I have a modern copy of the illustrations, which are quite something.

The design elements, including color choices, patterns, and symbolism, may vary depending on each tartan and its historical or cultural significance.
They were designed in 1995 by a mill. No real significance to the colors chosen.
i would love to see this book, even if it has to be scanned in and color corrected, and made into a pdf.
We got you! Here is a link of a scanned version of another copy of the first volume.

@@USAKiltsOfficial thank you gentlemen and ladies.
Erik could have easily been a historian.

Please wear cotton gloves when touching those magnificent pages.
