The low storage is not good, but depending on your gaming habits can be fully okay. For me I have Forza 5 installed constantly and plus one story based game that I'm currently playing. Also don't know that if it's a bad thing at all. When I have 20+ games installed on any system I just screw around within games ending up not playing anything at al. The series S low storage resolves this. If I have 10-20 minutes to play I just fire up forza to do 2-3 races, when i have more time I go with a story based one to sink more time in it. As a result I finish up way more games than before, also feels good to complete a game, extends playtime and reduces buying games that you don't have time for.

If your having storage issues just go ahead and get a 2 to 4tb hard drive, I got a 4tb for around $100 and obviously it's not capable of playing optimized games but you can transfer, just download the game you want and you can switch them from your hard drive to your xboxs ssd, it'll take anywhere from 4 to 20min but totally worth the time considering you can have the 4tb for a little over a hundred and spend a little time to just transfer games back and forth

@@jonathansoko1085 Relative to what?? Yes it's advisable to use external HDDs or spring for the storage expansion card. Otherwise, if you focus on only a few games (in my case, Forza and Minecraft) the internal storage can have those on hand and rotate through whatever else you're playing, moving the extra stuff to external storage

Coming from a long term PS user, I really love the idea that Microsoft has put behind the Series S & GamePass. If it wasn't for the SpiderMan2, Wolverine & God of War ragnarok exclusivity, I would have blindly opted for a Series S. The Low Price & Small size of Series S just feels more than right. I am a long-time Xbox gamer, I bought my original Xbox in 2004 (and still have it now). I bought my Series S back in late February and it's a great little console especially for the price. The lack of an optical drive isn't too big of a deal to me since I have my model 1540 Xbox One hanging around yet for disc-based games. What I like the most about the Series S are the FAST load times compared to the Xbox One and also that many games are getting boosts to 60 frames per second. The internal storage is puny, but I might get a Samsung T7 SSD external hard drive so that I can get additional storage at a somewhat reasonable price and have decent load and transfer speeds still (even if I cannot play optimized games on it). Will probably get a Series X once supply is back to normal and we see a refresh of the current consoles.

Just get a western digital 8tb 7200 rpm external hard drive for your console.

I LOVE my Series S. I mainly use it as a GamePass machine and I use it next to my PS5 and Switch. I think out of the 3, the Series S is the best looking. It's such a simple and great design. My last Xbox was the 360 and I hadn't played that one in over 15 years. It was great to log in and see all my saves and information just be there like I never went away. It loved playing the Gears of War games and playing the new ones. GamePass is really great. I have played games I normally wouldn't have played if they were full price. About the storage, I was never short on it. I play one game, maybe two games at a time, also on Switch and PS5, so I never was short on storage. I also have PS Plus Premium, but GP does feel different.
I love the Series S. Not just as a side console but it's just great for gamers on a budget.

A few tips to keep your xbox series s running cool
    1. Keep compressed air and routinely spray any dust from around the system and into the system vents
    2. Best position to set this system is laying down as the air intake vent is more accessible
    3. The small tabs on the case are not enough clearance for any position whether standing on it's side or laying down. Simple solution is to place the system horizontal and with the use of 4 water bottle caps (or legos, something similar etc.) and a mouse pad, you will now have at least 1/4 to 1/2 inch clearance and the mouse pad will dissipate heat evenly.
    4. A small desk fan found at any Target or Walmart positioned on the side of the intake vent with an optimal distance from the system and power setting will keep this system cool and functional for extended hours of use.
    5. Keep a rigorous cleaning routine of the small external desk fan and game system with the compressed air to reduce any large dust deposits from forming on either.
I have used this method since I have owned a PS3 and have never owned any aftermarket fans or cooling stands; just figured out the airflow of each system and provide an acceptable cheap alternative to extending their lives. My PS3 lived 15 years before it ultimately died from the thermal paste drying out entirely.

