Awesome video. My favorite retro console is the Nintendo 64, but here lately I've been on the Original X-Box and Sega Genesis kick! I collect for all kinds of different video game consoles as well. Great video and keep making great content!! :)
I've seen some comments on youtube where people say they spend more time watching gaming channels, rather than playing games. I've found myself doing the same thing. I live in the suburbs, and there is no social life here. So youtube is the only social life I have. Sad but funny. LMAO
The older I get, the less stuff I want to own. I sold off my whole retro collection except for my PS2 because it has many collections of older systems such as Atari, Sega, and Intellivision, plus it plays PS1 games. There is also tons of Arcade and Pinball collections. The PS2 does everything I need on one console, and I don't have all the clutter of all those other systems, controllers, and cables. There are more than enough games to play on the PS2 to last my lifetime.
@@spursdynasty7378 Nah, I gave up on emulation a long time ago. I used to have modded Xboxs loaded with thousands of games, but over time, something would happen and the consoles would crash. I like the simplicity of the PS2, just put in the game and it plays and I have more than enough consoles to last my lifetime.
I pretty much collect for anything. With the idea I'll find time to play it at some point! Though right now, its a good time to collect for systems like Xbox and PS2, since they've very cheap and easy to find!
I have a nice ps2/ps3 collection. Currently still getting through current gen tho which might very well be my last do to having too many systems. I'd rather collect for older systems than buy into next gen when this gen ends. Not sure which system I want collect for tho mainly.
My largest collection is the Atari 2600. But also collect for the Atari 7800, NES, Genesis, PS1/PS2/PS4, Dreamcast, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One. Lately, I've been playing Dreamcast on original hardware with VGA output to LCD and it's crisp. When this came out, I was entrenched in PS1 and of course jumped to the PS2 in 2000 so I missed out on the Dreamcast--which is highly underrated. Good stuff. I also have been emulating Gamecube in 4K and it looks incredible.
Great list John my collection includes games from all consoles you named apart from the dreamcast at the minute im not picking up much just working my way through a backlog of games as I was collecting and not playing for sometime and with lockdown more time on my hands and with a young child I'm loving getting to go back and revisit games ..keep up the great work and stay safe.
Sega Dreamcast has to be my favorite console of all time, just loved playing it back in the day i wish i had a better place to find games in my area, im close to Redding south a lil ;) in a place with "Wood" in its name ;)
@Imitation Station I've never worried about game selection for mini console just the quality..because easy solution is just add whatever games you want.
@@IrieIslandGaming that would be insane if they put games like Skies of Arcadia, MvC2, Power Stone 1+2, Tech Romancer, Mars Matrix, SA 1+2, Illbleed. So much potential here. Hopefully Sega feels confident in releasing one because it was a sales disaster at the time. The Genesis was a much safer bet. But maybe they'll understand that the system is a cult classic.
Awesome Video John. The Master System was my childhood and is definitely the console I enjoy collecting for the most. There is so much Nostalgia and Charm in those little 8-bit gems. It’s amazing to re-experience games that used to warm my 8 year old heart (New Zealand Story, Fantasy Zone) and terrify my 8 year old soul (Dracula, Ghost House). It’s fun to collect the weird and wacky games and accessories that the system had to offer. Loving your vids mate. Cheers! 😊
I loved collecting for Genesis. It was my childhood console. Don't have our original though. My Nanny knicked it when she ran off with this flying trapeze man. He was one-quarter Algonquin. So my bro and I had to rebuy everything. Probably what jumpstarted my collecting.
Great video! I always enjoy seeing things from a collectors perspective. My current retro consoles I'm collecting for are the GameCube, DS, GBA, Xbox, and Genesis.
I am currently collecting for the N64, PS1, PS2,PS3, GameCube ,Dreamcast, but I am also collecting for the PSP. Just picked one up at my local retro game store.
Sometimes, I forget that PS1, PS2, and PS3 are considered 'retro'. It feels like only a few years ago when 'retro' was more like SNES and NES. Does anyone sometimes get that feeling? Personally I like the idea of collecting games, but ideally I prefer ports/remakes/collections of these 'retro' games released on modern consoles like the PS4.
