Please join me Monday evening, February 24th at 8:30 PM MST here on UA-cam for a live stream where we will answer any questions you have about the new Ripmo and just hand out! If you've never tuned into a MTB yumyum live stream, here's your chance! They're always a lot of fun. We go into much greater detail about my time on this new Ibis Ripmo and discuss any questions you have! See you Monday evening!
I got my Star Destroyer Grey Ripmo just before Xmas and I’ve only had a couple of rides, but I’m blown away by how well this thing rides. It climbs and descends so well and is such a comfortable bike to sit on and pedal.
i just bought the bug zapper blue model . It's a wonderful machine. What a beast! I was riding a Instinct Bc Edition 2018, and I was not disappointed with the change. I'm in love! This bike is perfect!
You are hands down the best mountain bike reviewer on UA-cam. I love how in each video you start with a short clip of you riding the bike before getting into the review. That hooks the watcher. Then I love how you conduct the review while riding the bike. You talk about climbing while climbing, descending while descending, etc. Your skill brings a lot of credibility to the table. And lastly, the wrap up at the end if each video is great. Solid format. Great job!
As always a great video. The one thing I love and can always count on your review videos, is the simple and to the point description of the bikes and how they ride. Super relatable!! Until the next cool video. Cheers
Most of my friends who weigh under 180 are getting the version 1 on closeout sale and slapping in a -1 headset. Mtbr has a thread in the ibis forum for v1 frames at $2100 delivered in the US.
@@MrDjindian You need to call the shop, they can't advert the price as it would upset other competitors online and LBS... Here is the website "N1bikes.net" call them and ask about the Ripmo v.1 deal... Hope they have some left for ya.
Jason, you should try riding Fezzari’s La Sal Peak! They are a smaller bike company, here in Utah, but they make some insane bikes. The La sal peak is very similar in numbers to the ripmo, though some people thinks it is way better. Would be interested to see what you think of it. Love the videos, thanks!
I have one of the few V2s disguised as a V1. Have had the bike for about 5 months and it's just an awesome bike. I've tested it with an EXT V3 Storia and it rocks, but honestly the traction tune Fox Float X2 is a perfect shock for this bike. Can't say enough good things about this bike.
Great review like all the other ones. Trying to decide on the Ripley or Ripmo for all around MTB. Live in Florida with lots of roots, sand , tight corners and short steep ascents but it looks like you can take the Ripmo anywhere in U.S. and just ride it. Keep on the great job!
Yeah, if your trails arn't that gnarly, maybe consider the Ripley with a 140mm fork if you're stuck between the Ripley and Ripmo... could be the perfect bike! Good luck!
Great ride. You two make it all look so easy. How would you compare the sb150 I know it’s a bigger bike but what else would you say. Just tested the 150 and really liked it. Hoping we have a v2 to test soon.
MTB yumyum Yeah, I'd buy it just that spec. Forego the complexity of X2 and Grip2. I'd have to know what heck I'm doing to appreciate. Thanks, Jason Cheers!
Great review. What's the name of the trail in the second half of the video with jumps and drops? I'll be in that area in 3 weeks. Good luck with true grit.
First section was Zen, second section was Barrel trail... park at the bottom of zen trail but instead of going south toward zen, start climbing north of zen... it's on trail forks
Nice! Did you end up using the link in the video to Competitive Cyclist or from Salt Cycles? Yeah, I ride mine with a Fox 36 but I've tried the 38 and didn't notice that much of a difference.
Great video bro! Still think the Revel Rascal is hard to beat or right up there. New Ripmo numbers and tune puts it up there though. Old Ripmo for a bigger guy was just to harsh like the SB130 was. Ripmo v2 and Rascal are top runners.
Yeah, my top three right now are probably: Ibis Ripmo V2, Evil Offering & Revel Rascal for do it all everyday not matter what trail bike! For those with less aggressive riding or more mild mannered trails, the Ripley with a 140mm fork could also do the trick!!!