It's a great entry console to next gen, or to run alongside a PS5 really. The drawbacks are smaller SSD size, even if it's the same SSD as the X. The other main drawback is that unless they are S/X enhanced games, then it plays last gen games via the Xbox One S version, and they tended to run a little worse sometimes than the PS4 version, for instance some games were 900p/30 on Xbox One Vs 1080p/30 on PS4, on matters on select old games but something that is missed. The Series X plays the Xbox One X version of old games, and that tended to be better than the PS4 Pro version of last gen games, as the One X ran higher resolutions than the PS4 Pro.
The pros of the Series S is that you get access to next gen for a small price, and also last gen games often get Microsoft's FPS boost, so a lot of 60fps games which are still 30fps on PS5 when played backwards compatibility. For games that push the system a little more, like Halo or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 for instance, you get a 1080p 30fps experience, although Halo can do 1080p 60fps on performance mode that makes some visual sacrifices in other areas, or I expect 1080p 60fps on Cod MW2 this October. The series X is for people that want to run 4K games at 60fps, or have 120fps at 1440p upscaled to 4k even. It's not just about resolution and frame rates though, the Series X also gets better draw distances in some games too. It also has 1TB of memory, which is a big perk over the Series S. I have also been concerned that as the generation goes on the Series S will struggle more, as it only has 10GB of RAM and around 4 Teraflops of GPU power Vs the Series X which has 16GB RAM and 12 Teraflops of GPU. I think they'll be more trade offs as the generation goes forward, even if the CPU is close to the X and the SSD identical. True AAA next gen games will start to make sacrifices to various areas more and more though, it'll be interesting to see Starfield in 2023, as that's a next gen only game that will surely push some boundaries.
However, as of right now, it's a solid console and crazy good value when paired with the Game Pass. I have a lot of gamer friends who are PlayStation focused, but a number of them have purchased the S because the value is just so good. I think hardcore Xbox fans are largely going to prefer the Series X because it's the most powerful console on the market, but some people have also been getting a Series S for a second room.

Storage concerns counter point: I bought the 1TB Seagate expansion. People say "you could have gotten a Series X for that". Yes. But I also now have more storage than I'd have with an X. For the same price, I gave virtually the same graphics and performance, and I have 50% more storage space (1.5TB on S with Expansion v. 1TB on X)

@@casmithh funny thing for me is I got ahold of a Series X since my previous comment and... the graphics and power is perceptionally non-existent for me. Outside of some very small details, I don't even see a difference between the X and the S. And that's on a 65" 4k / 60ghz TV. I feel like people are hyping specs but not paying attention to the actual results, and discrediting how powerful the S actually is. @@ExecutionDbl9 since it is still the start of the generation, you won't notice the series s start to lag behind yet. but you won't regret that purchase in a few years when the games become more advanced and the s can't keep up. The graphics are improved btw, same with framerate and resolution. on series s things just look softer in general, less detailed. for some, they cannot see it because they aren't really looking for it.

    • @ExecutionDbl9
      @ExecutionDbl9 2 роки тому

@@casmithh the graphics are definitely sharper, I just think it's a very mild improvement. You could be right about future games, either the divide is going to widen, or devs taking more advantage of the X/S specs will bring more out of the S. My perspective is that if availability isn't a factor, and you can afford the Series X, and you don't have either of the consoles yet, then get the X. But if you already have an S and are thinking about upgrading, it is not really necessary to upgrade to the X from the S, at least not right now. I honestly probably should have waited for a mid-gen relaunch or something

This is my main source of gaming, I play nearly everyday, and with the Remote play, I get in so much game time in my down time at work, it's a god send. Graphics has been off my radar since moving to PS4/Xbox one, nearly every game looks the same on my UHD 4kTV I've had for the last few years so no noticable differences at all. One thing I can say is that it does get VERY hot, and can warm up a enclosed space, so it's best to give it plenty of breathing room and keep it away from vents or other electronics that also produce a lot of heat. I'd say the storage is not an issue as we usually aren't playing 20 games at once so you can focus and finish more games with this smaller storage, but the instant options with cloud gaming have really taken care of that if it was every perceived as an issue. This is an amazing console that I have no regrets purchasing at all. The only reason I'll ever purchase anything besides this in the future would be to play the next Spider-Man/Wolverine games coming from Insomniac