Did you know frank thomas big hurt baseball was released june 5 1996. and around this time the ps1 price dropped from 299 to 199. i own frank thomas big hurt baseball complete with Jewel long case and manual
The bulk of my collection is PS3, as that was my first console I bought with my own money. I do try and collect a bit of everything here and there, but lately most of my money has been going to limited print games. I do want to get back into older games again, but it's never easy/cheap when you live out in the middle of nowhere! Hahaha!
Just got my hands on a Coleco Gemini Atari 2600 clone. The controllers are fantastic! Include a stick, paddle, and side-mounted fire buttons. Much more comfortable to play with than the 2600 joysticks!
Dreamcast was the first console I started collecting for. It was the first console I got that was brand new when I was 8 years old a few years back I started collecting my childhood dreamcast collection again and now I collect for almost every console! Sega dreamcast/genesis will forever be my favorite tho!
While I own a Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube, I wouldn't say I collect for them. I just have games that I bought when they were current. Last year I bought a Japanese Saturn and have collected about 10 games so far. Mostly fighting and arcade games. It's been really fun. I might do the same with a PC Engine at some point.
Thanks, this is a great list. Just recently started collecting older console games again, and revisiting some childhood gaming memories. Look forward to watching more videos from you.
I’ve really enjoyed my Atari 5200. Not so easy to find games besides the usual Pole Positions, Defenders, etc., but fun to play. I was always a Genesis/PlayStation/SNES guy, so I’ve enjoyed trying out Xbox and Xbox360 games and loved picking them up for cheap. Looking forward to catching up on playing them. Not really a die-hard collector, although I try to get things CIB if I can; just like trying some new stuff.
Overall I really enjoy collecting SNES and Genesis, the 16 bit era of games has an endless amount of games that have such a high replay value not to mention the amazing music as well. Games like Magic Sword, Super Castlevania, Streets of Rage 2, Mario, Sonic etc you don’t hear game soundtracks like that anymore.
SNES, N64, PS2, Xbox, and GameCube are my favorite retro consoles. I used to collect NES, but I've been playing it less and less and have started selling off most of my library. I feel like an idiot for not collecting GameCube back when I was into NES.
PS2 and Xbox (original) can still be found very cheap at yard sales. The secret seems to be out on the NES, SNES, and N64. I've seen many yard sales asking crazy prices on those old Nintendo consoles and games (the other day saw a yard sale asking $200 for an NES console with a couple controllers and five common games). Collectors should get a head start and just replay 360 and PS3 games, as people basically give those away at the moment.
Yes, the best N64 games are from Nintendo and Rare, but there is a lot more to discover and enjoy (just some titles: Space Station Silicon Valley, Rocket Robot on Wheels, the Rush series, Turok...). I own more than 80 N64 games, and I think most of them are worthy titles. Of course, the library is comparatively small, but not as small as most people think
I currently collect for whatever I can get my hands on and most important, that I enjoy playing, reason my Xbox (og and original) collection is slowly growing, also would like to expand on my NES Super Famicom and Gamecube collection
@Imitation Station and being the most powerful system of the 6th gen, with component cables most games still look awesome! And most are super cheap compared to their Gamecube or PS counterpart
My favourite consoles to collect for, by collect I actually collect homebrew games for retro consoles. So for me that is Sega Mega Drive, Gameboy, NES and by extension Amiga. They have great homebrew scenes, I hear the Dreamcast does but it it doesn't quite do it for me with its library I don't have a great deal to spend on consoles and yes I use roms for original games, shoot me. If I had the time, inclination and money to collect libraries, it would be the PS1 my all time fav, as it is I use rom packs for original library games and fund new homebrew games.
While I grew up more on NES, N64 hits more nostalgia buttons for me and is my favorite retro console. It was the first console I really threw a lot of my own money at. I even just like the shape od the carts.
My favorite systems to collect for are: 1. Sega Saturn 2. Sega Genesis/CD/32X 3. Turbografx 16/CD 4. PlayStation (PS1) 5. NES 6. SNES 7. Sega Master System 8. PS2 9. 3DO 10. Virtual Boy
There are many that I would like to collect for but don't due to price. I currently collect for the Wii, WiiU, DS, 3DS, GBA, PSP, PS Vita, PS2, PS3, PS4, and SMS. My fav to collect for is the SMS.