Yep, Tyler was riding the Switchblade... I recently did a video review on that.... we also filmed a Switchblade vs Ripmo comparison video that will be uploaded to this channel in a week or so!
Great review Jason, so, this bike comes with Assegai front and back? That's interesting. Would you say the small bump (7:50) is sort of VPPish? Glad you pointed out that Ibis kept the price point unchanged, that is great. Your demo does look top of the line but it doesn't seem to have the X2. This is the bike I've been waiting for and when I got word a few weeks ago I was stoked. One point that I think that was missed: I may mention this if I get to your live stream - the chain stay protector. I was hoping Ibis would have engineered/copied Santa Cruz chainstay protector. Specialized sort of copied that on the new Enduro. I say that because many of the current Ripmos have the protector not staying on very well and not keeping the bike quiet. One more question for you, and its a big one, you getting a new bike, ha!
I have 3 complaints of the ripmo that will be coming out in the Ripmo vs Ripmo V2 video in a week or so... lack of chainstay protection was one of the complaints that will be in that video.... Yeah, I prefer the dpx2 over the x2.... lets talk in the live stream!
Like your videos, also the POV parts, but I would suggest to show the bike (details, third person ride takes) much more during the talk, don't get me wrong, but it is just too much Yumyum face. :) I know it is a bit more work, but I do believe it would add to Your videos! Keep up with the chanel, best regards from Hungary!
A year and a half ago everyone was extolling the virtues of the Hightower LT, so I bought one to get back in shape on after I got out of the hospital from a major automobile accident, only one lung left. Jason, I know you've had a Hightower and you and I are about the same size, would it be worth the expense to retire the SC HT LT and buy a 2020 Ripmo? - Is it another world or just a small increment better? Jason I appreciate your input. Where I am it's next to impossible to go ride other bikes, that's why I bought the HT LT based on a ton of video reviews, website reviews and forum feedback. Everyone called it the Quiver-killer and it's treated me right.
Yeah, that last HT LT was a good trail bike for it time and honestly, it has a more playful character than the current Hightower with the lower link shock placement... that said, the Ripmo is better everywhere.... no comparison. If it's time for a new bike, I think you love the Ripmo coming from the HT LT Good luck!
@@mtbyumyum I rode my friend's Ripmo and found it more flexy, twitchy and harsh yet with a lazier feel to the pedaling in that I didn't feel the energy transfer efficiency was up with the HT LT, probably due to the flex I felt. I'm over 200lbs. I recall thinking back to when I bought it and had to choose between the Ripmo & HT LT and being glad I chose the Santa Cruz. It hurts to see Santa Cruz has left their snappy handling XC-like bike ethos for what now seems to be mostly downhill designs. I was hoping Ibis had made major changes for the better, especially in terms of stiffness but it sounds like it's about the same except for the new slacker head tube angle so I'll probably stick to the SC HT LT non-flexy-flier lol
Great review! I’ve been waiting for your opinion since I caught wind of the new v2 a few weeks ago. I’m currently in the decision stage and hope to get your opinion of how v2 climbs compares to Hightower/tallboy. Rentals are expensive... I’m trying to use your info to narrow bikes down before I rent.
New Ripmo climbs better than the Hightower.... I would guess it's on par with the Tallboy but without riding them back to back it would be hard to say.... Tallboy cant hang with the ripmo on the down hill though.... so..... Ripmo! Hightower was just meh everywhere... to bad really.
ibis factory setting only I slowed the rear rebound by 2... I think i was at 7 clicks from full fast. 190 psi in the dpx2 and I'm 140 lbs Fork was factory setting with rebound sped up 2 clicks faster.... 59 psi in the fork
No, it's a different experience for sure... I sort of think it comes down to down hill speed.... it you're constantly smashing trails at mach chicken speeds, get the Ripmo. If you prefer smashing the up hill sections and your trails aren't too rowdy, go with the Ripley...
