  • Xbox Series S on a big 4K TV? In this video we look at how this console performs on a large TV, in terms of upscaling and resolution at 4K, 1440p and 1080p. I use mine on a 65” 4K OLED (Sony A80J). I also recommend the best size TV to use with this console in terms of graphics fidelity and also consider living room viewing distance as part of the equation. Games titles tested and looked at are Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite + Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

It didn't look good because it's not in 4k. It's likely running at 900p but "upscaling" to "4K" which looks like crap. It's called dynamic resolution. It's the console attempting to keep a steady 60 fps while tricking you into thinking it's performing better than it actually is.

For me the biggest difference is dolbyvision. I went from playing wwe2k22 which is sdr to Arkham knight and it switched automatically to dolbyvision. It’s by far the best upgrade, dolbyvision makes textures look way more realistic, like shadows and water, and makes brighter colors pop off the screen.

Hi. I have a PHILIPS Ambilight 50" 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV. Currently just got a PS4. But would like next gen console. But can’t afford the £ on a PS5. Thinking about going for the Xbox series S at the lower price tag. I mainly play sports games like. MLB the show. NBA 2k and Madden and FIFA. Would you say for graphics I will notice a big difference from my PS4 to the Xbox series S ? Or would I be better paying extra and getting an Xbox series X ?

You should make more videos on Frame rates & visual comparisons, especially for series S on 4K tvs. These days people are not short on 4K TVs but Consoles, since people have already bought 4K sets in order to play new consoles. Unfortunately PS5 digital is quite expensive due to shortages & Series S is quite lucrative with the game pass. You can compare standard PS4 output with Series S & majority will really be blown away with the difference.

On the Panasonic I used the PS4 Pro and on the Samsung both Consoles.
1080p from the Series S looks fuzzy with artifacts on the 55' 4K Samsung, 1440p look alot better.
The overall image quality was better on my tinier TV, even the PS4 Pro looks slightly worse at the bigger Samsung.
Sportgames overall were better on the PS4 Pro, but Series S games with atleast 1440p are pretty good.
The space between me and the TV's changed. I was sitting further away with the tinier TV than now with my big TV (different homes), so the fuzziness is even more visible.

    This is impressive BUT
If devs use SFS and mesh shaders (if the engine supports it),
Next-G has not had a chance to breathe once, PS5 and XBOX
SERIES X can only do 1900p30fpsRT at best in open world while SS
gets dynamic 1080p30fps open world and maybe RT if it's a "well
optimized" game. I'm glad to see that devs are putting down last-G
and focusing on next-G for less of a optimization bourdon. people
say xbox series s is not at it's advertised standards but yet the
same thing is happening with the "4k" PS5 and XBOX SERIES X.
There seems to be confusion regarding the actual teraflops of
next gen consoles. The problem is comparing PS4/Xbox one
    architecture-GCN with PS5/Xbox series X/S architecture- RDNA 2.
RDNA 2 offers Variable rate shading/Ray tracing and GCN does not.
To give people an idea how powerful next gen consoles are, this
mention converts RDNA 2 Teraflops to GCN Teraflops.
    Q :
As you can see, PS5 is 17.22 Teraflops and Xbox Series X is 20.35
    Teraflops in GCN Architecture.
    CALL DUTY
Of course this is probably not a 100% precise representation, but
this is merely a gauge on how powerful next gen consoles are.
    Ok, make it simple
    PS5 is 10.28 teraflops RDNA 2= 17.22 teraflops GCN
Xbox series X is 12.1 teraflops RDNA 2= 20.35 teraflops GCN
    Estimate: Xbox series S is 4 teraflops RDNA2 = 8 to 12 teraflops
    GCN
    Xbox one x is 6 teraflops GCN=1.5 to 2 teraflops RDNA 2
    PS4 pro is 4.2 teraflops GCN= 1 teraflop RDNA 2
    Home
There isn't a single aspect of One X that's more powerful than
Series S. 4TFLOPS RDNA 2 is more powerful and capable than
Polaris 6tflops. RDNA 2 is around 50% more efficient than RDNA 1.
And RDNA 1 was already 40% more efficient over Polaris. Polaris is
the GPU set in Xbox One S and One X. One X would more than likely
struggle to run any next Gen games with next Gen features above
900p. In fact most would be 720p or even lower. One X also is using
GDDR 5 as opposed to GDDR6. Couple that together with no asset
streaming on One X to change ram data on the fly, the Series S
didn't need 10gb ram to outperform the One X. As I said, the One X
loads data to ram and that's it. It's stuck with it until it uses another
load screen. Series S however is constantly able to change its ram
data on the fly every second. With far superior ram usage over One
    X. Xbox One X just isn't able to run next Gen games with modern
graphics remotely close to Series S. Because Polaris and Jaguar
just aren't remotely up to the task. One X is a 4K last Gen machine.
But it's a 720p at best next Gen machine.
Btw memory speed would not be an issue if the games were built
on rdna2 tech, these consoles are not only more powerful than last
gen it's also 5-15x more efficient!! If Xbox series s was launched
during the time Xbox one x launched, on GCN Xbox series s would
be the most powerful console in the world from 2017-2020.
The main reason why games are not looking as next-gen on Xbox
series s (and Xbox series x and ps5) Is because developers are
optimizing on engines that are built to optimize GCN for consoles.
    ps4/xbox one
    Shorts
All of these, devs are not using for optimization, If series s dies
off that just tells you something about ps5 and series X with
games only hitting 1900p at a rough 30fps with RT at best. Not the
promised 4k60 RT and the possible 8k 30fps with these efficiently
features. The series S is needed to test developers optimization
skills for next gen and from what I'm seeing, it's not looking good
    for XSS,XSX and PS5
BTW, mesh shaders can give 500-1800% performance boost in
rendering regardless of the graphical conditions.
XSS gpu edges out X1X in everything, even resolution, memory size
    and memory bandwidth.
Those roughly 8.5gb(available for games) will get 2x multiplier
from BCpack and 2.5x multiplier from SFS(MS claims those are
    conservative numbers).
Let's assume a game uses 3.5gb for cpu tasks and the remaining
    5gb is for Vram.
    5gb * 2x * 2.5x = that's 25gb effective Vram on XSS at an effective
    1.1TB/s bandwidth.
Those numbers sound ridiculous because it's rtx3090 numbers in a
$299 console and a total gamechanger.
XSS was made for next gen games at lower resolution, X1X was
meant for xbox one games at higher resolution, it does nothing new
or exciting only brute forcing old tech.
On top of that XSS cpu is a monster compared to the weak X1X
jaguar cpu which also has to do sound processing and no dedicated
    compression block.
That huge cpu overhead could also do tasks like particle simulation,
alembic animation etc. that x1x/ps4 games did on the gpu, freeing
more gpu ressources for other stuff, on top of the hardware
accelerated features it has compared to X1X.
And I hope they're not comparing 6TF of old architecture to 4TF
new architecture, that would be foolish.
    74%
The problem is games still target ps4, xbox one and weak pc
    hardware.
Rtx20 series also seemed weak because a gtx1080ti destroyed
2080 in many games. That's until games got raytracing and 2080
    crushed 1080ti.
Rtx20 series is still the biggest leap in gpu architecture in recent
time. Much bigger than rtx40. Mesh shaders, VRS, SF, DirectStorage
are available on rtx20 yet it's not used. Huge untapped potential,
just like XSS. Hell blade 2 will be the first game to utilize one of the
next gen features and that's SFS and I can't wait to see it in action.