I love this channel but I would like see see John do some videos on the PS4, PS3 and Original Xbox. I understand he's a retro gamer, but I interested to see what his favorite games on those consoles is.
I don’t have a top 10 but really a top 3 right now. I love Ps1, ps3, and wii. I’ve had the most fun with those. I’d probably throw Xbox and Psp/Vita for my top 5. Ps2 has some greats but most have been remastered. Still waiting on a getaway reboot. I’m happy to have sega collections and doom ports to new consoles cause I love those as well.
The Atari 2600, NES, SNES, and Genesis are my childhood systems that I want to collect for. Those systems are still loved by retro gamers today. There seems to be more clones of those systems than any other.
I’ve had an NES top loader ever since I can I remember I have about 40 or 50 games for it and I still play it after 20 years still works perfectly fine with the RF switch and I still buy games for it 😊 Ass well as ps2 was the first system to introduce me into modern gaming I love this console I have about 200 games for it and still buy games for it. N64 is the other console that I own many games about 50 or 60 of them still play it and buy games for it THANKS FOR THE VIDEO IT WAS WELL DONE
I collect Super Nintendo, Ps1 and Genesis! I got rid of my Nes, half of my Ps2 games (that I know I wouldn't play) and my Nintendo 64 to focus on those 3. I am both a gamer and a collector, and I do not mind paying a lot for a complete game, since I pretty much only buy games I know I want to play
Im a Collector for more than 20years and now i like to collect ps2,ps3 ,Gamecube, Dreamcast and my favorite is Original Xbox. I don like to waste time collecting for nes,snes,Genesis,ps1 and old consoles. Now this days we have all this games on a single card or emulators. Is cheap and don't uses a lot of space in my gameroom.😎
I have been trying to snap up Game boy and GameBoy advanced games. The idea of that that new retro console coming out that can play both has me excited.
Sega Genesis by far my favourite, but i have tremendous memories with N64, Wayne Gretzky Hockey, Wave Race, The Mace, Mario Tennis, Banjo, DK64... here in Brazil Sega Master Syster was the supermania. Kenseiden, Shinobi, Alex Kidd and Castle of Illusion marked a whole generation.
As silly as it may seem the 360 is up there for me maybe it's the fact that it was the first console I bought with my own money but I totally agree on the gamecube it's a great system i also love gameboy
I apologize in advance for my long post. console wise we are currently collecting GC, Genesis (i only have 4 games so far), NES ( 6 games so far), SNES (game so far), N64, PlayStation ( 6 games so far as well), PS2, PS3, Wii, Wii U (2 games) , Xbox, , Xbox 360. if you add in handhelds we are also collecting GB, GB Color, GB Advance, DS, 3DS, PSP. Then there's the modern systems of Xbox one, Switch, and PS4.. what i find hilarious is i picked up 3 Atari games at a yard sale last summer for $1 total.. and i still have no system to play them on, my fiancee teases me about that all the time . Not to make it sound like we have a lot of games, because we don't .. we only have a grand total of 560 games total for all of these systems & handhelds between the 2 of us.(which compared to a lot of people is rookie numbers lol) but we collect the games that we enjoy playing or have nostalgia from our childhoods. (but of course we are always on the look for more) I would love to get an Atari 2600 , Atari 5200 , NES (i am using a Retron 5 to play my NES and SNES currently), Famicom, Super Famicom ,Sega Master System, Sega 32X, 3DO , Sega Saturn , Playstation (using my PS2 to play PS1 games) , Nintendo 64DD , Nintendo 64DD , Dreamcast
I would pick basically all of Nintendo’s handheld including the Game & Watch games. Maybe Original Xbox and PS2 as well. Also I think the reason Xbox and PS2 games are so cheap is because many of them have been ported or are available on the next system somehow. Like remasters or they are just purchasable on those respective stores. For example Halo Combat Evolve can be bought for the Original Xbox, the remaster can be bought for the Xbox 360, and you get get the Master Chief Collection with it in it as well as other Halo games for the Xbox One, the Xbox Series, and PC. There are many ways to play it and that’s just one game. A lot of them are like that.