Hey Jason, coming at you from good ol' Denver. Probably similar trails to your home trails and great job as usual on your video. So I'm the classic Ripmo vs Ripley conundrum and will tune in to your live feeds (thank for your time btw) but some questions... 1. Ripley w/140 Pike Ultimate and 2 wheel sets vs Ripmo also w/ 2 wheel sets 2. What's the complete build on those light weight carbon wheels you have (rim brand/dimensions and spoke number) cause I think you laced them to 240's 3. How do you like the carbon KS LEV? Durable, etc? 4. Thoughts on DPX2 vs DPS factory on the Ripley (I'm 185lbs) Thanks for any input!
@@mtbyumyum no doubt , but it will be several months before i even lay eyes on the V2 . Pretty rare on this side of the world. There's only 1 Hd5 (frame only) that i know of ,.. ive seen 1 V4 ripley (brought in from the States with Hans Rey and company ((i think)) the day they were doing a video shoot) And actually seeing a V2Ripmo might as well be a unicorn sighting LoL!! Having said all that , if i ever make back home i'm going straight to whatever trail THAT is in this vid. Talk about home sweet home , that looks like a post card bro, and that alone was worth the watch. Keep choppin' wood man , and we'll keep watchin'. > Peace
Great review! Digging your format, content, and delivery - commentary is very on point! This is contentious but you're a match for height with me and that's an increasingly rare thing. How do you find the Ripmo 29 for center of gravity teeteriness? Is it distracting or limiting when at full seat height? I'm on a V1 Bronson and hope you could compare Ripmo against 2019 V3 Bronson? My backyard is chunky eroded off-camber Canadian Shield so small bump sensitivity and stability over techy creepy twisties with a lot of off-camber and square ledges are important to me. Concerned 29er CG teeteriness, flex, and slower spin up on start / stop could negate roll-over benefits vs. 27.5. I would tend to stick to aluminum wheels simply because carbon are sooo expensive. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Hey Jason, love the channel, how would you compare the ripmo (v1 or V2) to the Rocky Mountain instinct c70 with regards to climbing and fast descending? I built up my instinct with all carbon upgrades to make it light as possible but not fragile. It sits at 26.4 lb. Can the ripmo be built this light? Thanks so much for what you do.
No, I don't think the ripmo could be built up under 27 lb. It would be very difficult... I previously owned a Rocky Mountain Instinct that had until top extremely life like yours. It was incredible trail bike. The ripmo is more composed and stable coming down hill and still maintains that Lively playful characteristic that you get from the Instinct. They climb about the same...
Great review as always Jason! What are your thoughts on a comparison between the Ripmo V2 and the SC Hightower V2? I'm thinking of a short to mid-travel 29er and am all over the place b/t the Ripmo, Hightower, Ripley, and Tallboy v4. Probably just need to listen to your advice and ride them all!
Yeah, ride them all if you can. The Tallboy was a lot more fun than the Hightower... the HT for some reason was only good at high speeds in rough terrain... The Ripley was the best climber of the bunch and the Ripmo climbs about the same as the Tallboy or maybe even better..... Good luck!
Hey Jason. I keep hearing that the Ripmo V1 isn't plush. I'm considering a used demo that a local shop has and am curious if I should be looking elsewhere if I want a little more compliance. I don't mind feeling the trail, but I don't wanna feel beat up over a long ride with lots of small bumps/roots etc. Don't think I'll be around for the live stream so thought I'd ask here. Thanks for any help 👍
Manny, you are one of my long time sub's as I remember. Thank you!!! I've never thought it to be any more harsh than any other bike... I rode the new Swithblade and Ripmo back-to-back 2 days a go... of the 3 bikes, the Switchblade was the more harsh of the 3. As for a demo bike.... I would never recommend anyone to buy a demo bike.... they are often times ridden more in 1/2 a season than you would ride it in 3 seasons.... I'd buy new or used from a person you think was a total shredder.... a dad sort of guy who only got out once per week or something... demo bikes get hammered... and I wouldn't believe what the person selling it to you says... call Chris at salt cycles and get a better deal on a new bike or click the link in this video to Competitive Cyclist and get a good deal
@@mtbyumyum Thanks Jason.. Very helpful info. I'm surprised the new Switchblade was the most harsh since I've been hearing otherwise. I'll definitely need to be patient and ride it along with a few others. I really appreciate the reply 👍
Good review! Quick question, what size would you recommend for 5-9, 180lb rider. It's in an overlap between medium and large size on the Ibis website. Seems like they lengthened the bike out a bit in reach no?