My only add on that I've noticed a ton of folks mentioning, doing the x vs s, the only draw on the x is MOST folks don't have the television or monitor setup to push the x to it's max GPU output. And that's personally why I went with the s. Got it through "xbox all access" & only pay $10 more a month than an XGPU sub. So, it seems like a no brianer at that point. And I'm usually a Nintendo and Sony guy myself. But a good deal is a good deal. 😉
And to be fair; as far as next gen graphical output, the wife and I are still holding out to get a disc ps5 before hogwarts legacy and the new final fantasies come out, but other than that, my switch oled and ps4 pro are still Champs. So, the series s was a genuinely good and affordable introduction to "present gen" as well as giving me something to install my game pass games to instead of cloud playing all the time. From a PlayStation and switch gamer, if you can afford a series s, it is a good deal. Plan on getting dev mode for mine down the road, play everything on that little beast. 😁

If I was buying it as a stop gap I might do that. BTW basically an R7 3700X, 10GB of DDR6, a higher IPC newer tech RDNA 2 GPU outputting at about the TFs of a 1060 6GB(so better) and a controller for £250 inc VAT(1/6th of that £250) is top draw value for money still today. MS is supplying them to UK retailers for about £177 net which is insane for the tech that's inside it. What it is is a well focussed 1080P60 high settings in most games and medium in something like Cyberbug 2077 for what MS are selling for about £177.

I bought the 512GB Storage Expansion card and it's been plenty since the games sizes are smaller for the S vs the X. I use the S for traveling and for emulation. i grew up on xbox and ended up switching to ps4 although i had a one at the beginning of the last gen cycle. i bought a ps5 and tbh i can’t justify it anymore. i’m selling my ps5 and getting a series s

I think if microsoft would have made a 1tb version of it, xbox series s could be the best budget console

I have a seriew s and a ps5 but ever since i got the ps5 ive barely used my series a i mostly got it since my freinds have xbox but gamepass just had such a bland selection for me plus it had so little storage plus the only game i played was halo and sea of thieves and halo got boring and sea of thieves just wasnt doing it for me anymore then ps plus extra got released and ive been only using the ps5 since

As I’m watching this, I’m playing Xbox cloud gaming on my steam deck (through the web with a workaround). I don’t even have an Xbox yet, though I am thinking about getting a Series S

it's also a great 'extra' console.
have the series X on my main set up and have the series S in my bedroom. I wouldn't say it was necessary, but it sure is nice.

i also really like Quick resume and the fact that it can literally fps boost old games if your TV allows it and i picked this console over the series x or ps5 cause it fits my needs perfectly i don't have to buy a new TV for next gen graphics since i only really care about fps lol it's just the pure value i got that made me choose the series s. but will also get a ps5 in a few years for exclusives when it's more available and not as expensive

You sound like me when I had the S trying to convince myself that the X wasn’t an upgrade lol

Storage is the least of my issues ima 4 game type of person, I don’t get to play as much as I would like. I got one for 50 bucks today so I feel I got a good deal, switching over from a 10 year old ps3😂

I wanna ask, have u seen any performance drops after 2 years of having the console? Or is it still performing as good as when u first bought it?

I got a Series S because I couldn't get my hands on a X. I have both now and spend more time on the S. Having Gamepass with cloud and now the ability to play emulators natively, this is my main gaming platform.

Series S does exactly what I need it to do. Gives me an opportunity to play next gen games away from my PC and Series X in other rooms of my house. Biggest con is the memory so I only keep games I am actively playing on it downloaded on it. Other than that, that's all I am using it for. It is an extension to my Xbox software experience. It's a way to get out of the basement and play with the wife and kids lol. I wouldn't recommend the S as your primary Xbox console if you plan on playing several games on it. Get the X or PC with game pass if you want the best experience. Solid console though for sure. Just not a tank.

Good point on the storage, it’s very low capacity for games these days.
Just a bit of feedback for you. The review says that you’re reviewing the Series S, yet quite a lot of the video is focussed on Game Pass which isn’t part of the console package (outside of the one month you get free for all new accounts). Anyway, just my thoughts.

You forgot to mention the lack of a disc drive. There are some Xbox One games that are no longer available digitally. But otherwise, great review.

I have moved a 100gb games from my USB 3.2 external drive in less then 6 min. 50gb games in less then 3 min. Watching a kettle maybe?