I collect for Master System, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, XBOX 360, PS3, PS4 and Switch, maybe ill collect for the N64. I might have a SEGA addiction.
I adore the PS2 and I’m having a great time collecting for it. It feels like the Everest of collecting though, since even the PAL set is over 2200 titles.
Really enjoying the hunt for boxed Colecovision and Vectrex titles at the mo - sure, there are plenty of loose carts knocking about, but finding boxed copies that don't cost an arm, a leg and a small intestine, that's the trick. :)
My favorite consoles to collect for are SNES, Genesis, Gamecube, PS2, and original Xbox, but I do have to give N64 and PS1 some honorable mentions. Lately though, especially with prices plummetting, I've been really enjoying hunting down the more obscure games for PS3 and Xbox 360. Even the Wii has some fun gems if you know what to look for.
SNES is my favorite console. it also has some fantastic games on it. quite a few of which are some of my favorite games including my all-tme favorite Super Castlevania IV. proud to say i have that complete and in excellent shape.
Great video! Super interessting! I collect almost all of those, but sadly, my two favourite to collect are some of the hardest to find, especially here in Québec: Saturn and Wonderswan...
This is great...even though I play all these ancient consoles on emulation{don't tell anyone lol}man it's crazy how far tech has improved...I carry all these games on my phone...and growing up during the era of ps1, ps2, psp, nes/snes, genesis, dreamcast, gamecube, gb, gbc, gba/etc myself...I never thought one day I'll have almost all of them...all in my pocket...readily available at any given time{illegally of course lol}
I recently collected a ton of N64 games, now I’m kind of in limbo and buying random items, I would like to get a focus, I have my PS2 hooked up so I may go with PS1 games I missed back in the day
The Nintendo 64 has many overlooked games that I am curious about....I would love to play those obscure overlooked N64 games on a portable N64 by Hyperkin....that would be all the motivation I would need to buy some of those games....Space Invaders 64. Asteroids for Nintendo 64, Ridge Racer 64, Cruisin world for Nintendo 64...BattleZone for Nintendo 64...High on my list right now for the next few months would be Ridge Racer for the original PlayStation....I think they should re-release some Nintendo 64 and Gamecube Classics on Nintendo Switch....I would personally like to see Naruto: Clash of Ninja 1 and 2 on Switch.....and Pokemon Colosseum and XD Gales of Darkness as some kind of collection....Maybe Mario Kart Double Dash also....in Widescreen and updated to 1080P as well as the others updated like this...oh! Kirby Air Ride also...all using the original graphics like the recent Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer game re-release....Also Sega AGES Sega Rally!
My favorite retro systems to collect for are Genesis,NES, N64, SNES,Game Cube. Lately i haven't been collecting due to the health crisis. Genesis is still very affordable to collect for i mostly own loose carts.
PS2 is the only one I really care to collect. Only problem with it is unlike other consoles in that gen it looks really fuzzy on a modern TV. Wish someone could make a new clone console that made PS2 games look great on a modern TV, sort of like the AVS does for NES. But the games are great, complete on disc and cheap. Plus PS2 is the only console I'm nostalgic for, even though I had an SNES and ps1 also as a kid.
I like to draw the "retro" line as pre-disc. N64 kind of blurs that line, but disc generation brought 3d games, more save features, etc. I grew up playing Coleco and NES, so i guess it's all a matter of perspective.
My favorite retro console is the GameCube and I still collect for it. I don't like the PS2 hardware but I still get games for it. You kinda have to with that library 🙄
My top 10 consoles to collect for are 10. Playstation 1 9. 32X 8. Wii U 7. Gamecube 6. Playstation 2 5. Sega Genesis 4. Turbografix 16/Duo 3. CIB GBA 2. Sega CD 1. Sega Saturn Sort of an odd set but it is what I like. The art, the case type, amd the style of games.
Hi John Hancock! So, I haven't liked to collect SNES games, yeah, there are a lot of great games but they are so much expensive and some of them are really rare. For example, Lufia 1 and 2, Metal Warriors, Breath of Fire 1 and 2, and so on.
i collect for the genesis and try to play all the best games, i,m playing fatal rewind and its stupid hard, but a great game only for hard core gamers!!!