So V2 vs your HD5? Which do you like better? And why? I ask because of your comment on the livestream. I’ve got a V1 and love it and not interested in going slacker. Cheers!
Yeah, the original ripmo just about as perfect as you can get for a trail bike. It just does everything so well. I don't know what to do about my bike situation right now. I really want to get the new ripmo....
Great review and great trail. This is my riding in The AZ and all over the four corners. Question: Thinking about running a DVO Jade X coil shock instead of the Fox stuff. (I am doing a frame build and going with blue and green. NO ORANGE) Thoughts about coil shock on the bike? May dampen a little of the pop?
For various reasons I've missed your recent streams Jason! I'll post my question here instead. I'm seeing discounts of 30-40%+ LBS's fire selling the the Ripmo V1. That seems like an amazing deal. If you were the average Joe, would you buy a new V1 or is the V2 worth paying full price for?
RyuMoto, if you don't need the latest and greatest, the original Ripmo is a killer bike and really not that different than the new Ripmo... that said, the new bike felt like it had a bit more traction and better (smoother) small bump... due in part to the traction tune shocks. The rest is about the same!
RyuMoto - Check out N+1bikes.net, you'll find a killer deal on Ripmo frames and the Lyric fork to go with it. If you want it to be like this v.2 Ripmo, ask about WORKS components angleset and you'll be right there, ask for the 1 degree. If you are on a budget, you can't be the discount prices right now!
Did the switchblade Tyler was riding have live valve? I think that’s not going to be the same as the GRIP2/special pivot DPX2 when open. That’s one of the issues with live valve. You’re not getting the best fox dampers
Hi Jason. Good review as always! 👍 I have already written to you a few times in the past. I am from Quebec, Canada, and I have a Rocky Instinct BC Edition 2018. I will change bikes in 1 month, and I chose the Ripmo V2. I hesitate between medium and large. I measure 5p10, I am always between the medium and the large. On my old bike, I had the medium and I find that it lacks reach. the top tube length is fine, but when I'm standing on the bike on a rocky descent, I run out of space in the cockpit ... On the Ripmo, there is 460mm of reach instead of 431mm on the Rocky. ..Do you see a real difference between the two bikes at this level? Because if the difference in reach is minimal, I'll go for a large one. I just don't want a bike that I'm going to feel too long in turns, technical uphill etc ...That's why I'm hesitating between the two .
How would you compare this to the Ripley? Debating between this and the Ripley for occasional bike park use, climbing and trail rides like your on in this video.
I just demo’d the Ripmo V1 in Sedona and loved it. I’m in the market for a new LT 29’er and would love your opinion if on this same trail would you prefer the Ripmo or SB150? My top 3 picks are new Ripmo V2, La Sal Peak, or used SB150. Thanks Andy!
Ga biou, it's just like JF said... the Yeti sb150 feels like a much bigger longer bike. It would be a lot more work for most people on most trails including the trail you see in this video. The ripmo should be an easy discussion really and will hold it value a lot better than the Lasal peak.... if that matters to you
Thanks for great review! Since I may not be able to join the live chat, I wanted to ask my question here. I am almost ready to pull the trigger on the Ripmo 2. Do you think it will make sense to keep the Mojo 3 for some more tame trails or does the Ripmo simply do everything better (including climbing boring fire roads)?
The mojo 3 has a more playful and zippy feeling to it than the Ripmo for sure... they're just way different categories... the Ripmo in the long travel 29er category is the most playful but not to the same level as those short travel 27.5 bikes.
@@mtbyumyum Thanks, I've had the sb150 but haven't ridden the Ripmo. I'm excited to see what the Ripmo can do. I was going to go back to a 27.5 and try the Hd5 after the Yeti but I've heard that bike feels a little long and after watching your review talking about getting a little more hung up then the Ripmo, I figured I would stick with the 29er. Thanks for putting out your bike reviews!
Ibis Ripley with a 140mm fork is the answer for you my friend. I absolutely love my Ripley and if it were my only bike I'd have a 140mm Pike up front! Honestly, I dont think it can be beat.... it's that good!
@@mtbyumyum really, I'll have to check it out then! don't hear many people talking about the Ripley though. . I'm looking to get a new bike and I'm looking at the 5010 (which people also seem to never talk about), Hightower, sb130, and the stumpjumper
The Ripley would be just fine in this environment... in fact, I've ridden my Ripley on these trails before and it's a blast! The Ripmo is more stable and composed but it's really not that high speed of a trail... mostly techy
I don't care for 29ers I feel I'm short for 29ers. Is there a version of this ripmo that is a 27.5 or is this playfully enough and and super great on courners that this could be an inbetween an 29er and a 27.5? And if so is there a flip chip that highers the bottom bracket if I wanted to run it MULLET. Please help me out if you can I really like this bike regulars of 29ers but Is something to consider.
Hi brother! I was hoping you could help me. I’m getting this awesome Ibis Ripmo but I’m torn on what size to get. I’m 5’5” per Ibis site it says I’m fit on both small or medium. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a demo test both due to pandemic. Any thoughts on what would fit me better? Thanks a lot!
depends on your terrain and how high of speed you like to ride at... for me, I could probably make the Ripley with a 140mm fork work as my only bike... or the Ripmo with 2 dedicated sets of wheels and tires...
I've run a number of different setups. I sort of settled in on a 2.4 Rekon up front and a 2.35 Ardent race out back. It's a pretty fast rolling setup that still has decent traction. But remember, I always have a longer travel bike on hand with burly tires.
What scale are you using? I have a V4 Ripley size large that weighs over 29 lbs. It is the XT build with ibis aluminum wheels. My tires are 775 grams each.
I've had this question a lot.... The Ripmo is better basically everywhere... the Hightower feels incredible descending and has a very bottomless feel that you dont get with the Ripmo. Other than that, the Ripmo is the better climbing and much more fun factor bike!
there are some small changes but they're mostly very similar... the new bike is a little smoother and a little more traction... mostly from the new shock tune Ibis is using!
MTB yumyum it would be good if you could in a future video.... have a good unbiased conversation for the age old question carbon vs alloy ... the pitfalls and the promise that both bring.
Jason...you own a Ripley. I know the Ripmo is more capable downhill, but can you give an honest assessment of the climbing efficiency compared to the Ripley?
Warranty is great with me. I broke a rim a couple weeks ago. Got a hold of them on a Tuesday, had my new rim on Friday. Didn't pay anything for the new rim.
I have no experience with Ibis or Santa Cruz warranty.... I've never had a problem with either of their product... the Ibis customer experience/service is top notch though. 100%
The first time I rode the original Ripmo I thought I wanted the X2 but after riding the original with and without, I ended up purchasing my original Ripmo last year with the dpx2... I just prefer it to the x2 almost all the time for my riding.
This is the exact question I'm going through right now unfortunately.... I currently own and love the HD5 as my long travel gnarly trail bike. But after riding the new Ripmo I might be convinced to sell the HD5. I will know for sure after I can ride them back to back on the same sort of trail.
Great video Jason. Those trails look amazing. Still loving my Ripmo V1. I do acknowledge that it is a little harsher than I had hoped for. Wondering if getting an angle set to slacken it out a little and having the DPX2 tuned lighter, might bring it in-line with the v2 version. Thoughts? All input welcomed.