The easiest IMO if you are starting out is OG Xbox for the reasons you mentioned along with PS2, PS3 could be the next console to collect for, lots of games and most are very cheap!!

N64 all day for life!!! Best console ever!!! Can’t wait for another video about it immortal!!!
There are many that I would like to collect for but don't due to price.
I currently collect for the Wii, WiiU, DS, 3DS, GBA, PSP, PS Vita, PS2, PS3, PS4, and SMS.
My fav to collect for is the SMS.
❤️ the DC but games are hard to come by these days
I love this channel but I would like see see John do some videos on the PS4, PS3 and Original Xbox. I understand he's a retro gamer, but I interested to see what his favorite games on those consoles is.
A PS4 game will be shown soon
I don’t have a top 10 but really a top 3 right now. I love Ps1, ps3, and wii. I’ve had the most fun with those. I’d probably throw Xbox and Psp/Vita for my top 5. Ps2 has some greats but most have been remastered. Still waiting on a getaway reboot. I’m happy to have sega collections and doom ports to new consoles cause I love those as well.
Let's see that top 20 for the N64. Have you done a video on those yet?
Not yet
Yeah this is important. I don’t think everyone understands the N64’s importance.
PS1, PS2 & Xbox 360 are my favorites as of now to collect for.
(but of course we are always on the look for more)
I would love to get an Atari 2600 , Atari 5200 , NES (i am using a Retron 5 to play my NES and SNES currently), Famicom, Super Famicom ,Sega Master System, Sega 32X, 3DO , Sega Saturn , Playstation (using my PS2 to play PS1 games) , Nintendo 64DD , Nintendo 64DD , Dreamcast
Which box protectors do you like for Atari 2600 boxes? New subscriber. Great channel!
I might have a SEGA addiction.
i own soul calibur Complete. for dreamcast as well Great Game
I adore the PS2 and I’m having a great time collecting for it. It feels like the Everest of collecting though, since even the PAL set is over 2200 titles.
My Favorite Retro console is the Original X-Box and Xbox 360 Xbox One too
Would be awesome if F-Zero GX (Gamecube by Sega) comes to Switch for online play as well.
A lot of my wish list right now is PS3 games. Particularly PS3 JRPGs.
Man snes was waning too but now quarantine fucked it up
i like to collect for the sega gen sega saturn snes nes ps1 ps2 atari 2600 n64 xbox 360
This is great...even though I play all these ancient consoles on emulation{don't tell anyone lol}man it's crazy how far tech has improved...I carry all these games on my phone...and growing up during the era of ps1, ps2, psp, nes/snes, genesis, dreamcast, gamecube, gb, gbc, gba/etc myself...I never thought one day I'll have almost all of them...all in my pocket...readily available at any given time{illegally of course lol}
Good stuff man
PS2 is the only one I really care to collect.
Oops, you missed ColecoVision.
My Favorite Game is SSX 3 And Star Wars Battlefront for Original X-Box
I like to draw the "retro" line as pre-disc. N64 kind of blurs that line, but disc generation brought 3d games, more save features, etc. I grew up playing Coleco and NES, so i guess it's all a matter of perspective.
Im on the Quest to get a full pal wii u collection, im on 110 so theres abit more to go.
My favorite retro console is the GameCube and I still collect for it. I don't like the PS2 hardware but I still get games for it. You kinda have to with that library 🙄
My top 10 consoles to collect for are
10. Playstation 1
9. 32X
8. Wii U
7. Gamecube
6. Playstation 2
5. Sega Genesis
4. Turbografix 16/Duo
3. CIB GBA
2. Sega CD
1. Sega Saturn
Sort of an odd set but it is what I like. The art, the case type, amd the style of games.
So the ps4 will be retro in 3.5 years by your definition?
I love my genesis and sega cd games
Oh yeah and recently picked up an Xbox One!
All good choices. I would include TurboGrfx16 into it.
Expensive and hard to find these days.
I own a copy of sonic 2 complete with Box manual . it was 16 bucks