Yeah, I think a lot of what I was feeling was the new "traction tune" shocks.... I really noticed it first on the HD5... it has been a revelation for me. Just makes the shocks so much more open and active feeling. Incredibly smooth!
@@mtbyumyum thanks so much for your response. So can the 2019 DPX2 be traction tuned and if so any recommendations on where to send it. Also what do you think about the angle-set ideas for the original Ripmo Thanks again.
Really comes down to the speed at which you ride and the terrain. If you ride at a really high level of speed through chunky terrain the ripmo will favor you if you prefer a sporty-er more Nimble feel that climbs a little better. But still is a good all-around trail bike the Ripley is the ride for you.
Really? I'm constantly plugging their shop. Yeah, they've been hooking my subscribers/viewers up with awesome deals on custom carbon wheels... the carbon hoops they built up for my Ripley are 1,340 grams with DT swiss 240 hubs and bullet proof!
@@mtbyumyum I know you have demoed bikes from their shop and GoRide, but didn't know there was an official thing with them. I don't watch every video. Just when I have time. Sorry about that.

Was your friend on a 2020 Switchblade? If so comparison?
Yep, Tyler was riding the Switchblade... I recently did a video review on that.... we also filmed a Switchblade vs Ripmo comparison video that will be uploaded to this channel in a week or so!
Great review! Awesome scenery!!
oh yeah, so nice down in St Geezy!!!
Great Review Jason great trails 🚴😉🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thank you... this trail and bike were a perfect combo!
Love the new v2!!
Yes, please keep telling me that it's not that much different it makes me feel better. Still, I think my 2019 is going up for sale. Darn it
@JF that is true.
haha... they're different but very very small differences
One point that I think that was missed:
I may mention this if I get to your live stream - the chain stay protector.
Nice ride and review! The bike looks sick.
Yeah dude, its a good one!
Haven’t seen a test of a Niner RIP9 RDO? I’m currently demoing one and pretty amazing.
Yeah, I've heard good things... my buddy Parker rides one!
bike looks killer, nice review
Like your videos, also the POV parts, but I would suggest to show the bike (details, third person ride takes) much more during the talk, don't get me wrong, but it is just too much Yumyum face. :) I know it is a bit more work, but I do believe it would add to Your videos!
Keep up with the chanel, best regards from Hungary!
Thanks for the feedback
I was hoping Ibis had made major changes for the better, especially in terms of stiffness but it sounds like it's about the same except for the new slacker head tube angle so I'll probably stick to the SC HT LT non-flexy-flier
lol
What trails were you on? They looked like so much fun!
Zen & Barrel trails, st George Ut
MTB yumyum thank you!
Great video Jason.
Can you provide the shock settings that you used?
ibis factory setting only I slowed the rear rebound by 2... I think i was at 7 clicks from full fast. 190 psi in the dpx2 and I'm 140 lbs Fork was factory setting with rebound sped up 2 clicks faster.... 59 psi in the fork
@@mtbyumyum Thanks Jason!
Of course 👍
I own a Ripley and was wondering if the ripmo would be comparable. Ride east coast mud and roots with lots of technical climbs.
No, it's a different experience for sure... I sort of think it comes down to down hill speed.... it you're constantly smashing trails at mach chicken speeds, get the Ripmo. If you prefer smashing the up hill sections and your trails aren't too rowdy, go with the Ripley...
Hey Jason, are you running flats or clips. Noticed the links in the description don’t jive. 😁
I switch between flat and SPD pedals. Most the time I'm wearing SPD clipless pedals Like I was on this day of riding.
Hey Jason, coming at you from good ol' Denver. Probably similar trails to your home trails and great job as usual on your video. So I'm the classic Ripmo vs Ripley conundrum and will tune in to your live feeds (thank for your time btw) but some questions...
1. Ripley w/140 Pike Ultimate and 2 wheel sets vs Ripmo also w/ 2 wheel sets
2. What's the complete build on those light weight carbon wheels you have (rim brand/dimensions and spoke number) cause I think you laced them to 240's
3. How do you like the carbon KS LEV? Durable, etc?
4. Thoughts on DPX2 vs DPS factory on the Ripley (I'm 185lbs)
Thanks for any input!
sorry, just seeing this now.... just answered your question on the Ripley video... feel free to reach out via email as well
ibis me ...
well , you know the rest
hahah !!
and what a great looking trail , such beautiful scenery
Yeah dude! You've got to give this new whip a rip! So good!
> Peace
Thanks dude!
Bike is great, but those trails look amazing!!
Yeah dude. You ever ride there?
@@mtbyumyum Unfortunately not. But really want to
Hey Jason, love the channel, how would you compare the ripmo (v1 or V2) to the Rocky Mountain instinct c70 with regards to climbing and fast descending? I built up my instinct with all carbon upgrades to make it light as possible but not fragile. It sits at 26.4 lb. Can the ripmo be built this light? Thanks so much for what you do.
No, I don't think the ripmo could be built up under 27 lb. It would be very difficult... I previously owned a Rocky Mountain Instinct that had until top extremely life like yours. It was incredible trail bike. The ripmo is more composed and stable coming down hill and still maintains that Lively playful characteristic that you get from the Instinct. They climb about the same...
MTB yumyum thank u
Good luck!
@@mtbyumyum Thanks for the reply Jason! If you're ever out in Hood River, hit me up and I will show you around.
Yeah, hard to say I'm 5 foot 8 and definitely wouldn't want the large.
Great review! Seems like a great bike. How'd you compare it to the SB130 LR for a one and only bike?
Curious about how you think this compares to a Transition Sentinel?
For various reasons I've missed your recent streams Jason! I'll post my question here instead.
I'm seeing discounts of 30-40%+ LBS's fire selling the the Ripmo V1. That seems like an amazing deal. If you were the average Joe, would you buy a new V1 or is the V2 worth paying full price for?
@JF its not like its that much different.. Especially to the everyday rider id say
RyuMoto, if you don't need the latest and greatest, the original Ripmo is a killer bike and really not that different than the new Ripmo... that said, the new bike felt like it had a bit more traction and better (smoother) small bump... due in part to the traction tune shocks. The rest is about the same!
It also just depends on each persons budget or finances.... good luck!
RyuMoto - Check out N+1bikes.net, you'll find a killer deal on Ripmo frames and the Lyric fork to go with it. If you want it to be like this v.2 Ripmo, ask about WORKS components angleset and you'll be right there, ask for the 1 degree. If you are on a budget, you can't be the discount prices right now!
...
Did the switchblade Tyler was riding have live valve? I think that’s not going to be the same as the GRIP2/special pivot DPX2 when open. That’s one of the issues with live valve. You’re not getting the best fox dampers
Yes, the switchblade had fox live valve.
Thanks for making these informative videos! How would this compare to the 5010?
What trail are you riding!,,,
Jason which do you like better, the Ripmo V2 or the Yeti sb150? They are both really good but which one do you prefer
I would take the Ripmo if I were to only have one bike... the sb150 feels like the bigger less maneuverable bike... but still a lot of fun.
@@bullseye0112 DID YOU GET THE RIPMO?I'm thinking about selling my 150 for one or a 130

How would you feel riding this trail on the ripley v4? Would you still send it all or feel the ripley would be outgunned?
The Ripley would be just fine in this environment... in fact, I've ridden my Ripley on these trails before and it's a blast! The Ripmo is more stable and composed but it's really not that high speed of a trail... mostly techy
Thanks for the video... How does it climb compared to the Yeti SB150 or Santa Cruz Hightower... Thanks
George Solomon it climbs better than the SB150. Not sure about the Hightower although I don’t like the new SC that much.
Climbs much better than the mega or 150... different category even thought the sus numbers look close....
1 bike quiver Ripmo or Ripley?
depends on your terrain and how high of speed you like to ride at... for me, I could probably make the Ripley with a 140mm fork work as my only bike... or the Ripmo with 2 dedicated sets of wheels and tires...
@@mtbyumyum What wheel width and tires do you run on your Ripley?
I've run a number of different setups. I sort of settled in on a 2.4 Rekon up front and a 2.35 Ardent race out back. It's a pretty fast rolling setup that still has decent traction. But remember, I always have a longer travel bike on hand with burly tires.
What scale are you using? I have a V4 Ripley size large that weighs over 29 lbs. It is the XT build with ibis aluminum wheels. My tires are 775 grams each.
haha the same scale I always use :) and it's spot on! I've had my personal V4 Ripley as low as 24 lbs!
I thought my bike would weigh around 27 lbs. Maybe the longer bike yoke dropper and larger frame add more than I thought.
@@tnlonnie03 I have a KS Lev Carbon dropper on my Ripley, super light weight carbon wheels and light weight tires....
How does this bike compare to the Hightower?
I've had this question a lot.... The Ripmo is better basically everywhere... the Hightower feels incredible descending and has a very bottomless feel that you dont get with the Ripmo. Other than that, the Ripmo is the better climbing and much more fun factor bike!
Offering vs Ripmo V2. That’s what I think might be the best battle for the all day mid-ish travel 29er. It would be a great video!
now that's a really good question.... honestly, those are my top 2 choices with the Revel Rascal right there as well...

Interesting. I'm feeling just the opposite. It's not much of a change to get me to want to sell my V1.
@@RyuMoto ya.. U could make a v1 close to the v2 anyways.. Its not that different
there are some small changes but they're mostly very similar... the new bike is a little smoother and a little more traction... mostly from the new shock tune Ibis is using!

Nope... old Ripmo, new Ripmo & Switchblade
MTB yumyum it would be good if you could in a future video.... have a good unbiased conversation for the age old question carbon vs alloy ... the pitfalls and the promise that both bring.

Jason...you own a Ripley. I know the Ripmo is more capable downhill, but can you give an honest assessment of the climbing efficiency compared to the Ripley?
yeah, let's talk about this in the live stream monday evening!
Heard their warranty and support is sorta meh compared to santa cruz?
Warranty is great with me. I broke a rim a couple weeks ago. Got a hold of them on a Tuesday, had my new rim on Friday. Didn't pay anything for the new rim.
I have no experience with Ibis or Santa Cruz warranty.... I've never had a problem with either of their product... the Ibis customer experience/service is top notch though. 100%
Would you have rather had an x2 rear shock?
The first time I rode the original Ripmo I thought I wanted the X2 but after riding the original with and without, I ended up purchasing my original Ripmo last year with the dpx2... I just prefer it to the x2 almost all the time for my riding.
Hd 5 or Ripmo ?
This is the exact question I'm going through right now unfortunately.... I currently own and love the HD5 as my long travel gnarly trail bike. But after riding the new Ripmo I might be convinced to sell the HD5. I will know for sure after I can ride them back to back on the same sort of trail.
Would you say this is a more efficient climber than the SB150?
yeah, I think so

Great video Jason. Those trails look amazing.
Still loving my Ripmo V1. I do acknowledge that it is a little harsher than I had hoped for.
Wondering if getting an angle set to slacken it out a little and having the DPX2 tuned lighter, might bring it in-line with the v2 version.
Thoughts? All input welcomed.
Yeah, I think a lot of what I was feeling was the new "traction tune" shocks.... I really noticed it first on the HD5... it has been a revelation for me. Just makes the shocks so much more open and active feeling. Incredibly smooth!

Ripley or Ripmo?
Really comes down to the speed at which you ride and the terrain. If you ride at a really high level of speed through chunky terrain the ripmo will favor you if you prefer a sporty-er more Nimble feel that climbs a little better.
